Are you a planner or are you a pantser? A planner is someone who plans out every detail or at least many details before they start working on a project. A pantser is someone who says "I gotta do this project" and then dives in and figures it out as they go. Frankly, I am not sure which one is better?

Regardless of how you do it there are 11 to 12 things that you will always need to decide on when it comes to a blog post. Sure there are more decisions and efforts that go into blogging than these but these are the core ideas that you must figure out for every blog post.

This idea has been life-altering for me. Now I'm using text-to-speech to create this specific blog post in Google Docs. Fortunately, I'm a fast typer on a standard keyboard. I know that I express myself better through voice. So I started to experiment with whether or not I could blog faster if I did text to speech on Google Docs. The answer is an absolute, yes.

Rank #7: She Said That She Didn't Have Enough Time

The other day I was on a call with a fellow entrepreneur. The reason that she wanted to talk is because she feels overwhelmed. She wants to grow her business but she has absolutely no time to do it, or so she says.

I asked her talk me through her week. Once she was done, I agreed with her.

You can give the speech of "If it is important to you, you will make time!"

However, that speech is BS.

Sometimes there truly isn't time.

The more that I agreed with her though, something funny happened.

Rank #9: ITB 058 How to Build a Website Yourself

Podcast cover
Read more
In this podcast I am going to provide a few tips about you building your own website or blog instead of hiring someone to do it for you.

To begin with these first two decisions are the two most important critical decisions to make before you even start thinking about design, logos and hosting.
#1 Who will build the website? Will it be you or will you hire someone?
#2 Who will write the content?

How can you build your own website and save money?
So you want to do it yourself and save money but are not sure where to start? Here is where I would recommend:
#1 Decide on a platform.
A.WordPress

B.Joomla

C.Weebly

#2 Choose a design.
There are thousands of designs to choose from. There are an overwhelming amount of free WordPress themes and you may find one that you think is perfect for your business.
I build all of our designs on premium themes and choose between Thesis Theme and Genesis Theme.

Rank #13: ITB 171 Why You Really Should Give Up Blogging

Podcast cover

We both know that you suck at writing. You will never write anything that is worthy of reading. There is absolutely no way that you will get any readers. Every single day that you log into your WordPress dashboard and look at your analytics you will see a flat line, a big fat 0.

Admit it right now!

That is what you say to yourself right? That is how you feel?

Hell, it is how I feel. Surely you feel it too.

Just today I was reading Create Or hate: Successful People Make Things http://amzn.to/2hHCJVn and on page 30 he writes about the negative self talk that we all say to ourselves.

That is some messed up stuff.

If you had a friend that was considering starting a blog, you would never say what you just read above to that friend.

What would you say to that friend that wants to start a blog?

Sometimes WordPress breaks. Yes, it is shocking but it happens. It isn't anyones fault. It doesn't mean WordPress sucks. Nope, it is just part of all of these moving pieces.

Let's remember that so much is involved in a site these days. We have the domain, the hosting, WordPress, WordPress themes, plugins and the internet. All of these things have to sync up perfectly and sometimes things go wrong.

Rank #19: 063 Hey Blogger What Do You Know

Podcast cover
Read more
A popular question that all of us bloggers tend to explore at some point is “How can I make money with this?” At a recent conference people were asking this question. The go to answer that I see a lot of people lean towards is making money with Google AdSense or something other ad service. There is nothing wrong with this answer. As a matter of fact, it is a perfectly fine answer. There are other options that may actually be a better answer for most bloggers.

Now before I get into the other options, I want to share with you a formula. Just the other day, I released a tutorial how-to blog post about how to create a Google AdSense ad and how to place it in your WordPress sidebar. In that post, I also shared an article that someone wrote about how to make money with AdSense.

The breakdown of the formula is this: You can theoretically make $380 bucks a day with AdSense but to do that you will need around 40,000 page views per day.

If you are listening and are making that or more on just a few hundred a day, then please contact me and let me know how because that is awesome.

The point of this formula is that you need a lot of visitors on your site to get enough folks clicking on those ads. It can take a long time and a great deal of effort to get that many readers and this is why I wanted to talk about another way.

A while back, I read an article about how to make a living with a blog that has 100 readers a day. For the life of me, I can’t remember where I read that, so I can’t credit the author. I don’t recall all of the article but basically he said to consider other methods besides ads.

So with that said, I thought that I would tell you a story.

Story about Fred.

Started DGC speaking
Stopped doing that and did other things.
Kept the blog going about custody though.
Now, he has a steady but low readership.
People reach out to him weekly, if not daily at times and ask him questions.
He can only help so many people one on one.
He realized, hey I know a lot about this topic.
Now he is making a course.

So let’s go back to methods on making money with a blog:

Coaching
Books
Courses
Teaching / Speaking
Other Products
Affiliates

These are a few solid methods, so let me ask you.
What do you know?

What do people constantly ask your advice on?

What services can you offer that are related to your blog?

Can you envision other methods of making money with your topic beyond ads?
