It is by gaining deeper self- knowledge, raising our self-awareness, elevating our consciousness, getting closer to our authentic self that we support our children on that very same process of self discovery. Rank #13: Parenting Peacefully When Triggered (Monthly Special Episode)

Podcast cover
Read more

This is our monthly special episode where I co-host the show with another colleague.  We have 3 segments Examples from Our Homes What’s Up with You? Answering listener parenting questions Favorite Finds In the first segment, I tell a story about a delayed Christmas gift I had ordered for my daughter. How she reacted triggered past hurts in me and I was stuck. It is hard to parent peacefully and respond respectfully when our wounds get triggered. Parenting is an emotional job. This experience has not only enabled me to face my own unresolved issues but also it served as a catalyst for me to open up and share a painful story from my past. We often feel like as parents we need to hide our stories, our past. When we share parts of us with our children we invite them into our lives and it gives them a different perspective. After I shared my story, my daughter was touched and the connection between us just got deeper.  Have you ever shared parts of you with your child? How did it go? How did you child respond? What did you feel?  Laura shares a story related to their recent trip to Disney. Key takeaways from her story are: let's allow children to go through their own experiences  connect to your child's inner experience and do not invalidate their fears  appreciate who your child is and don't try to change her For FULL show notes where you can see the picture of the rain boots, read about Laura, get the links and resources we have mentioned and more, CLICK HERE.  Thanks for listening!

Rank #14: [Archive] From Punishments To Gentle Parenting: Raising 6 Kids In South Africa

Podcast cover
Read more

Spanking or corporal punishments break the bond between parent and child. They erode the trust. It is NNOT by inflciting pain we need to teach our children. There is a different way. You'd be surprised to learn that using physical punishments to "discipline" children is still legal in the world. In the United States 19 states still use corporal punishments in their schools and homes.  In today’s episode I am talking to my lovely friend, gentle parenting advocate Lelia Wes Schott. She is from South African and mom of 6 children. Lelia raised all her children with attachment parenting-a common practice in South Africa. But attachment parenting doesn’t mean gentle discipline. Lelia also shares her story of transformation moving from corporal punishments to gentle parenting. She also talks about the feelings that rise from transitioning from having one child to baby number two -The ups and downs, the joy and challenges of raising a big family -How she finds time for herself and for each of her children -Finding support -The reasons behind her decision to homeschool two of her kids -What’s happening in schools -and more Curious how they spend a typical day in their household? About My Guest Lelia is a South African, grateful mother of six children; four sons and two daughters; aged 19, 17, 15, 12, 5 and 2. She is also an independent child development researcher, founder, creator and writer at the international advocacy and consulting group Synergy Gentle Parenting Resources, administrator at Gentle Parents Unite and contributor at Thought Leaders In Parenting. Lelia calls herself a messenger or friend, not an expert. Some say she is a conscious parenting coach. A quote from the show “Love multiplies, it doesn’t divide.” Connect with Lelia You can follow her on facebook.com/Synergy.gentle.parenting instagram.com/synergy.gentle.parenting Do you need parenting support?
