We discuss Rob’s approach, called “Drawing in Space” which he developed as the Director of Sculpture at the Florence Academy of Art and has continued to refine in Athens. Rob discusses his journey from abstract to figurative sculptor and how this informed his process and perspective on working from life from the figure. She is the Artistic Director of the Lyme Academy and teaches online workshops independently. I realized this when I had to pick something to listen to while my dentist transformed a molar I was born with (and rather attached to) into a molar sculpture (otherwise known as a crown.) I listen to many other podcasts and audiobooks, but it was these two whacky guys, interviewing the immensely fascinating Tony Ryder, that had me so captivated that the process going on in my mouth was no big deal. Juliette Aristides

 Juliette Aristides is a monumental figure in the classical art community. Her three books on painting have been hugely influential to a generation of artists, with a new, fourth book in the works. Together they create a context for the pictures of some of the most revered contemporary classical realist painters by placing their works next to a lineage of old master and 19th Century paintings. Juliette continues to inspire scores with her own painting and drawing, teaching, and lectures. She is also an old friend and we were happy to finally catch her on a trip to NYC to record a conversation at the Salmagundi Club. Juliette Aristides is a monumental figure in the classical art community. Her three books on painting have been hugely influential to a generation of artists, with a new, fourth book in the works. Together they create a context for the pictures of some of the most revered contemporary classical realist painters by placing their works next to a lineage of old master and 19th Century paintings. Juliette continues to inspire scores with her own painting and drawing, teaching, and lectures. She is also an old friend and we were happy to finally catch her on a trip to NYC to record a conversation at the Salmagundi Club. Peter directed New York’s Dahesh Museum of Art, which specialized in 19th-century European academic painting and sculpture; before that, he held senior posts at the Brooklyn Museum and Baltimore Museum of Art. In 2002, Phaidon Press published Trippi’s monograph J W Waterhouse, which reassesses the Victorian painter best known for his Lady of Shalott at Tate Britain. Trippi went on to co-curate the Waterhouse retrospective that appeared 2008-2010 in the Netherlands, England, and Canada.  In 2016, Trippi co-curated the exhibition Lawrence Alma-Tadema: At Home in Antiquity, which is visiting three European museums through 2017: the Fries Museum (Leeuwarden, Netherlands), Belvedere (Vienna, Austria), and Leighton House Museum (London).  Trippi co-edited and contributed to the 250-page book that accompanies the project. Peter will host the up coming Figurative Art Convention and Expo, November 8-11 in Miami, Florida which will pull together some of the best figurative artists in the world.
