#107: The Scariest Navy SEAL I've Ever Met...And What He Taught Me. Jocko Willink (@jockowillink) is one of the scariest human beings imaginable. He is a lean 230 pounds. He is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu expert who used to tap out 20 Navy SEALs per workout. He is a legend in the Special Operations world. His eyes look through you more than at you. He rarely does interviews, if ever. But a few weeks ago, Jocko ended up staying at my house and we had a caffeinated mind meld. Here's some background... Jocko enlisted in the Navy after high school and spent 20 years in the SEAL Teams, first as an enlisted SEAL operator and then as a SEAL officer. During his second tour in Iraq, he led SEAL Task Unit Bruiser in the Battle of Ramadi--some of the toughest and sustained combat in the SEAL Teams since Vietnam. Under his leadership, Task Unit Bruiser became the most highly decorated Special Operations Unit of the entire war in Iraq and helped bring stability to Ramadi. Jocko was awarded the Bronze Star and a Silver Star. Upon returning to the United States, Jocko served as the Officer-in-Charge of training for all West Coast SEAL Teams, designing and implementing some of the most challenging and realistic combat training in the world. So why is Jocko opening up? Well, in part, we have mutual friends. Second, he is the co-author of an incredible new book — Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win -- which I've been loving. Trust me. Buy it. This is his first mainstream interview and one you won't want to miss. Show notes and links for this episode can be found at www.fourhourworkweek.com/podcast. Wealthfront is a massively disruptive (in a good way) set-it-and-forget-it investing service, led by technologists from places like Apple and world-famous investors. In fact, some of my good investor friends in Silicon Valley have millions of their own money in Wealthfront. Why? Because you can get services previously limited to the ultra-wealthy and only pay pennies on the dollar for them, and it’s all through smarter software instead of retail locations and bloated sales teams Check out wealthfront.com/tim, take their risk assessment quiz, which only takes 2-5 minutes, and they’ll show you—for free–exactly the portfolio they’d put you in. Turning Kids Into Grown-Ups. Parenting is fraught with uncertainty, changing with each generation. This hour, TED speakers share ideas about raising kids and how — despite our best efforts — we're probably still doing it wrong. Guests include former Stanford dean Julie Lythcott-Haims, former firefighter Caroline Paul, author Peggy Orenstein, psychologist Dr. Aala El-Khani, and poet Sarah Kay.
Parenting Doesn't Matter (Or Not As Much As You Think). The multibillion-pound parenting industry tells us we can all shape our children to be joyful, resilient and successful. But what if it’s all bunk? Intelligence Squared are bringing together a panel of top geneticists and parenting experts to explore just how important parenting is.Arguing in favour of the motion are Robert Plomin, Psychologist and Professor of Behavioural Genetics at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London; and Stuart Ritchie, Lecturer in the Social Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry Centre at King’s College London.Arguing against the motion were Susan Pawlby, a developmental Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of experience working with mothers and babies both in clinical and research contexts; and Ann Pleshette Murphy, a therapist, parenting counsellor and advocate for young children and their families. The debate was chaired by Xand van Tulleken, a medical doctor and broadcaster who has presented numerous shows for the BBC and Channel 4, often alongside his identical twin brother Chris. Rank #1: Forget Funnel Hacking with Shawn Lynam, Ep. 57. On today’s episode of Just the Tips, Dean grants me a new nickname that I actually earned back in the day when I worked in London, The Loud American, but I quiet down a bit to listen to a good friend of mine, Shawn Lynam, tell his story of how he went from the corporate world, to the real estate world, to internet marketing. Shawn really knows his stuff, and in this episode we talk about how to not complicate matters, how to model your success on others, and how to position your offer to make it really sing. This is a great episode of Just the Tips that you won’t want to miss. Jack of all trades, master of all trades Shawn’s story of how he got into entrepreneurship generally and internet marketing specifically may be one that’s familiar to you. He took a job out of college with Lockheed Martin, working up the corporate ladder. But when his sister handed him a book (no spoilers) that also changed my perspective at a similar point in my life, Shawn started getting into real estate. He eventually became so skilled at real estate investing that he quit his job, and then after 10 years of doing that, with a family on the way, he decided to switch it up and start down the path of internet marketing. Since then, he’s killed it in yet another industry. If you’re interested in getting into internet marketing, or looking to step up your business’s online effort, you have to listen to this episode of Just the Tips. Sell what’s already selling Sometimes someone says something so simple, you smack your head for not coming up with it first. But when I asked Shawn how to make a great offer, he said: “Sell what’s already selling.” And what he means by that is do your research: Know the market for what you’re selling, and analyze the demand for what you’re selling. You can’t come up with a successful product out of thin air and make people suddenly want it. Now, what exactly does that mean? Sell what someone else is already selling, or sell something slightly different? You’ll have to listen to this week’s Just the Tips to find out. Don’t use your cell Shawn and I actually conducted a really interesting experiment a couple years ago, right before the election, where we started selling election-related hats. We built a funnel and decided to see if anyone would buy, and then suddenly there was a deluge of sales. It was such an enormous rush that we actually had our account frozen for processing too many sales. So I had to open up a new account, and I made one rookie mistake that I’ll never make again: I put my cell phone number down as the contact info. It’s a funny story, but as Shawn says, it’s a legitimate problem that a lot of people run into. Find out how he gets around it on this week’s episode of Just the Tips. It’s funnel modeling, not funnel hacking Shawn says something so smart about halfway through this episode, during a discussion about not reinventing the wheel. As he says, “funnel hacking” isn’t really hacking at all, it’s funnel modeling. So you take something that works, and you take those fundamentals, and you apply them to what you want to do. You don’t have to dream up a new way to do it, you just have to model your success on others. We also dive into the importance of positioning and how that communicates the value of your offer to your customers. Listen to the episode! Rank #2: The Five Pillars of Your Business, Ep. 53. Today’s episode of Just the Tips is just Dean and me, and it starts off with two interesting premises: 1) I’m nice to Dean and 2) Dean doesn’t like podcasts. What better way to start a podcast off than that? But actually, we use the dull podcast that Dean listened to make a larger point about how brands that are connecting with their audiences and customers are the ones who show personality. Riffing on a Wendy’s Twitter takedown of Chick-Fil-A, we make the point that we’re not attracted to people who don’t exhibit personality, so why would we be attracted to brands that don’t? From there, we dive into what’s been happening with the two of us, what secrets I’ve been keeping from Dean, and something that’s been working really well for companies I work with. This is a really fun episode of Just the Tips that I think you’ll really enjoy. An easy way to assess your company’s performance Every business has five pillars that make it sustainable: marketing, sales, operations, delivery and finance. As a business owner, you need to take those five pillars, and rank them red, yellow or green based on how well they’re performing and how well they’re systematized. Red means you’re basically getting nothing out of your systems, yellow means it’s firing on all cylinders, and green means things are cooking. And what’s great is that you can take this framework, apply it to almost any business, and see right away where you are. If you’ve ever wanted a very simple and transparent way to immediately know where you need to improve your company, you need to listen to this episode of Just the Tips. Simple is what gets people to use things At the beginning of the year, both Dean and I talked about how we wanted to prioritize simplicity this year. And while the framework I talked about may simple, the fact is that simplicity is what gets people to use things, and simplicity is what gets people to understand things. Even just breaking things down and saying simply: Here are the five pillars of my business, that can help you identify the hidden structure of your company, and you won’t get lost in the weeds trying to identify what needs to be tweaked or improved. It’s something we’ve said often on Just the Tips but it bears repeating: Simplicity is king. All of the pillars need attention Dean actually shared a great example of what can happen when you’re not paying attention to each “pillar” of your company. When he made the transition from running his company out of his home into an office, he had built up a substantial cash reserve in the bank. But he had to spend that money to outfit the space, expand the team, etc., and that became the main focus. So the cash reserves started dwindling and as he said, all of a sudden he looked and realized they weren’t selling anything to replenish those reserves. It’s a great lesson in ensuring all of your pillars are systematized, and it’s a great story that Dean shares on this week’s Just the Tips. Track your soldiers Even though money is a huge part of why we all become entrepreneurs, it’s often the pillar that people avoid. I told Dean about an episode of Shark Tank, in which one of the sharks said he considers his money soldiers, and that he wouldn’t send his soldiers out unless he thought they could come back. And that is such an important lesson, you have to track your soldiers. You may be a creative entrepreneur, and that’s fine, but then you need to find someone who will handle your finances for you. As Dean says, this is a really value-filled episode of Just the Tips. Outline of This Episode [3:15] The problems with podcasts [6:36] James’s framework [10:50] The power of simplicity [14:43] Dropping the ball on finance [23:00] The money is not sexy [33:56] Dean’s grab bag Music for “Just The Tips” is titled, “Happy Happy Game Show” by Kevin MacLeod (http://incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License Connect With James and Dean James P. Rank #1: Achieve Goal Setting Success Using the OKR Tool, Ep #14. On this episode of Marketing For eCommerce, I share with you the best system for achieving your goals - the OKR (Objectives and Key Results) tool. Success in entrepreneurship essentially comes down to 2 things: knowing what you need to be doing right now and staying focused on that one task. The OKR tool allows you to focus your time and energy appropriately. It works for me and my team, and I want YOU to benefit from this tool as well. Catch all the details on this podcast episode, and also check out this insider video resource. I promise it’ll help you set better goals and accomplish them faster. What is the OKR tool and why is it successful? Before you can start talking about the marketing and tech stack tools your business needs, you need to know WHERE your business is headed and WHY you’re operating the way you are. Used by Google and small startups alike, the OKR tool allows you to reevaluate your time investments and ensure your team is staying on track. It’s a system that combines qualitative objectives with quantitative key results. The OKR tool can give you dramatic results when used correctly, and I outline the four main components to the tool on this episode - be sure to listen! Quadrant #1 - Overall objectives and key results Think of the OKR tool as a grid system with 4 quadrants. In the top right quadrant, you will list your overall objectives and key results. Remember, your objective is qualitative and is an overall goal or vision your company wishes to achieve. Your key results are how you will quantitatively and objectively measure progress on that objective. You’ll typically rewrite your entire OKR system every quarter, so these quadrants will be a guiding force for only 12 weeks at a time. Quadrant #2 - Top priorities that move you towards your OKRs In the top left quadrant, you’ll write down the top priorities that will help you move towards your main objective every week. These tasks can be written in a checklist format to encourage progress and stimulate visually motivated team members. Consider priorities that seem slightly out of reach but are attainable with the right amount of hard work and focus. Quadrant #3 - Big projects on the horizon Quadrant 3 in the bottom left is where your upcoming big projects are outlined. It’s easy to become hyper-focused on one goal while neglecting your previously scheduled milestones, marketing campaigns, product launches, etc. This quadrant will help you prepare accordingly for projects and prevent last-minute chaos. Methods for documenting projects in quadrant 3 are discussed on this episode, so be sure to listen. Quadrant #4 - Awareness of potential sacrifices The final quadrant in the bottom right is where you place potential sacrifices your team may make in pursuit of OKR success. For example, you could place a reminder in this quadrant telling team members to spend time with family in emergency situations or take care of themselves physically. If too many sacrifices are made, the morale of the team will be compromised and goals fall by the wayside. Always remember to care for and care about your team members. They should always come before company goals and progress reports because they are the backbone of your organization. I explain the full OKR tool system on this episode and on my insider video, don’t miss these great insights! Rank #2: FLASHBACK - These 3 eCommerce Strategies Will Set Your Business Apart From the Competition, Ep #31. Some advice becomes even more beneficial the more you listen to it, and that is the case with these 3 eCommerce strategies. A few months ago I attended a Mastermind event, and it’s been worth its weight in gold. I still find myself applying these strategies to my own business and my clients’ businesses, and you simply HAVE to hear them again. For the second flashback episode of the Marketing For eCommerce podcast, we jump back to episode 5, and I promise you won’t want to miss this one. Listen now! Why a $50K Masterminds event is worth the investment and will enhance your eCommerce strategies Many entrepreneurs scoff at the idea of investing so much money into a single event. But, the best eCommerce business people will wholeheartedly support these types of gatherings, if only because of the sheer opportunity for powerful networking. You’re one of those kinds of people, right? Successful people invest and focus on 3 main areas: their mindset, skill set, and networks. Conferences and events allow you to heavily invest in your network. You never know where your next miraculous connection could occur. The best entrepreneurs take the greatest strategies from every industry and implement them in their business model. Mastermind events go beyond rubbing shoulders with other successful people, they reignite your passion for your business. Hear more about the event I attended and what I learned, on this episode. Strategy #1 - Know your metrics, specifically your customer lifetime value True eCommerce success stories recognize and appreciate the lifetime value of every customer. It’s a metric that every successful business person is tracking. If you learn how to determine every customer’s lifetime value, you’ll be in the top 1% of eCommerce sellers. Great marketing will never beat bad math, so eCommerce sellers have to know their numbers. Knowing your metrics gives you the certainty you need to invest in your business and focus on acquiring new customers. When you have a stellar message and know your metrics, it’s “game over” for your competition. Strategy #2 - Utilize the Collier Principle The Collier Principle states that marketers and business people should want to enter the conversation that’s already happening in a prospect’s mind. It’s not your job as an eCommerce seller to create desire. Rather, you should meet every prospect in their current headspace and meet the need or solve the problem they’re focusing on. For example, customers don’t care about buying a ¼ inch drill bit. They care about what the ¼ inch hole will allow them to build, and the emotions they will feel after they complete the project. THAT’S what eCommerce business people need to connect with. For all the details behind why the Collier Principle should be at the forefront of every marketer’s thoughts, be sure to listen to this episode. Strategy #3 - Always operate with a sense of integrity The biggest area eCommerce sellers need to focus on is operating with a deep sense of integrity. It’s the rock solid platform that will allow the rest of your business to launch towards success greater than you can imagine. However, this integrity has to go beyond simply being honest with your customers. It has to become an innate focus on the true results you want to provide. You gain conviction and determination after focusing on integrity, and it’s something no successful eCommerce business lacks. Your call to action after listening to this episode of Marketing for eCommerce? Start implementing these eCommerce strategies in your own business. Even if you begin with a portion of a single strategy, you’ll be light years ahead of your competition. Rank #1: The Story About "HOW" We Got The Book Of Mormon. How it went from Gold Plates to the Book of Mormon ---Transcript--- Hey everyone, this is Russell. I want to welcome you guys back to the Book of Mormon Challenge podcast. I am super excited for today’s episode. I apologize to those who have been waiting. It has taken a while. It’s interesting how when you try to move forward on important things like this how many things get in the way. So today, I got my kids ready for school, I woke up early this morning to get all the outlines prepared, got up, got my kids out the door to school, and then now I’m back in here recording this before I’m allowing myself to go into the office and get started on my day, to make sure you guys have it. Because I keep wanting to dive into 1 Nephi Chapter 1, I’ve got the entire episode all prepared and ready, and there’s so much exciting stuff I want to share with you. But I felt like there was a preamble, something I needed to give and share with you before that. And it’s the story of how we actually got the Book of Mormon. I’m sitting here in my office, and I have as you know, one of the original 5000 books that was printed here. And I’m not so much going to go into how the book was printed and published and things like that, that’s not the purpose of the podcast. But how did we actually get it? Every time I share anything with my friends who aren’t members of the church, they are confused, “So what is this? A new Bible? A new translation?” And not matter how many times I explain it they always get confused. So I want to kind of go through the details of the story and it’s one of the most amazing, insane, cool stories in the history of the world, yet nobody seems to talk about it very much. So I wanted to share it because I think it’s important. And my goal, in fact, my entire goal of this podcast, I think I’ve told you. There’s a couple of reasons, one is to get me to really get back into studying and learning and trying to find out the most amazing things from the Book of Mormon. But number two is to get you excited about the Book of Mormon. It’s not so much me telling you my commentary on the Book of Mormon, that’s not my goal. My goal is to talk about it in a way that gets you so excited after you hear the episode that you have to go and open it, you have to read the next chapter or the next verse. If I can do that, then I’ve done my job correctly. So I figure the best thing I can do today is get you so excited that if you haven’t got the Book of Mormon yet, you’re like, “Alright I’m going to go and just buy one, I’m going to go order it online.” Whatever you need to do, you’re going to get one and so you’ll actually open it and start reading it. So that’s my goal today, just to get you pumped by….because the back story about how it came to be because it really is fascinating. And hopefully you’ve listened to some of the earlier episodes, I talk about the history and all those kind of things. If not, please go back to the very beginning. I’m trying to, all these episodes kind of build on each other. So make sure you’re listening to them as you go. But this story is really, really cool. If you listened to a couple of episodes ago, I talked about Joseph Smith and his first vision. So if you remember that, I’ll kind of recap it really quickly. As a 14 year old kid he was confused and trying to figure out which church to join, and he went and he prayed and had a vision where Heavenly Father and Jesus came to him and said, “Don’t join any of the churches.” And he was like, “What? I never even considered that.” And they’re like, “Yeah, don’t join any church. None of them are here and you’re going to be an instrument to help bring back my true church here on the earth.” So he has this vision and he goes and tells his family about it, tells other people and he thinks that everyone is going to be excited to hear that Heavenly Father and Jesus came to him, and what actually happened was the opposite. He was lucky to have his family and people close to him believe him, but most of the people in the community didn’t. And he was persecuted really heavily. He was, his family was, and it was a really, really difficult time for the next few years. If you can imagine as a young boy having this vision and then not hearing from Heavenly Father again, you’re like, “What happened? Did I do something wrong?” You know, what’s the next step? So that’s kind of where this part of the story picks up. It’s Joseph Smith wondering that same thing, what’s the next step? So most of this podcast is going to be coming from two different things. One is Joseph Smith History. I went through the history and found some really cool parts of the story to tell. And the second one is a talk given by President Russell M. Nelson, who is the living prophet of the church today. This is a talk he gave called A Treasured Testament. He gave it a long time ago, I don’t know, 1992. So a long time ago, but it kind of tells the back story and shares some of the amazing insights, some amazing quoting of stuff from that as well. The goal of both of these things is to get you so excited to open up the book and start reading with me because the next episode we are going 1 Nephi Chapter 1, and we’re finally going to be diving in. So what happened, in Joseph Smith History he was talking about how there had been a space of time between the first vision and he was trying to figure out what to do. And he said during that time, you know he was a young boy. He was a teenager, and as most teenagers, I’ve got two boys, twin boys who are going to become teenagers here in about two months or three months from now. And he started just doing what teenagers do and he said, “I frequently fell into many foolish errors and displayed the weaknesses of youth and foibles of human nature. I’m sorry to say it lead me to diverse temptations offensive in the sight of God. But in making this confession, no one needs to suppose me guilty of any great or malignant sins, a disposition to commit such was never in my nature, but I was guilty of levity and sometimes associating with jovial company, etc. Not consistent with the character of which ought to maintained by one who was called of God, as I had been.” So can you imagine that? You’re a young kid and you see Heavenly Father, you see Jesus, but then you’re a teenager and you’re doing stupid stuff and whatever, but always having that guilt of, I should be better. I know better than this. But continually falling back on those ways. And I don’t know about you, but I have those things all the time, where I feel like our Heavenly Father has blessed me so, so greatly, yet I do stupid things. I’m like, “Why am I doing this? I should be better than that.” And I think he felt the same way, obviously. He goes on and said, “I often felt condemned for my weaknesses and imperfections.” So that’s kind of how he felt going into this. So it’d been I think 3 or 4 years after the first vision and he was like, “Alright, I need to find out where I fit with God.” And hopefully all of us have this conversation. It’s a scary one, it’s one that sometimes I don’t think any of us really want to go ask because you might find out and that can be kind of scary. But Joseph Smith thought, I’m going to find out what God thinks. Am I doing okay? Where am I at with him? So he goes on to say, “I betook myself to prayer and supplication to the Almighty God for forgiveness of all my sins and my follies. And also for a manifestation to me that I might know of my state and standing before him.” Can you imagine going to Heavenly Father like, “Okay, so I need to know my state and my standing. How am I doing? Am I doing good, am I doing bad?” something that I’m sure we’re all super curious about, but man, that’s a scary thing. What if he told you? What if he was like, “Man, you’re doing a horrible job Russell.”? But he did that. But first, he asked for forgiveness of his sins, “I know I’ve not been doing what you, I haven’t been living up to what I believe what you want me to be, so I’m asking for forgiveness. And then I want to know my standing. How am I doing? What should I be doing? You came to me, what now? Obviously you don’t come to everyone, what was the purpose, and what should I be doing?” He goes on to say, “I want to know of my state and standing before him, for I had a full confidence in obtaining a divine manifestation as I’d previously had one.” Can you imagine, he’s like, “I’ve had a vision before, I’m probably going to have one again.” He just believed it that much. I think most of us, we forget of the miracles we’ve had in our life and we just kind of pass them off, whereas he was like, “You know I had a miracle last time, he came and visited me. I think he’s going to visit me again. Let’s go pray.” And he did that, which is such a cool thing. So much faith, I wish I had that faith like that. So he went in there and asked for forgiveness of his sins, he prayed to know his state before God and what happened next is amazing. What happened next is an angel came and appeared to him in his room. And the angel’s name was Moroni. So those of you guys who don’t know who Moroni is yet, you know obviously the word Mormon from the Book of Mormon. So Mormon was the last prophet, one of the last prophets in the Book of Mormon and he had a son named Moroni. Moroni was the last one who was kind of writing all the history and he was the last righteous person in the land at the time, so he had been entrusted with these Gold Plates. These are metal pages that they had been etching in their history for 600 years of what was happening with them and with God, it was their journals. So he had all of these, they called them Gold Plates, where they were metal pages and they all had all these things etched in them. So Moroni had these and before he died he went and buried them in a hill so that nobody could find them. But they were a history of his people. So that’s kind of who Moroni was. So he’s sitting there in bed praying to find out his standing before God and all the sudden this angel appears to him. And the angel’s name was Moroni and Moroni started talking to him. And the first thing Moroni tells him is, “Hey, just so you know Joseph Smith, my name should be had for good and evil among all nations, kindred’s and tongues, where there should be both good and evil spoken among all people.” So you imagine that, an angel comes and just so you know, if you start on this mission, your name is going to be used for good and evil. So people who love you are going to think that you are the greatest thing in the world, and the rest of the world is going to hate you and think you’re an evil, horrible person. Can you imagine stepping into your mission, you know at this time he was, I don’t know how old he was at the time, but still a teenager, maybe 18-19 years old or something like that. And say, just so you know if you decide to go on this mission, your mission should you choose to accept it is this thing and your name is going to be used for both good and evil. So then he goes on and says, “Okay, there was a book deposited, written on gold plates, giving the account of the former inhabitants of this continent and the source from whence they sprang.” He also said, “That the fullness of the everlasting gospel is contained in it, as delivered by the savior to the ancient inhabitants.” So he said, there’s these gold plates that I buried up in the mountain. He said that on these’s plates are record of the ancient Indians, the people who used to live here in America. And it talks about when the savior came to them. He said that, “I buried these in the mountain and I also, because I know that you don’t know how to speak the language that we wrote in, there are also two stones and silver bows, and these stones fastened to the breast plate constitute what are called the Urim and Thummim.” And he says, “The Urim and Thummin are what were called seer stones, these stones are what would constitute seers in ancient or former times, and that God had prepared them for the purpose of translating this book.” So he didn’t know what these were, but he said, “There’s these seer stones, if you look through them you’ll be able to translate the Book of Mormon, they’re also buried in the mountain.” And he kind of explained the whole thing. So I’m sure Joseph Smith is like, “Oh my gosh, this is so cool. There’s these buried gold plates in a mountain and there’s these seer stones. If I look through the stones I can translate this ancient language.” This is, I don’t know about you, but this is better than any movie in the history of the world. So the angel’s telling him this stuff, then after that the angel starts quoting him scriptures. So he’s quoting him scriptures from Isaiah and Malachi and all these things. So he’s quoting these scriptures and he quotes the scripture and he says, ‘This is about to be fulfilled.” And he quotes another scripture and says, “This is about to be fulfilled.” And he quotes another one and says, “This is not yet fulfilled, but it’s soon going to be.” So the angel is like telling him, all these things these ancient prophets wrote about, like Isaiah, all these people, they testified that in the coming days, in the future, these things are going to happen. He’s like, all those things are being fulfilled right now. You are the literal fulfillment of all these prophecies of all the prophets up until this point. Can you imagine being this kid, sitting here thinking I’ve read Isaiah, I’ve read these people, I’ve read these words and what they were talking about was happening. I’m experiencing this right now. Can you imagine that? Imagine yourself as a kid going through this. So he goes through the things, he shares all these things, and at the end of it, then the angel leaves. So Joseph is sitting here in bed going, “What in the world just happened? An angel visited me, told me about these gold plates, these really cool Urim and Thummim, seer stones, I’ll be able to translate this book. Then he started telling me all these, quoting these scriptures and telling me that all this stuff is actually happening right now and it’s coming true. And he’s telling all this stuff….” And as he’s thinking about it, pondering and meditating about it, all the sudden the light comes back in the room and the angel appears again. So the angel appears a second time and then tells him the exact same thing. And he’s like, “What in the world?” So he tells him the exact same thing as the first time. So he’s like, okay I get it. He listened to the whole thing, and the second time the angel added something, he said he informed him, “There’s going to be great judgments which are coming upon the earth and great desolations by famine, sword and pestilence and these grievous judgments should come upon the earth in this generation.” So he said that and then he left again. So the first time he comes and tells the story and leaves. The second time he comes again and tells the entire story again and then he’s like, “Oh by the way, in the very near future the whole world is going to be roght with desolations, famine, sword, pestilences and the grievous judgments are coming upon the earth because this is a wicked time and a wicked place we live in.” and then he leaves. Can you imagine, Joseph Smith is probably like, “What? An angel came to me twice. You just told me again that all the fulfillment of all these prophecies are happening…” and he’s sitting there thinking about it, and guess what happened? The same messenger came a third time. He said he gave him the exact same message again, but this time he added a caution, and this is what he said, “The same messenger at my bedside and I heard him rehearse or repeat over again to me the same things as before, and this time he added a caution to me telling me that Satan would try to tempt me in consequences of my indignant circumstances in my father’s family.” Because Joseph Smith’s family was really poor at the time, “To get the plates for the purpose of being rich. This he forbade me saying I must have no other object in view of getting the plates but to glorify God, and must not be influenced by any other motive than that of building the kingdom. Otherwise, I would not get them.” So he comes back and tells the whole thing and says, “Oh by the way, these gold plates are worth a ton of money and just so you know, you are going to be tempted like crazy from Satan to sell these things because you are poor and you are broke and if you try to use that for any purpose like that, if you even think about it, you’re not going to get them.” In fact, in another spot he actually says, “You’ll be destroyed if you try to use them for anything else.” Can you imagine this angel telling you, just be good or you’re going to be destroyed. I don’t know about you, but that would scare me a lot. So he gets the warning, be careful what you do with these because it really, really matters. So then the angel leaves again, and that’s when it ends. So now he’s sitting there, and he’s laying there in bed and all the sudden the sun starts coming up and he realizes, “I’ve been talking to this angel the entire night.” So he gets up and he’s like, “I gotta go to work in the farm.” So he runs out, starts working in the farm and he’s super tired, he hasn’t slept all night and his dad notices how tired he is and says, “Go back home, go take a nap, go get some sleep.” So he’s walking back to the house and he’s jumping over this fence as he’s going back to the house and he passes out, literally falls on the floor and just goes unconscious. And a few minutes later he wakes up, and guess who he sees when he wakes up? The same angel again. And the angel tells him the same message again. The entire message. Then after he tells him the message, then he’s like, “Go tell your dad what I just told you.” I wonder if he was just like, “Dude, I spent the entire night with you. Why wouldn’t you have told your parents about this?” So he tells him the whole message again and says, “Go tell your father.” So Joseph Smith gets back up, walks over to his dad and is like, “Alright dad, this is what happened, a messenger came…” and tells him the whole thing and his dad, and this is so telling of the relationship this father and son had, his father told him, “This is from God. You need to go do exactly what the angel told you to do.” So the angel had told him in the vision exactly where the gold plates were at, and they were in a hill called Hill Cumorah, which happened to be right by his house. I wish I had time, I wish I had enough time to have researched this ahead of time, I wanted to but I just ran out of time and I wanted to get this episode out. But it’s interesting, all the things the lord had to do to get Joseph Smith to end up in Palmyra, New York next to the Hill Cumorah. His family wasn’t born there, he wasn’t raised there, they were born somewhere else. And there were all sorts of insane things. There was a volcano that erupted that made their family crops die, which made them go bankrupt, which made them move their farm three or four times to eventually get to this spot hundreds of miles, I don’t know how far away, hundreds of miles away from where they were born and raised to this farm that happened to be next to the exact same spot where angel Moroni, where Moroni before he was an angel, where Moroni had buried these plates. So the lord had moved their family and shoved them to this spot, boom, so they were in the right spot to be able to go and get those plates. So Joseph Smith knew where, he’d seen the vision of exactly where it was at, so he walked over to the Hill Cumorah and found the spot where those plates were at and let’s see if I can find where it says….its talking about the Hill Cumorah, he said, “On the west side of this hill, not far from the top under a stone of considerable size, lay the plates deposited in a stone box. The stone was thick and rounding in the middle and on the upper sides, and thinner towards the edges so that the middle part of it was visible above the ground, but the edges all around were covered with earth.” So imagine this, Joseph finds this spot and he’s like, “This is it, this is the spot.” And then he started digging it out. So it says, “Having removed the earth, I obtained a lever which I got fixed under the edge of the stone, and with a little exertion I raised it up, I looked in and there indeed I beheld the plates and the Urim and Thummim, and the breast plate, as stated by the messenger. The box in which they lay was formed by laying stones together in some kind of cement. In the bottom of the box lay two stones cross ways over the box and on these stones lay the plates and the other things with them.” Can you imagine that? You have these visions and then you go and you find this rock, you move the rock and then boom, in there, just like the angel had said, there are these gold plates, and there’s the Urim and Thummim to translate, everything is there. I can’t even imagine, as a teenaged kid, can you imagine find that? That’s like the greatest treasure in the world. So the first thing he does when he sees it, is start grabbing it to pull it out. That’s the first thing I would do, I need to touch it. And he started to grab it and he said, “I made an attempt to take them out, but was forbidden by the messenger and was again informed that the time for bringing them forth had not yet arrived, and neither would it until four years from that time. But he told me I should come to that place in precisely one year from that time, and that he would there meet with me, and that I should continue to do so until the time should come for obtaining the plates.” So he’s like, “don’t touch these plates, you’re not allowed to.” And he’s like, “Ah, but I want the gold. This is so cool.” And the angel’s like, “Don’t touch it. You gotta come back next year.” So he goes on to say, “Accordingly, as I had been commanded, I went at the end of each year and at each time I found the same messenger there and received instructions and intelligences from him at each of our interviews, respecting what the lord was going to do and how in what manner his kingdom was to be conducted in the last days.” So every year for four years he goes back, the angel talks to him again, sends him away. He comes back and keeps doing this for four more years. So for four years he gets to learn about him, see him. I’m sure, can you imagine how much curiosity he’d have, “What is on these things. I want to read them so bad.” Okay, then fast forward a little bit later, after four years, he says, “The length of time had arrived for obtaining the plates and the Urim and Thummim and the breast plates on the 22nd day of September 1827, having gone as usual at the end of another year, to the place where they were deposited. The same heavenly messenger delivered them unto me with this charge, that I should be responsible for them, that if I should let them go carelessly or through any neglect of mine that I should be cut off. But if I would use all my endeavors to preserve them until he, the messenger, should call for them, that I should be protected.” So I’m going to trust you with these gold plates, but if you lose or you neglect them you will be cut off. I don’t know exactly what cut off means, but it does not sound like very much fun. So he finally gets the gold plates and the chance to take them, and there’s rumors. Because he’s been talking about this, he’s told people an angel came to him, there’s gold plates, he told people about it and people didn’t believe him. But they thought, “Well, if he does have gold plates then we want them.” And the persecutions that came from that point forward were insane, people trying to steal them and trying to murder him. There are so many stories that I just don’t have time to tell you guys today, but it’s crazy. But I do want to share a little bit about the translation process, because this is the coolest part. This is why this book, again I’m holding in my hand right now, one of the original 5000, why this book is so exciting. Because imagine this, if somebody told you there was this book that was inscribed upon golden plates that the ancient American’s told their stories, their dealings with God, the talked about God, when Christ came to them, and the entire history of their life, and if you read this book you’ll understand Jesus, and Christ and salvation better than anything else on earth. And it’s all on these gold plates. And to be able to read it you have to translate, and there were these little seer stones that you look through and as you look through them you’ll see the character and it will tell you what the actual word needs to be and be able to find out and decode this book and find out what it is. If someone told me that, I’d be like, “I have to read this book. This sounds like the most exciting, interesting, fascinating story in the history of world.” And it is, yet hardly anybody in the world knows about it. That’s what us, as Mormons are always talking about. “If you understood what’s in this book you would go crazy. If you knew what was here, if you realized what we had to go through to get this.” Imagine Joseph Smith going back for four years and seeing these gold plates and wondering what in the world is on there. These have been protected for thousands of years from the world and now today they are, the lord is telling me let’s bring these out. Aren’t you curious what’s on there? Aren’t you curious, all the revelations, all the prophecies of Isaiah and Malachi, all these prophecies where the angel came back and said, “Look, this is the literal fulfillment of that prophecy. Isaiah was talking about this moment right here.” Aren’t you curious what he’s talking about? What’s actually inside the book? I don’t know how you couldn’t be curious. It drives me wild when people are like, “Oh, well I’m not going to read it.” It doesn’t make any logical sense to me whatsoever, even just out of raw curiosity. What in the world could possibly be in here? Especially when you have people like me where it’s literally changed their life. If you look at, I can’t even tell you happiness…everything…if you know me and follow me and wonder, “Man, why is Russell so happy?” This is the foundation of why. So I don’t know how much more of an endorsement I can give than that. This will bring you more peace, security, happiness….I don’t even know how…it’s everything I’m saying and a whole much more. It’s insane. So I’m hopefully getting you excited to like, “What was on those gold plates?” Aren’t you curious? With that said, I’m going to jump over to this talk from President Russell M. Nelson that he gave back in 1992 because there are some quotes I’m going to share from this. So I’m going to read some parts because it’s going to explain how the translation part worked. Because if you think about this, Joseph Smith was a young boy, he had no formal education, he could barely read, and he had in a very, very short period of time, and I’ll explain that here in a second, had to take these gold plates that were written in some ancient language that most people didn’t even know at the time, and he had to translate them into English, and he did the whole thing in less than three months. So how is that even possible? Now me, as an author I’ve written two books, those who know me, I’m writing book number three right now, just for me to write a book, it takes me four or five years of research, one year of actual writing, and my books aren’t even that good compared to this. This book is weaving out 600 years of history from multiple different civilizations, inside the book there’s all sorts of proof elements. One of the things in here is an ancient type of Hebrew poetry called Chiasmus, I’m probably going to pronounce it wrong, chiasmus, which is this really cool ancient type of poetry that we didn’t even find out about until well after the Book of Mormon was published and then scholars found out about this thing. You go back to the Book of Mormon, the entire book is laced with this amazing poetry where sometimes it’s within four or five versus, sometimes its wrapped within 20 or 30 chapters to be able to see the whole hierarchy of this poetry that’s been built into the book. All these things that there’s no way that Joseph Smith or any human could have done that, unless they lived at that time, actually doing it. Anyway, there’s so many proof elements, but none of those matter. My goal, again is not to get you to prove any of this, other than to read it and pray and ask God, because he’ll tell you. But just to get you excited and intrigued. Alright I’m going to jump into this talk. So the first thing that Russell M. Nelson said, he said, “I’m intrigued that Joseph Smith, an unschooled young man in rural America could have translated this Semitic language mix into the English language. The unlikely scenario relates to Isaiah’s remarkable prophecy. In Isaiah Chapter 29, Verse 14 he said, ‘I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and wonder.’ This, the becoming forth of the Book of Mormon, the restoration of the church, this is the marvelous work and wonder that Isaiah was prophesying about, that the angel Moroni came back and said, “Look…remember Isaiah was talking about a marvelous work and wonder that’s going to happen in the last days, this is it. It begins today.” Can you imagine that? I’m going to go on and keep reading this. It says, “Truly this latter day work is precisely that. Think of the short time that Joseph Smith took to translate the Book of Mormon. Working from April to June of 1828, Joseph translated the first 116 pages that Martin Harris later lost.” So kind of the back story, and I’m going to actually share this story when we get a little deeper in the Book of Mormon, there’s a huge miracle around it. But they translated the first 116 pages, it was called the Book of Lehi. And when you read the Book of Mormon you’ll notice there’s not Book of Lehi. Where’d the Book of Lehi go? And Lehi was the father of Nephi. So they translated the first 116 pages and Martin Harris got all excited and begged to be able to show his family so they could justify all the money, time and effort he’s spent on this. And Joseph Smith went and asked the Lord, said, ‘Hey can Martin Harris show his family these pages?” and the lord said no. And then Joseph Smith told Martin Harris, Martin Harris was like, “Please.” And they went back and forth and kept fighting and praying and finally the Lord is like, “Fine, go do it.” So he did and he lost the pages. So they were going to start retranslating and the Lord’s like, “No, no, no. I told you not to give it to him, you did, you sinned, you are losing the power to translate for a season.” So he took away his ability to even translate for a while, then they started retranslating it and said, “Look, we’re not going to re-translate that because if you do, Satan will use that as a tool to get people to not believe in this work. So instead you’re going to start on this other book,” that was kind of an afterthought, that was called the Book of Nephi, and again, I’ll tell you that story when we get to the Book of Nephi. It’s a similar story, but it’s written by Nephi, Lehi’s son. So the first 116 pages are lost and we’ll never, we never have had a chance to see those unfortunately. So that was the first translation, then they started over and it said, “Joseph began translating again on Tuesday, April 7,1829 with Oliver Cowdery as his scribe. The manuscript was completed eighty-five days later, on June 30 of that year.” So 85 days, they translated the entire Book of Mormon. I don’t know about you, but it’s taken me more than 85 days just to read it, let alone translating it from an ancient language. “Of course, not all of that time was spent working on the translation. The prophet and his scribes all took time to eat, to sleep, to seek employment, to receive the Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthoods, to make at least one and possibly two trips to Colesville, 30 miles away….” Which again, they didn’t have cars back then, so 30 miles is like 500 miles now days. “…to receive and record 13 other revelations that are now sections of the Doctrine and Covenants, to move from Harmony to Fayette, to acquire the Book of Mormon copyright, and to begin making arrangement for the publication of the Book of Mormon. Conservatively estimated that left 65 or fewer working days on which the prophet and his scribes translated this book, which contains 531 pages in its current edition.” Alright that’s 8 pages per day. “Consider that when you translate a book from another language or as you try to read at your own schedule of the Book of Mormon.” It said, “Oliver Cowdery testified a few days later, ‘these days were never to be forgotten. To sit under the sound of a voice dictated by the inspiration of heaven, awakened with the utmost gratitude of this bosom.” Can you imagine that, sitting there as Joseph Smith is translating this book by the gift and power of God? He said, “Those were days never to be forgotten. To sit under the sound of a voice dictated by the inspiration of heaven.” So cool. It said, “Day after day I continued, uninterrupted to write from his mouth as he translated the history of a record called the Book of Mormon.” He goes on to say, “The details of this miraculous method of translation are still not fully known, yet we do have few precious insights. David Whitmer wrote: ‘Joseph Smith would put the seer stone into a hat, and put his face in the hat, drawing it closely around his face to exclude the light, and in the darkness the spiritual light would shine. A piece of something resembling parchment would appear and on that appeared the writing. One character at a time would appear, and under it was the interpretation in English. Brother Joseph would read off the English to Oliver Cowdery, who was his principle scribe, and when it was written down and repeated to Brother Joseph to see if it was correct, then it would disappear and another character with the interpretation would appear. Thus the Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power of God, and not by any power man.’ Can you imagine that, he just got the gold plates, they’re in this hat or something, and then he pulls it up so there’s not light shining in there and he’s got this stone and he looks down and he looks at the character, which is like, imagine ancient reformed Egyptian, right, a little thing. And he puts the seer stone over it, and below the seer stone it’s like, “This is what that word or that phrase means.” He would say the word, he’d write it down, and it would disappear and he’d go to the next word. I can’t even imagine how cool this is. This is better than if you guys watch those movies like National Treasure or something, where they’re trying to decipher the secret message from the founding fathers. This is secret messages from God. This is secret messages from his prophets on ancient America, aren’t you curious what he said? I hope you are. Alright, let me come back in here. So Emma Smith, this is Joseph’s wife, it says, “Emma Smith, who acted as an earlier scribe for Joseph gave this account in 1856: ‘When my husband was translating the Book of Mormon, I wrote a part of it, as he dictated each sentence, word for word, and when he came to proper names he could not pronounce, or long words he spelled them out, and while I was writing them, if I made any mistake in spelling, he would stop me and correct my spelling, although it was impossible for him to see how I was writing them down at the time. Even the word Sarah he could not pronounce at first, but had to spell it out and Ij would pronounce it for him. ‘When he stopped for any purpose at any time he would, when he commenced again, begin where he left off wiout any hesitation, and one time while he was translating he stopped suddenly, pale as a sheet, and said, ‘Emma, did Jerusalem have walls around it?’ when I answered yes he replied, ‘Oh I didn’t know, I was afraid I had been deceived.’ He had such a limited knowledge of history at that time that he did not even know that Jerusalem was surrounded by walls.” I got chills just sharing that. Can you imagine, he’s reading stuff and sharing it and he’s discovering it as we’re discovering it and we’re reading it. He’s asking Emma is that actually true? That is so cool. It says, “On another occasion Emma recorded: ‘The plates often lay on the table without any attempt at concealment, wrapped in a small linen tablecloth which I had given him to fold them in. I once felt of the plates as they thus lay on the table, tracing their outline and shape. They seemed to be pliable like thick paper, and would rustle with a metallic sound when the edges were moved by the thumb, as one does sometimes thumb the edges of a book.” “Although the prophet would polish his skills over the years, Emma acknowledged that Joseph possessed only rudimentary literacy at the time he translated the gold plates.” This is coming from his wife, who loves him. I can imagine most husband’s spouses are willing to tell the true story about who the person actually is. So this is what Emma said about Joseph’s ability to actually do something like this. She said, “Joseph Smith could neither write nor dictate a coherent and well-worded letter, let alone dictating a book like the Book of Mormon. And though I was an active participant in the scenes that transpired, it is marvelous to a me, a marvel and a wonder, as much so as to anyone else.” So his wife is like, there’s no way he wrote this book. I love him but he’s not that smart. He couldn’t even dictate a coherent or well-worded letter. So it’s just, it’s fascinating. So as you go on here, that kind of gives you kind of a glimpse of what happened as they translated this book. And then the story afterwards, again, I could spend 20 podcasts just pre-setting up the book, but I want to get into the book. But after that they had it translated right, so it was written out and then they had to go and there is a whole story about how they got EB Grandin to actually print this book that I’m holding in my hands right now. They went and had to get it typed so they had to get the money for it. If you look back in the day, they didn’t have type writers or printers, they had to get every letter, letter by letter, THE, print it out and stamp ink on it, and they’d stamp that onto a piece of paper and cut the bindings, sew it together. So when I look at this book and I open it up and I look at the ink and how it’s so hard to read in some areas and I look at the bindings how they’re hand sewn together. I look at the sacrifice that went into this, but not just that. The translation that happened prior to it, and then to get this book and all the people trying to steal the gold plates from him and eventually, the angel took the gold plates back. And then they get the book, get it printed, get it out there, and then they thought, “Man, everyone in the world is going to freak out when they see this. They’re going to be so excited. Can you imagine the miracles that happened for us to get this thing.” And they gave it out to the world initially, as you know, the world didn’t just runningly accept it. People did, but not everybody. And to this day it’s still, Satan fights against it so hard because he doesn’t want it to get into people’s hands. But as you read the Book of Mormon, in this talk he shares like 30 different amazing things about the Book of Mormon, but there’s one that I want to stress because it’s the key. I think that the biggest tragedy to me is that Christians who are great Christian people who are scared to read it or don’t want to read it, or whatever it might be, and we’ll get more into those reasons as we dive into the book, but I want all my Christian brothers and sisters to feel comfortable with this. So this is one thing that President Nelson talked about, he said, “The Book of Mormon reveals that Jesus of Nazareth, born of Mary is literally the son of God. No book of scripture bares more solemnly the weighty burden of that testimony than does the Book of Mormon. It’s pages contain nearly 4000 references to Christ using more than 100 different titles for him. His holy name is mentioned on the average of once every 2.8 verses. No wonder this book has been designated another testament of Jesus Christ.” So anyone who’s scared like, “This is going to take away from the Bible. Or this is going to take away from Christ.” Or whatever, no. This is another testament of Christ. The whole purpose, the whole focus of this book is to get people to believe in Christ, to get them to turn their heart to Christ. It is the most amazing proof we have that our savior came to this earth, that he died, and he was resurrected again. I promise you that if you read it and you ponder about, and you pray about it, you don’t have to take my word for it, you don’t have to take anyone’s word for it. But if you pray, if you read and you pray about it, our Heavenly Father will tell you it’s true. I had an interesting talk yesterday with one of my friends and he said that there was someone who lives by us, who as a young boy became a member of the church and got baptized and then left. He hasn’t been back to church for, I don’t know 50-60 years. And he was going and he was trying to get him to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it and find out what he once knew. So finally the guy said, “I commit, I will read the Book of Mormon and I’ll pray about it.” And he’s like, “Cool.” So he came back a week later and said, “How’d it go?” and he’s like, “Well, I spent 3 hours online researching the Book of Mormon and I didn’t feel good.” And he said, “Well of course you didn’t. What were you reading about it.” And he kind of told him, and he’s like, “you’re reading people who hate the church, who hate the Book of Mormon. How do you think you’re going to feel.” And he’s like, “I didn’t feel good about it.” And he said, “How about this, I want you to take a different challenge. This time spend 3 hours actually reading the Book of Mormon and then tell me how you feel.” That’s the test. When you read the book you will feel the Lord’s spirit, you will feel the Holy Ghost, you will feel the feelings of God because this book is from him. Don’t read about the book, that’s my one fear of this podcast , you’re going to listen to me talk about the book and then you’re going to base your judgments based on that. Please don’t. My only goal of this podcast is to get you so excited that you go and you open the book and you read it. And if you read it you will feel that, I promise you that. You’ll read it and you’ll feel it and then pray about it and ask God if it’s true. Don’t take my word for it, don’t take anyone’s word for it because that’s not the goal. The goal is not to convince you of anything, the goal is for you to read it, to feel it and then to pray and ask God. And then if you do, it’ll change your life. I promise you that. It’s changed my life, it’s changed millions of other people’s lives around the world and it’ll change yours as well. Alright to end, I want to end actually reading part of, the ending part of this talk from President Nelson and then I want to share my testimony as well. But I thought he did such a good job kind of summing this up. He said, “It is a book that the Lord Jesus Christ has personally testified to be true. In the form of an oath, the Lord said, referring to the Prophet Joseph Smith’s work, ‘He has translated the book, even that part which I have commanded him, and as your Lord and your God liveth it is true.’ So that was in Doctrine and Covenants section 17 verse 6 where Jesus Christ himself testified that the Book of Mormon is true. He said, “you know well that this promise that the Lord offers to the readers of the Book of Mormon. If you do these last commandments of mine, which I have given you, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you, for my grace is sufficient for you, and you shall be lifted up at the last day. “The Prophet Joseph Smith declared and his successor, President Ezra Taft Benson, has reaffirmed that at the Book of Mormon is the keystone of our religion. It is a treasured testament of truth. It is the prophesied sign that the Lord has commenced to gather Israel and fulfill his covenants. “ So I just want to testify to you, just like the angel did when he told Joseph Smith when he came three times in the night and again the next day, and then every year for the next four years. He said that all of the prophecies from the old testament, all of the things that Isaiah and all these prophets wrote about, that were going to happen in the last days, they’re happening. It’s happening all around you. And Satan’s going to deceive you and try to get you blind to it by keeping you busy and I feel this in my life every single day. There’s so many things that are happening. So many things fighting for our time, good things that are fighting for our time, it’s hard to keep our eyes open enough to look for the truth. But it’s there, it’s right in front of our eyes. It’s been restored. There was a boy who was humble enough and worthy enough to pray and get Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to come to him. He then, through the gift and power of God was able to go and find these Gold plates, this old record of people who lived here on the ancient American Continent. People who actually had a chance to see Christ and feel the wounds in his hands and his feet and put all those things in their record. He was able to translate them by the gift and the power of God. They weren’t translated 10, 50, 100 times by tons of different people. It was translated once. So this book in my hands that I’m holding today is the exact same thing that came, went from the prophets here in ancient America, right into the Gold plates, then from one translation being put here in this book. So when you read this, you know it hasn’t been changed, hasn’t been manipulated. It is literally the words of God. And what’s interesting is that the ancient prophets who wrote this, this book was not for them. They didn’t have a chance to see it right. As you read through the book you’ll see, they were writing this book, the Lord commanded them and said, you’re writing this book. It’s not for you, it’s for a future people who need to have this book. This book will turn their hearts back to God. So they’re like, I’m not writing this for my people, I’m writing it for you, whoever is reading this someday in the future. I’m writing this for you so you’ll know what happened to us, so you can protect yourself and you can protect your families. So it was written by ancient American prophets for me and for you, specifically for today. Specifically for us to get through the challenges and the trials and tribulations and all the amazing things that Satan’s throwing at us today, this book was written to protect us and to save us and to bring us closer to Christ. He is our savior, he is our messiah, he is our God and he’s our king. I testify to you that this book will draw you closer to him than anything else on this planet. And I want you, I pray that you read it and that you feel it. And if you do that, like I said, your life will be changed forever, just like mine has. So I want to share that with you on the end of this episode, and get excited because on the next episode we’re going to be diving into 1 Nephi Chapter 1. So if you don’t have your Book of Mormon yet, go and get one. If you go to bookofmormonchallenge.com there’s a link where you can get a free one. Or you can go to Amazon, I’m sure you can get a free one on Amazon. Just get a copy of it because I want you to start reading this together with me, otherwise what’s the point of all this work I’m putting into it, right? So we’re going to go to 1 Nephi chapter 1. This is the way that the game is going to be played. I’m going to tell you about 1 Nephi Chapter 1. I’m going to get you so excited, so fired up, and so pumped to read it and then I’m going stop and I’m going to leave you hanging and that’s going to drive you to go and actually read it. And that’s how this podcast is going to go moving forward. I’m going to get you excited about what’s happening, what to look for, the magic, the secret messages, all the amazing things that the Lord has weaved into these verses that if you’re not careful you’re going to miss it. I’m going to set those things up so you can look for them and you can find them so when you read them you’ll have these amazing spiritual moments where you’ll be reading something and it’ll hit you. And for everyone it’s going to be different. Everyone’s at different times and points in your lives. And some things you’ll read and it won’t make sense, and some things you’ll read and you won’t be ready for it. But some things you’ll read and you’ll sit there and be like, how in the world did this prophet, and it could be Alma or Nephi or Leman, not Leman, Helamin or Moroni, how did they know? How did they know that I would be struggling with that today? They literally, they must have put that chapter in for me. They must have put that verse. That phrase must have been for me. They saw our day and they must have known that was for me. You’re going to have those experiences and it’ll be the most amazing, spiritual, coolest things, when those things happen. It doesn’t happen all the time, but I promise you that if you will read this book with me, and dive in there and study it, and you’ll be looking for those things, and you’re praying for answers to your prayers, as you read them, you’ll find that these prophets hid things in here specifically for you, things that you may have read in the past, or other people read and it didn’t touch them, but when you read it, it will hit you differently than it has hit anybody else in the history of time. And you’ll know that scripture was specifically written for you. And that’s what’s so magical about this book. I hope that you take me up on the challenge and you dive in and you read it and you enjoy it. With that said, I will end this episode of the podcast. Thank you so much for listening and for participating. I will see you guys on the next episode when we jump into 1 Nephi Chapter 1.
Rank #2: The #1 way to protect yourself from sin.... As you start this journey, the adversary will try to keep you from reading and praying. This episode will give you the #1 way to protect yourself from sin so you can get your prayers answered. ---Transcript--- Hey everyone, this is Russell Brunson. I want to welcome you back to the Book of Mormon Challenge podcast. I hope that so far you have been taking the challenge, you have been reading, you have been praying and you have been trying to get an answer. I actually want to apologize, it’s been a little while since I’ve done an episode and honestly, it’s interesting, whenever you try to do something amazing in your life, and hopefully this is kind of a metaphor for you guys as well. It feels like the adversary wants to try to stop you. And it’s crazy how the more I want to do this podcast and get in the right state and have the right spirit and all those kind of things, the more temptations and trials and things come up in my life that try to keep me from doing it. And I’m sure for a lot of you guys it’s going to be similar as you try to go on this journey and try to read. The adversary is going to do everything in his power to keep you from actually doing it, to keep you from reading, to keep you from concentrating, to keep you from praying, to keep you from asking. And that’s just kind of his pattern.I felt it, I know that so far since I’ve launched this podcast a lot of amazing things have happened, some huge amazing conversations have been opened with people, it’s just been powerful and amazing. But as soon as anything amazing starts happening, the adversary tries to stop it. So I am here to kind of re-commit and to re-push forward and to be more consistent for you, but also for me as well. Also, just kind of, I’m going to make a couple of changes to the format, so I want to kind of explain that to you here. So this is going to be kind of the last big foundational episode for a while. I’m going to keep doing the bigger ones that are like 30 minutes to an hour, when I get excited about a topic I want to deep dive and go there because there’s tons of stuff I want to share. But moving forward, I want to make sure that, sometimes the bigger episodes take me a lot longer to think through and get the notes and stories and get everything perfect, and then obviously praying to make sure I have the spirit, all those things to be able to deliver it to you and I don’t want to keep that from progression and momentum. So what I’m going to be doing, I’ll keep doing some of the longer ones, like this, where we deep dive into things. But after this one I’m going to start jumping into shorter episodes. And the goal with the shorter episodes, honestly is, my goal with the whole podcast is just to get you to read and to pray. That’s it. I want you to read the Book of Mormon and I want you to pray. If I can get you to do that then I’ve succeeded, because that’s my only goal. So as I shift from the episodes moving forward, you’ll notice I’m going to be picking, for example, it might be 1 Nephi: chapter 1. And I’m going to go and study deep into the commentary and figure out the coolest, most exciting things possible that I can do to get you excited to read chapter one. That’s my goal. Then chapter 2 I’m going to go and find the best, most amazing, most exciting things and preset the story and get you so excited that you have to go and read it. And I’m kind of good at this in my marketing background, at getting people hooked and excited, so my goal is to hook you, give you a story and then push you to go and actually read each of the chapters. So that’s kind of the game plan. So I’m excited. Next episode will be coming out in a couple of days and we’ll keep moving forward a little bit faster on those. And again, my goal with this is to get you into the book, reading and praying. So that’s kind of the goal. After the last episode we talked about how to get your prayers answered. I got so much good feedback from all of you guys and I appreciate it. But honestly, the biggest feedback I got from people and it’s also interestingly enough, the same thing that I struggle with the most and so I wanted to address it in this episode. The title of this episode is called “No more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.” So the biggest question, the biggest problem people were messaging me with were, “Russell, I want to read and I want to pray but I don’t feel worthy. I don’t feel like I can get an answer.” Or “I know that I’m not living right in my life, and I struggle to repent and I don’t know how to do it.” Or “I’ve tried to repent but I’ve fallen back in and the things that I try to do right, Is in and I make the mistake again.” Or all sorts of things like that. “I want to do good Russell, but I keep making mistakes and because I make mistakes I don’t feel worthy to actually pray and get the answers.” And like I said, that’s the pattern, what the adversary wants to do. As soon as you try to take a step towards the light and towards truth, he will immediately bombard you with everything he can to distract you, to make you sin, to make you feel guilty, to make you not feel worthy because those are the feelings and the thoughts and things that will keep you from reading and praying. So first off, I want to give some context and some things to kind of help you guys with, because it’s something I have struggled with my entire life. I think I’ve been on this planet for 38ish years now and I struggle with this on a daily basis. So I know I’m not alone, and if I am alone then this episode is for me. But if I’m not alone, then hopefully this will be for you as well. Alright, some of the context to this and what, honestly it’s the thing that, not frustrating. That’s not the right word, but the thing that I struggle with the most is I want to do good. And there’s a scripture in Mosiah and I’m going to read it and it comes back to the title of today’s presentation. Again, the title is “No more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.” So in Mosiah 5:1,2 if you’ve read the Book of Mormon, there’s this amazing king, his name is King Benjamin. He’s about to die and before he dies he gets all his people together and he starts preaching to them, kind of his last message, “What can I do to help you guys to make sure you’re going to succeed in life, you’re going to be good people, you’re going to be able to return back to God?” And in this speech if you look at verse 1 and 2 of Mosiah Chapter 5 this is what he says, “And now, it came to pass that when King Benjamin had thus spoken to his people, he sent among them, desiring to know of his people if they believed the words which he had spoken to them. And they all cried with one voice, saying: Yeah, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually. “ I remember reading that in seminary when I was a kid and thinking, “Oh my gosh. As I soon as I get the spirit, as soon as I know it’s true, the most amazing thing is going to happen to me. I’m never going to have the desire to sin ever again.” That’s what I interpreted this, King Benjamin’s people heard his word, they were excited. They were like, “I’m going to do this.” And it said they had no more disposition to do evil but to do good continually. So I always thought that as soon as I repented, as soon as I was right, that I would have no more desire to do evil, but I’d only want to do good. And then suck us into the real world and guess what happened, I felt the spirit, I wanted to change, I did change. But what shocked me, what surprised me was that all the sudden my desire to do evil did not go away. Actually let me step back, my desire to do evil did go away, but my….how do I explain this right? I didn’t want to do sin, but I still sinned. I still got tempted, I had temptations, I had trials, all these things that pulled me back into sin. So while I had a disposition to do good continually, I didn’t want to do evil, I still sinned. And I kept sinning and I kept sinning and it was so hard and so frustrating. In fact, to this day I still struggle with this. I know, I think all of us have our temptations, our sins that we struggle with. And while I have desire, I’m going to point my life, I feel similar to how King Benjamin’s people felt. I have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually. But I want to add dot, dot, dot, yet I’m still tempted like crazy and I fall way too often. That’s how, if it was me writing the scripture, that’s what I would have said. “Russell has no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually, yet for some reason he’s so weak he keeps screwing up, therefore he’s yet to be perfect.” That’s how I felt and I remember being frustrated by that and if you read in Matthew, Matthew 26: 41, in this scripture he’s talking about this, he says, “Watch and pray that y enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak.” When I read that I was like, okay, that’s how I feel. I’m willing, my spirit is willing to do it, but my flesh is weak. And I was like, I’m frustrated, how do I….. I don’t want my flesh to be weak. Why am I so weak? And it’s funny, if you look at our problems, our issues, it all comes down to our flesh, our body. It’s the temptations of the body we struggle with. So our flesh is weak, even though our spirit is willing. Our spirit wants to do what’s right, but then the problem is our flesh. And as I started thinking about this a lot I realized that if you look at our lives here on Earth, what is the big test? We come to Earth, we have a chance to be here, we get these bodies, these amazing physical bodies and then our goal is to see what we’re going to do with them. So if you look at what is the big test? The big test is 100% to do with our bodies. What are we going to do with these bodies? If you look at the commandments and everything, all of the commandments, everything leads to either how you’re treating your own body, or how you’re treating other people’s bodies. So if you look at the commandments or the rules or whatever you want to call them, it’s like what things we put into our bodies. There’s codes of health that the Lord’s given us, there’s things that we’re not supposed to do to our bodies. We’re not supposed to injure ourselves, we’re not supposed to do things like that. Then how we treat other people’s bodies, thou shall not murder, thou shall not commit adultery. It’s the big great test, if you want to look at the big secret of what is this life about, it’s that. How are we going to treat our own bodies and other people’s bodies. So we’re given these bodies, this flesh that’s weak, that wants to do sin, wants to do these bad things and the spirit wants to do what’s right. So the big conundrum, the big problem, the big struggle, the big thing that we’re fighting with is, what are we going to do? Are we going to give into the flesh or are we going to stay strong with the spirit? So I want you guys thinking about that, it all comes down to this. How we treat our bodies and how we treat other people’s bodies. All the commandments somehow tie into that. Either the sins I’m making against my own body, or the sins I’m making against other people’s bodies. There’s not sins against other things, it’s all tied to those, to our bodies. When I realized that I’m like, oh my gosh. I have to figure out how to be able to control, how to be able to control my flesh, how to control my body. So for me, that created an obsession with personal development. If you know anything about me or my background you know that I’m mildly obsessed with this. I built a big company that teaches entrepreneurs marketing and sales and things like that, but really in that journey over the last decade and a half of my life I’ve become obsessed with personal development. How do we develop ourselves? How do we control our habits, our problems, our mindset, our energy, all these kind of things? So if you ever came to my office and you saw, I’ve got a bookshelf with hundreds of thousands of dollars of books and courses teaching personal development. It’s become an obsession with me. I think it stems back, the reason I have that obsession is because it comes back to this problem right here. I have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually, yet for some reason I keep messing up. So I’m like, I need to keep personally developing myself so I don’t mess up. What is it going to be? So I could go on for days teaching personal development strategies and things like that, but there’s a couple of principles and processes that had the biggest effect on me. And I think that when I took repentance, how do I forsake my sins, how do I repent, how do I try to do what’s right? And I took these lessons I learned inside of personal development, the blend of those two things, is what’s helped me to be able to control my flesh and to be able to do what the spirit actually wants me to do. And again, I’m not perfect. In fact, this episode is specifically for me to help remind me of these things. But it has been a huge help to me, and I hope it has helped you as well as you’re going down this journey. Because if we’re not careful, as soon as you start the path forward and start trying to do good, I promise you that temptations, the whirlwinds, the trials, all this stuff is going to beat on you because the adversary does not want you doing the right thing. So if I can give you guys some information and some stuff that helped me, hopefully it will help you guys as well on this journey. So that way you can go and you can read and you can feel the spirit and you can pray because if you do that, your life will change forever. We have to break free of the sins of our body if we’re going to be able to do that. Alright so the thing I want to share with you, and again there’s so much good stuff I could talk about but the thing I think is going to be the most impactful for you is something I learned from Tony Robbins. And if you know who Tony Robbins is, he’s a 6’7” giant, he was on infomercials all throughout the 80’s, if you’ve seen the movie Shallow Hal, he was in Shallow Hal, but I became a friend of his, me and him became friends about 10 years ago. I had consulted for his business and then I was in, I spoke at a couple of his events, he spoke at 2 of my events, I spoke at one of his events last month, so we’ve got a really good friendship and respect for each other. But I remember, there’s so many good things that I learned from Tony, but one of the ones that had the biggest impact on me was at the very first event I went to of his. He started talking about this concept that he called the six human needs. And I’m going to kind of go through it with you guys, but for me, when I understood this, this had probably the most profound effect on me, my relationships, my spouse, my…more so than anything else, so I wanted to share with you because when you understand this process, it gives you guys the tools you need to not only have the disposition to not do evil, but to do good continually, but it gives the framework to be able to resist the temptations and be able to protect yourself and your family so you can actually do what’s right. Okay, so six human needs, this is kind of the concept I want to teach about, and I wish I had a whiteboard I could show you and I could map this out and it’d make more sense. But maybe as I’m explaining it, if you have a piece of paper out, try to write these things down and it’ll make more sense. So the six human needs, there are four needs of the body and there’s two needs of the spirit. I’m going to spend most of the time today talking about the needs of the body because that’s our goal right now, how do we overcome the body? I’ll touch upon the needs of the spirit because they’re important, but I’m not going to focus on that during this podcast. So there’s four needs of the body, a couple of things to understand before I explain what these four needs are. First off, if you in any circumstance of your life, three of these four needs are met, it causes a physical addiction inside of your body. So if you get three of these four needs, you get a physical addiction. So that’s the number one thing to understand. The number two thing to understand is that you’ll notice that two of these things are opposites and the other two are opposites. So it causes this weird conundrum where it’s like I need this and I need this but those two things are opposite, so because of that it causes all sorts of craziness that creates this amazing life that we live in right now. So if you’re writing these things down, the first need of the body is called certainty. Every single one of us needs certainty. So write down the word certainty if you have a piece of paper out. Certainty. We want to feel certain. I want to feel certain that when I come home at night my wife’s going to be there. I want to feel certain that there’s food on my table. I want to feel certain that there’s a paycheck coming home every day. We crave and we need certainty. So that’s the first human need. The second human need is the exact opposite of certainty. It’s variety. I need to be entertained, I need new stuff happening, I need to be… I get fired up and I have variety and excitement with things that are happening. So the second thing our body craves is we need variety. We need certainty, but we also need variety. So that’s need number one, and that’s need number two. Now need number three, this one is significance. I want to feel significant, I want to feel good about myself. When I walk in a room I want to feel good about myself, I want to feel good about my accomplishments, I want to feel significance. So significance is the third human need. Now if you look at the opposite of significance, significance is all about me, me, me, me, I want to feel great about myself. The opposite of that is love and connection. I want to show love and connection and affection towards somebody else. So that’s the fourth human need, love and connection. So if you go write these down you’ve got, certainty and variety. Then you have significance and you have love and connection. And again, certainty and variety are opposites, significance and love and connection are opposites. So hopefully you’ve written those down. I’m going to kind of take you guys through an exercise that when he explained this to me, it just made so much sense. Remember earlier I mentioned that if any situation any three of these four needs are met, it will create an addiction, a physical addiction inside your body, inside your flesh. For example, think about, for those who are married think about your spouse. For those who aren’t married yet, think about the last time you went on a date with somebody. So you meet this new person and you go on a date with them, and what happens? You’re out on this date and there’s variety, the first time you’ve been with them, you don’t know them that well and you’re asking them all these questions and there’s this variety and excitement. And that person, if they like you back, they start asking you questions and all the sudden, “oh my gosh, I feel significant.” You feel significant. “They care about me and they’re asking me questions about who I am.” And you feel that. And then the third one is at the end of the date, you take them to the doorstep and they give you a hug and a kiss and boom, you feel love and connection. And boom, what just happened? Variety happened, significance happened, and love and connection happened and all the sudden boom, that fast it creates a physical addiction, we fall in love with that person, we start dating them and eventually get married and it’s amazing. What happens with most people after they get married? What happens is all the sudden now they are married to that person because they’re craving certainty because they want the fourth human need, they want certainty. So they get that certainty, that person is married, they’re going to be home when I get home. But then what happens? Certainty starts driving our lives, and now variety disappears. Now I no longer want to go on dates with my wife, I no longer do things. We’re certain, but the variety goes away. Year one maybe there’s still variety, year two and by year three and four and five or by year seven, which is when most people start having their marital issues, variety is gone. You have tons of certainty, no variety. So that’s gone. And at first your spouse loves you and talks about you all the time so you have all this significance and you feel special and all this stuff, but eventually the more you’re around someone, the less significant they make you feel, you make them feel because you’re not as enamored with them because eventually you’ve heard all their stories a million times and you’re like, “Yep, it’s the same person I wake up to every single day.” Suddenly that significance goes away and a lot of times love and connection drifts as well. What happens is all those things start falling apart and you lose that addiction to the body and that’s why a lot of times marriages fall apart. For some people, and I have friends who have gone through this and it’s a horrible thing, their marriages start falling apart because this physical addiction goes away. They lose variety, they lose significance, and now maybe they have certainty and love and connection, but they lost the other two. But that physical addiction goes away. And then they go to the office and they start working, and some people become workaholics, this is something I struggle with. I go to work and what happens? I go to work every single day and I sit at my desk and I feel certainty, I know exactly what I’m going to do every single day. And then I’m creating cool things, I feel really excited, I get this variety, it’s amazing. And then people who listen to my podcast or read my emails or see my facebook comments or like my instagram things, I feel significance and I get love and connection from my customers. And all the sudden I’m getting four of my needs met and boom it creates this huge addiction and becomes a work addiction. And sometimes because we’re not getting our needs met at home, we start shifting and get our needs met at work. Maybe we get our needs met at the gym. Some people start going and start working out and every single day they go and work out and they get this certainty working out, plus they get the variety, “I’m working out chest today, and triceps and new exercises, new things, new people.” People check them out, “Man, you’re getting strong, you’re looking good.” You’re getting love and connection and all the sudden all your needs are met at the gym and because you’re not getting them met at home you start shifting to the gym and get your needs met there. It’s interesting. Or, and this is kind of the really negative side of it, is somebody goes to the office and their spouse is, they’ve got certainty with their spouse but variety, significance, love and connection are starting to wane, but they’ve got a secretary or they’ve got somebody they need at work and that person all the sudden thinks they’re interesting and starts asking them questions and they get this significance. And then they start flirting with that person and they get variety and love and connection and boom, that’s how divorces happen, that’s how affairs happen because these needs are met somewhere else. So it’s interesting, and it’s not just in marriage though, it’s in all aspects of life. Some people go to school and they love it, because they go to school and they wake up every morning and get certainty. They get the variety of learning new things, they get significance of getting A’s on their test, they get love and connection of their study groups and school becomes an addiction. I’ve got family members who have got 800 doctorate degrees because they’ve got this physical addiction to school. Drugs are the same way, right. Drugs, you take this drug and you know with certainty you’re going to feel a certain way, plus you get the variety of the amazing things that happen from the drugs, you get the love and connection of the people you’re hanging out with, you’re significant, and it causes a physical addiction. Same thing with food, every time you eat food, you get certainty of I’m going to feel full. But then you get the variety, like last night my wife and I went to sushi, I got the variety of this roll and this roll and it was amazing. And then I’m sitting there talking with my spouse and I get love and connection with the people I’m at dinner with and boom, it creates a food addiction. It doesn’t matter what you struggle with, all of us have different things, but if you understand it all comes down to this. Our body is creating addictions when three of these four needs are met. And then we fall out of addiction when some of these things are not being met. And one thing that Tony said was amazing, when he said it, it was amazing. He said, “if you look at this, there was never a marriage that ever ended where all of the needs of somebody were being met. There’s never been a kid who strayed if all their needs were met.” If you look at family life, and this is something I’m hyper aware of with my kids. If my kids are getting all these needs met at home, they’re getting significance and love and connection and variety, and certainty in the home, they’re not going to leave. It’s when they start losing that addiction that go and start going after drugs or other friend groups or things like that, because they’re craving these needs and they have to get them met somewhere. So people will give up their values, they’ll give up their beliefs, they’ll give up everything in order to get these needs met somewhere. And that’s what’s fascinating as humans. We will give up everything to get these needs met. You will get these needs met one way or the other. So if you’re not getting them met in one aspect in your life, you’re going to get them met somewhere else. It happens, we can’t exist as humans without it. Our body is weak, we must have these. So when Tony told me that, he said, “No marriage ever ended when all the needs of the spouse are being met.” So my wife and I sat down and said, “Okay, how do we protect our marriage.” I said to my wife, Collette, “Collette, do you have certainty?” and she’s like, “Yeah, I feel totally certain you’re going to be here.” I’m like, “Cool, do you feel variety?” She’s like, “Well, not like we used to.” I’m like, “Oh no, variety’s down. Do you feel significant?” And she’s like, “Yeah, yeah. You do a good job.” I’m like, “Do you feel love and connection?” I’m looking at this like I need to create an addiction with my wife with me. How do I light her up? How do I give her variety so that she’s excited? How do I give her certainty so that she feels certain? How do I make her feel significant? How do I give her love and connection? Because there’s been no marriages ever ended where the needs of the spouse have all been met. And the same thing comes back to my wife. She’s asking, “How do I make you feel certain Russell? How do I give you significance? How do I give you love and connection?” With my kids it’s the same thing. When I’m looking at my kids I’m like, “Okay, how do I make sure my kids feel all of these things so they get the physical body addiction here, inside of our home?” For those of you guys who are trying to figure out, how do I get my kids to go to church, how do I get the people that I’m steward of at church, how do I get them connected? It’s the same thing. When people are bored out of their minds at church they’re not getting their needs met, they’re going to leave, they’re going to go do different things. But if you’re in church and you get this certainty of knowing something, you get the variety of learning new things, you get the significance of being able to share, if you get the love and connection of people in the congregation, people you’re around, that’s what gets people to stick, because it creates a physical addiction there. So for you, I want you thinking about, think about the things that you’re addicted to in your life. What TV shows, what foods, what exercises, what people? And start looking at this, are my needs being met by these people? And then look at things that are good that for some reason aren’t the way that you want them to be, and think about are my needs being met there? And it’s like, man if I struggle to go to church, if I struggle to read scriptures, if I struggle to whatever your issue is, my guess is because you’re needs aren’t being met somewhere else, so you’re going there to get those needs met. So for me, this was the big secret, the big aha, understanding this. I started looking at my life and started realizing the reason why I keep going to my pet sin, the reason I keep having these issues is because my needs aren’t being met here, therefore I’m trying to get those needs met over here. When I became aware of that, I started saying, okay I need to figure things out. I’m going to talk about, I’m going to come back to this in a second, but first I want to talk about one more thing because I know some of you guys I left you with a cliffhanger. So those are the four needs of the body and then there are two needs of the spirit, and most people unfortunately never get to the needs of the spirit, because they’re so focused on trying to get the needs of their body met. But the needs of the spirit, number one is growth. So I need to grow, I need to learn, I need to expand. And then number two is contribution, I need to help other people. So those are the needs of the spirit, growth and contribution. So after the needs of the body are met, that’s when typically you start shifting from me, me, me, looking at your own internal desires, to shifting to external. I need to grow and contribute. So growth and contribution are the two needs of the spirit. So those are the six human needs. So the next thing I want you to think about is looking at the things you’re struggling with, looking at yourself and saying, “I have no more disposition to evil but to do good continually, but I keep struggling, because this is where I keep going. I keep falling back into this thing.” And then start looking, “Why am I doing that? What’s the addiction? This thing that I’m looking for, what’s the addiction it’s causing?” It’s creating certainty….look at all the things, “Oh my gosh, it is creating addiction, I keep going back to it.” And then say, “Why am I going there? Where are my needs not being met? Is it with my spouse? With my family? With my church?” whatever the thing is. If you’re struggling at work, I see people all the time they get burned out. I ask why they’re burned out and when I look at it, the reason why they’re burned out is because these needs aren’t being met. It’s not because they’re tired. Our bodies and our minds can handle more, but it’s because we’re not getting the addiction, we’re not getting the needs met in that spot, so we fall away. When our needs are met, we don’t fall away. If you’re getting burned out at work, it’s like what’s happening? I’m losing my variety, I’m losing my certainty, I’m losing my significance, I’m losing my love and connection, which one of these is fading? Then it’s like, lets double down and create that. Alright, some of my notes here. So again, no kids ever strayed if their needs were met. So look at your children, how can I make sure their needs are met? No marriages ever ended when all of their needs were met. So look at your spouse, look at your significant other, how can you light them up, how can you make sure that their needs are being met? And then the last one is for you. What needs are not being met? If you are sinning, it needs your needs are not being met somewhere else, somewhere positive. What happens is we shift from here’s the positive…because it’s not necessarily bad to get our needs met, in fact we have to have it. Our bodies are built in this way where we have to have these four things. So it’s not a bad thing, it’s just that if we’re not getting them in wholesome, good spots, then we’re getting them from wicked, evil things. It transitions. So it’s like, how do I break the addiction over here and how do I create the addiction with the positive things. So start looking for yourself. I’m looking for significance, that’s why I keep going to this issue. I’m looking for love and connection and I keep going to this issue. How do I get it with the positive things? I’ve got a friend and he’s an LDS author, well, he’s not an LDS author. He’s LDS and he’s an author of an amazing book. His name is Ben Hardy and he wrote a book called Willpower Doesn’t Work. It’s interesting, as I’ve been on this journey in my life trying to figure out how in the world to break myself of these temptations because I want to do good continually, I’ve studied a ton about willpower and I’ve read a lot of books on here’s how to do willpower. And what’s interesting is I read Ben Hardy’s book, he talked about when he was going in to get his doctorate, PHD or whatever his big degree was, his goal was to study willpower. And as he got into the study of it, he realized, oh my gosh, willpower actually doesn’t help. It’s not as white knuckle-ness and hoping we die before we break any sins. That’s not willpower, that’s not a way to live. Instead what he found is the only thing that actually has a measurable effect on change is actually changing your environment. Changing the things around you is what makes it easier. An easy example of this is your house. If I’m trying to lose weight and I walk in the house everyday and my cupboards are filled with cookies and ice cream and donuts, you’re not going to lose weight, it’s impossible because the environment will not let you do that. But if you come and take all that stuff out and you throw it in the garbage and you replace with actually healthy stuff, you change the environment, it becomes really easy to lose weight. Same thing in all aspects of life, in business and relationships, you change the environment, you change your life. So what I want to give you through that lens, if I want to break myself of these sins I keep struggling with, it’s not going to be by me white-knuckling trying to “Don’t look at bad pictures, don’t talk to bad people, don’t take that thing.” It’s going to be you changing the environment in a way where your needs are being met somewhere else in a positive way. So become hyper, super conscious of this. The biggest thing I learned from Tony, when you become conscious of something and aware of it, then you can change it and affect it. So for you guys, now that you’re aware of it, now you can affect it. Now you can make that change for yourself. So change the environment and then make sure these needs are being met in a positive way and that your body is not going to desire and pull to this other thing, and it’s going to make it so you can focus on doing good continually because you’re getting your needs met by doing good. So create an environment where your needs are already being met. Create an environment for your kids where your needs are being met. Create an environment for your spouse, for your marriage where your needs are being met. I’m talking about a physical environment. Look around you, look how things are set up, what’s your room look like? If you’re trying to figure out and read your scriptures, where are they at physically? Where are they at? If you’re trying to break yourself of a TV addiction because you’re getting your needs met, you’re certain your show’s going to be on, your favorite show. Variety of what’s the story line today, the love and connection of sitting there watching with your spouse. Boom, it’s an addiction instantly, TV. If your TV is in your room and it’s keeping you from doing the right thing, you have to change the environment. You have to rip the TV out of the thing and throw it away. You need to create an environment where your needs are going to be met. When you do that it takes this pressure and this strain off of you trying to go and, the pressure and strain gets taken off of the thing you keep falling back into. Does that make sense? So all of us has these addictions, all of us have these temptations, all these things that we’re struggling with. So I’ve given you some tools to understand how to beat it, how to change your environment, how to change these things so the needs of your body are being met in positive ways as opposed to negative ways. So that’s the first thing. The second thing, I want to share with you a story, kind of a metaphor that hopefully help you understand why it’s worth it. Now I taught an Elders Quorum class about a year ago and did this example for them and it was pretty impactful and I want to share with you guys. And I wish I could, again, if you were in front of me I could be even more impactful. So I need you to imagine this for a minute. I want you to imagine right now that in your hand you’re holding a silver ounce. I’m kind of a nerd so I collect precious metals, gold and silver and things like that. But if you look at one ounce silver coin, I want you to hold that in your hand and kind of envision this is a one ounce silver coin. I’m going to tell you a story about silver because when you understand this it’s pretty powerful. So if you look at a one ounce silver piece right now, and it fluctuates, everyday it’s going up and down, but as of today it was $18.49 when I was looking at it online. One silver ounce is worth $18.49. I can go to any pawn shop in America, I could take that silver piece in and they would give me $18.49 back for it. That’s the value of one piece of silver. Now the interesting thing about silver, silver holds its value. So if you look back at the US monetary system, when we first started making coins, we actually put silver inside of the coins. It wasn’t 100% silver, but there was silver inside of them. So 1964 was the last year that quarters and stuff had silver in it. So 1964, if you find a quarter from 1964 or earlier, there’s actually silver inside of there, and it was worth what that silver was actually worth. So 1964 if you went to buy a gallon of gas, guess how much it cost? It cost 25 cents. So that’s how much it cost to buy a tank of gas in 1964. Now fast forward to today….actually sorry, let me step back. If you were to take that same 1964 quarter and you were to go to a pawn shop right now and give it to them and say, “Hey, here’s a 1964 quarter, there’s silver in here.” The pawn shop owner would say, “yes, there is.” And what he would do is actually give you $3.34 for a 1964 quarter, because that’s how much silver is actually inside one of those quarters. So they will actually trade you that. Now what’s interesting, if you look at today, if you were to actually drive by the gas station today, guess what? A tank of gas cost about that much, about $3.34, for that same quarter. So that means in 1964 a quarter bought a tank of gas, the silver equivalent of a quarter cost a tank of gas and today that same amount of silver still buys a tank of gas. So you look at inflation and how that stuff works, the value of silver is the same today as it was in 1964, as it was in 200 BC. Silver holds its value throughout time. Now I want to take you to a dark night in Jerusalem where Judas went to betray our Savior. And if you know the story, he traded the savior for 30 pieces of silver. So if you look at that, what’s one piece of silver worth today? Now, obviously I don’t know what size his silver was, but if you look at a silver coin today, as of this morning it was worth $18.49. If you look at 30 pieces of silver, it was $554.70. So Judas traded Christ for the equivalent, this is not $554 in Judas’ time, which is worth $18 million today. No, no. The value of the silver that Judas traded Christ for back in his time was $554.70. How many of you guys would have happily given Judas $554 to leave Christ alone and not take him to his crucifixion. It’s amazing. 30 pieces of silver. Now, when I did this lesson the first time, I actually had 30 pieces of silver on the desk and I looked at those things and I said, “Look guys, 30 pieces of silver, that’s $554 in Judas’ time, that’s what he gave up for Christ. How many of you guys think that’s ridiculous?” And everyone’s like, “No, $500 to give up Christ, that wouldn’t be worth a million dollars, ten million dollars.” I said, “I know.” Then I stopped and said, “I want you to look at this.” And I picked up one piece of silver and I said, “Right now what’s the value of what you’re addicted to instead of following Christ? This one piece of silver is worth $18.49, for some of you guys this is an addiction to TV. Some of you guys this is an addiction to pornography. Some of you guys it’s an addiction to drugs or alcohol or whatever your sin is. Everyone’s got different things, we all struggle. And anyone who tells you otherwise is not telling you the truth.” And I said, “What would you do to not trade this piece of silver for Christ?” So I wanted to give you that object lesson, and hopefully it makes sense explaining it this way. It’s just I want you to understand that each of those coins is these little pet sins, these little things we have to give up. And we’re giving up so little for so much. $18 worth of silver, $554 worth of silver is what Judas gave up Christ for. What’s the value of your sins? Would you give up those things for Christ? That’s the power I want you guys understanding behind here. And that’s the whole vision of this podcast for me and for you. Reading the Book of Mormon is important. It’s going to change your life, it’s going to change your vision, but when it all comes back, it’s coming down to Christ. He died for us, he died for our sins. He paid the ultimate price, the ultimate penalty so that we could someday return to live back with him. And right now, the thing that’s keeping us from that, are these little pesky sins, these little things, these temptations, these trials, these things we have that are holding us back. I don’t know about you, but as I listen to this podcast, my goal is similar to King Benjamin. I want to message you guys later and I want to find out. That’s what Kind Benjamin said, I’ll read it from Mosiah 5:1,2 again, he said, “And now, it came to pass that when King Benjamin had thus spoken to his people, he sent among them, desiring to know of his people if they believed the words which he had spoken to them. And they all cried with one voice, saying: Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.” I want to come out and ask you guys, you’ve been listening to this podcast, you’ve been reading the Book of Mormon, you’ve been praying, how do you feel? I want you to say, “Russell, I feel different. I feel no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually. All these things I’m doing right now, they’re keeping me from Christ, they’re keeping me from following him. I want to give them up. I don’t want to give up Christ for the equivalent of $554 that Judas gave him up for.” That’s how dumb it is, think about how stupid and how petty most of our sins and temptations are. They’re ridiculous, yet they’re keeping us from Christ. Judas gave him up for money, $554 in today’s dollars, that’s it. What are you giving him up for? Think about that for yourself. Now that you understand that, make this challenge real for you. Because it’s the difference from struggling and it’s the difference from actually having that impact on your life and your family’s life forever. So if you listen back to the last episode we talked about how to get your prayers answered, and I think one of the biggest concerns most of you guys had was, “I want to but I don’t feel worthy. I don’t feel in a place where I’m clean.” And I understand that. So my challenge to you and my test to you is to go back and listen to this episode and figure out, okay I need to change my environment so my needs are getting met in positive ways, and when I do that, I’m not going to keep falling into sin and falling into these things that are pulling the spirit away. I’m going to feel worthy because I’m doing what’s right. When you mess up, that’s okay. We all are going to mess up, repent and then look at the environment. What do I need to change to make sure this doesn’t happen again? What are the things I need to do to make sure my needs are being met here in my relationship or my family or my church or whatever it is, the rock, the thing that you need to be able to be successful, how do I make sure my needs are being met there? And if they’re not, how do I make them met? If I’m in church right now and I’m bored out of my mind and I’m like, “I’m not going to go church anymore, I’m bored.” You look at that and say, “How do I create more certainty in church? What is it that I need to do? How do I create more variety in church? Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s not them. Let me come to church and let me, what can I do to light this up? How can I get more love and connection at church? Maybe I’ve been waiting for people to come talk to me, but maybe I go and talk to them? Maybe I create love and connection that way. How do I create an addiction in the positive things in life, so I don’t create an addiction in the negative things?” And that’s the goal, that’s the goal of this podcast, that’s the goal of everything I’m doing right now and I hope you guys take me up on the challenge. If not, I’m going to keep drilling this into your mind every single day until you do, because I promise you when you do, it’ll change your life. I’m going to end with a quote from Ezra Taft Benson, the same one that we have at the intro of the podcast, he said, “There is a power in the book…” he’s talking about the Book of Mormon, “There is a power in the book which will begin to flow into your lives the moment you begin a serious study of it. You will find greater power to resist temptation, you’ll find the power to avoid deception, and you will find the power to stay on the straight and narrow path. When you begin to hunger and thirst after these words, you will find life in greater and greater abundance.” I promise you that if you do this challenge, if you follow me and you do it, you will change your life. With that said, what’s going to start the next podcast episode, I’m starting on 1 Nephi, chapter 1. And I want you guys to jump in and listen to it and I’m going to do my best to get you so excited that you’re going to go read the book. Now if I get you to listen to the podcast and think it’s cool and not read the book, it means I failed. The podcast is not a replacement for the Book of Mormon. It never has been, it never will be. In fact, if you look at it that way, then everything I’ve done here not only is a failure, but it’s pulling you away from it. And if that’s the case I will stop this podcast and I will delete immediately, because that’s not my vision or my mission. My vision and my mission with this is to get you enough belief and enough hope that you will open the book and you will read it, because like Ezra Taft Benson said here, the second you begin a serious study of the book there will be a power which will flow into your lives, the moment you begin a serious study of it. You will find greater power to resist temptation, which will bring you closer to Christ. You will find power to avoid deception, which will bring you closer to Christ. You’ll have the power to stay on the straight and narrow path, which will bring you closer to Christ. Do not, you guys, give up the relationship with your savior for 30 pieces of silver. $554 in today’s dollars, that’s what he gave it up for. Don’t give it up for your sin. Don’t give it up for the thing that’s holding you back. Change your environment, get your needs met and then let’s go and let’s change your life, let’s change your world. I promise you guys that if you do that, life will become better for you in all aspects. With that said, go to bookofmormonchallenge.com, take the challenge, we’re still working on the app, we’ve got a couple of other cool things coming out for you guys as well. I hope you enjoy it, I hope you take the challenge and I will see you next week when we start diving into 1 Nephi, Chapter 1.

Rank #1: SFR 97: Mastermind Or Die.... Click above to listen in iTunes.. Untold ideas are already dying.... Hey, guys. I am very excited for this episode... I've actually had this episode on my mind for, I don't know, it's been a while. I've had a hard time trying to figure out how to actually present it. I want to walk you through a little bit of, I don't know. About four years ago I decided that I would create, every January 1st, I would go and I would create a video that would basically publicly declare my financial goal for the next year, and it's the scariest thing that I do pretty much every single year. It's interesting what has happened though because of those videos. They're on YouTube. If you go to my YouTube channel, you can check it out. About four years ago, it's me, I'm in the army, I've got a shaved head, and I'm like, gosh, you know what guys, if I could just make an extra $1,000 a month that would change my life. That's where I was. I was like, hey, and here's my plan. That was the video for that year. Then three years ago I was like, "Hey, if I could just do $3,000 a month that would be crazy. Oh my gosh, that would change my life." It's crazy, because what I do then as I go through each one of the months and I say, hey, here's what I did, here's how I did. Then the year before this one, I was like, "hey, I just want to do $30,000 a month". That's excluding salary income, excluding any other income on the side. Just my own stuff. I'm pleased that I hit that several times this last year, which is awesome. I want you to know that that's on the side, working for somebody else more than full-time doing ... Still have a family, two kids, a wife. You know what I mean? This is not meant to be that video, but about four-ish years ago. Let me check actually. About three-ish years ago, I so badly wanted to be able to just start being around other people who shared my common interests. I was in college at the time. It was 2015. It was wrapping up the year, and I just wanted to be around other people. I felt like I was very alone, funny enough, even in my marketing degree, my marketing classes, which I love school for the environment it gave me to learn, but I didn't actually learn that much stuff that I use now, hardly at all, which is true for pretty much any education now. That's fine. I had been following Russell for quite some time at that time, and I knew that Russell was really into things like masterminds, and he had this Inner Circle and stuff like that. Honestly, before Russell, before I ever knew who Russell Brunson was, I thought masterminds ... I'm just going to be open and honest with you. Because I had no other expectations at all, I thought masterminds were a way to get more money from people. I didn't know what they were. I had no idea if there was any kind of value or anything like that. My perception was just that it was a high-ticket experience to hang ... It was a reason to hang out with people who paid you a whole bunch of money to hang out with them. You know what I mean? That's what I thought it was. Then when I saw that Russell was doing masterminds and he came out with his Inner Circle, I was like, huh, that's kind of ... Pre-Russell my attitude towards masterminds was very like, "Meh. You're just trying to take my money," or something like that. You know what I mean? That was my attitude. It's more of a scarcity mentality as well by then. This is like three, four years ago now. A lot's changed since then. After figuring out who Russell was though, and after seeing more of what he was doing with his Inner Circle and more what he was doing with that, it became very apparent to me very quickly that this was not a normal thing, that this was an extremely rare opportunity to learn in some really, really high-speed ways. I was seeing the results that some of these people were coming out and saying like, "Hey, I've got these results, X, Y, and Z." And be like, "Holy crap. That's awesome. You get that from the mastermind?" I had to change my mentality. I had to change the way I was looking at it. I found myself really wanting to go attend one of these masterminds. Granted, they're not all the same. The only thing I knew of Russell at the time was his DotComSecrets X product, DotComSecrets book was out, and I had read that definitely by this time. I believe so, anyway. I really just wanted to learn more from him, and I really, really wanted to get into his Inner Circle. I knew I did not have 25 grand though at the time to be able to do something like that. Fascinating, right? Fascinating experience. Fascinating predicament. I know if you're listening to this podcast right now, you've probably been in the same boat before. You've probably experienced it before, be like, "Hey, I wish I could be a part of this program. I wish I could do this or that." The FAT event and funnel hackathon event, secrets masterclass, 2 Comma Club Coaching, he has few different names for it. That's 15 to 25 grand, and for very, very specific reasons. I understood the reasons. I understood why he was charging that much, but I was in college and I still wanted to be a part of that. One day Russell sent out this email, and in fact I can tell you it was December 14th, 2015 at 5:44 p.m. I remember it. I remember this moment. This was a huge moment for me. I went and I actually found the email. I found the email, and Russell said, "Hey, look, there's 74 out of 100 spots taken. As you probably know, I have a small group of entrepreneurs that I personally coach and I call them my Inner Circle. For the past two years, I've had dozens, and dozens of success stories come from this group, in fact." Anyway, he went through and he started talking about it, saying, "Look, this is a new development. I'm going to say that when we're at 100 spots I'm going to end it." I was devastated. I was so devastated. I remember exactly where I was. I was in the campus basically rec center. There was a pool in that room or in that building. I was standing in the hallway and I was walking down in the stadium steps, the basketball stadium steps. Smell of chlorine from the pool from several rooms over was in the air. It was quiet. I was one of the only ones in that room standing in the middle or almost in the middle of the basketball stadium. It was quiet, and I remember reading this email, and I remember out loud actually saying, "No! No! Crap. No!" I was pissed that he was closing down his Inner Circle at 100 people because I knew I would make it somehow, but I knew I couldn't make it at the speed he was filling it. I just knew that I couldn't make it. I was like, "Oh my gosh. No." I remember I sent a message to my wife, and I was like, "He's closing it down." She didn't really know what it was at the time still, or what I was really doing or what I was into and stuff like that. She said like, "Oh, that's too bad." I was like, "No." I remember at that exact moment though, I mean I was crushed. I was shattered over it. I so bad wanted to be a part of that group. Again, this is December 14th, 2015, three years ago. That's crazy. Is that two years ago? What's the year? What's the year? '16, '17. Wait, this was only four months before I got hired. Holy crap. I thought this was longer ago. That wasn't actually. This is only two years ago. Never mind. It's December 28th right now. This is only two years ago. I remember I was pissed. I was so sad that I wasn't going to be able to be in that group, because he had already been changing my life so much, and I had a successful funnel building agency at the time and I was making money for other people, and I was making money for myself finally. Now that I know more of the timeline of where all this was happening. I remember standing in that room. It was silent, but you know like when you're in a huge room and there's really, really high fans, so you can hear the light hum in the air, and there was a little bit of the smell of the chlorine in the air from the sport unit, from the lap pool that was over. The racketball courts were near, and I could hear them ping ponging around. For the most part it was pretty silent. I was standing there, and it was one of those moments that was just like, "I'm going to get in that group. I don't know how, but I'm going to get in it." I stood right there, as soon as I read Russell's email, and I actually wrote him one back. I just clicked reply. I was right on my phone, and I wrote an email back to him immediately on the spot. This is what I said. I know, because I found it. I said, "Dang it. This just breaks me apart. I'm in college and working to get in, and I'm trying to become your dream client, because I know I'm not yet. Thank you for everything you've given me. I can't express how much you've changed my life, but you don't even know me. I feel like I know you because I've gone through so much of your material for years. You're a blessing to me and my family, and I sincerely thank you for all you've sacrificed and given to make sure others are successful. You're one of my very real inspirations and I thank you, Steven Larsen." Then I put in parentheses: "See you at Funnel Hacking live event. Woo!" At that time, that's when I was bootstrapping my way to the funnel hacking live event, because I still didn't have any money, so I was exchanging funnels for the event tickets, funnel for the flight, funnels for the hotel nights, and that's how I got there. Which was literally what, like three months later? Then I sent this email over. No one replied. I didn't expect them to, but I kept sending stuff like this. I sent tons of stuff like this, and what was funny, what was interesting is three months later I was at his event. I applied on a Saturday. I think it was a Saturday, because that's when the event was over. I think that's when it was, on a Saturday. I got a call on Monday to come get an interview, so two days later, two days later. The next day, Tuesday, so this is three days after the event was over, I was in Boise doing the interview. Actually, I think it was on Wednesday, so four days later. I was in Boise in the middle of my finals week and I got the job. I was in Russell's office working full-time within, I think, eight days after funnel hacking live 2016 ended, within like eight days. What was crazy is within a month he had his first Inner Circle, not first, but first since I had been there working for him, a mastermind come up for his Inner Circle. Guys, before I recorded this episode I was trying to find the Voxer that Russell sent me inviting me to come to the Inner Circle meetings. I was blown away. I was like, "Are you kidding me? Oh my gosh." I went berserk. I think I almost killed Voxer, which seems like it's dying anyway. I literally spent, because it took so long for everything to load, plus I was reading all of our old conversations over the last two years. Anyway, it took 30 minutes, and I was one month away from going back to where the messages were, where he invited me and then my response. I was going to take those excerpts of him inviting me and then my response back and put them in the episode. Voxer wouldn't load anymore messages. Said there was no more messages left. There was messages left. I think I just broke it. Super-sad, honestly, that I didn't do that. I went nuts though, I went crazy. I got into the mastermind. I was freaking out. I got there early. I sat down. I was like didn't know if I should talk to anybody. I was like, "Oh my gosh. This is Russell's Inner Circle." I was like, "Oh my gosh." I was kind of slinking around the sides of the room, because I didn't feel like I was qualified to be in there. Just four months, five months earlier I was telling Russell how much I wanted to be a part of it, didn't know how I would, and I ended up now working for him in the same room with him. Like crazy. It's ridiculous. The turn of events, that's insane. That's pure insanity how that all worked out. I sat in there, and holy crap, it was fantastic. Everyone was following the same format in this mastermind, and it was better than I thought it would be. Everyone stood up and they shared something amazing. We're not talking about like little tiny tips and tricks. I got almost straight A's in college in my marketing degree, and I was also that kid who was like fighting with the teachers actively and didn't really get along with a lot of the other students in there, because none of them were doing it. They were all freaking studying about it. No one was actually starting businesses. No one had been doing it. I had been doing it for years by the time I got there. You know what I mean? I was that weird kid who was kind of on the side fighting what everyone thought, or was just taking as face-value truth. I was like, "No, that's no. No, and it's not true because of X, Y, and Z." With that backdrop, the stuff that people were just getting up and openly sharing was ridiculous. What I did is I actually opened up Trello while I was in that mastermind, and just sitting on the side listening and taking notes, I mean ferocious notes. I was going back through reading some of these, and I was like, "Holy crap." It's not like some of the stuff was like, "It only works right now. You got to do it now, because the trick is going to end soon." It's like, no, like the stuff that I'm reading that I learned from that mastermind is still stuff that I both teach and use and apply to this day. That was a year and a half ago, which is crazy, which is crazy. I can't believe, I cannot believe that I got to go do that. Then I got invited to the next one, and to the next one, and to the next one. It was like over and over and over, and drinking deeply with that group, just listening, taking notes. Very super-observant, like just writing it all down. It's nuts to me, absolutely nuts to me the amount of personal progress that came to me because of those masterminds. I'm frankly a little bit ashamed that I ever thought something like a mastermind wouldn't be valuable. Then as time progressed and I started getting invited to go speak places and present in different masterminds, several of them, which has been so much fun, and come be a keynote in some masterminds, and things like that. It's been interesting to see how much I've learned to just flat-out adore them, and not even learn to. It's really easy to love them because they're amazing. I'm very anti-meeting. Meetings freak me out. My first perception was that, hey, I'm going to have to go sit in this meeting and it's going to be boring. I'm going to sit there all day. It's like no, like it is fun. They are high-paced. They are high-energy, and if you've never been a part of one, I want you to have that experience. Want you to be able to know that is. Since I'm leaving ClickFunnels, there are two questions that have been popping up very, very frequently. Very frequently. The first one is, "Steven, will you coach me?" That question has been asked to me like crazy. Is there any kind of coaching package? No. Not yet. I'm sure there will be at some point, and when I decide to do that. I'll tell you why I'm not doing it right now, also. For right now, no. I do 30 minute consultations on people's phones before they go launch them. That's fun. That's awesome, but I don't do active coaching yet. Then the second question that people have been asking me like crazy, I finally have a support team, awesome support system, a ticketing system finally. I finally have structure underneath me that I've been building ferociously in the evenings; it's 1:30 in the morning right now, as I am literally in two days going to be unemployed. What would you do if you knew you were going to be out of a job with like four or five months advance notice? Russell and I both knew way before I ever told anybody. You know what I mean? What would you do? You'd do the same thing I'm doing. It's not exactly relaxing. I almost feel like it might have been easier to just have the whole two weeks notice thing, but instead ... Anyway. The second question I get like crazy is, hey Steven, is there any kind of mastermind or event you're going to be doing? The answer to that one is yes, because I am such a proponent of them. I cannot believe how much growth has come to me because of them. There's 100 people in Russell's Inner Circle. That's four different mastermind sessions twice a year. That's eight mastermind sessions per year, and I've got to sit in a huge portion of them and learn like crazy, I mean from ... Just brilliant. Brilliant. Even the ones that aren't Russell's that I've been able to go like, people are like, "Have you really done much? Have you accomplished much?" Sometimes one of the fears people will have, I've noticed, is they'll be like, "Well, I haven't accomplished these great things, therefore I can't attend because there's nothing to contribute." No. That's not how it works at all. This is very much like a huge synergy situation, where you just put multiple minds together who are trying to go towards a common goal, and it is ridiculous. I don't care what kind of background you have. It's fun to watch just different experiences and backgrounds and stories that people bring to a room and go like, "Oh, yeah. Do this, or X, Y, and Z, or this is my feedback for this." The amount of decision making, the time that it takes to make the kinds of decisions that people need to make in order to be successful, the timeline decreases. The clarity of the path that people go down afterwards is amazing. Clarity not just on the marketing, or clarity on the offer, or clarity on this, but how they actually operate and conduct themselves outside of the mastermind in order to get their goal. I wish I could just dive in and start telling you all of them. I am shamed to say that I have not taken notes in every single one of them. I should have. I don't know why I didn't for a lot of them. Some of it was because I was building funnels on the side. Actually, a lot of it was because I was building funnels on the side, so I'd be listening and when there'd be some massive thing, I'd come over and write it down. I've got this huge, massive, Trello column of just huge. On one side it's direct quotes from Russell from all the lessons of me sitting next to him and hearing him as he's talking to other people on those podcasts. The other one has all these ones that he hasn't actually explicitly told me, but I've learned from him, or gleaned from him either in a mastermind or directly from his desk, or whatever it is. I mean it just blows my mind. I couldn't have gone and got a master's degree, even PhD in marketing or internet marketing or whatever it is, and I still would not have learned even a fraction of this stuff. I know that. I know that, because these are the people who are doing it. These are the people who are out actually proving what's actually happening, what's actually working right now. You know what's funny, like I was saying before, of course it matters who all is in the mastermind. Obviously, if you're more experienced, overall it's going to be awesome, even more awesome. Even if you're not crazy-experienced and you have the chance to go to one, you should do it because it's crazy to see how much actually comes from it. Anyway. I feel like I'm saying the same thing over and over again now, and I apologize for doing so. It's just if there was one thing that I could do the rest of my life, if there was one activity that I would go do the rest of my life and never read another book again, and never take another course again, if there was one thing that would replace it all and I would still feel like I would be able to stay on the edge, the peak, the cutting edge place of the markets, whatever I'm trying to do, it would be masterminds. The mastermind would replace. Now, that's personal preference. Obviously, I've quite a bit of experience in the funnel building world, a lot of it. It's true though. I would put down all these books. I've tons of books all around me. Lots of bookshelves, bookcases and stuff. I love them and they're awesome. It's gold, amazing stuff. The one thing in my mind that has actual potential to replace the huge amount of knowledge in books that's sitting around me or on courses, or whatever it is, is masterminds. It's masterminds. For whatever reason that kind of synergy that comes from people who are truly trying to dive into and dump amazing information in and get amazing things back out, I mean it's amazing what happens. There's this really interesting study that happened actually, and I'll end this episode soon, because I know I've been going for a bit here. There's a really interesting study that happened, I heard the results from anyways, where some people went through and they watched those who contributed the most. Here was the rule. This is what they found out. Those who contribute the most in masterminds, those who contribute the most in masterminds almost always are also the top earners in the room. That wouldn't shock you. That wouldn't shock you at all. Think about that. When you get into a mastermind, and you see people who are just giving and giving and giving and giving and giving and giving, it is very much the antithesis of what most people treat wealth creation and secrets and, "I got to keep all my products to myself, and no one's going to know what they are. If I say anything, someone's going to steal it." It doesn't really happen that way. Guys, I tell you everything that I do and there's maybe like one or two people who have attempted and kind of done the stuff that I say, kind of done. Why? It's because I'm a different person with a different background, different frame of mind. Even if they did take the same idea and they did try and go, they still would execute it differently than I did. Ideas when they are shared grow. Ideas when they are shared actually turn into better ideas. You get up, and you stand up, and you actually start sharing all of your best stuff with the room, and you'll be shocked, shocked, completely floored, completely floored at what ends up happening to your idea, things you would never, ever, ever have thought of or it would have taken you a very long time to think of. Time is money. Anyways, I have a mastermind. It's not necessarily a Steve Larsen mastermind yet. I am having fun partnering with a lot of my friends at the moment, but no matter what, you can always find whatever mastermind I'm doing or running or pulling off, or whatever, at SteveJLarsen.com, and just click mastermind up at the top. It's in the top header. Click mastermind up at the top, and you'll be able to go to whatever mastermind is currently going on that I'm doing. Would love to have you guys. There are different prices, different price points, different things that you can go check out, whatever it is. I just got to bring up one other thing, one other thing. As I've been preparing to leave my job, as I've been preparing to leave ClickFunnels, I've surrounded myself with a lot of coaches, just to make sure that I keep the edge. One of the pieces of feedback that I've received is actually from Mandy Keene who's actually the Inner Circle coach who's amazing and has totally changed my life in ways that I still have a hard time expressing to her. I'm very thankful for her. What she taught me and actually what Russell personally taught me also, he and I were chatting and we were talking, and we were talking about the purpose of Inner Circle and the purpose of masterminds. Mandy separately was also talking about this, also. Russell has his own mastermind for many purposes. One of them is so that he can stay up to date with all the other industries and what's going on and all those things, so he knows how funnels will work in those different areas, things like that. That totally makes sense. The money, yeah, I mean the money's nice, but that's not really the real, real reason. The real, real reason is to keep him sharp. Then he'll attend these extremely high-ticket masterminds, these 100K masterminds in order to attend. $100,000 just to go to the mastermind, with these extremely high, A players. You can imagine the kind of goodies that go into there. The only thing I'm bringing this up for is so that you understand that if you're not collaborating actively and you're not actively your ideas, the idea is already on the way to dying. In my opinion, going to masterminds and being active in them and contributing your face off, it's one of the fastest, best accelerants I have ever, ever, ever seen, or ever witness ever. I think I could say ever a few more times. Ever, ever, ever, ever... It's because of all those things, not just the personal growth of the person explodes. Obviously the business does. The connections do. Hey, I know a guy who can hook you up with X, Y, and Z over here. The connections in the room, the ideas in the room for both your offer, or the marketing message, or the litmus test of the people who are sitting in there. People who are offering their connections. People are offering things that they've taken time and money to build on their own in order to contribute because they all understand the law. The law is if you give the ideas away, yours explode and expand in ways you could have never done on your own. People know that when they're regular, habitual mastermind attenders. I invite you to come. If it's not mine, I don't care. Choose one. I would love it if you came to mine, but my gosh, choose. Just attend. Go to one. You will be shocked by what happens. If you're like, "I don't know which ones exist out there." Just start looking around or come to mine, or go to someone's. I guarantee if you go to Google and start looking around, or any guru, gosh, just start asking around, and you'll find one. Anyway, hey, so if you want to do whatever one I'm currently running or putting on or about to go to or whatever it is, I'm just going to be putting at SteveJLarsen.com, and you can click mastermind up on the top. The next one is actually here in just a few weeks, which I'm very excited about. Anyways, guys, appreciate it. Go collaborate like crazy. Share, share, share, and give your ideas away, and you'll be shocked at how much, A, they grow but B, no one steals them, because no one can truly replicate you. Anyway, talk to you later. Bye. Rank #2: SFR 267: Brad Gibb Teaches Entrepreneur Cashflow Tactics.... Brad Gibb Teaches Entrepreneur Cashflow Tactics… I’m NOT a finance expert, and I can't teach you that stuff, 'cause it's NOT my thing… I am very interested to know what happens to my cash. I’ve watched and observed a lot of other entrepreneurs who make A LOT of cash… They're successful BIG names… (Yes, even Two Comma Club Winners)... However, behind the scenes, in their personal finances, they're broke. I was like, "That sucks. I don't wanna be that way.” I want to pay as little taxes as possible but it needs to be… Legal Ethical Moral I see entrepreneurs who are NOT experts in finance, who handle their own tax strategy - often they get in trouble with the IRS and owe taxes *FOREVER*. I've seen sooo many people do that. It's hard enough to get a freakin’ business off the ground, let alone try to go navigate all that finance stuff afterwards ... so I don't even try to do that, instead, I hire experts. HOW TO MANAGE YOUR MONEY LIKE A CAPITALIST PIG I hire experts to teach me Then I hire the experts to “Just go do it for me please." Now, the guy that I listen to explicitly on my finance stuff is Brad Gibb... I have profound respect for Brad and the things that I’ve learned from him. I'm a geek and a nerd around the topic of finance and what to do with it. I want to just listen to those people who are most influential - so I don’t have to be an expert in everything - 'cause that’s impossible. I’m VERY careful who I listen to… I have a Marketing Coach - it's Russell. I've got a Systems Coach - it's Alex Charfen. I've got a Sales Coach - it's Myron Golden. I've got a finance coach - it’s Brad In fact, there's one other person, and I'll kind of keep hush-hush for right now. But it's almost 150 grand that I'll spend this year on my personal coaching. It's so funny when someone's like, "I won't spend this amount of money for you to come teach me this or be in your program, Steve." I'm like, "You are definitely not a fit then, 'cause I am willing to pay for results personally." I pay for much faster results, (as opposed to me trying to learn it all myself). HOW TO FASTTRACK YOUR RESULTS For OfferMind, I’m bringing in my coaches to teach you… So today, I thought it'd be cool to interview Brad Gibb to give you a glimpse of what you can expect. So Brad is gonna walk you through some key things that new and existing entrepreneurs can and should be doing to protect their cash. OfferMind is NOT about funnels ... it’s about offers, but it's offers in the context of... Let's learn cashflow strategies. Let's learn cashflow tactics. And funny enough, that's actually the name of Brad's company #CashFlowTactics Disclaimer! Disclaimer: I am NOT your financial person. This is NOT financial advice... ... this probably won't work for you X, Y, and Z, whatever…. *Everyone feel disclaimed?* Alright, cool! … then I'm excited to bring on Brad Gibb. WHY EVEN SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEURS ARE BROKE Brad Gibb has been one of the guys who's taught me probably the MOST about the actual business underneath the hood… How it works why I should be doing what I am Why I should stop doing some things that I am Brad has actually altered A LOT of the things that I sell and my actual personal finances and the way we run EVERYTHING. He's given structure to the numbers behind the scenes, and I just so much appreciate everything he's done. Brad is actually one of the speakers at OfferMind, which is very exciting. At OfferMInd… Day #1: I'm going to coach Day #2: All the people that I reach out and gain wisdom from. … and foremost on that list is definitely Brad Gibb. Thanks for coming to Sales Funnel Radio. Brad Gibb: Hi Steve, and I appreciate you having me on - it’s a massive honor. I love working with you… ... and yes, I'm a professional cat herder ... 'cause I try to get entrepreneurs to do all the things that they don't wanna do, but that are amazing and really transform and continue to the next level. So I'm excited to be here. Steve: Well, you're crazy good at it. And just for those people who don't really know what you do, could you just let them know? Brad: So it is kind of a catch-all, but… We're basically money coaches for the world of entrepreneurs. ...cause what we found in our journey, (which I'll probably share a little bit about that here in a second), is that what happens to an entrepreneur is… We do EVERYTHING the exact opposite of what we're told. At some point, whether it was in school, whether it was at your job, whether it was an internship, at some point, we were like: "Wait a minute. I don't fit in this world, and I'm gonna go over here and play a totally different game." And then when we're successful in that other game and we ask people: "What should I do with my taxes, and with money, and with my investing?" … and they try to put you back in the box that you just left and say, "Oh, you should do all the things that all the employees are doing with their money." ..and it ends up sabotaging what you're actually trying to do in this other box. There’s an entirely different world of finance that mimics and mirrors, and supports you as an entrepreneur. But unfortunately, just like everything, and everything is a product and everything has an intended audience. The finance world is a product, and 97% of that advice is aimed at the employee ... and so for you, 97% of financial advice is either dangerous, misleading or just outright wrong, 'cause you play a different game. So what we teach you is the game that you're actually in from a money-taxes structure, and even just the mindset, the way we think and feel about money... That's what we do. ENTREPRENEUR FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT- AKA: HOW NOT TO LOOSE MONEY Steve: It's a HUGE deal. I remember the first time I made 50 grand from this thing that I was doing. I was so excited about it. I was like, "This is great." It was one of my first big wins. And I remember paying 46% taxes on that thing! I was like, "What? This is ridiculous!" I got so mad. I was like, "Uncle Sam... " ...it wasn't a six-figure check yet, but it was my first big taste of like: "Man, I gotta learn this or I will literally not keep much of what I actually make after business costs and everything else. It's not gonna be much." And I started diving more deeply and realized that there really truly are secrets that are ethical, that are moral, that you can use to actually keep money and set up a real good life for yourself. WHAT’S YOUR FINANCIAL IQ? Brad: We have two goals #1: We wanna increase your financial IQ ... 'cause no one is gonna come save you. No one's gonna care more about your money than you do. And ultimately, while we're raising our marketing IQ, we're raising our sales IQ, we're raising our system IQ… Rarely does the entrepreneur work to really raise their money and finance IQ. Our job is to make sure that's levelling up with the rate of growth you're experiencing in all other areas, right, Steve? And you and I have talked about this a bunch like, "Business is like the ultimate personal development tool." … but we don't do that on the money side, so we upgrade your financial IQ. The goal is to empower you in the conversation of money. So as you enter conversations with… Accountants Attorneys Investments i.e.; When you ask: “What do I do with this capital?” … you start to make decisions that have lots of dollar signs next to them; you're empowered in how to make those decisions. That's our ultimate outcome for the entrepreneur. Steve: That's massive stuff. How did you get started on this? ‘Cause like you said, "Some entrepreneurs are kinda like herding cats." So I'm sure there's like a love-hate relationship with it? Brad: Absolutely. So I'm a super nerd, and I love my spreadsheets. I would just sit with them all day long if I could. But if we rewind the clock, I always liked money, I always liked those conversations. And so, being the super nerd that I am, (following the traditional advice that I was told), I thought, "If one degree was good, four would be better." So… I got an undergrad in accounting. Then I got a Masters in accounting. I was a guy that went to summer school not to graduate faster, but so I could do all this other stuff that I wanna do. I got a degree in economics A degree in statistics. So I was like, "I got everything I need." Steve: That's so awesome. Brad: And I loved it. I was still supposed to be getting a Ph.D. in accounting ... that's how much I loved numbers and studying. But luckily, something deep down inside me told me that it just wasn't gonna be a good fit, so upon graduation, I joined Goldman Sachs, (don't hold that against me). It’s the evil empire, and I understand that. I was in the belly of the beast. But the amazing part about that experience was that I was downtown New York in 2008. And for those who don't understand what went down in 2008… The world almost exploded, and everything was melting down, and I had a front-row seat to it. And it really was like the beginning of my awareness of ‘there are things that I learned, but the application and what's going on in the real world is like completely different.’ And that's where, after a very short time, (seeing what was going on), it was one of those things where I had a Jerry Maguire moment of like: "I can't be here. I can't be part of this. I gotta get out." So, I leveraged some contacts that I had there and started a consulting firm. ENTREPRENEUR CASH FLOW TACTICS So this is where I realized… #1: Not only was there a lot of stuff going on in money and finance in Wall Street that I wasn't okay with #2: The bigger story there was that I thought that having a good job, having a good education, and having the resume of Goldman Sachs was gonna be what brought me security… ...but that was the wake-up call, "Wait a minute, there is no such thing as security." The Lehman Brothers disappeared overnight, and it just as easily could have been Goldman Sachs. It was Lehman/ Goldman Sachs? Lehman/ Goldman Sachs?... and it happened to be Lehman that went out. I was like, "Wait a minute, this isn't what I thought it was gonna be." So I took the leap to be an entrepreneur and said, “That's where my security is gonna come from…” I'm not gonna have a boss, I'm gonna be the boss. So I made that transition, and things went really well. We grew an audit consulting firm, where we actually helped companies go public - we were on the interface of the SEC and investors. We're putting all this together to help companies go public. We've taken about two-dozen companies public during that time, then I had my second realization which really led into what I do now was… I was making good money, on my resume, everything was exactly... I was a partner of the firm. We were growing. We were hitting, making more money than I ever imagined. But I still remember vividly… MY 2ND WAKEUP CALL I was sitting in my desk, looking outside. It was pitch black, it was two in the morning and I was finishing up client work for the deadline that was coming up the next day…. And as I finished it up, I kind of took a breath and thought for a minute and realized that it had been multiple days in a row. This was the third day in a row that I'd been in my chair at two in the morning, finishing up client work. I had left so early the morning before that I didn't get to see my kids. I hadn't seen my wife in three days. I sat back, and I was like, "Wait a minute, what is all this about? My business is now totally and utterly controlling me." Steve: Wow. Brad: And that was kind of the second part of freedom… I was like, "Wait a minute, yes, I need the control and benefit that comes from being an entrepreneur, but I've gotta figure how to also be free from my business." And so, that started a personal journey for me into… Business finance is NOT personal finance. The economics that Wall Street uses is NOT what is going to put dollars and cents (from an investing and a tax standpoint) in my own pocket. So that started the path to, “How do I get free and independent from my business as fast as I possibly can?” So that's why I started bringing those two worlds together and put the entrepreneur first. Because I have a business for me, first and foremost… I need to make money and I need to have the life that I want. And so I lined all that knowledge up against me as the entrepreneur and asked, “How do I structure everything to benefit me and put me where I need to be?” And that process, obviously, enabled me to eventually walk away from that firm and start Cashflow Tactics, which is what we do now… It enabled me to make all of those lifestyle decisions that allowed me to run and be involved in an amazing business, that gives me an arm's length sort of freedom to balance that… ... if that makes any sense? Steve: No, it totally does. And it's an awesome story going from... You have these amazing talents, man. This is so incredible, you're one of the smartest people I know. And it's super fun to listen to you. You're a source of gigantic financial education for my wife and I, and my business and all these decisions we make. It's amazing how eye-opening it's been. I look at the world differently, my decisions as a marketer are actually influenced by what you and I have chatted about. The topic of funnels in marketing is giant, but it's like the same five things I see EVERYONE screwing up. What are the things that you see EVERY entrepreneur, big or small, where you're like, "I just know this is gonna be jacked up, 'cause it almost always is..." You know what I mean? Brad: That is such an awesome question... because you're right! I've asked you for funnel advice, and you've given me, like, "Brad, really? Like, come on, it's right there. Don't you see?" But, yeah, so a couple of things for entrepreneurs, (and it's funny because I'm thinking about our conversations), and we've had these with you, so don't feel bad, everybody has them… WHERE ARE YOU SCREWING UP? One of the big ones is: Revenue and Profit are not the same thing. Cash and profit are not the same thing. You're gonna have profit and NOT end up with cash. So understanding how to take the numbers that we're running our business with and make them real and tangible - so there are conversations around that. Understanding, as I said, the difference between revenue and profit, and how to understand what drives both of those. And then understanding… What is profit? What is cash? And that's really what then opens up a conversation of... How do we pay the least amount we can in taxes yet still have money in our bank account? .. ‘fortunately, MOST tax advice just requires you to drain your bank account and be poor - which isn't what we want! So separating cash and profit is a powerful piece to it. And then just understanding dashboards - understanding what are the levers that my business is running. So that's kind of one area of a lot of questions, so that when an entrepreneur comes in and says, "Hey, can you help me set up my structures or help me invest?" “Yeah, after we dive in, and we help you understand where you're numbers really are.” ‘Cause ultimately... I can't help you unless you're really clear on what your business numbers are. So that's definitely where we get in and clean everybody up initially is: Revenue and Profit Profit and Cash A Set of Dashboards. Steve: That's awesome. Brad: That's one major element. A second one is… There’s a huge difference between being an actual investor and being a gambler or a speculator. … and we're never really told the difference. How do we actually understand what investing means and not what we've been taught? i.e, Not what most employees are taught to do. So exiting that world of employee over to entrepreneur, and understanding that what investing entails, is NOT what you think. So yeah, the second major one would be that. And there's a third one, (it'll come back to me in a second), but those are two major conversations we have. Steve: It's funny, man, because people will say that to me about ads, " There's a huge gamble on ads." I'm like, “If you've done all the pieces we've said, there's not... It's not a gamble. You're playing the game. This is what's supposed to happen.” It's really interesting. THE ICEBERG PRINCIPLE Brad: And then, I guess the last one I kinda talk about is, ‘The Iceberg Principle.’ Everybody wants to look at that part we can see that sits above the water, but really, 90% of investing and wealth creation is what's below the surface. I want you to upgrade your question, don't ask, “What are the rich doing with their money?” Instead ask, “What did the rich do to get their money in the first place?” That's the question that we wanna answer, right? I don't care what Bill Gates does with his money today - when I have a billion dollars, maybe I'll ask those questions, but I don't. “What did he do in my stage to get there?” Those are the questions that we look at and really answer. And so, it's a question of: Do I understand what's going on? How do I keep the money I'm making? Keep the money that you’re making first, and then understanding what your investing looks like. Those are the main conversations we have. Steve: I love that, yeah, 'cause we're all on different stages as entrepreneurs… But I think too many times, we'll look at other people and say, "Well, so-and-so did this." But "Yeah, but so-and-so is running a billion-dollar enterprise." Brad: Yeah, “Bill Gates just did this or that.” Who cares? You're NOT a billion-dollar endowment fund, so what do you care? Steve: Yeah, who cares? “…that's where they're putting their cash,” for a totally different reason! Or “...that's where they're getting their traffic,” and like, "Ugh! Anyway, they're selling Beanie Babies.” Brad: But it's so crazy because truth is truth is truth, right? A lot of the same mistakes people are making on the marketing side that you're dealing with every day, it's the same set of underlying assumptions of, "Well, that guy's doing it, so I should too." Well, *NO* We're NOT asking the right question - that's so much of the problem. Would you agree with that? QUESTIONS LEAD TO REVELATIONS If we correctly identify the problem and then ask the right questions, the solution becomes easy. … that’s so much of what we spend time doing on the money side, diagnosing the same things you are, just a different outcome. Steve: Yeah! I find it's harder to actually figure out what question to be pursuing rather than actually find the answer. This is really interesting. Okay, so I sat next to ‘The Man’ for a while and I would watch him. We'd set up all these funnels, all this marketing, and put all these pieces together, and I’d watch how they would treat the cash. I wasn't sitting around, going, "Oh, what are they saying?" But, it was easy to observe it. There was a pre-created strategy that they had. The cash would come in. It would break even all these ad costs. They'd upsell people. They’d take profit for the business Finally, they’d go in and fill their pockets. That was a really cool front-row seat to a lot of that. PROFIT OR REVENUE? Let's take an entrepreneur who is around the million-dollar range. What are some of the things they could do with their cash? Brad: It's kind of funny, you picked the million-dollar range because what we harp on to so many entrepreneurs (it’s not a hard and fast rule because profit is different than revenue, right?)... So if they’re making enough profit there are levers we can pull, but certainly, up to a quarter-million, my answer is… Just keep figuring out how to make more money. Steve: Let's just make money. Brad: It's too easy to make a quarter-million dollars today. I know that might blow some people's minds that are reading, but it really, it's too easy to make a quarter million to a million… So if you're NOT doing that, stop trying to do anything after that, (like, investing in vehicles with the stock), and just take all your money and figure out how to make that kind of money. Steve: Just bring more cash. Brad: Just bring more in, right! Don't fall for the $10,000, $15,000 packages of ‘protectionals’ because you have NOTHING to protect. You don't have enough money to invest to make a difference. So let's just start there and just say you need to be making, (depending on your business and profitability model), you need to be making a quarter million dollars or more. Fair? Steve: Yeah. Brad: Cool. Sorry, what was the question you were asking? Steve: And then after that point though, what would you suggest maybe someone start doing? THE MOST EXPENSIVE MONEY YOU HAVE Brad: So the first thing to do, ( I usually keep a dollar bill here for emphasis, and my kids must have taken it…) Steve: Still on your board? Brad: Yeah. Right here. That $20 bill, 'cause I use this for other things, but this $20 bill... The $20 bill that you have in your wallet is the MOST expensive money you have in your life... because what did it take to get this 20 bucks? You had to… Launch funnels and promote Have ad spend Break-even Upsell to actually make a profit Pay all your vendors Pay all your employees Write Uncle Sam his check ... and then after all of that happened: Your wife wanted to spend money You had to eat Put gas in your car Make your mortgage payment Live your lifestyle … and *then* there was money left over to be in your wallet, right? Once entrepreneurs get good at making money, it's easier for them to just say, "Oh, if I want something, I'm gonna make MORE money..." ...instead of trying to keep a little bit of the MOST expensive money. If I can help you keep an extra dollar, for most entrepreneurs, that's five to 10 on the top line. Steve: Interesting. Brad: So it's getting a focus of, “How do I keep the money that's coming in? “ And so it's this conversation, (and Stephen, you and I had it)... The business becomes this snot-nosed, whiny baby that just cries until it gets what it wants. Agree? Steve: Yeah. Brad: And we have to do a lot of work of separating the entrepreneur from their business- so that they can discipline their business and make it give them what they want. So it's this bridge between understanding how your business needs to operate and how you're gonna operate independent of that. So it's teaching a blend of the idea of this metric of … How do we then reverse engineer the profitability and the cash that we want in the business owner's pocket? … and until we think through that process, we're always going to be robbing Peter to pay Paul. And I think entrepreneurs have been through this... Like, they'll go sacrificing, sacrificing... making sure the business grows. Going without, going without, going without... until it just teeter-totters and just spend a bunch on the other side. And every time they're spending, they're worried about, "Is there gonna be enough for my business?" And then every time they're actually re-investing in their business, they're like, "This sucks 'cause I don't know when I'm ever gonna benefit from this?" However, in reality, it's simple, it's a process. There's a formula to understand how to live our life and build our own wealth, while not taking from or at the detriment of our business growth. ...and how we balance those two things? Brad: 'Cause, unfortunately, too many business owners get lazy once they start making money… When I didn't have any money, I had to put my thinking cap on and be an entrepreneur and just figure out how to do it anyway. Does NOT having money ever stop you from what you want to do? Steve: No, I figure it out. Brad: No, we just figure it out, right? Steve: Yeah. Brad: But once you have money, then you let the dollar solve the problem instead. You're just like, "Oh, I can't do that in my personal life because my business needs the money." Well, how is that...? That's just lazy rather than saying, "What if I didn't have the money, how would I solve it?" Or, "I'm paying myself this much 'cause I'm demanding it." And then, “How do I create that problem, so I can solve it? Rather than just papering over it with, "There's money in the bank account so I'm gonna spend it." Does that make sense? Steve: It does, and that's one of the major things I learned from you. Basically, I had to define the relationship with me and the business. Not just the CEO hat, (which is what I studied and was focusing on like crazy and learning from guys like Alex Charfen)... ...you took it to this other level. It's like, “Now, let's talk about you as just a human, and your family needs compared to the actual business needs.” It was nuts to see how that worked and the security that came from that was astounding. Brad: And so everybody says like, "What can I do?” Or... “How do I…? " That comes after we set up what we call 'A Game Plan.' Start figuring out… Where you are? Where do you want to go? ...and then, depending on that gap, we set in the things that we need in order to get you there. That's really the most impactful thing I could ever do for somebody is connect these conversations. The tools and tactics become a lot easier once we have a game plan. The most impactful thing I could ever do for somebody is to give them a very clear step-by-step roadmap… ...'cause we're all entrepreneurs, once we have a target, it's just a matter of time, we're gonna hit it. Steve: I'm gonna do it. Brad: It's setting up the right target. Steve: Yeah. That makes sense... and then having clarity in where you are in relations of the target, yeah. GETTING HONEST… Brad: Yes, and as embarrassing as that sometimes feels, like that's just being honest with: Where things are at? How do we feel? What frustrates us? Like there was a lot, (not just you), but every entrepreneur I’ve worked with - you really unpack that. Like… How are we feeling? What's causing us to not feel secure? There's a lot to unpack there, and then... we can line up the road map and go from there. Steve: Interesting. You can obviously see that Brad is just this fountain of knowledge and it's so incredible, and it's super exciting to have you on here. I asked Brad to come speak at OfferMind. Day one is my offer creation formula…’cause #OfferMind. But you all know, I mean I’m wearing the Capitalist Pig Shirt, right now… It's for the purpose of profit, and it's for the purpose of doing things in your life that you want to do in relation to these structures that Brad teaches. And so what I asked Brad to come in and teach more about personal cash flow tactics. His actual business is called Cashflow Tactics. Brad: I think it's fun. We hit it on the head. We did it. Steve: Yeah. Super fun. Could you just give a little brief, just really briefly, what are you gonna talk about at OfferMind? SHAMELESS OFFERMIND PLUG FROM BRAD Brad: Yeah, can I plug your event first? Steve: Yeah. Brad: Okay. Guys, I've known Stephen for four years, I've been in Russell's Inner Circle. We met there, and I think we both had this little rush of like, "Oh, that's Stephen. I can't go talk to Stephen." And Stephen was like, "That's Brad and Ryan. I can't... Steve: "It's Brad. I can't go talk to Brad... " Brad: For two years, it was like that… We got over that… 😂 But what I struggled with, (even being surrounded by 100 of the top marketers in this space for the last four years), what we struggled with (for literally two and a half to three years), was our offer. I had all the frontend tactics, the strategies, I had all of this, but I could not figure out how to talk to the market… Once I got something in front of me, I could melt your face, I could take you down a rabbit hole. But when somebody said, "Well, how do I work with you?" That's when I was like, "I don't really know, I need to get in and... " And that held us back for so long, but literally, this was what happened… We spent some time with Stephen, we spent some time with a couple of other people, and it was like flipping a light switch. We figured out what our offer was, how to put it together, how to communicate it to the marketplace in April. We took everything down. Took two months to put it together, launched it in June. From June to February, we hit the 10X Award. Steve: Yeah, you did $10 million. Brad: … in whatever that is, eight months! Because we got the offer right. I had all the knowledge, I had stored it all up. We had all the delivery. We had the team. We had EVERYTHING but just couldn’t get any traction. We get asked to speak in a lot of places, (as you might imagine), and we have to say ‘NO’, ('cause I've got five kids that I really like spending time with, and so I'm gonna spend a lot of time with them)... The one event I said, "Absolutely, I'll speak at” is OfferMind... ...because of just how powerful it is to conceive around the offer, for us, it linked from the offer, it linked forward into the marketplace, and it linked backwards into how we grow our company- that was essential. Steve: Dude, that's awesome, thank you. Brad: If anyone's on the edge and thinks they might need it - that's where we were stuck, and it totally transformed. I was wishing, “Somebody should run events and teach me how to do this,” and then… BOOM! Steve: It's awesome, man. Brad: What are we gonna talk about? We are gonna talk about... So, on day one you're gonna hear from Stephen and then you're gonna hear from these other coaches about all of these models to have a business where you can create cash flow, right? Whether it's marketing, whether it's speaking, whether it's whatever... those models are gonna bring cash into the business. What I'm gonna talk about is… What do you do, personally as an entrepreneur, to take that cash and make it work for you forevermore to bring cash into your life? *Personal* Okay? And kind of an idea behind this,... just think about this... THE WOLF YOU CAN’T SEE... There's this concept that I like to call "entrepreneurs we’re hunted by a wolf you can't see." No matter how much money we can make from stage. No matter how much money we can make on our webinar, No matter how much money we have coming in the door ... our business has what we call a half-life, and if we stopped paying attention to it, it will slowly degrade. No matter how good we are, it's just, it has to be actively maintained and that's the pressure… *That's the wolf that's hunting you* Unless you get up and push forward and innovate and ensure that things move forward, you know that no matter how good the cash flow models we got on the frontend, they're dependent upon *YOU*. What we try to do is push that wolf off by creating cash flow models that do not rely on you, as the business owner anymore. In my case, I have well over $10,000 a month that comes in, 100% independent of my business, before I wake up in the morning… We call it leveraged income. Because... “Psst…. There's no such thing as passive income, it doesn't exist. It's a myth. It's a lie.” We call it leveraged income in that it does NOT rely on you, or your asset of you as the business owner, you as the attractive character and the center of your business. Right? Steve: Yeah. Brad: And if we can bridge that... Our whole model is… No matter where you start, we can get you there in 10 years or less. So we're gonna marry that cash flow model up to the ones you're gonna learn on day one and parts of day two - so that we have the outcome that we all really want in business… ... which is true financial security. And that ONLY comes about if we can have ourselves removed from that equation. Our business funds this model and then now we're NOT necessary. That's where true financial freedom comes from. That's the model we're gonna share at OfferMind. Steve: Yeah, yeah. So you're saying it's pretty awesome. I mean, it's life-changing, man. And the stuff that I've learned from you guys is just incredible, and, I'm already kind of a geek like that. You know we all geek on one thing, but we follow rabbits everywhere. I listen to tons of finance books, I love that stuff. Financial Econ was the major I almost went into. And then it was like... It was like 50 years of knowledge in this little contrite, three-hour thing you guys took me through - it’s been amazing. So guys, come to OfferMind and come learn the stuff from Brad. Yeah. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to do this, man. Brad: Hey, thanks for having me. Like I said, come to OfferMind for what Stephen teaches and then stay for what I'm gonna teach, 'cause it's gonna be awesome. But really it's ‘Make money, first and foremost,’ right? Come, learn. It's just too easy in today's day and age to be a Capitalist Pig and unashamedly make a bunch of money. And then, as I said, Our mission is to help you keep MORE of that money and grow it to provide that ultimate financial security. Steve: You know, it's interesting, moving down this road, (and I know you've seen tons of it way more than I have), just watching a lot of friends and peers make this money… They do all the studying They figure out how to make cash, (which is awesome, its own skillset). ...and then they struggle financially for like every single year for the rest of their life. And you're like, "What are they doing versus the people that... " It's crazy. THE SKILL EVEN TWO COMMA CLUB WINNERS STRUGGLE WITH... Brad: So, you triggered it, when you asked me, "What's one of the main things that you touch on... The myth that everybody... " The one was left and that just came back to me was… The skillset required to make money is fundamentally different than the skill set required to keep it and grow it. Steve: Yeah. Brad: It's almost the opposite skillset. And what most people don't know is most Two Comma Club award winners, most people with these big businesses, they're really struggling on the personal side of it. They've got the skillset to bring the cash in, but it’s NOT a skillset that translates… But it's learnable. And if you're working with somebody who is an actual entrepreneur, who actually does it in their own life, (like we do), it can be pretty simple. You hit that nail, I'm glad you brought that back up that because I forgot. They are two fundamentally different skill sets. So, get the skillset to make it and then we need the skillset to keep it and grow it. Steve: Totally, yeah. And with that plan that you've helped me create, I have confidence in what I go make 'cause I know there's a plan for it. ... it's like it reignited the fuel. 'Cause after a while, I was like, "Alright, let's launch something again? Let's send more ads?" I was like, "Why?" It's like, "Oh, this other piece that you brought in." I was like, "Oh okay, that makes sense." Brad: And we've actually worked with a lot of entrepreneurs that have intentionally, or even subconsciously, stopped growing their business because of all the uncertainty on the other side... It was self-sabotaging. They didn't want, or couldn't grow, because of that bottleneck and that breaking point. There are so many people that they make the money so fast, they've not built those other skill sets. It's kind of like the NBA player syndrome, where you get this huge signing bonus and you make money for a little while… However, 9 out of 10 NBA players are broke when they leave...'cause they don't have that set, They spent the money so quickly. And it's that same idea that we're just trying to teach and lay those foundations so that your financial IQ rises with your business acumen. It just allows us to keep and grow what we're making. Two Comma Club awards are fun and exciting, and revenue is super sexy…. But guys, really, the thing that makes you sleep at night and the thing that really brings that level of certainty is, "Am I able to keep it?" Steve: And you guys notice, I've had actually several, about four or five people in the last little bit, reach out and say, "Stephen you look physically different." I'm more rested, my friends. It's A LOT of the stuff you're talking about. And the answer is not a dumb Dave Ramsey, “Live on beans 'til you die,” thing. That’s NOT at all what Brad's talking about here. Brad: How many times did I tell you, “Stephen, stop doing those things. Stop trying to be good at investing, cause your skillsets here"? Steve: Yeah. Brad: Yeah. Steve: Yeah, it was huge. And by the way, it's not about living on carrots. It's totally the opposite actually, there's just a plan for it, and it was so like, "Ah, a breath of fresh air." Anyway, it's super fun. Brad: Very good. Steve: Well, hey, you guys, thank you so much. And Brad, where can people follow you? Brad: So, actually the best place cause obviously on a podcast, we skip around and it skips over the surface of all these concepts. I gotta bring up all these different ways to think… Where we start breaking that down, is actually on YouTube. That's probably the best place where we give 5-15 minute clips of starting to go into detail of what these concepts are. So if you wanna start poking around and see, "What the heck is he talking about when he says 'profit is not cash'?" Go to our YouTube channel and start hunting, digging around and geeking out there. I promise it's NOT overwhelming and it's totally consumable, 'cause I studied from guys like Stephen, who helps me break down my spreadsheets into real examples that are understandable. That really is the best place is to follow us there. And then we're on the main things like Twitter, Facebook, Insta or whatever... I don't do a lot of the social media stuff, but if you want more information, start on YouTube, and then you can always follow what we put out on Instagram and Facebook. Steve: That's awesome. Hey guys, go check out Cashflow Tactics on YouTube and go to offermind.com and grab your ticket. Brad: Do that first and then come to YouTube. So go to OfferMind and get your tickets, then come to my YouTube channel and geek out about how to keep all the money Stephen is gonna teach you how to make here in a couple of months. Steve: Yeah. That's awesome. Brad, thanks so much for taking the time. Brad: Thanks, dude. BOOM! If you're just starting out you're probably studying a lot. That's good. You're probably geeking out on all the strategies, right? That's also good. But the hardest part is figuring out what the market wants to buy and how you should sell it to them, right? That's what I struggled with for a while until I learned the formula. So I created a special Mastermind called an OfferMind to get you on track with the right offer, and more importantly the right sales script to get it off the ground and sell it. Wanna come? There are small groups on purpose, so I can answer your direct questions in person for two straight days. You can hold your spot by going to OfferMind.com. Again, that's OfferMind.com.

Rank #1: 103: Writing MLM Ads.... I wanna teach you a little bit more about HOW to create ads or write video scripts for products you’re promoting in the MLM space…. About a week ago, towards the end of the day, I knew that we were gonna go do a bunch of filming the next day for some funnels that you guys will see us launching soon… In fact, I'll tell you about one of them today. I thought, “What could we do to make a video that's off the top crazy?” Whether you're brand new in MLM, network marketing, or direct sales, whatever you choose to call it… We're all basically commission-based salesmen. Whatever it is that you are going to choose to sell… Understand that as a marketer you are a NOISEMAKER. Some people have gotten mad when I've said in the past… They're like, "Hey, look, there's enough noise out there all ready in this planet, Steve, and I don't need to be making more of it." I'm not saying make noise for noise's sake… CREATING SUCCESS IN MLM I have a bunch of quotes on the ceiling in my office… I ran out of wall space because I’ve got whiteboards everywhere… So I started putting my quotes on the ceiling. There is a quote up there that says, "When you open your mouth, you are either contributing and adding value or you're just making distraction and noise and nonsense" What I'm saying is, by making noise, do things of value. That's what we ask ourselves frequently here in this office. There's several others that work here now… And we will all sit down and start thinking, “What could we do that would cause positive good noise that brings attention over to what we're doing?” It's been great and it's been a ton of fun doing that. We come up with some pretty aggressive things sometimes. I live in Boise, Idaho, right next to ClickFunnels. We had this idea to go 30 minutes away to this place where we could SHOOT. I shot a lot of guns growing up and I was in the Army for about four and a half years… I just love guns. Guns are fun when you're safe with them. I was like, "Let's do something with guns. Let's do something that's big and aggressive," We decided to go to these places and start shooting some guns and we brought our videographer with us so we could start shooting. Shooting with a camera but also shooting with a gun… I wrote this script… The purpose of the script is to go in and ruffle some feathers around a lot of false beliefs in the MLM space. I wanna read the script to you real quick so you can see how I wrote this… ADS FOR SUCCESS IN MLM With any script that I write EVER… Whether it's for the Secret MLM Hacks Webinar (if you guys wanna see that, go to secretmlmhacks.com) or anything really... I always step back and think about my target audience. Whether you're: Selling product Trying to recruit Building or selling the products … Think about the mainstream things. What are the mainstream things that my dream customer believes right now and I KNOW are WRONG? Then what I do is become the OPPOSITE of that in the ad or in the script. It's one of the EASIEST ways to get a lot of attention. Let's say that you were gonna go speak to a bunch of bodybuilders and you're selling them a CrossFit program… What are all the beliefs that a bodybuilder has that you know are WRONG that could be hurting them? I'm gonna bring that out in the ad and become the exact OPPOSITE of it. I am the ANTI of that thing… Openly, loud and proud! You'll see what I mean as we go here… So what we did was… Bought a shotgun And we bought Tannerite … If you don't know what this stuff is, it's an explosive (it's legal). We got it from Dick's Sporting Goods. I went to a party store and I got tons of stuff… A full-board cutout of Superman Hans Solo A hundred-pound, old-school TV that we've just had sitting on the side of our house forever… this thing's sooo heavy A really old Mac computer Lots of spray paint We drove out to this place (it was a super nice day) and we went out to this clearing… THIS is the script that I wrote… NETWORK MARKETING ADS SCRIPT It starts out with me standing in a field… "Is success in MLM even possible today?" What's cool about starting anything with a question is that questions hijack brains. If I was to ask you a question like, "Are you really actually gonna be successful in your MLM right now?" By default, you can't NOT think about that. That's WHY questions are such a powerful opener. "Is success in MLM even possible today?" And then it backs out and I'm standing in this field with a TV… "Well, let me ask you this..." It's kind of like those Geico commercials… "Could Geico really save you 15% on car insurance?” "Could a woodchuck chuck wood?" And then it goes to a woodchuck throwing wood… There's A LOT of fast cuts in this… "Is success in MLM even possible today? Well, let me ask you this… Will this old-school, hundred-pound TV explode with only four pounds of Tannerite under it?" Then it zooms away to us shooting the Tannerite and the TV flips through the air and explodes… It's really awesome! The shockwave was huge! "I'm Steve. MLM is stuck in the '90s. Hello, the internet is here!" And it's all these cool little cuts back and forth. "MLM is loaded with old-school methods like the three-way phone calls... " If this offends you.. Don't get offended. Watch what I'm doing. IS SUCCESS IN MLM EVEN POSSIBLE? We zoom to me standing in a Walmart parking lot and I take a step up to Colton (the other owner of Secret MLM Hacks) and go… "Hey, this guy's gonna make us a bunch of money. I don't know how, but we gotta three-way call now.” He picks up a book and slaps me and I have a delayed reaction. I'm going hyperbole, slapstick, kind of over the top because I know that this is gonna be a touchy… I don't do three-way phone calls. I'm not saying that you CAN’T… I'm just saying I didn't wanna do that so I built my own system that recruits for me. In the last four days we've had NINE people join… Who I haven't spoken to but they're getting trained at this insane level because I automated the training. I'm going through three things, three methods, that I KNOW MLM believes will cause success that I don't really agree with… I said, "It's filled with old-school methods like the three-way phone call, making a huge list of uninterested family and friends and bugging them." Then it goes to me on a whiteboard writing down: Total Facebook friends = 2,047 Total MLM leads = 2,047 Then I look up to the side and go, "What island should I buy?" We've all been there and that's why this is really aggressive. MARKETING FOR SUCCESS IN MLM Then I said, "And finally, fake home parties." And we set up a home party and people are wearing party hats. They're sitting there and I stand up at the front… Guys, this is REALLY controversial. If it's pissing you off, you need to watch what I'm doing and model in your MLM. I'm not trying to be offensive for offensive's sake… If someone gets offended by it, that's not the goal. I'm not trying to do that… I'm taking the mainstream beliefs, the methods that people believe are required in MLM and becoming the OPPOSITE of those because I don't agree with them. So if you're thinking about your… MLM Product Opportunity If you don't know who your target dream customer is… That's why you're having a hard time selling in the first place. Whatever your dream target customer believes will give them success, and you're like, "No, no, no, no, no.” "You’re taking that supplement." "You have that insurance plan.” "You having that retirement thing." Have you told them that that's not true at all in a very memorable way? This is what I'm doing with this… I said, "Finally, the fake home party." We set up a home party and I'm going waaaay over the top in the video. It's hyperbole but it's to cause a point. "Hey, everyone, thanks so much for coming to my home party. I can't wait for you to buy my stuff and fuel my retirement and future because truly I never learned how to sell." Then my buddy, Colton, stands up and he goes, "This party sucks!" He slams something on the ground and then reaches out with the book again and slaps my face, with a delayed reaction. THE MLM FUNNEL AND NETWORK MARKETING SECRETS This is spicy, and it's meant to be edgy… That's partly my personality. If you don't want to be that way, you don't HAVE to. This is just something that I did. "This party sucks!"... Then it zooms to me in a studio. It's all nice, and I'm standing in front of a camera. I go, "Hey, look, I'm serious but joking. The point is us full time internet marketers are playing the MLM game completely different than what you've been taught by your upline," I said, "To be clear, YES, I am building actively in an MLM.” I HATE it when I find out someone that I'm learning from is NOT actually doing the thing that they're teaching. There are tons of MLM gurus that are out there like that. Now it zooms back to me with a shotgun and I'm walking… “Yes, to be clear," and I load it "I am building an MLM actively right now. I'm a participant in this place," "YES, I'm using the internet to grow my MLM." I look over and point at this old-school Mac. We sprayed “MLM + WEB?” with question marks all over it. "You can do that in MLM? YEAH YOU CAN! I'm doing it right now." Then I blow a shotgun round through the center of the computer. It was really fun. And then it was zooms out to me looking at it… A little bit further away Colton's loading a big rifle. MYTHS ABOUT SUCCESS IN MLM I turned around to the camera and I say, "So the whole myth that you can't use the internet to grow what you're doing..." Then as we both look over and Colton lines up, and goes, BOOM! We shot five pounds of explosives under this TV, and it went flipping through the air and I said, "Myth busted, that's crap." I'm taking ALL the things that I've seen people believe about MLM constraints… I don't talk about my MLM on here… I don't name it. That’s one of the reasons I can do it. A lot of you come join my downline because of how many tools we have for you afterwards. You learn waaaay more about that in Secret MLM Hacks. I tell them, "Guys, how I'm using Facebook funnels and the internet that might surprise you… Now I personally sell programs, and books, teaching my own MLM methods. I honestly just wanna make a cool video to tell you about another fascinating book that'll help you make the transition into modern MLM." What I'm doing in the video is I'm promoting Russell's new book called "Network Marketing Secrets". I tell them, "Go to The MLM Funnel, themlmfunnel.com and get your copy from me". "Get your copy of 'Network Marketing Secrets' and there's a bunch of cool bonuses there. It's called 'Network Marketing Secrets' by Russell Brunson." "While old-school MLM tactics CAN work..." Now we're zooming back to a rock face and I have a huge cardboard cutout of Superman and Hans Solo… I said, "It's like putting Hans Solo against Superman. Hans Solo was cool 30 years ago… CGI is here!" HOW TO HAVE SUCCESS IN MLM "We do MLM differently. ‘Network Marketing Secrets' and the programs that I share with you will teach you HOW we're really doing MLM online, automated, without talking to anybody." “I'm not removing the person from this business. I have other MLM automated programs teaching HOW to do this and I'm hoping you buy this book and make fat stacks of cash and use some of it to come buy my programs in the future." How evil of a plan is that? And maybe you join my team… "Here's what you're gonna get…” Then I go through and I give them a really cool offer. I'm giving them one of my recruiting funnels if they buy the book through my link. Same offer's for you, by the way. If you guys go to themlmfunnel.com it will take you over there and you'll see what the offer is. I recorded myself building a recruiting funnel in front of a live audience. They get that video course so they can see how I built all the pages… Then they get the actual funnel itself. If you don't have a ClickFunnels account, it will give you a two-week FREE trial when you click on the link. I give them the program that I train my downline with once they join me. That way they can see HOW I do it so they can go do it in their own MLM. SUCCESS IN MLM IS NOT CUTE I don't wanna marry my downline… The point for me is to build an ASSET… Not a job. Therefore I should automate certain things that I do all the time. If I'm doing them all the time, it's the same thing over and over again. Why on Earth would I not put a system in place to automate that? I give them a discount ticket to OfferMind, which I'll invite you guys to come to. It's September 2nd and 3rd. Russell Brunson will be keynoting at that. I teach you how to make a sexy offer so that you actually can outvalue your upline and downline. I said, "Sure, you may love the cute way your MLM has taught you to recruit and sell…” Then I pick up this panda (it's a pinata) and I say, "You're right. Things that are comfortable can be really cute. But what has cute and comfy actually done for you?" And then it's me slamming the thing on the ground and ripping the head off of it. It's a really aggressive ad. Go to themlmfunnel.com, because that’s where this video is going to live. You can go watch the whole thing. "But, Steve, if it's not broke, don't fix it." "No one's buying hundred-pound TVs anymore. MLM has changed." There's an analogy that I gave… You probably saw it in this past four-part series that we just did. It's not that the way MLM teaches you traditionally CAN’T work… It's like putting a Prius against a race car down a drag strip. It's so much faster. I can auto-pitch people like crazy… Far more than I ever had time to do. HOW THE BIG GUYS HAVE SUCCESS IN MLM We're well over 1,500 people asking to join my downline. I didn't recruit them all because I chop a lot of of them out because it's a REAL application. But 1,500 people have asked to join my downline in the last year and a half. Learn this stuff. That's why I do this show. I know it's controversial and I know it pisses people off… Usually it's because they don't know HOW to do it and then I freak them out. Whatever, it works. We're doing it. Tons of people are. I've had multiple people recruit several hundred in a month. Just in the Secret MLM Hacks program, not my downline alone. Internet is part of the MLM future. It's the way the huge guys have already been playing it. They're just not teaching you that. Then we shoot back over to me… Colton and Austin are standing on a rock with confetti rockets. I say, "So, congrats." BOOM, and we all shoot the confetti out. "Throw a party because you're about to learn how the big MLMers are actually playing the game." Then I say, "Click the link below "o get all those cool bonuses and get the book and we'll ship it on out to you." I just wanted to break that down so you guys can see HOW we do that. If you wanna see the actually final video go to themlmfunnel.com. It is meant to be shaking. MARKETING AND CHANGING BELIEFS IN MLM A marketer does not nothing more than change beliefs in order to cause a sale. That's what marketing is. It's not… Logos Slogans Ads … That's all part of it, it's an appendage. But marketing itself is changing beliefs with the intent of a sale to happen. The first two MLMs I was in were like, "Okay, let's do some three-way phone calls. Make a huge list of your friends and family. And, by the way, you might wanna think about throwing a home party." I did those things! The three-way phone calls, the fake home parties, I made a huge list of uninterested friends and family, and it was extremely embarrassing. I still have soured relationships to this day because of that, and I hate it. I will fight it. It's the reason WHY I created such an intense ad. Go and check out themlmfunnel.com. For those of you who are like, "I don't know if I should be in Secret MLM Hacks yet." Probably going to themlmfunnel.com is the place to start with if you're not ready yet. If you are wanting to go full swing, like, "Stephen, I'm ready to do this. Let's make this an actual asset." Go to Secret MLM Hacks and buy the program. We're about the raise the price on it because it's freakin' incredible. Go to themlmfunnel.com. If you're limited… That's fine, the book's $7 and it omes with all those bonuses. When you go to themlmfunnel.com, I beg you to buy SLOWLY, so you can watch through all the things that I'm doing inside there. CHECK OUT THE MLM FUNNEL Probably the biggest question I get is: “Steve, how are you using the internet for your personal MLM today?” To be clear, I am, but it's HOW that matters, and it's HOW that you're probably interested in. Facebook doesn't easily let you drive ads to MLM, and most MLMs won't even let you say their name on the internet, which is stupid. Despite those and other forces, I am using the internet to grow my personal downline and sell products. MLM is changing, and you're probably feeling that, right? It's why I created a little mini-course in a bundle… To show you HOW I'm doing this all today. It's called The MLM Funnel and you can get it at themlmfunnel.com. I'm doing this because you might not know WHERE to start in all of this and, secondly, because there's a cool new book by Russell Brunson called Network Marketing Secrets that I want you to go get. He's a cool guy, so I'm talking about this book a lot lately. I'm also going to give you a little bribe so you go get the book through my link. How evil of me. When you go to themlmfunnel.com and get Russell's new book, Network Marketing Secrets, I'm going to give you my Pre-built Recruiting Funnel Template, the Hack MLM Downline Onboarding Course, which is how I auto-train my downline when they join my team. ALSO, a discount ticket to my next event called OfferMind so that you can learn to outvalue your upline and downline. If you want all this for FREE, just go to themlmfunnel.com now and get a crash course into prebuilt funnel templates that I'm using with my own downline now. Again, just go to themlmfunnel.com and buy Russell Brunson's new book there, and I'll send you all those bonuses for free.
Rank #2: 104: Teresa Harding - Queen Of Offline Recruiting.... I have a very special guest for you today! Frankly, I'm very shocked that we are able to get someone with such incredible stature in this show. SHE’S AMAZING! She's an incredible individual and we're all very lucky to have her here. I'm not gonna say the name of her MLM. I wanna keep it very company neutral so this remains a PURE marketing knowledge place. She… Has helped open 40 countries for the network marketing company she's a part of. Has a downline of over FOUR AND A HALF MILLION people! Is an INCREDIBLE person and she has a podcast called MLM Game Changer. We're VERY privileged to have her on here today. Teresa, welcome to the show. THE QUEEN OF OFFLINE RECRUITING Teresa Harding: Thank you! I am REALLY excited to be here and I honestly feel really honored because you’ve been a mentor for a lot of the things that I've learned. Thank you for having me! Steve: That's awesome, thanks so much. People may not know you yet or have listened to your podcast yet… How did you get started in this game? Teresa: Oh, my goodness, I HATED network marketing. I thought it was almost EVIL. There were experiences where people tricked you into coming to a meeting at their house… They invite you to dinner, that whole thing, and I couldn't stand it! I was not interested AT ALL. https://youtu.be/aqn-PxmrYGE My sister invited me to a class, and I love my sister. We're very close. I knew I was going to go support her but I told my husband, "Look, would you please come with me? I have to go to this thing because I have to support her." So I went and I was SURPRISED by the product. As you guys all know… Network marketing companies often have pretty amazing products. Steve: Amazing products! Teresa: I didn't know that at the time… Ours is a health product. My niece at the time was two years old… She started having some pretty serious neurological problems that were pretty scary, and someone told my sister, "Oh, you should try this product"... And I thought, "Oh, brother, are you kidding me?" The support and what I saw was actually UNBELIEVABLE… So I started researching and looking into it and ended up WANTING the product but NOT gonna the business. I started using the product and helping people with the product and I started getting a little paycheck but I WASN’T trying to build. BUILDING AN OFFLINE RECRUITING BUSINESS So, I thought, "Fine. I'll do this for three months. I am not talking to my friend and I am not talking to my family." Steve: Right! Teresa: In that, I think we're kindred spirits. I have heard SO MANY of your trainings! That's how I got involved, fell in love with it and now, LOVE… Helping people Network marketing Steve: When did it start becoming a REAL thing for you? You're like, "Man, this is actually something that I wanna go full-time into and get four and a half million people"? Obviously, it didn't happen all at once… But what did that look like? Teresa: And of course, it doesn't happen by yourself. It really takes A LOT of people working hard together and I have a lot of amazing leaders on my team, as you can imagine. Once I decided I'm gonna do this for three months… I'm kind of a go-getter and I always reach my goals. My goals are always crazy high where I constantly have naysayers telling me it can't be done, and I just go ahead and do it anyway… I don't always reach them as soon as I want. I decided to try it for 3 months and then I went after it… It was working and it was UNBELIEVABLE! NETWORK MARKETING IS HELPING PEOPLE I quickly discovered that it really IS about helping people. I built mine offline at first and it's just been amazing. And I absolutely that you don't pressure people. It's not about chasing, hunting people down. We are not the hunter and they are not the target. Steve: Yeah, absolutely. One of the biggest questions I get, and I'm sure you get it all the time, is… “How long have you been at it?” And I feel like the thing that they're asking is, “Is it really worth it for me to go after that?” And they're trying to find some logical reason to release themselves from the pressure of moving forward. With that backdrop, and everyone now knowing how I feel about that… How long have you been at it? Teresa: I've been doing this for 11 years. At first, I was doing it part-time because I was a stay-at-home mom. I'd never really been involved in business before. Of course, I had skills and I had been to college… But I wanted to raise my own kids. So, I did that and this came about right as my kids were getting a little bit older. I would only do it part-time while they were at school or at their sports practices and things like that. NETWORK MARKETING PART TIME For the first several years, it was very part-time… But I'm an overachiever, which is fun for me. I would get A LOT done in the time that I had but then… As it got to a point where I could spend more time on it and I was able to do it full-time, I remember the day thinking, "Okay. Now, let's see what we can do." At that point, I was a pretty high rank (third from the highest rank that you could achieve in the company). I'd achieved A LOT… Steve: That's so awesome. Teresa is 100% the queen of offline building. You have this down to a SCIENCE. You're so good at it, you're known for it. You have your own programs on that as well! Did you learn those things? I'm sure some of it was discovered along the way… Better tactics and methods on recruiting... How do you start getting really good at that? Because MOST don't. Teresa: First of all, you have to know… I am EXTREMELY opinionated about how it should be done. The way that people pressure and try to approach all their friends and family… I did not agree with that AT ALL! We DO have people make their list… But the way they approach is absolutely about WHAT they know that person actually NEEDS. The thing I fell in love with when I found your online stuff was that we had been trying to figure out online for the last four years and we HAD figured it out… But not to the extent that you had. NETWORK MARKETING ONLINE When I found your stuff I freaked out because I was like, "Oh, my goodness." We HAD figured it out, but that was the icing on the cake! We've geeked out over you… Over ClickFunnels… All of that. The way that you teach online, that's exactly how you should be doing it offline. All the things that you do… Attract the people who are interested Don't go after the people who are not interested Not trying to get every single person on your team If you're worrying more about the other person than yourself… You're meeting their needs and solving their problems. If you can solve their problems, you'll continue that journey together. But if you CAN’T, you can still be friends. You don't need to bring up that stuff all the time. The best compliment I ever got was when a neighbor of mine came to me needing something for a health situation. She didn't use our product, but she knew of our product. She needed to find something for her daughter and asked if we had anything. I told her “Yes”, I was HELPING her. She said, "There are a lot of people in our neighborhood who do your business… My husband said, I don't want you talking to anyone else, I want you talking to Teresa because she won't hound us, and she won't bug us." Steve: WOW! Teresa: That's probably the most powerful compliment because that is EXACTLY how you build offline… NETWORK MARKETING ONLINE VS OFFLINE You do the same things that we do ONLINE… There are just some tricks to figuring out how to do it online, in the same way there are some tricks to figuring out how to do it offline… It's just it's faster online, which is so exciting as we've gotten into that! Steve: It's funny because the way I think about the Internet… There are a few very easy plays (like little football plays) that I think about. "I'm gonna run that play, I'm gonna run that play." And I just know it just works because it adds value before you go follow up with asking them to actually join. What's one of your favorite methods for offline growth? Teresa: We actually have some scripts that we give people for different types of situations… So many people say too much, or say it wrong… The nice thing about online is you write it in the funnel, then it's there and you don't mess up. The hard part about offline is you need to LEARN how to say things… Ultimately it’s about: Asking them questions Finding out what it is that they need In the online space, we try to touch those emotions that make them feel like we are talking to them… That's the exact same thing we're doing OFFLINE where we're finding out WHAT their needs are. That's ONE thing that we do… OFFLINE RECRUITING TECHNIQUES The second thing we do is, any time I meet someone… I am not trying to bring up my MLM. I am trying to get to know them, making new friends… It's fun for me! I make new friends! I travel a lot internationally and I make new friends. When we're talking, two things ALWAYS come up… Your business or what you do for work Health If I saw a movie that I wanted to tell you about… I'm not gonna make any money off that movie. But if it was so awesome, I'm going to want to tell you about it. "Steve, oh, my God, have you seen that movie? It's awesome, you have to go and see that movie." I would do it the same way whether or not I'm gonna make money off of that. If it's really something that I feel that way about and I could help people with, then that's how we approach it. Steve: That makes total sense, it is very natural with that approach. That's very cool. One of the reasons why I started doing MLM on the Internet is because I was so afraid to talk face-to-face with people. In that four and a half million you must have someone who's fearful of talking face-to-face? So I was like, "Well, I'm kind of a nerd. I'll go create a system, but that's really nerdy and most don't go do that." For all the people who are like, "Alright, Teresa, how do I go do it? I've got Steven's stuff but I still wanna talk face-to-face." What do you say to those people who are just super scared of talking face-to-face, how do you get over that fear? OFFLINE RECRUITING = FACE-TO-FACE Teresa: There's at least ONE person in four million… Probably every single one has been there… Even when I was super confident and had been presenting in front of tens of thousands of people… I would still get in front of someone on the airplane and all of a sudden something would happen and I would wanna be careful not to make it awkward. Steve: Yeah, just clam up in the air… Teresa: That's ALWAYS a thing… We: Teach people Do role Have a script that is super simple and not awkward, that anybody can use … You could totally use it for your company. It says HOW to offer the sample (or whatever you're gonna do) and it's so powerful. IT WORKS. Our numbers increase significantly when we use this script. It tells you what to say to them if they had a: BAD experience GOOD experience We have spent so many marketing dollars on figuring out HOW soon should you respond to someone. For example, with your email sequence, you know EXACTLY what days you're sending those out. Steve: Boom, BOOM, BOOM! Teresa: It's the EXACT same thing! You give them the sample, and three days is waaay too long. If you do it the next day, they feel like you're hounding them. They're like, "Why won't you leave me alone now?" FOLLOWING UP WITH PEOPLE IN NETWORK MARKETING TWO DAYS is perfect, and you warn them ahead of time. For example, I always tell them I’m going to contact them, tell them why, and tell them how. That sounds like it can be so dramatic, but listen to this, it's super simple… So if I said, "Hey, Steve, you've got this thing, okay? Try it like this and I'll give you a call in a couple of days to see how it's going." Steve: So it's seeded… I don't feel pressure. Teresa: Now when I do call you, you're not going. "Why is she calling me again?" You're going, "She is taking such awesome care of me. I can't believe she's taking the time to do this with me." Just little things like that. I've seen your trainings on sales pages and the wording that you do. It's exactly the same thing, it really is. Steve: That's so cool! Yeah, many people have asked how do they do offline. It's the same... I'm not going to build a funnel, I'm just gonna do it my way. That IS a funnel. It doesn't matter whether it's online or offline. Funnels existed when the first caveman traded a rock for a piece of whatever. Teresa: That's why I was so excited when I found your stuff. You took the real way to do network marketing that is truly helpful, not pressure… And you put it online. You didn't change it and mess up the system. THE BEAUTY OF ONLINE RECRUITING The beauty of online is you can do it faster and reach more people. If you can spend ad dollars, that's even better. I have made more stupid mistakes than anybody network marketing… I am quite sure. So I know my stuff inside and out. I was learning the online stuff and digging even deeper, and going, “How fun to connect the two, how fun to put it together and go, wow, this is honestly moving into the 21st century!” Steve: It's taken FOREVER! We’VE got a lot of up-lines that are AFRAID of it… When did you start reaching out for assistance and help and growth? Were you consuming books and CDs and courses? What kind of training did you consume at the beginning? Teresa: When we first started, I'd never done this before… I didn't have any connections in the industry and I had not had any success myself because I was BRAND NEW… So I went to the owners of our company (who are pretty renowned) they're amazing in the industry. But they're not used to doing what we do... But they were EXTREMELY helpful. I learned as much as I could and I basically went to them and said, "Okay, you tell me who's making the most in network marketing and you tell me what they're doing, and then I will try to mimic that." NETWORK MARKETING BOOKS Then started reading tons of business books, tons of network marketing books… I can't even share my gratitude enough for the people who come before who spent their lifetime learning all these things so that I can learn in a book what it took them years and years to learn. There's always great information… But I'm pretty opinionated about that whole pushy network marketing attitude. And there are some books out there that are very much that way. You will NEVER hear me advocating that. I absolutely don't think it's necessary. Obviously, it's not. I believe that that's ONE of the reasons our team is so massive… Because it doesn't feel that way. I devour books and I read like crazy. I was on Goodreads, and they had this reading challenge last year where they said, "How many books do you wanna read?" We were living in China and I thought, “This is a busy year, so I probably better just say one book a month, even though I know I read a lot.” By the end of the year, I had read 40 books. Steve: What happened to your team growth when you started consuming all that training? Teresa: Oh, my goodness! What happens is, your team grows exponentially! OFFLINE RECRUITING TO ONLINE RECRUITING Not just in relation to how much you're learning, because you know what it's like… The more you grow your business, the more you have to face things about yourself that you didn't necessarily wanna face. Steve: And it sucks. Teresa: It's weird… It's like you hit these lids that you don't realize you're hitting until you up-level your skill in that area… You become a better leader, you learn something more that allows you to lead better, grow bigger, and progress more. Steve: I think of it like those rock tumblers that we used to have growing up… Did you ever have those? You put all those rocks in and it’s super loud, really annoying… Then you pull it out and you're like, “Oh, that was awesome.” The nastier the rock, the more beautiful at the end. Teresa: Smooth and gorgeous and a color that you didn't even know. Steve: So you started building and building and building offline (obviously) and then… And then did you start taking that offline-to-online growth? Teresa: It's never perfect… You always have things to learn but we knew how to do that offline building, no problem. I started trying to do live seminars about six or seven years ago because I thought, “We know how to do this, we are good at this.” If we can get MORE people in the room, we go BIGGER, we can go FASTER. It worked and we were starting to figure it out… I actually partnered with some people who had run massive events for people like Zig Ziglar… But it takes A LOT of capital and you're flying the whole team out to the area, going to Colorado and all of a sudden, it hit me… FIGURING OUT ONLINE NETWORK MARKETING You think I'd have figured this out sooner, but I was like, “Duh, if we're gonna do this, why do it live? Why not do it online?" That's when I started going, "Dude, we figured this out online and then, of course, we can go do live events and people will come," It has been so fun and so expensive until I found you guys. We had gotten the cost per acquisition down pretty low… Lower than anyone I know aside from the people that you train. AND THEN, I found your stuff and it was so exciting. And in fact, we brought a little gift for you. Steve: Oh, yeah? Teresa: Can I share this little surprise? Steve: Absolutely. Teresa: We made this for you. Steve: Oh, yeah? Teresa: I just have to tell you that my office team, my employees have been really excited about this and they've been sharing this all over the office over and over again. We have a segment… I won't share the whole thing here because it's too long. The one that we're going to give you is four minutes long, but this one is just 15 seconds… Steve: I'm so excited! NETWORK MARKETING MAGNET Teresa: That's part of what draws people to you and to what makes you a magnet. We have a four-minute segment that is just super-fun and I'll just tell you… We didn't have time. We're gonna give you this and you can use it for however you see fit. It might just be fun to have as a sound on your phone. I'm gonna turn that into my ringtone for you. Steve: Oh, it sounds good. That's awesome! I was speaking at an event once and there's a Q&A section at the end… This lady stood up and she said, "I know you're thinking about apps. Will you ever make an app for all the sound effects you make?" And I was like, "I think I'm flattered." Teresa: That was awesome! Steve: It's so funny 'cause I never realized I was doing it! Teresa: It's what makes it engaging because you're so fun. You're so YOU and you just draw people in! Steve: That means a lot. I'm very excited about it. Teresa: It's really fun. I hope you like and I hope you take it as a compliment. Steve: It's a huge compliment, totally. I will take that and blast it EVERYWHERE! Thank you SO MUCH for being on the show and thanks for walking through this. OFFLINE RECRUITING ADVICE Could you just give ONE MORE piece of advice for somebody who is just starting out and they're seeing this road and they're like, "Oh, man, she's been doing this for 11 years." Teresa: I would absolutely look to the masters WHO knows what they're doing and do what they do. Steve's trainings are phenomenal, that MLM Hacks… Oh my goodness! The thing I love about your training is people can do this very low level. You DON’T have to be techy and you DON’T have to be a coder. You have trainings that allow you to go slow, but then, you take people up the ladder to go into something that is bigger. The people who wanna go deeper, like me… It allows us to geek out over that stuff and you guide us through the process to make sure that we do it right. NETWORK MARKETING FRONT LINE I've done this for 11 years, and I have people who wanna be on my front line… I say, "Okay. So, if you're serious about this, I gotta know," and we go through the requirements. The requirements are basically... You do it the way that I teach until you hit *THIS* rank Once you're that rank, you do whatever you want because I've seen it, I've done it, I know what works I love the Secret MLM Hacks because you take people through the process without them having to go figure it all out for 10 years by themselves. You've been doing this for a long time, you truly are the guru. You deserve kudos for that, because you are helping people all across the industry and I know that this is starting a wave that is changing the MLM industry. In answer to your question, I would say If you only wanna build online, build online. If you only wanna build offline, build offline. But if you wanna do both, I would recommend that you build the way you want, but make sure you incorporate the best pieces of BOTH of those sides so that you can reach ANYBODY. NETWORK MARKETING GAME CHANGER You're gonna come across people who simply say, "I wanna be on your team." Steve: Yeah, a lot. Teresa: You don't build offline because you build online… But you end up having to handle it offline and you're just good at it. This might sound weird but… One of my tricks is to belittle the goal so that it's not so massive in my mind that I'm like, "There's no way I can go pull that off." If I try to consume and understand and plan for all of it at the same time, there's no way! You get stressed out. At the beginning, when I first started this, there were no podcasts. No one was talking about this angle of it and it's cool to see how 180 degrees that is now. I have bought your packages, I know your stuff and I'll just tell you… It changes the game. Steve: That's awesome, thank you so much. Thanks for being on here! Where can people find you? Besides MLM Game Changers ←- Everyone go look at the podcast. Teresa: The podcast, MLM Game Changers and we also have teresahardingmasterclass.com. We have pre-registration there for a FREE Master Class that we do, teaching people how to combine the online with the offline. I give shout-outs to Steve all the time. There are certain people online that are THE BEST OF THE BEST. Steve is one of them. Steve: Thanks so much! Teresa: Thank you for having me on. Steve: Thanks for being on the show! Everyone go check out and follow Teresa Harding. She's amazing! She's the Queen of the offline bill. TO RECRUIT ONLINE OR TO RECRUIT OFFLINE… To recruit online or to recruit offline… That is the question. By now if you listen to the show at all, you know I focus heavily on methods to recruit online in largely automated ways. But what if you don't know what to do with speaking to somebody face-to-face who's actually interested? What do you do? What do you say? How do you keep the conversation moving? When should you follow-up and how often? Who should you pursue and who should you move on from? Frankly, and totally honest, I'm good at all that online stuff. But if you're like me, you might be a little bit of an introvert in the real world. Whilst sales and marketing online is still sales and marketing offline, the mechanics are a little bit different. I'll be an expert in what I am loudly, but I can't pretend to know all of these offline methods because I don't. Who better to introduce you to, than the Queen of offline recruiting herself, Teresa Harding. Teresa literally has MILLIONS of people in her downline as you listened to this. She's an offline recruiting EXPERT. However, several months ago, she ran into my programs online and said exactly what you heard in my interview with her. "Steve, you did what we've been trying to do for 10 years." If you wanna check out the same programs Teresa Harding has, go to listentoteresa.com and watch the free web class now. Kind of like salt and pepper, Teresa and I are excited to finally collaborate a little to show you your individual strengths. She'll teach you OFFLINE recruiting, I'll teach you ONLINE recruiting. If you're ready to learn more of what Teresa did from my programs just type in, listentoteresa.com.
