Practicing Presence

 Many people seek enlightenment as a way to escape the suffering that they're experiencing in this moment. They project that they will experience peace at some point in the future, and so the mind focuses on reaching that future moment when the goal of enlightenment has been attained and peace is known. The confusion here is that suffering is not avoided by moving the attention away from the experience of now, but by the radical opposite: moving the attention closer to the experience of now. So, in order to experience peace one must give up the idea that it lies in a future experience and surrender fully into this moment. Many people seek enlightenment as a way to escape the suffering that they're experiencing in this moment. They project that they will experience peace at some point in the future, and so the mind focuses on reaching that future moment when the goal of enlightenment has been attained and peace is known. The confusion here is that suffering is not avoided by moving the attention away from the experience of now, but by the radical opposite: moving the attention closer to the experience of now. The Superpower of Seeing Reality Through the Eyes of Truth

It is very common during the process of spiritual awakening that a sense of fear arises from the separate self. When we open to our true nature, the one consciousness, the mind can experience a fear of its own death. This is a crucial moment in spiritual practice, and what is required in that moment is to completely allow and surrender fully to the experience of fear.  It is in this surrender that the sense of separation dissolves and falls away like a curtain, revealing the nature of the true self, pure awareness. With this realization comes the knowing that I am eternal, infinite consciousness, and I am also a temporary expression of form, and there is no separation between the two.
