There have been some pretty exciting developments in the world this week, chief among them, Crayola is now offering a Colors of the World crayon pack that lets kids everywhere have exactly the right skin tone color for who they want to draw. We talk Crayola, space launches, and so much more on this episode.

We recorded this episode on video, so if you'd like to watch us as we talk with you, check out our YouTube page.

Here's what we talked about on this week's episode:

  1. We discovered what exactly a slushie beer is by enjoying Son of Shakey, a Vanilla Milkshake IPA from Maplewood Brewing. Have you tried a slushie beer? We have a limited amount available at LGCM right now!
  2. Nick fully supports John Krasinski selling "Some Good News" to keep the series going. How do you feel about this feel good project continuing?
  3. Bridget is a big fan of these Zen Pig books to help fill your child's day with gratitude. Do you have any tips on how to teach children gratitude? (Nick note - Elliot is a very grateful child, and Bridget is a wonderful parent.)
  4. Nick is going to keep sharing products he is buying while he's setting up his house. This week he FINALLY got TV's up, and is cutting the cord. To facilitate this, he has a Roku Streaming Stick+ (or two) and it works great with all the various services. Bridget also heartily endorses this product, so get yours right here.
  5. Bridget is going to be making this Easy Beef Stir Fry recipe at home this week.
  6. And Nick cannot tell you how much he loves this Pork Carnitas Made in Lard recipe. They're by far the most superior taco you'll ever eat.

Rank #7: Enjoy Your Food Like a Chef with Chef Nelly Buleje of Grand Geneva Resort and Spa

Podcast cover
Read more

As a millennial, I have a lot of anxiety. (Haha - everyone loves a good millennial joke!) One of the things I have anxiety about is trying new types of foods and not being "inauthentic" about "someone else's" cuisine or culture. I think a lot of other people feel this way as well, and I wanted to talk to a culinary expert about this dilemma.

On this episode we're joined by Chef Nelly Buleje of Grand Geneva Resort and Spa to talk about this topic. In Chef's own words, "he's as Latino as Latino comes" but his signature restaurants are an American-style steakhouse, and a high-end Italian restaurant. Some people might have a hard time making this work, but Nelly is totally comfortable in his shoes, and loves what he's doing. He shares how he approaches learning about food, appreciating other cultures, and staying authentic to the spirit of a cuisine.

Nelly is a fun guy, and this is a fun chat. We hope you enjoy it, and come away with even more confidence to experience and enjoy new foods.

Grand Geneva Resort and Spa is hosting a "Winter Wine Dinner: a night of dry aging, curing and sous vide" on Friday, February 28th. This meal will feature 5 courses of delectable food will be paired with wines from the Duckhorn Wine portfolio. It's sure to be a great event, and one you don't want to miss. You can get tickets at grandgeneva.com or by clicking here.

Podcast cover
Read more

We switched up our normal format and are sharing our 4 tips to keep you eating nutritious, delicious, affordable food no matter what your situation during the Corona Virus crisis. Here are our practical, panic free tips:

  1. If you're at home with kids, try making fun recipes that they can make with you, involve them in the process, and try themed meals around their favorite characters!
  2. If you know someone in quarantine that needs food, try bringing them freezer meals that they can make as needed.
  3. If you want to limit your social contact through shopping less, try stocking your freezer, most meat lasts 6 months, and try defrosting it in cold water.
  4. Finally, if you're wanting to want to save some money while still eat great, look for recipes that use ground beef, pork shoulder, or pork chops, and use whole turkeys and whole chickens that are affordable and yield multiple meals from one item.

These tips are good year round - not just during a global pandemic - and we provide more detail in the podcast. We also have a bit of fun talking about stocking up on wine, providing product recommendations to keep your kids busy, and our ever popular kids corner segment!

You can get more detailed information, recipes, and links to our product recommendations at dinnerplusdrinks.com.

Candles are serious business - especially when you're trying to raise money for charity! In this video episode (click here to watch on YouTube!) of the Dinner Plus Drinks podcast, Bridget and Nick entered mortal combat to determine who could design the most spring smelling candle. To accomplish task, we reached out to our friends Liz and Leigh Ann at Lake Geneva's Candle Mercantile and teamed up with Kisses from Keegan, a local charity that grants wishes and joyful experiences for local kids fighting cancer.

After consulting with the candle experts Liz and Leigh Ann, Bridget and Nick each designed a custom blend of 3 different spring scents. Liz mixed up the candles and judged the results. You'll have to watch to see who won!

Both of these candles can be yours - just head to Kisses From Keegan's website by April 10th, 2020, and make a donation (any size will do!) with the dedication to "Lake Geneva" and you'll be entered to win. We'll pick a winner, and you'll get one of Bridget's candles, and one of Nick's candles. You can judge which one is best for yourself and enjoy a fresh smell of spring in your home!

Thanks for watching and thanks for your support of Kisses From Keegan!
