EP 29 - The Buzzed Kill Countdown: Top 10 Kills/Deaths

Have you ever found yourself talking about your favorite decapitation or or reminiscing about the joy that you felt when someone was bashed over the skull so hard that their eyes popped out of the sockets? Maybe you've even been gabbing like an overexcited schoolboy about your most treasured disembowelment memory, when suddenly, you realize that Grandma has fainted, Mom is praying for your soul, Dad started drinking straight from the whiskey bottle, and family dinner is completely ruined. Oh good, it's not just us. Well, one of the reasons we started The Buzzed Kill Podcast is so we could freely talk about the murder and mayhem and we love so much, without feeling shunned by our families, who wouldn't know a good movie even if it peeled their skin off and rolled them in salt. This week we let some Skull Splitter Ale from Orkney Brewery do what it does best, then dug around in our brains to come up with each of our top 10 favorite kills and death scenes.

Episode 171 - Deep In The Drug Game

People who listen to our show often ask us if we are on drugs, and we get why some of you might think that.
So we always say, “Yeah, it must seem like it sometimes. With the ideas that we come up with on the show, and the absolute depth of our conversations, you probably assume that we must be on some mind-altering drugs that enhance our perception and allow us to transcend the mental realms of normal film analysis.”
Then we find out they were curious because it seems like two grown men who can’t string together a single coherent thought must be on drugs.
Well, we’re not on drugs, but this week all of the people in the movies we watched were. So grab some Hemperor HPA from New Belgium Brewing, and join us for a real trip, maaaan. Cheers!!!

Episode 114 - We had an AJA moment!
Directors Spotlight: Alexandre Aja

An “aha moment” is a point in time, event, or experience when one has a sudden insight or realization.
An “Aja moment” is a point in time, event, or experience when one has a knife suddenly dragged across their throat, a masonry saw suddenly pushed slowly through their rib cage, a giant rock suddenly smashed into their skull, or their head suddenly removed by an otherwise harmless credenza, and the realization that if they are in an Alexandre Aja movie, they’re pretty much screwed.
This week we grabbed some Kronenbourg 1664 Pale Ale, and turned our directors spotlight on Alexandre Aja and two of his films.

Episode 187 - What A Richard! - Directors Spotlight: Richard Stanley

Typically when you say that someone is an absolute Richard, it’s meant as an insult. Like, “Don’t be such a Richard”, or “why don’t you ingest a satchel of Richards”, but every once in awhile an absolute Richard comes around and changes the entire meaning. Such is the case with the director in this week’s spotlight, the enigmatic and eccentric Richard Stanley. From casting rockstars in his early films, and pretty much losing his mind and fleeing to live in the woods during a shoot, to his recent triumphant return to the directors chair, Stanley is a director to whom we confidently say “we hope you continue being an absolute Richard”
This week we grabbed some Abita Purple Haze, and discussed a Richard Stanley classic, as well as his most recent outing. Cheers!!!

Episode 85 - Bad' Day, Mate!

Australia seems like an amazing place to visit. The Great Barrier Reef, The Sydney Opera House, Crocodile Dundee, Kangaroos, It all sounds great. Of course, Australia does have its drawbacks, as well. Poisonous snakes, gigantic spiders, blistering heat... and kangaroos. Yes, kangaroos made the pros AND the cons list, you know, because they are cute from a distance, but might also kick you in the nuts. Aside from all of those things, Australia seems to have one disturbing trend that we happened to notice as horror fans. They apparently really enjoy kidnapping, and torturing the living sh** out of you. Now, if we are wrong on this one, please feel free to let us know, but based on the fact that we get the majority of our worldly knowledge from horror films, we're going to keep to the InFront for now.... get it... OutBack.... InFront.... It's a play on wor.... never mind. This week we grabbed a six pack of Short's Brewery The Liberator, and discussed a couple Aussie films about being held captive. G'DAy.

Episode 138 - Till Death Do Us, Party!

...To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.
That’s kinda nice. Except for that whole “for better, for worse” part. What’s that all about? As horror fans our minds can go to some pretty dark places. Exactly how “worse” are we talking here? Like if the groom calls the bride the wrong name while giving a toast, is that a deal breaker? What if one of the families interferes with the relationship a little too much, by trying to steal the brides body for a dark ritual. What if the groom becomes possessed by a restless spirit? All we’re saying is, make sure you consider all the possibilities before you take those vows and end up living with a literal demon for the rest of your life.
Marriage is what brings us together today. The marriage of our production wizard, J-Rog, and we couldn’t be happier, because we love him and his bride-to-be, and also because we have found no threat of demon possession. Should be smooth sailing for a lifetime. So grab some Island Bliss from Evil Twin Brewing, and help us send the happy couple off to their wedding in paradise. Cheers!!!

Episode 130 - Attack of the Killer Combos

Before you freak out and start throwing away the contents of your snack cupboard, no we are not talking about the delicious cracker/pretzel treats that are stuffed with pizza flavored cheese product. When we say combos, we mean the unholy union of two or more creatures to create one finely tuned killing machine. You know, like a mix between Tiger and an Owl to create a Towel, or a Bird and a Baboon to create a Birboon, or a Shark and Mike's penis, which is basically just a shark, but its spine curves drastically to the left. You get the point.
So this week, we grabbed some of The Mighty Shorse Imperial IPA from Short's Brewing, threw some Hybrid Animal flicks into the mix. Cheers!

Episode 186 - Bad Brew: House Of The Dead

What can we say about this week’s movie pick? What can we say? No, seriously.... what can we say? We honestly can’t find the words. You’re about to listen to a two hour long episode of us staring at each other in stunned silence. Every once in awhile there may be a slight nervous giggle that devolves into a sob of anguish, or a sharp, frustration-filled exhalation, akin to the sound you’d make after receiving a sucker punch to the diaphragm from Uwe Boll. Other than that...crickets.
For this week’s Bad Brew, we took a second, and no doubt final, look at 2003’s House Of The Dead directed by Uwe Boll, and washed it down with 25oz crisp ounces of the only appropriate beer for the task, Natural Ice. Cheers!

We’ve been at this for a couple years now. Week after week we watch the horror films that we adore so much. We pore over the details, and take in every nuanced intricacy, then we step into that studio, and the real fun begins. For hours we wax lyrical about the kills, the creatures, the blood and carnage, the actors, directors, and everything in between. Some may call us horror fanatics, but we have a secret..... Our favorite film genre is actually....... RUSSIAN ROMANTIC COMEDIES!!
WHAT A TWIST!!!

We are always doing our homework and preparing for the coming days, and what better place to get very useful, fact-based knowledge than the Alien franchise. This week, for the good of mankind, we decided to share that knowledge with an in-depth discussion about facehuggers, xenomorphs, space marines, and women who really pull off a shaved head. Episode 147 - The Price Is Right: Actor Spotlight on Vincent Price

The 60's gave us a lot of life altering things. Lava lamps, bell bottoms, and banana seat bicycles all literally changed the way we lived our lives. However for those who weren't into tie dye and the twist, the 60's also gave us some darker delights such as the Ouija boards. But most importantly, this was the decade that gifted horror fans a near perfect trifecta. Edgar Allen Poe, Roger Corman, and the man of the hour, Vincent Price. So price out a sixer of The Poet Oatmeal Stout from New Holland Brewing, and lose yourself in some classic Vincent Price flicks from the 60's!

If you’re not a pig person, this episode is going to be extremely... boaring. Haha, sorry that was just our ham-fisted attempt at being funny. You won’t actually be boar’d, because the beauty of this show is that you can still go about your daily business while listening. You can listen while you’re bacon a cake. You can listen in the porking lot while you’re waiting for your kids to get out of school. Heck, if it’s nice snout-side, you can even listen while you moo your lawn. Oops sorry, a cow pun worked its way in there.
Anyway, this week we grabbed some Gnarl Chestnut Amber Ale from North Peak Brewing Company, and discussed the cinematic sty-lings of two Australian directors with a pig penchant. Cheers!!!

Remember the days when kids would put on their most radical threads, throw some mousse in their new do, hop into their dad’s Fiero, and cruise to the mall to hang with their friends? All day long, man, just scanning the place for cute babes, hittin’ up the food court for a Hot Dog on a Stick and an Orange Julius, fightin’ commies, checkin’ out the freshest duds at Miller’s Outpost, battling giant monsters from other dimensions, scopin’ out some tunage at Camelot Music. Those were the days, man.
All this talk of a bygone era has us feeling nostalgic, so this week we did the closest thing we could do to visiting the glorious shopping malls of the 80’s. We grabbed some Chief Hopper Double IPA from Short’s Brewing Company, and caught up with the Stranger Things crew at Hawkins’ brand new Starcourt Mall.

Episode 81 - I-rish You Were Here

We don’t know a lot about Ireland. Basically, we know what we have been told by other people. All the typical stereotypes, you know? Like, the Irish like to drink, they like to sing, they occasionally fight just because they need a quick break from the drinking and singing, and everything else we learned from the Leprechaun series. Although stereotypes are usually considered a bad thing, we have to be honest, all of those things just make us wish we were Irish. We already like to drink and sing, we could get used to the fighting pretty quickly, and we don’t really think we would mind dealing with the occasional homicidal gold miser. So to honor our “cairde maithe in Éirinn”, we grabbed a sixer of Ireland’s finest Smithwick’s and talked about a couple Irish films that had us Dublin over.

Episode 124 - Norse Mixology

We'll be honest, as fans of the outdoors and beautiful landscapes, any of the Nordic countries seem like they would be a lovely place to go camping or hiking.... or drinking. However, as horror fans, we gotta say, we're a little torn on whether or not it's worth the risk. Sure, here in the States, we've got some creepy stuff going on; haunted hotels, phantom lights in the woods, bigfoot... stuff like that, but that's really nothing compared to what's running around in the Nordics. Trolls! Angry Norse Gods! The KRAKEN, for crying out loud! We know what you're going to say, and we get it, they are probably just old stories. Well, stories have to originate somewhere, and honestly we think we'd have better odds against some floating lights in the woods of Paulding Michigan than against Odin and his giant eight-legged nightmare horse. We still love watching movies about people who aren't as cautious as us though. So this week we grabbed some Ulfrun Session IPA from Borg Brugghus, and discussed two films inspired by Norse Mythology.
