After being pretty unwell last week I was forced to have a few days off, which provided good opportunity to step back and reflect on the way I work and why.  Joined by Jess, founder of Moana Maroke, we compare our experiences of burnout, the culture around working 24/7, and the relationship you have with yourself, when you work for yourself. Jess and I are quite opposites when it comes to setting boundaries and looking after ourselves, so her experience of putting her health and happiness first was so helpful for me to see how finding balance can aid productivity.  This conversation is a great reminder that you can stop and make dinner or take the time to do the things you enjoy and still be a hard working, passionate business owner.  The quick fire round is a long one this week as always bringing that lighter mood and ending us on a high! When I experienced a 'season' (hate that word...) of this last year, I was so overcome with shame and guilt that I kept it to myself. Since things have shifted, it's been remarkable to share my story and see how many others are finding comfort and encouragement in knowing they're not the only one. So, as the name of the podcast suggests, I'm going to continue the conversation by sharing 5 practical things you can do if you have no clients. 088 | Intentions - looking back at 2019’s and setting them for 2020

Running your own business is a very personal thing, so it’s pretty natural that from time to time we find ourselves looking left and right at what our competitors are doing and compare our business to theirs.  The effect of this is definitely something I’m still working through, so I loved having this conversation with Claire to chat through the highs, the lows and the times when you just need to mute and focus on yourself. Everyone will have a different experience when it comes to this topic, for some people it might motivating or inspiring, and while there’s so much power in being connected, it can be hard to cut through the noise, believe in your path, and ultimately, you do you! However, since starting this podcast I’ve always wanted to explore if female only spaces are part of the problem, or part of the solution. As someone with anxiety, the prospect of attending 'business' events (cue big crowds, new people and foreign venues) has never been an easy thing for me. And whilst 4 years ago I couldn't even get on a train without ending up in a total state, I now find myself turning up to events with a sense of confidence, despite that daunted feeling not going away. But don't be fooled, it's not been an overnight thing.
