Neil Pedersen, Esq.

Today's guest is attorney Neil Pedersen, Founder and Principal Attorney at Pedersen Law. SAFFIRE LEGAL PC’s founder and principal attorney Teresa McQueen and Neil provide responses to some FAQs regarding COVID-19 and the Families First Coronavirus Response Act's (FFCRA) Emergency Family Medical Leave Response and Emergency Paid Sick Leave Acts.  Neil also shares his thoughts and experiences as a small business owner in transitioning his 'brick and morter' law practice to a functioning remote workforce.

Designated as a world-wide pandemic in early March, the effects of COVID-19 are touching all of our lives with far reaching implications as the edges of our personal and professional lives begin to blend together; a direct result of 'shelter in-place' orders and the shuttering non-essential workplaces. Teresa and Neil provide employee and employer perspectives regarding leave, layoffs and sick pay provisions of the FFCRA.
Workplace Perspective is a regular podcast series for employers and employees focusing on education, training, and the law to help organizations of all sizes develop and maintain successful employer / employee relationships.

Shortly California's Governor Gavin Newsom's March 19, 2020 stay at home order was issued we at Workplace Perspective began preparing a series of COVID-19 related episodes. Our goal: To share some real stories from real people who are, like you our listeners, dealing with this novel and ever changing environment. We hope you find our guests stories inspirational, affirming and encouraging.

Rest assured that we at Workplace Perspective, in compliance with California's shelter in-place order, are broadcasting for the foreseeable future from our make-shift home studios. We thank you for your continued support!
Thank You To:

Neil Pedersen, Esq.

Rank #6: 1859: #150 Graham Hodgetts: Conversations in Quarantine-From Bomb Shelters to Quarantine

Podcast cover
Read more
Show Notes  Paul, I am really excited to introduce our listeners to my friend, and philanthropic colleague, Graham Hodgetts. Graham’s possesses an impressive resume as a successful engineer, scientist, entrepreneur, and devoted philanthropist. His Masters Degree in Engineering was earned from Crayton Tech in the UK, where Graham was born. Now, I first met Graham in 2017 in Uganda where his company was drilling water wells for Wells of Life, the NGO I work with. Graham is the co-founder and president of a company named CEED, an acronym for Christian East African and Equatorial Economic Development Trust.  CEED, headquartered in Pittsburg, PA, operates in East Africa, largely in Uganda, but now expanding to Kenya. The company not only drills water wells as well as manages a 45 acre coffee farm. CEED has drilled more than 200 wells for Wells of Life. But they have drilled more than 350 wells in total serving up to 300,000 residents in rural communities of Africa. In addition to the above, Graham holds 22 patents and has taken 36 short mission trips to Uganda since 1999. But even more important, like most successful businessmen, I think Graham might have married over his head. Because… his wife, Eileen Enwright Hodgetts, is the author of 27 books on Goodreads and her British murder mystery, Air Raid, was named Best Book of 2019 by Kirkus Reviews. Well, believe me, I have no doubt that Graham Hodgetts will entertain, educate and inspire us all. Rank #7: 1822: #142 Terry Hershey: Emotional and Spiritual Immune Systems

Podcast cover

Show Notes  Today’s episode is once again with my dear friend Terry Hershey who in two days will give a talk on emotional and spiritual immune systems. Before he told me about his speaking gig I had never really considered such a thing as emotional or spiritual immune systems. The thought intrigued me and so… here we are. I thought about it and it occurred to me: When we take a vaccine, we are actually injected with a micro dose of the disease so that our bodies can build up an immune system. So I wondered, “Is the same thing true of our emotions?” If so, then it must be the case that our emotional and/or spiritual Immune systems are developed in our brains only when we allow a negative emotion to have its way for a while. Many businesses start with executing tactics without spending the time to know the dynamics of the market they are competing in.
I recommend you start by focusing on three areas: Insights, Brand and Plan.
And in that order… to become more strategic in achieving your business goals. These three pillars are key to building an effective, efficient strategic growth plan for your business.
Identifying the insights and knowledge you need to define your brand and to create a plan that helps you achieve your vision of success is essential.

Rank #9: 1813: What Separates CRM from Sales Lead Management Software?

Podcast cover
Read more
There has been a steady drum-beat of an emerging category of software to manage sales leads. The category is Sales Lead Management. While Sales Lead Management is a big tent that encompasses many different disciplines and tools, if you search for the category of sales lead management software there are new entrants that say they aren’t CRM. Or are they? Are these “entrants” just CRM companies that separate themselves from a crowded field?

Rank #11: 1799: Successful Selling for Professional Services: An Unstoppable Approach from Steve Gordon

Podcast cover
Read more
This week's episode is entitled "Successful Selling for Professional Services: An Unstoppable Approach from Steve Gordon" and our guest is Steve Gordon, Founder of The Unstoppable CEO.
We cover strategy methodology for sales and marketing professionals all the time and naturally end up talking mostly about selling products.  It's not often we step back and say, okay, "What is it when you're selling what people DO?"
I facetiously tell people, as a consultant I talk and type for a living, so I don't necessarily have the same widget to be able to sell to everybody or the same piece of software to sell. So selling in professional services obviously is very much a thing. In this episode I ask Steve how is that different and why do people need to think about this a little differently when you're selling professional services versus selling product? And for smaller organizations--- is the answer to that to separate your services from your selling? Is there a way to make that transition? If you are a small firm and representing yourself, what are some of the strategies that you've found work best?
This and a lot more!

Rank #12: 1785: The Importance and Power of Editing: A B2B Masterclass (in 30 Minutes!)

Podcast cover
Read more
I think as people have the opportunity to just publish things off the cuff on social channels, to just write stream of consciousness on a blog platform and just click, press, go... I don't feel like we are as good at editing ourselves as we used to be. And so we talk about this.  To start I ask Lisa how she decided editing is what she wanted to do? How did she begin her career in journalism and why is that something that she's so passionate about today?
This and a lot more!
