This week on the BOX...  DJ somehow manages to talk about politics, again.

Even though he doesn't want to, he talks more politics, kinda. He rails against actual "fake news" and takes on people who only believe what they want to believe.  And he's really wound up by people that refer to him as "typical" anything and the (in)effectiveness of the far-left crying and screeching.

He talks about recent discussions regarding "why people won't listen to new music", why art is just so damn important and he gets into the true "magic" that happens at the LI Rock:Unplugged shows and why they are still worth the effort, even now in its fifth year.

How awful most local original music is, Andy on the train again, Craving Strange's new drummer and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

DJ is talking entry level calisthenics, and has to keep refining his search with "for weight loss" and "beginner" and "at home", but still everyone seems to assume he has a pull-up bar and a "dip" machine - he doesn't!  He's worried that using body weight and gravity-resistance exercises might be a little much to ask from someone that's just trying to get started and happens to be pretty effin heavy.  He';s also pretty close to just throwing in the towel completely.

He eventually gets to music and talks about how hard it is to write with drawn-out tension in songs, and wonders if it's just not luck that made Filter's "Hey man, nice shot!" so damn good.

How good the new Ballyhoo! record is, Spotify's 2018 wrapup, Toys for local Tots and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

Jimmy G. stops by... unexpectedly.  And scares the hell out of DJ... But before that...

DJ talks about "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and the sickest he's ever been and also begins to get into weird band behavior on the majors of social media, but then...

Jimmy from Craving Strange stops by.  They talk about border walls, stress-induced weight gain, playing live with a click and how easily bands can go overboard with that and quickly start looking very foolish. They discuss some common band divisions and band dynamics and the different approaches you can try and then what it's actually like to enter into battle with the army you have.

How fun it is to introduce people to new music, the pathetic state of rock music, band members and MORE!

This week on the BOX...  DJ is back in the gym!

DJ talks about how hard it's been lately to make "simple changes" and wonders if maybe bigger and more disruptive alterations are the way to go.  He says he's tired of seeing pictures of himself and hearing himself "breathe" but there's no way he can just make himself "do a few pushups", ever, let alone a few times per day, so on to the gym it is.

Since there's nothing but colorful people at the gym with him, DJ has no shortage of stories for you, and he's only TWO days in.  He tells the ladies what kind of pants to NOT wear, wonders why trainers are fatter than the clients and is simply blown away by "Black Artie".

Why cats are a-holes, how to get a pig, Andy is at the DMV, next week's LI Rock: Unplugged and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

DJ talks about his major fashion emergency / meltdown / acceptance / resolution incident from over the weekend.  He discusses what it's like being too fat for absolutely ALL of the nice clothes he has, sucking up the embarrassment when you decide to just press on, and how borderline panic-attack he was last-minute-shopping at Macy's when they didn't have anything he could wear anyway.

He talks about what it's like trying to be a "manly" father to a daughter, how annoying it must get when everyone knows what your "thing" is and sends you every "thing"-related piece of everything and the anxiety that comes with trimming a Spotify playlist that no one even cares about but him!

Next week's "Best of the Box", Andy says women need to "own their farts", will Jimmy G. actually perform in 5 sets Thanksgiving Eve and MORE!

This week on the BOX...  If it POPS in the BOX and no one is there to hear it, is it still POPPIN'???

Of course it is!  DJ talks only 1 "politics" today, just to say that he's watching FoxNews at the gym, but shies away from anything else political today.  Instead, he's focused on the gym and how he's mentally able to maintain the effort this time but also why taking the weekend's off are so important.

He talks about Kaz's new solo record... again, but sticks to the questions regarding the liner notes - he wonders if he has to thank his Sweetwater rep on the next REVEL 9 record, what the cutoff for thank you's and mentions is going to be this time out in general, and praises Jimmy G. for his classic gratitude for the anonymous!

DJ's gym shirt smells... a lot, Andy has some Award-Winning "Learning" today, Taking Back Sunday in the LI Music Hall of Fame and MORE!

This week on the BOX...  It's quiet in here...

DJ talks politics and chases everyone out of the chatroom.  Then he talks about his pending blood test results just to ensure no one comes back!

He talks about Kaz's new solo record, and just how hard, and important, it is to be able to "breathe" musically and creatively while in such a busy "main" project, annnnnd how to a record properly - and what HE thinks that actually means.  He also applauds Jimmy G. for his total commitment to any and all Halloween costumes, especially this years and he has all kinds of facebook trouble today, and walks us all through it, unfortunately.

This week on the BOX...

DJ is trying to figure out what he is, politically.  Being socially liberal trumps everything for him, but he's not going to be going overboard with it, and still wishes everyone Merry Christmas.  He's also surprised to find out what a big Matt Skiba fan he is.

He talks about Saturday's show and about how rude people can be while performers are performing (Stop that!). He goes overthe "rules" for wearing your own band merch during your set and is also trying to decide if James from Pathmaker looks enough like Dave Grohl that he shouldn't be wearing Foo Fighter's shirts on stage.

This week on the BOX...  It's the BABY SHARK TAKEOVER of the Hard Rock Lunch Box ...kinda.

DJ veers off politics this to get back to his true calling - complaining about people at the gym. He points out that you can't be "BEAST" mode if you're at the little league of gyms.  Also, stop sweating on the gear.  You're disgusting.

He talks about the generic selfishness of people, how musical influences are all around us and how a good song is a good song no matter what ...UNLESS you perform and/or record it so badly that not even scientists from Japan with all the latest radar could find the "good song" buried in your avalanche of garbage.  Also, how come bands don't wanna work with R9?

This week on the BOX...

DJ talks about how humans aren't really designed to sit around and be inactive all the time, and going to the gym will never change that.  He talks about the possibility of kick boxing and even jiu jitzu, but wonders what sort of "real human" activities he could be passionate about so that his body would just naturally fall in line, because the current situation just ain't working -again.

He talks about writing the perfect song (or verse or chorus) and how he's not "telling" anyone how to do anything; he's just thinking things through out loud based on years of experience and the things he's learned along the way from people that are better at it than he is.

He talks with Annie about her BRAND NEW RECORD "The Chronicles of Jane: Volume 2", what it's like to be a Blackheart - sorta, and if  "Jane" is an actual super hero? a wrestling heroine? or just the worst villain ever?  They talk promotion, the future for the band and what to definitely NOT yell out to performing female artists.

This week on the BOX...

DJ wants to know why all the local cover and tribute bands are so #SOS quiet lately.  Actually that's not true - he totally know why, but now he wants YOU to know.  And he has absolutely no issue shining a light on just how selfish and self-centered those people can be, and "are".  Just one more victory for the #mefirst movement and the sh*t people in it.

DJ also takes a minute to express some gratitude for the the band he's in.  He goes into some of the reasons that it's great to be in one, the hard parts about being "in charge" and how nice it is to finally be having a good time back at rehearsal after its incredibly long absence.

This week on the BOX...

DJ is struggling to keep it together ...again.  After a very rocky start, he spends the rest of the show reeling from the death of Eddie Van Halen.  He explains, or tries to, why it's less about the loss of the "man" and more about the "moments" that his existence are tied to.  Which only seems to make things worse for a little while before finally rounding the corner by the end of the show.

DJ talks about why and how music is important and how it gets tied to the grander landmarks in our life.  And he offers up the possibility that without that specific soundtrack, the tapestry probably wouldn't have been worth weaving in the first place.

DJ's favorite Chevelle story, "where were you when...", chasing dragons and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

DJ explores what it truly means to be a team.  He talks about what he thinks it means and how he's applied it in his life with friends, bands and his own tribe.  He's got plenty of upsides for it, and more than a few downsides.  He wonders at what point you should leave your team, and he cautions about recognizing when your team is no longer "yours".

DJ also has "news from the bandchat".  He reads the latest "conversation" from his band mates in their group chat.  Apparently Noodle is right on top of things "just like Kaz's Mom" but no one handles the balls quite as good "as Tony's Dad".  Yep, Super-productive day over at R9 inc.

This week on the BOX...

DJ has started doing interviews again.  The 'talk master general' has begun formal PR for "Do Know Harm" and managed to turn a 30 minute interview with Total Order Magazine into a 3 hour conversation.  He talks about his process of saying everything there is to say about a record at the start of a press campaign, all the while fine-tuning and simplifying that message until it's much more manageable by the time people are done wanting to hear about it.

DJ also has a big issue being lumped in with "we" especially if the ones saying the "we" stuff don't represent the "me" (or rather, "him") at all.  He stops the show to read a post or two from one of the local "leaders" of the #saveourstages movement and is frankly disgusted by what she has to say and how she says it.  He also points out that he will never align with that movement as long as they let people like that speak for him.

This week on the BOX...

DJ is caught up in the "local music music summit" planned for the 19th.  He reads the invite verbiage on the air, and critiques everything he expects it to be - without any real information or insight into it.  He does eventually explain that he's quite tired of people that just "wanna be mad" at how things are, especially when they don't want to actually do the work to fix something, and extra-specially when they don't even bother to understand how things actually work in the real world after temper-tantrums don't produce the desired result of "mommy" coming and making everything "all better".

DJ also gives a hint of the true loss that is the closing of Revolution; not just for himself, personally, but for his band and the scene as a whole.  And really has nothing to offer in the form of a "way out of this" - and that should probably speak volumes to anyone truly paying attention.

DJ is all about mailboxes.  He tries to explain, and to better understand, privilege as it relates to mailboxes, having them removed and what that means in the current climate.  While easily a provable phenomenon, he points out that people don't "believe it's happening" and "won't" believe it, simply because it's not happening to them or in their neighborhoods.  He points out that that isn't actually what "not happening" means, and wonders how far up the ladder of social ails this mis-perception goes; because clearly racism doesn't exist if it's not happening to white people in the suburbs directly, right?  DJ is clearly worried about this continuing trend towards selfishness, bubbling and good ole stupidity.

DJ also gives everyone a rundown of what it's like to be part of the REVEL 9 promotion machine.  Especially at the break out of a brand new record.  It's not super encouraging.

DJ also breaks down what he thinks is so great about "Unknown" from 10 Years and spends a little time with clips from the song to demonstrate why and how he thinks that.  And even offers up an alternative to anyone out there that can sing a little bit higher than he can, aka, "everybody".

This week on the BOX...

DJ is over trying to save the stupid. He tries not getting political and ends up getting political.  He discusses how dangerous it is to limit your news sources and the kind of corruption of the "truth" that can occur if you don't pay attention.  But since people need to be told not to eat paint, they probably aren't going to recognize a balanced newscast if they tripped over it.  In short, DJ is just tired of having to explain and teach everything to everyone these days and is "cool with it" if the number of "everyones" drops off, significantly, really soon.

DJ also talks about the "New Music Show" on SiriusXM and doesn't understand the credentials required for hosting something like that.  And though he says he's not talking about himself, wonders how much better the show would likely be for unsigned bands if "someone like" him were at the helm.

Tablets on stage, "According to Waterbury" returns, why naming your songs properly is important and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

DJ can't believe he's got to talk about "local shows behaving badly" ...again!  He desperately tries to explain the "food requirement at bars" to people that keep thinking it either blocks the coronavirus or infringes upon their rights to be stupid - nothing can do that, apparently - and cannot believe, again, that people are "cool" with other people not following the NYS guidelines, again!  And why it's such a freaking problem!

DJ also talks about how difficult it was to talk some real "Umbrella Academy" racism with his daughter, Charlotte.  He also explains how his parents and their friends were the ones going down South in the 60s to help end the institutional racism there and wonders - on air - just how may people Southerners he knows currently had parents that were "more the problem than the solution".  And... he wonders how their were kids raised, and is that the problem that's playing out right now?

DJ explains his pain scale, why a NUTUYU recruitment template is important, kidney stone delirium and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

DJ hates The Chainsmokers and the people that went to see them this past weekend even moreso.  He has a hell of a lot to say about the entitled and pretentious POSs that decided they were cool enough to A) throw themselves a "party" out east, B) have The Chainsmokers come play at it and C) not need to wear masks or properly socially distance themselves from the other a**holes in attendance.  He goes into detail, AGAIN, why this is such problem for everyone, and yes, holds the band responsible for a significant part of it.

DJ also thinks Amazon should be ponying up a little more to the country because of their overwhelmingly over-usage of public resources, like the internet and roads which Amazon doesn't pay for at all - we do.

DJ loves his aloe plant, what people are getting wrong about the New York State "dining" rules, being able to shoot people that bypass the line at an off-ramp and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

DJ hates dropbox.  He goes into a fair amount of detail regarding the steps the company seems to be taking in order to NOT get his business.  And now their latest restriction - 3 PCs only - is just a little too much.  With 12 seconds of research, DJ has found a better company that he's currently trying out and he promises to keep you posted!

The "BOX" has also officially gotten in trouble with the RIAA.  DJ explains why he should have seen that coming, why it's legally the right thing to do, but also why it's a really stupid move - and why pretty much any artist would agree.  Regardless, any non-direct-submission song will no longer be included on the replay podcast for the foreseeable future.  DJ says it's not a fight worth waging - and he's probably right.

This week on the BOX...

DJ talks all things News12 LIVE!  He goes through some of the really weird stuff that was going down while he was trying to perform on the livestream this past Thursday night.  He talks about the sound of absolute silence after finishing a song and what it's like to get trolled in the comments 90 seconds into an online performance.

He also has a little bit to say about how helpful his bandmates were with it.  (Is the sarcasm coming through? No? Well, let me turn on the sarcasm filter...)  And he's got tons to say about the premier of the NUTUYU Music Spotlight (www.nutuyumusic.com)

DJ has a really big show coming up... and he's kinda flipping out a little.  He wonders if it's at all interesting for people to "peek behind the curtain" into every semi-maddening thought he's having about getting ready for this thing, and then just proceeds to drag everyone through it anyway, whether they wanted to or not.

REVEL 9 also decides to release "Do Know Harm", finally.

This week on the BOX...

DJ has a problem with stupid people, specifically stupid people effing things up for other people.  And by "other" people, he really does mean "other" people - but also him.  He has (so very) much to say about the super-awesome and amazingly-important, end-all-be-all show of shows that went down Friday night with so many ground-breaking and chart-shattering bands and club goers with oh-so-much "cool-itude" that no one needed to even bother with social distancing, wearing masks, being at all responsible or even following the remarkably simple NYS state guidelines for phase 3 re-opening, because who cares if we ever get to phase 4.  This show was all anyone around here needed to see, right?  Of course not.  Selfish F***s.

DJ also finds time to discuss "the rules" for the 3 Hard Rock Lunch Box Spotify playlists, and after everyone is sound asleep from that explanation he drops some Northlane and hopes everyone likes it.

Where "old" music belongs, what is Kaz listening to, hidden organ parts on the new R9 record and MORE!

This week on the BOX...

DJ has a problem with the way he handled a client so he drags all of us down memory lane with him.  He reflects on a time where he didn't handle something "correctly" at the ripe old age of 16 that still bothers him today.  Don't worry, he also points out how ridiculous that is.  He also seems to be OK with violence on TV as long as it's just Annie punching Artie.

DJ also has a new found affection for K-Pop -specifically for their fans.  He highlights a few recent "moderations" the group has made to our social landscape and thinks everyone of good conscience should take note and learn what a few million motivated - but bored - superfans can accomplish if they want to.

DJ wants to talk about Spotify... and has even brought in documentation to the BOX!  Unsurprisingly, he doesn't get to it for a long while, but eventually he walks us through all the stats he gets to see as an Artist on the Spotify platform, and why they're important.  He also lets "you" know how you can influence those stats and answers the age old question: "What can I do to help?" with three simple steps.

DJ also discusses the problems he's seeing in the "it's ok to be white" pushback and quickly points out that yeah, it's always been "ok" to be white.  And maybe we could all learn a little something from that very simple fact.

This week on the BOX...   Annie Stoic from Jackknife Stiletto stops by.

DJ and Annie talk about band support, smoking at clubs and being a "broad" on the road.  Annie confirms that sexism is alive and well in the country and could do without being asked if they're going to just be "dancing to a track" ever again.  She just wants to be treated like any other rock band, but it doesn't seem like that's coming anytime soon from the fly-over states.

Annie explains the logic of playing 9 shows in a row, to which even the great Melissa Cross responds "why would you do that?" and DJ agrees that she has indeed manged to get "Black Coal Lung" after playing a single show in Southern Indiana.
