Won Presidents Club, the #1 rep 3 years in a row, and has 12 years of incremental revenue growth. He has been in the sales industry for just over 18 years and specifically in medical sales for 16 years. Some of his career highlights include:
-Top 5 of Sales Reps in the Western Region at Cintas where he also earned Rookie of the Year and President’s Club
-Having no previous medical experience, he broke into the med device industry with Stryker
-After that he decided to cut his teeth in the distributor world. He was the #1 Vegas Sales Rep at Access Orthopedics in 2008, 2009, and 2010 and incrementally grew his territory by 20% in 2009 and 25% in 2010
-Angelo also began his own distributorship in 2007 where he: Grew his sales from $590,000 in 2007 to $3.5 million in 2019 – 12 straight years of incremental growth
It doesn’t stop there – Angelo was a full line territory manager for both Men’s and Women’s Health at Boston Scientific. Angelo won President’s Club in 2012 and continued to move up the ranks being promoted 2 times. While in these roles Angelo was involved in many additional internal roles such as being a field sales trainer, a regional team leader, sat on the sales leadership council, was part of the peer mentor program all while consistently meeting and exceeding quota throughout this time.
Currently, Angelo is the Director of Sales and Distribution at Contura. He started out as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Arizona. He then became the Director of Athletic training and Assistant professor at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA. Shortly after taking a role as a Sports Medicine Instructor at the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine, he started working at TOSA Medical, a Medical Sales Distributorship representing Orthofix, Exactech, Arthrosurface, etc. Three years later, he moved to Arizona and worked at Arthrex in Orthopedic Surgical Sales for 4+ years. Eventually after his non-compete was up, he transitioned to a role in Orthopedic Surgical Sales at Smith and Nephew in Arizona. He has been there for 5+ years. For those currently in medical sales or right about to break in, this episode will be an incredible listen to start you out on the right foot! We discover the importance of using the "sniper" approach rather then the "shotgun" approach to find your first medical sales job. This also translates to when you are targeting a surgeon in your territory. We also learn about uncovering a surgeon's "why." Throwing brochures with features and benefits at a surgeon is not enough in this arena.
