The Football Huddle

Ireland's premiere football podcast, The Football Huddle, is where Colm Ahern, Andrew Knowles, Dan Murphy, John O' Sullivan and Stephen Twomey put their heads together and attempt to deconstruct the beautiful game, pass by pass. They might fail while doing so, but at least you can chuckle at their ineptness.

Balls on Film Episode #01: She's The Man

On the first-ever episode of Balls on Film, Colm Ahern and Andrew Knowles turn their attention to one of Amanda Bynes' last ever movies, She's The Man. Released in 2006, She's The Man tells the story of a girl who poses as her brother in order to get on the school soccer team... except it's not her school's soccer team. It's her brother's school soccer team. Just listen to the episode and let us explain. Sure, it's a teen comedy based on William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, but it's also a film designed to address gender norms and inequalities. It does it well. Sometimes. Then, other times, it shows itself as a movie made fifteen years ago. While a Puskas Award level goal is scored in the film, there are a couple of inaccuracies in the portrayal of the sport. Namely the fact that the referee refuses to carry his cards with him. Very silly.  Watch She's The Man before you listen to the podcast Prime Video: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shes-Man-Amanda-Bynes/dp/B0849VKGYP Apple: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/movie/shes-the-man/id1495600973 Email us and let us know your thoughts on the movie ballsonfilm@gmail.com Subscribe to Balls on Film and never miss an episode RSS feed: https://feed.podbean.com/ballsonfilm/feed.xml Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/balls-on-film-a-sports-movie-podcast/id1507617262 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3kbFuLRfB5DHg1OYkig0na Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/balls-on-film-a-sports-movie-podcast TuneIn: https://tunein.com/podcasts/Sports--Recreation-Podcasts/Balls-on-Film-A-Sports-Movie-Podcast-p1314857/ Watch The Longest Yard before you listen to our next podcast Netflix: https://www.netflix.com/title/70021637 NowTV: https://www.nowtv.com/watch/the-longest-yard-2005/9911377008292610VgnVCM1000000b43150a____ Listen to every single episode of Balls on Film! ballsonfilm.podbean.com Follow Balls on Film on social media Twitter: https://twitter.com/BallsOnFilm Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BallsOnFilm/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/BallsOnFilm/

Introducing Balls on Film: A Sports Movie Podcast

We're baaaaaaaaaaack! Balls on Film is a podcast about movies about sport. If that’s something you’re interested in, then, make sure you join Colm Ahern and Andrew Knowles -- who you may know from The Football Huddle -- every second week as they review some of the best (and some of the worst) sports movies around. From the greatness of Any Given Sunday to the shoddiness of Semi-Pro, they’ll dissect the performances, themes, and each movie’s depiction of sport. In our first episode we’ll be reviewing 2006’s football-themed teen romcom, She’s The Man. Watch She's The Man before you listen to our first podcast! #200: Liverpool, Champions League Winners 2018-19

A dodgy penalty and a Divock Origi strike help Liverpool to Champions League glory, in a horrible final against Spurs, in Madrid. Does that quality matter, though? And where does Poch go from here? As well as that, we look at Eden Hazard's performance in Chelsea's 4-1 win over Arsenal in the Europa League final, and whether Sarri is out the door. Thank you for getting your friends on board to listen to Colm, Andrew, Dan, Stephen, and Sully over the last 200 episodes of The Football Huddle. You're all wonderful people. #199: Premier League 2018-19 Season Review

The Premier League is over and that means it's time for The Football Huddle to dissect the season's events. Man City are Premier League champions; Liverpool narrowly miss out on glory after heroics from Van Dijk and co; did Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Man United have good seasons or not? Huddersfield, Cardiff City and Fulham are relegated; was Xherdan Shaqiri the signing of the season? Did West Ham flop? Did Angus Gunn surprise? We attempt to answer all these questions and more. And it's time for the final Win, Lose or Draw. You already know how it turned out, don't you? Get your friends on board and listen to Colm, Andrew and Dan every week. #198: Back and 4th

Liverpool cut it fine, but a Divock Origi late winner against Newcastle saw them jump Man City (at least until they play Leicester). Crystal Palace prove too much for Warnock and Cardiff as they'll be playing in The Championship next year. And Spurs and Chelsea have ended up in the top four, but we're not sure anyone knows how. Paul Merson's Marvellous Misadventures features Bielsa on spygate 2.0, and Eden Hazard in a car. And Win, Lose or Draw sees Colm pick up an important win as we near the end of the season. #197: Time Fades Olé

Man United draw 1-1 with Chelsea as no team in England wants 4th place, Liverpool and Man City keep piling pressure on each other as we near the end of the league season, and the PFA Team of the Year is basically alright. As well as that, we look at controversy in The Championship that saw Leeds give Aston Villa a goal, and bounce around Europe to see PSG whimper their way to a title. Paul Merson's Marvellous Misadventures features Roy Keane in a studio, Ray Houghton in a car, and Spanish football clubs on Twitter. And Win, Lose or Draw is looking tasty as bums begin to squeak. #196: A Mo-brainer

Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-0 thanks to a Mo Salah goal of the season contender, Manchester City overpowered Crystal Palace 3-1 to continue putting pressure on their championship rivals, and Brighton are in a real relegation fight after losing 5-0 to Bournemouth. Paul Merson's Marvellous Misadventures features Shay Given's dinner, too many standers, and a QR tattoo. And Win, Lose or Draw, again, doesn't change. Whatsoever. We need to get better at this predicting lark. Still. Again. Get your friends on board and listen to Colm, Andrew and Dan every week. Man City saw off Brighton with ease in their semi-final, whilst Troy Deeney and Watford had to go the extra mile against Wolves. In the Premier League, Liverpool were able to grind out yet another victory with some late goals against Southampton. #194: Lloris Brutality

Allison didn't have the best game, but that didn't matter as Hugo Lloris stole the show for the wrong reasons as Liverpool beat Spurs 2-1 with a late winner; Cardiff City didn't get the decisions against Chelsea and Neil Warnock got cross; and Watford come close to raining on Ole's full-time employment parade. Paul Merson's Marvellous Misadventures features the pope, and even more Colin Wanker. And Win, Lose or Draw, again, doesn't change. Whatsoever. We need to get better at this predicting lark.
