Rank #2: Dolly Parton Joins For King & Country For A Collaboration Of 'God Only Knows'

Podcast cover
Read more
When Dolly Parton first heard Grammy-winning duo for KING & COUNTRY’s “God Only Knows,” she said it “touched her so deep.”

“It was like God spoke,” Parton said. “I thought so many people with all their problems … I just felt like this song touched everything people struggle with. There’s just such a peace and love and sweetness about it, and I really think this song says what we need to be hearing right now.”

Parton joined the duo – comprised of brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone – for a remix of “God Only Knows” and a new music video. Both will be available at 11 p.m. CT Thursday. The video will premier on YouTube and the song will be on all music streaming services.

“Hearing her sing that chorus and those words, it’s a little bit out-of-body as both artists and writers,” Joel Smallbone said. “It’s that rare moment when you’re like, ‘That’s always how it was meant to be.’ It’s pretty remarkable.”

Rank #11: 5 Things Your Kids Should Know By The Time They Are Teenagers

Podcast cover

When you have a baby, your whole world changes. It starts with a lack of sleep, diaper changes, and of course, the most selfless kind of love there is. You want to do everything for this little human—from bathing them to feeding them and even wiping their you know what. But at some point, all of that stops. Okay, well some of that stops. While that might seem obvious, there are some less-obvious things that some parents have a hard time quitting, even after their child turns 13 (the unofficial beginning of adolescence). While there’s nothing wrong with wanting to help them out in life, there’s a point where certain basic day-to-day things need to stop. Unless you want them to grow up and not know how to do these things without the help, experts say to get into the habit of stopping them now. So how do you know what kids should be able to do on their own when they’re a teen? Here are the things you should probably stop doing.

Rank #13: One Christian Author Says It's Time To Stop Being So Nice

“Niceness” is a form of superficial kindness that’s used as a means to a selfish end. I identify it as an idol in my life because I have served it tirelessly, and it has served me well in return. My devotion to it has won me a lot of acceptance and praise, but it has also inhibited my courage, fed my self-righteousness, encouraged my inauthenticity, and produced in me a flimsy sweetness that easily gives way to disdain.

Rank #14: We Walk By Faith, Not Feelings

Podcast cover
Read more
A fourteen-year-old boy was in a terrible accident this past May, leaving him paralyzed. His father, who I've come know through 90.9 KCBI FM and Facebook, shared this morning that he is not feeling as prayerful as he did in the earlier months.

Maybe you've been there. Maybe you have prayed for something--healing, deliverance, reconciliation--for so long that you feel like your prayers are futile. Can I encourage you today? God's ability to work powerfully in your life has nothing to do with whether or not you "feel it." You will go through periods where you run out of words, but the Spirit takes your wordless heart groans, carries them to the throne of God, and sets them before the Father as incense (Rom 8:26, 27; Ps. 141:1-2).

Not only that, but Jesus, the author and perfector of your faith, sits at the right hand of the Father interceding for you, for it is what he lives to do (Heb. 7:25). I've said it a million times and I'll say it a million more: we walk by faith, not feelings. You are kept; you are held. And if you need prayer today, let me know in the comments. You don't have to tell me why: the Spirit already knows. It's my joy and my honor today to lift you up before your Heavenly Father.

Rank #16: Is Love A Noun Or A Verb?

Podcast cover
Read more
When you think of God's love, what comes to mind? If you're anything like the majority of us, you think of warm feelings and fond affections. That's not how God loves; that's how we love.
God's love is nothing like ours. When we think of love, we think of it as a noun, a thing, a feeling. Our love waxes and wanes like the tide, shrinking and swelling according to the loved one's behavior toward us.

Notice this verse: "Yet the LORD set his affection on your ancestors and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations--as it is today." - Dueteronomy 10:15

The Lord "set his affection" on his people. In God's economy, love is a verb, an action. He loves with a joy-filled determination that has nothing--nothing--to do with how the loved one behaves or whether or not they love him back. Our love is unstable, God's love is steadfast, stubbornly refusing to back down. He pursues to the end, patiently, persistently, passionately.
Why is this good news? Because there is nothing about you and me that makes us lovable to God. There was nothing about Israel that would cause God to choose them. God didn't choose Israel because of what they did, he chose them in spite of what they did. God didn't set his affection on them because of who they were, he set his affection on them in spite of who they were.

In the same way, friend, God didn't choose you because of what you do, or did, or are doing, he chose you in spite of what you do. God doesn't love you because of who you are, he loves you in spite of who you are.
