That’s you ED PETERSON TESLA FSD EARLY ADOPTERS GET AUTOPILOT CAMERA UPGRADE INVITES - Tesla has started sending out Autopilot Camera Upgrade invites to Model S and Model X owners who purchased Full Self-Driving when it was initially launched years ago. As per the communication, Tesla is now poised to start camera retrofits for its older cars, which would allow Model S and Model X vehicles with FSD to access the full suite of features currently offered by the company. - A screenshot of the communication has been shared online, and it reads as follows: “As an owner with Full Self-Driving Capability and early production cameras, you are eligible for complimentary Autopilot Camera Upgrade. Camera replacements are required to access a continuously expanding suite of Full Self-Driving Capability features. To arrange your complimentary camera replacements, schedule a new appointment from the Service menu in your Tesla App,” the message read. - Tesla also updated its official webpage for its Full Self-Driving Computer Installations. A new section titled “Camera Replacements” has now been added to the page. The section outlines which customers are eligible for the retrofit, when the service will be available, which camera units will be replaced, how long the hardware update would take, and how early FSD adopters could schedule an appointment for the Autopilot Camera Upgrade. The first pre-series vehicles of the ID.4 are already being produced in the body shop, the paint shop and soon in assembly. Volume production is scheduled to start in spring 2022. - the final decision to build MEB vehicles in Emden from 2022 onwards was taken in summer 2019. The conversion work started in July 2020 – parallel to the production of the Passat. In May, VW announced that the conversion work was still on schedule. - The ID.4 is to be built in Emden first, followed by two more MEB models from 2023 – a Passat-sized saloon and the accompanying estate. According to VW, a total of six additional production halls and logistics buildings will have been built on the 4,300,000 square metre factory site by then. And now that day has come, as the bike begins serial production at the company’s Berlin Motorrad plant. The CE 04 falls somewhere between a maxiscooter and a light electric motorcycle. The peak-rated 31 kW (42 hp) frame-mounted electric motor puts it in the same power class as several electric motorcycles from leading manufacturers. - Pushed to the max, the CE 04 is rated for a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). - The internal battery in the higher spec model provides 8.9 kWh of capacity and is rated for up to 130 km (81 miles) of range. - the CE 04 will start at USD $11,795. Yet of the retail reservation-holders in that crowd, a recent survey suggested that nearly 80% have never owned a battery electric vehicle before. - Ford is launching an augmented reality (AR) experience that it says “will offer these knowledge-hungry customers an immersive, informative experience on the all-new F-150 Lightning.” - it’s powered by Google Cloud and takes the form of thirteen interactive animations about everything from the frunk and battery range to charging—and the ProPower Onboard power takeoff plus, perhaps, the Lightning’s potential as home power backup. Visitors also have the ability to select a color and trim—base, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum—for the truck and place it “anywhere in their own environment,” - Ford also says that its survey results suggest that 56% of F-150 Lightning reservation-holders haven’t ever owned a Ford vehicle.  Original Source : https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1134108_most-f-150-lightning-intenders-are-ev-newbies-so-ford-is-helping-them-get-ready-with-ar GAC AION MODEL FIRST IN CHINA  WITH 1,000 KM RANGE - Longer range is the quest of electric vehicle (EV) companies, and now GAC Aion brings the competition to 1,000 kilometers. The Aion LX Plus from GAC's new energy vehicle subsidiary recently made it to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) product announcement in China with a 144.4 kWh battery pack, an energy density of 205 Wh/kg, and an impressive NEDC range of 1,008 km. - Entering the MIIT product announcement is the last major regulatory process for a model to become available in China, meaning local consumers are only a few months away from having an EV with a range of over 1,000 km. - The Aion LX Plus is an upgraded version of the currently available Aion LX, with a length, width and height of 4,835/1,935/1,658mm, a permanent magnet synchronous motor with 180 kW of power and a top speed of 170 km/h. - The Aion LX Plus is expected to be unveiled during the Guangzhou Auto Show on November 19, and its price information is currently unknown. For reference, the price range of the Aion LX is RMB 229,600 ($35,900) -349,600. With this system, the driver of the electric vehicle simply drives into the station for the swap, and leaves the station without having to exit their vehicle. - Battery swapping will be for selected vehicle platforms in the Geely product line, and currently will not include models built on the SEA (Sustainable Experience Arhcitecture) platform as they have been designed with integrated battery technology with the aim of producing the lightest vehicle architecture possible. And also welcome BRIAN D ANDERSON. Plus a new Executive Producer BILL CALHOUN. Thank you so much. NEW LOTUS TYPE 132 SUV PREVIEWED IN OFFICIAL IMAGE - Lotus has given a first look at its maiden SUV, which is codenamed the Type 132 and due to be revealed in full next year. - As first reported by Autocar, the Type 132 has been in development since 2016 and is set to launch with two four-wheel-drive variants, offering between 600bhp and 750bhp. It will be able to accommodate batteries ranging from 92-120kWh in capacity and will offer 800V charging. - The Norfolk firm has released the first in a series of official videos that will build up to the launch of the new Aston Martin DBX rival, which will be a key element of its bold growth strategy under the ownership of Chinese car giant Geely. - The Type 132 will be built at a new £900 million manufacturing facility in Wuhan, China, and will be one of two Chinese-built EVs the firm will launch in the next five years. They are looking to secure an edge with next-generation batteries in a price war with Chinese battery companies. - The key is competition with Chinese battery companies. China’s CATL, the world's largest battery company, is building a battery plant in Germany for commercial operation from 2022. CATL produces prismatic batteries and is expected to focus on expanding orders from Volkswagen. In March, Volkswagen announced that it would increase the proportion of prismatic batteries to 80 percent by 2030. - Samsung SDI and CATL will compete fiercely in the prismatic battery sector. Samsung SDI is betting on Gen. 5, a next-generation prismatic battery to be used for BMW electric vehicles. - Major European automakers such as Daimler, BMW and Volkswagen are placing battery orders worth tens of trillion won to secure batteries for their vehicles to be launched after 2024. Original Source : http://www.businesskorea.co.kr/news/articleView.html BMW I7 REPORTEDLY GETTING THREE ELECTRIC MOTORS SHARED WITH I5 M - It was back in March last year when BMW originally announced there would be a fully electric version of the next-generation 7 Series. - CEO Oliver Zipse revealed during the Annual Accounts Press Conference 2020 the variant without a combustion engine would be the most potent. - Likely to be called i7, the 7 Series sans gasoline/diesel engine is said to have three electric motors in its highest specification. According to Auto Motor und Sport, two of them will be mounted at the back and the third one will be positioned on the front axle. The report mentions the e-motor driving the front wheels will have less power. - the same three-motor setup could be installed in a full-fat M version of the next 5 Series in EV form (i5) with a yet-to-be-confirmed total output of 750 horsepower. - It won’t ride on a dedicated electric car platform as it will share its underpinnings and most of the design as well as shape with the combustion-engined models. For a bespoke EV from Bavaria, 2025 will be the year when the Neue Klasse architecture will debut. Thanks to an outstanding, two-part presentation and teardown conducted by Ingineerix, we can take an in-depth look at this new solution, hinted at in early 2021 by Elon Musk and shown only briefly at the delivery event. - previously Tesla was using in the Model S/Model X a 12 V, 33 Ah lead-acid AGM battery. It stores about 0.4 kWh of energy, but weight is quite substantial: 27 lbs (12 kg). According to Ingineerix, such batteries last in Teslas about 2-4 years, which is pretty low and sometimes causes unexpected problems if the car stops working. - The new,lithium-ion battery is much smaller and much lighter (only about 4 lbs / 1.8 kg). That's because it's much higher energy density, but also has a lower energy content. We assume that with a more reliable and "smart" solution, there is no need for 0.4 kWh. The battery has only a 0.1 kWh of energy (99 Wh to be precise) and a capacity of 6.9 Ah, according to the description. - the new battery consists of a BMS circuit board made by CATL and four prismatic NMC lithium-ion battery cells (6.9 Ah each), connected in series. During an interview on “Squawk on the Street,” CNBC’s Jim Cramer asked about PepsiCo’s plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. - “Transportation is about 10% of our overall gas emissions so it’s important and we’re working on different solutions. We replace our fleet regularly, every ten years more or less...and we’re already starting to buy electric trucks actually from Tesla. I mean I don’t want to promote anybody but that’s the brand we’re using so far and we’re getting our first deliveries this Q4.” - The comments come almost four years after PepsiCo first announced it would purchase 100 Tesla Semi trucks. It was the largest known pre-order of the vehicle at the time. - On the company’s Q2 earnings call in July, Tesla said it was pushing the Semi program to 2022 due to supply chain challenges and the limited availability of battery cells. APPLE HIRES TESLA’S AUTOPILOT SOFTWARE DIRECTOR FOR CAR EFFORT - Apple Inc., bolstering its car-development efforts, hired a former engineer from Tesla Inc. who drew controversy this year for remarks about that company’s Autopilot feature. - The iPhone maker tapped Christopher “CJ” Moore for its team working on a self-driving car, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Moore is working on the effort’s software, reporting to Stuart Bowers, another former Tesla executive who joined Apple at the end of last year. Bowers had led Tesla’s Autopilot team before departing in mid-2019. - At Tesla, Moore implied that Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk had overstated the capabilities of the Autopilot software. Earlier this year, California Department of Motor Vehicles officials interviewed Moore as part of investigations into the self-driving software. The department asked Moore about Musk claiming that Teslas would be capable of fully autonomous driving this year. - Moore signaled in response that Musk’s statements didn’t “match engineering reality,” according to a DMV memo summarizing the conversation. Many are speculating that these are the new factory wraps that the automaker has been talking about. - Recently, Tesla has been teasing new colors that are enabled by its paint shop at its Gigafactory in Berlin. However, the company has been talking about another way to get new colors on the vehicles too - Tesla announced that it would be offering wraps in China on its Weibo account. While the company made the announcement last year, there has been no confirmed example of wraps from them. - For the first time, Tesla has been spotted manufacturing new vehicles out of its Gigafactory in Shanghai, and the colors are all new. The images were captured by a drone used by reporter Jason Yang. - Some of the colors include turquoise, pink, and light blue. The car maker has added a Cloud Profiles section in its latest software release, which points to an "Enable Vehicle Sync" option for backing up driver profiles - cloud profiles could also make it easier to synchronize settings across multiple vehicles. According to Tesla Software Updates, synced settings include your display brightness, Autopilot and navigation options. It'd also be helpful to have your Stopping Mode synchronized, as that seriously changes how Tesla's braking functions. The facility will be the first branded Tesla Canada manufacturing facility in Canada and will produce state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment to be used at the Gigafactories located around the world in the production of batteries. - In 2019, Tesla acquired Ontario-based Hibar Systems, a manufacturing equipment company that makes machines used in battery cell production. Before Tesla took over, the company was based in Richmond Hill, Ontario, which is only a few minutes from Markham, where the new facility is going to be. It sounds like Tesla might be expanding the team into a bigger facility in the next town over in the suburbs of Toronto. It boasts a top speed of 98 mph and a range of 68-89 miles, depending on riding style. The proprietary Z-Force 75-5 powerplant cranks out 46 hp and 78 lb-ft of torque. All of this is plenty to make the S a capable commuter and street bike, and the fuel savings should soften the $11,195 price tag. - Get Off The Road: Zero DS For about another $2500 you can add dual-sport drive and move up to the DS model. You’ll get the same motor as the S, but the added grip (and added fun) two-wheel drive provides will cost you a few miles in range. - The Dual-Sport Monster: Zero DSR - For $15,695 you can bring home a Zero DSR and its Z-Force 75-7 motor, providing a whopping 70 hp and 102 mph top speed. The DSR also includes a mammoth 16.5 kWh battery (nearly twice the size of that in the S and DS), giving the the newest model a Tesla-like 163-mile range under mixed driving conditions. In both cases, the usable battery capacity is 107.8 kWh (the total value is not disclosed by the manufacturer). - Overall, the efficiency is very good, but not as good as in the Lucid Air or Tesla Model S. Unlike Seinfeld, Curb isn’t a typical sitcom, but more of an improvisational cinema verité-like comedy that follows Larry in his life as a somewhat retired yet very successful writer and producer - Initially, he drove a Lexus GS 400, which he traded in for a first-generation Toyota Prius in season 2 of the show. Larry then drives newer versions of the popular Toyota-badged hybrid in following seasons, before making the switch to a BMW i3 for seasons 9 and 10. Now, with season 11 officially underway, it seems Larry has abandoned BMW in favor of rival Audi, as he can be seen driving the new e-tron Sportback crossover, which is of course fully electric. Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday Show 6th November. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. ALFA ROMEO GIULIA IS GOING ELECTRIC - In an interview with Auto Express, Alfa Romeo's CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato revealed a bunch of details about the future of the company and electric vehicles. But the most interesting is that, despite the world's insatiable appetite for SUVs, the Giulia sport sedan will get another generation, and one that's entirely electric. - the car will be built on the STLA Large platform, one of several EV architectures Stellantis announced back July. - the Large platform is said to accept 101-kWh to 118-kWh of battery capacity and up to 500 miles of range. It may also be sharing the platform and development with the future Stelvio, like the current one does with the Giorgio platform. - Stellantis aims to have its 500-mile STLA Large platform cars, among the others, ready for 2024. Odds seem good that the electric Alfas will start showing up at that time, since the brand is planning to be fully electric in 2027. That will make it the first Stellantis brand to be entirely electric. President Biden now only has to sign it into law, effectively freeing $15bn in funding for electric transportation, after he had to make concessions. - Specifically, the trillion-dollar package includes $7.5 billion for expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure nationwide and $7.5 billion for electric buses. However, Biden had to make concessions. For example, for the national network with 500,000 EV charging stations, the compromise has been reached leaves $7.5Bn of the $15Bn Biden had initially envisioned. - For the purchase of electric school and public transport buses, the bipartisan draft now also provides $7.5Bn, instead of the previously wanted $45Bn. Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2021/11/06/us-lawmakers-approve-1tn-infrastructure-bill/ INFRASTRUCTURE BILL: $7.5B TOWARD NATIONWIDE NETWORK OF 500,000 EV CHARGERS - According to a Biden administration fact sheet released Saturday, the legislation will provide funding for long-distance-oriented EV chargers along highway corridors, and for long-distance travel, and for charging options within communities. - The funding is of course just a start; as a candidate, Bernie Sanders proposed $85.6 billion on a national charging network “similar to the gas stations and rest stops we have today.” - The infrastructure bill is potentially just the start of the federal government’s stronger support behind EVs. The second bill contains more of the Build Back Better plan and Biden’s EV vision, including an renewal of the EV tax credit—currently containing a controversial provision boosting union-built EVs—and other money potentially going toward equity, manufacturing, the supply chain, other incentives, and building out charging infrastructure. - That bill faces challenges, although it’s worth noting that the EV tax credit itself, prior to the union riders, had bipartisan support. President Trump reportedly nixed the EV tax credit renewal the last time around. The EV was meant to debut back in 2020, but LA Auto Show organizers canceled the event. A redo of the show meant for May 2021 didn't happen either. Now, the show will go on this month, with the Ocean ready for the spotlight. - As for power, it should come from an 80-kilowatt-hour battery, which Fisker said this week will be supplied by China's CATL. The company will make five gigawatt-hours of production available for the Ocean to churn out battery packs. Magna Steyr will handle final production of the Ocean in Austria, unless something changes. A study of 2,000 UK drivers by Volkswagen Financial Services found 35 percent of those questioned said they would be more likely to go electric thanks to the fuel shortage. - Volkswagen Financial Services survey shows the impact of the shortage on buyers’ intentions, with more than a third saying they are more likely to go electric when they come to change their car. Similarly, 32 percent of Brits say they are likely to buy a second-hand electric vehicle when the time comes to change their car. Original Source : https://uk.motor1.com/news/545208/fuel-shortages-brits-go-electric/ TESLA BUYERS HAVE THE LONGEST LOAN TERMS - Tesla is not only topping the sale charts, but also lending term charts as well. A study done by online lender Lending Tree showed that Tesla buyers are willing to take on a loan of five and a half years to be able to drive one of the EVs. - To get the data, Lending Tree looked at 29,000 auto loans from October 2018 to October 2021. Loans from 30 auto brands spanning everything from Tesla to Ram to Audi were examined. Tesla came out at number one with its buyers averaging 67.1 months on their loan terms. Ram was right behind at 66.3 months. So gas station and travel center operators are strategizing how to cash in on the opportunities that come with drivers plugging in instead of filling up. - They earn more from the food and necessities available at their convenience stores. - Needing to install EV charging throughout these stops across the country is only one part of the equation. Evaluating shifts in consumer behavior that could change these stores' provisions is another. Depending on the type of charging infrastructure — fast charger versus the slower-charging Level 2 plug — it will likely take more time to charge an EV than it takes to fuel up a gas-powered car. Consumers could end up needing more accommodations, and spend more time and money there. RIVIAN PLANS ON DELIVERING 1,000 R1T MODELS BY THE END OF 2021 - Only last week it had been revealed that Rivian's production was going at a snail's pace with it just managing to manufacture two cars per day on an average. But now it is slowly ramping up. As of the end of October, it has produced 180 R1T electric pickup trucks and delivered 156 of them. - Rivian says that production ramp-up will happen in December. By the end of this year, it wants to make a total of 1,135 vehicles. - It wants to make 1,200 R1T models, while it will slowly start production of the R1S SUV and make 25 units of it as well. On top of this, it will even manufacture 10 units of an electric delivery van it has to make for Amazon.  Overall, the plan is to deliver 1,000 R1T models, 15 R1S models,s and all 10 EDV's it makes for Amazon in December itself. - Rivian believes it will have a backlog of orders all the way into 2023 and so far, it seems like production of the current orders alone will take two years to complete. Rivian however also notes that it has the capacity to make 150,000 vehicles annually but this level will be reached only in 2024. After updates, its plant will also be able to handle up to 200,000 vehicles. The electrified GV70 will be produced at Hyundai’s Alabama plant, and will mark the first EV manufactured in the US by the Korean automotive umbrella. With this decision, Hyundai looks to make a larger impact on the growing EV market in the US, and take advantage proposed subsidies for electric vehicles produced on US soil. - According to a report from Business Korea, Hyundai Motor shared its decision to begin US manufacturing with its labor union during a job security committee meeting at its Asan plant in South Korea. - The company is planning to begin manufacturing early next year at its US facility in Montgomery, Alabama. This plant currently manufacturers several different ICE Hyundai models, as well as various combustion engines, but will now shift toward EV manufacturing beginning with the GV70 EV. Each 10 x 22-foot rectangle holds 20 battery packs that once powered Nissan Leafs. But they’ve lost some of their juice. Inside a car, they can no longer power speedy accelerations, and their 85-mile ranges have been reduced to about 55 miles. - But the batteries still work. Research suggests they may retain two-thirds or more of their original capacity. So for the past 18 months, these batteries have been living a second act: storing energy from nearby rows of solar panels. Their owner, B2U Storage Solutions, wants to know how effectively, and for how long, they can do that. - By 2030, retired EV batteries could provide 200 gigawatt-hours of energy storage globally each year, according to analysis from the consulting firm McKinsey—roughly 50 times the annual output of the Hoover Dam. B2U wants to be a part of that. - One question: Who owns the reused batteries, and who’s responsible if something goes wrong? Automakers know they may be blamed if one of their old batteries is involved in a fire. - B2U’s Lancaster project looks promising. The company says its solar panels generate up to 1.65 megawatts of power, while its retired Nissan Leaf batteries can retain 10 megawatt-hours of storage—about as much as the average US home uses in a year. Freeman says the company is profitable, and planning expansions. TESLA GIGA BERLIN SEES DELAY FOR CONSTRUCTION, ELON MUSK SAYS ITS NOT RIGHT - The Tesla Gigafactory Berlin is seeing another delay in its construction as the State Environmental Agency and the Brandenburg Administrative Court re-opens the discussion regarding the plant. Here, Elon Musk said that what they are doing is "not right," especially as the operations and processes in the plant also see a hindrance. - The Tesla CEO has said his side on the issue via his official Twitter page, saying that what the agencies and involved people of authority are doing is "not right." - the State Environmental Agency and the Brandenburg Administrative Court are delaying Giga Berlin's construction and re-opening the discussion regarding its future. The bodies are concerned with the future of the plant, especially the upcoming lawsuits that it would face once operational. - the focus of the concerned authorities is on environmental protection, particularly with the supply of water needed by the surrounding population. Also, there are plenty more environmental reasons that were cited by the committee though these are not yet the full reasons why they hinder Tesla Gigafactory Berlin's construction. Electric vehicles accounted for 70.1 per cent of all new registrations in the month. The most successful model across all drive types was the VW ID.4 with 913 registrations. - The fact that October 2021 is significantly lower than September with its 13,946 new electric car registrations is probably mainly due to Tesla’s delivery practices. - The 8,116 electric cars were joined by 2,226 plug-in hybrids in October, with a market share of 19.2 per cent (down 6.2 per cent from October 2020). In total, 89.3 per cent of all new passenger cars in Norway had an external charging connection in October – in August this figure was 87.7 per cent, in September with the Tesla boost mentioned even 91.2 per cent. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/545115/lucid-air-fast-charging-250kw/ PORSCHE: 100-KILOWATT-HOURS IS THE BATTERY-SIZE SWEET SPOT - What's the optimal size for an electric-vehicle battery pack? Of course, it depends on numerous factors -- and who you ask -- but Porsche engineers believe they've figured it out. - "At the moment, we think 100-kilowatt-hours is the right battery size," said Benjamin Passenberg, manager of high-voltage system concepts at Porsche, while speaking with press during a media event last month. That sounds like an oddly convenient number, but numerous reasons back up this claim. - According to Porsche, more than 95% of motorists travel less than 124 miles per day, so why pay for a gigantic battery pack you don't really need and then have to drag it around everywhere you drive? It doesn't make a lot of sense. - Reinforcing the claim that 100-kWh is just about the right size, in simulated testing, a Porsche Taycan fitted with an 85.1-kWh battery pack lapped the Nürburgring 0.7 second faster than a model fitted with a smaller -- and 240 pound lighter -- 70-kWh battery. Even though the svelter car accelerated a tiny bit quicker, the larger battery provided more sustained performance, which resulted in the slightly faster lap time. BMW'S ELECTRIC VEHICLE SALES SURGE, BUT CHIP SHORTAGE POSES CHALLENGE - The BMW Group’s sales of fully electric vehicles grew by 121.4% in the first nine months of 2021, hitting 59,688 units, with the German carmaker stating Wednesday that electric mobility was “becoming an increasingly vital growth driver and success factor” for the company. - In total, the Munich-headquartered firm sold 231,575 all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles between January and September, a jump of 98.9%. By comparison, in the third quarter of 2021 alone, Elon Musk’s Tesla says it delivered 241,300 vehicles. Original Source : https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/03/bmws-electric-vehicle-sales-surge-but-chip-shortage-poses-challenge.html Original Source : https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/porsche-100-kilowatt-hours-battery-size/ CHEVY BOLT FAMILY SALES DOWN 21 PERCENT DURING Q3 2021 - Chevy Bolt family sales – which include sales of the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV – decreased 20.5 percent in the United States during the third quarter of 2021. - The segment was dominated by the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, which combined for a lofty 81 percent segment share. The Volkswagen ID.4 and Mustang Mach-E followed with 6 percent each, while the Nissan Leaf, Bolt EUV, and Bolt EV all accounted for 2 percent each. - Low sales volumes have typically been an area of concern given GM’s EV-focused strategy, which calls for launching 30 electric vehicles by the year 2025. To that end, Chevy Bolt family sales during Q3 2021 isn’t exactly reassuring, though the numbers aren’t too far off from the Volkswagen ID.4 and Ford Mustang Mach-E. - low Chevy Bolt family sales volume is the result of the ongoing stop sale and recall over battery pack fires. As a result, sales of the Bolt EV and EUV – which both ride on the same GM BEV2 platform and use the same 65 kWh battery pack – have been suspended until the situation is fully resolved, which has not taken place for the third quarter of 2021. VOLKSWAGEN ID.5 ELECTRIC CAR WILL RIVAL TESLA MODEL Y IN 2022 - VOLKSWAGEN has taken the covers off its new ID.5 electric SUV-coupé, which features sleeker styling, a 323-mile range and slightly upgraded tech compared to its ID.4 sibling. Both models could be considered rivals to the Tesla Model Y, which arrives in the UK from early 2022, as well as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 - As the ID.5 is based on the same underpinnings as the recently-launched VW ID.4, the engineering and overall footprint is the same. It’s only in profile and from the rear that the ID.5’s visual differences become apparent; rather than a truncated hatchback rear end, the ID.5’s roofline slopes down towards a rear spoiler atop the boot-lid. - One key difference between the ID.5 and ID.4 is that the former gets just a single (77kWh) battery option. The range is divided into three basic levels when it comes to powertrains — Pro, Pro Performance and GTX. - In Pro and Pro Performance models, a single electric motor drives the rear wheels delivering 172bhp and 201bhp, respectively. At the top of the tree, the GTX gets dual motors, one acting on the front axle and the second on the rear, making it all-wheel drive. Total power output of the GTX is 295bhp, which is enough to propel it from 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds — over a second slower than the Tesla Model Y Long Range and 2.6 seconds slower than the Model Y Performance. Original Source : https://www.driving.co.uk/news/new-cars/2022-volkswagen-id5-details/ Volkswagen ID.5 and ID.5 GTX: price, specs and release data - While the ID.4 can charge at a maximum of 120kW, the ID.5 accepts up to 135kW of power. That means an 80% top-up at a fast-charger takes just 26 minutes, compared to 35 minutes for the ID.4. VW’s other ID. models will soon be able to charge at the higher rate, as the brand is rolling out an update. - Coupe-SUVs command a premium over the boxier models on which they’re based, so you can expect the ID.5 to start from around £47,000. You’ll be able to order the Volkswagen ID.5 in early 2022 and at that point we should have full prices and specifications. Original Source : https://www.carbuyer.co.uk/volkswagen/303582/volkswagen-id5-and-id5-gtx-price-specs-and-release-date VW ID.5 RWD And ID.5 GTX AWD Electric Crossover Coupes Are Here - Customers who will opt for the ID.5 GTX will need to settle for a lower estimated range of 480 km (298 miles) compared to the RWD models, but the performance gains and all-weather capability appear worth the upgrade.  The ID.5 GTX also features some subtle design upgrades over the regular ID.5, including sportier bumpers (with integrated DRLs at the front), IQ.Light LED matrix headlights, LED taillight clusters with a 3D design, dual-tone paints, and  a performance-themed cockpit. - The VW ID.5 and ID.5 GTX will launch in Europe in early 2022, but the automaker said nothing of a US debut. However, the dual-motor AWD powertrain of the ID.5 GTX is already available stateside in the ID.4 AWD Pro and Pro S. Original Source : https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/exclusive-volkswagen-mediation-committee-discuss-future-ceo-diess-sources-2021-11-03/ WORKS COUNCIL CONFLICT AT VW CONTINUES TO ESCALATE - Until the mediation committee reaches a result – possibly by the beginning of December – important decisions in the operative business will be suspended. These include investments that have not yet been approved. For this reason, some insiders say that the company is currently “blocked”. - Herbert Diess wants to continue to focus the company on electromobility and, for example, strengthen in-house software development. In addition, the plants are to become more efficient – the conflict with the works council recently escalated at the main plant in Wolfsburg. The works council did not oppose the change to electromobility, but rather the way Diess is pushing his course. - As reported, a compromise had emerged that Wolfsburg could receive the overflow production of the ID.3 and ID.4 from Zwickau – and would thus enter electric car production before the electric vehicle flagship announced for 2026. The so-called planning round, in which Volkswagen distributes models among the worldwide plants (and thus influences their capacity utilisation) had to be postponed most recently from mid-November to December. 1265: Rivian targets $53bn valuation IPO | 02 Nov 2021

Show #1265 If you get any value from this podcast please consider supporting my work on Patreon. Plus all Patreon supporters get their own unique ad-free podcast feed. Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 2nd November. RIVIAN TARGETS $53BN VALUATION IPO - Rivian, the electric automotive company backed by Amazon, is targeting a valuation as high as $53bn when it makes its debut on the Nasdaq, potentially as soon as next week. At the top end of its range of $57-$62 a share, Rivian would begin trading at a value higher than the likes of carmakers Kia and Nissan, and would raise just less than $8.4bn from the offering. - Amazon ranked as Rivian’s largest outside shareholder, with a 22.4 per cent stake. - The market debut would also result in a windfall for founder RJ Scaringe, which owns more than 17.6m shares that would be worth a total of $1.1bn at the top of the price range. Original Source : https://www.ft.com/content/e123d71e-8644-410c-9b4e-69a25914d867 - Rivian Automotive Inc, which is backed by Amazon.com Inc, is targeting a valuation of more than $53 billion for its U.S. debut, making the electric vehicle manufacturer potentially almost as valuable as rival Honda Motor. The startup is looking to raise up to $8.4 billion, setting it up to be the third-largest initial public offering (IPO) by funds raised in the past decade in the United States. - While Rivian has yet to sell any significant volume of its electric vans or trucks, it could likely be valued higher than Ferrari, although less than Honda, General Motors or its backer Ford Motor Co. Original Source : https://uk.news.yahoo.com/ev-startup-rivian-backed-amazon-205736630.html - Rivian is filling a spot in the EV market that no other company has yet filled: off-road vehicles such as trucks and SUVs. This gives the company an advantage over giants like Tesla, Ford and General Motors, who have announced plans for electric truck development but haven’t yet released a product. - None of Rivian’s financial information such as revenue or profit is yet available for investors to view and it will only be released with the S1 filing when the company is about to IPO. This means that investors often have to decide quickly whether they want to trade on the IPO date. Original Source : https://www.cmcmarkets.com/en-gb/ipo/rivian-ipo - Rivian first published its papers to go public in August, then aiming for a valuation of around $70 billion. Rivian has lost $2 billion since the start of last year, underscoring the costs and risks of developing electric vehicles. It expects to spend roughly $8 billion on facilities and equipment through the end of 2023. However, responding to a tweet about the blockbuster rally, Musk said Monday evening, “If any of this is based on Hertz, I’d like to emphasize that no contract has been signed yet.” - Musk’s dose of cold water on the deal sent Tesla stock down over 5 percent to $1,147.64 by 6:30 a.m. ET Tuesday. The stock’s still up more than 12 percent since the announcement of the Hertz deal. - a Hertz spokeswoman, insisted in a statement, “Deliveries of the Teslas already have started. As we announced last week, Hertz has made an initial order of 100,000 Tesla electric vehicles and is investing in new EV charging infrastructure across the company’s global operations,” Original Source: https://nypost.com/2021/11/02/tesla-stock-falls-after-elon-musk-says-hertz-sale-isnt-yet-done-deal/ TESLA INCREASES MODEL 3 AND MODEL Y RANGES WITH 2022 MODEL YEAR - Tesla has updated Model 3 and Model Y line with the 2022 model year specs, and most of the configurations got higher range – though it depends on the wheels. - In an overnight update to its online configurator, Tesla changed the ranges of several of its most popular Model 3 and Model Y trims. - For the Model 3 Standard Range Plus, the range went from 262 to 272 miles on a single charge - Now it only refers to it as “Rear-Wheel Drive” and the different battery packs are only differentiated by the Model 3 Dual Motor also being called “Long Range.” - Model 3 Long Range, it goes from 353 to 358 miles with the 18″ wheels. - Model Y Long Range also got a bump. It went from 326 to 330 miles of range: Original Source : https://electrek.co/2021/11/01/tesla-increases-model-3-y-ranges-2022-model-year TESLA STARTS SELLING HOME CHARGER THAT WORKS WITH OTHER EVS - Tesla has launched a new at-home wall charger that works with other electric vehicles - The new Level 2 wall charger was quietly added to the company’s online store on the same day it started allowing non-Tesla EVs to charge at Supercharger stations in the Netherlands — the first step in a much larger plan to open up access to Tesla’s charging network around the world. - The new charger uses a standard J1772 connector, not Tesla’s proprietary one, meaning it should work fine with other electric vehicles in North America. It’s competitively priced, too, at $415 - Tesla says it can charge at up to 9.6kW and is designed for both indoor or outdoor installation. It’s basically a reworked version of the “Gen 2” Tesla home charger, though, meaning it won’t have some of the more advanced features (like Wi-Fi) found on the Gen 3 version Tesla currently sells to its owners. NON-TESLA SUPERCHARGER PILOT GOES LIVE IN NETHERLANDS - Today we are launching our Non-Tesla Supercharger pilot at 10 Supercharger locations in the Netherlands. - With this pilot, 10 stations are now accessible to Dutch Non-Tesla EV drivers via the Tesla app - More customers using the Supercharger network enables faster expansion. Our goal is to learn and iterate quickly, while continuing to aggressively expand the network, so we can eventually welcome both Tesla and Non-Tesla drivers at every Supercharger worldwide. - We’re starting with a select number of sites so that we can review the experience, monitor congestion and assess feedback before expanding. Future sites will only be opened to Non-Tesla vehicles if there is available capacity. - As a Tesla driver you benefit from the seamless integration of charge post and vehicle, optimized route planning and battery pre-conditioning. With your Tesla, you’ll also have access to the lowest Supercharger pricing. - Download the Tesla app (version 4.2.3 or higher) for iOS or Android and create a Tesla Account. Select 'Charge Your Non-Tesla' and find your Supercharger site. Add your payment method, plug-in your car, select a stall and tap 'Start Charging.'  Select 'Stop Charging' to complete your session. - Pricing for Non-Tesla drivers reflects additional costs incurred to support charging a broad range of vehicles and adjustments to our sites to accommodate these vehicles. Rates vary by site, and you can view charging prices in the Tesla app. The per kWh price to charge can be lowered with a charging membership. - Certain Supercharger site layouts may not be suitable for some cars. Please do not obstruct other cars by parking over the lines if the cable cannot comfortably reach your car. When member BahamaTodd updated his MyChevrolet app to version 5.7.0, he clicked through to the Energy Assist page and found three GM electric vehicles listed, plus their estimated range figures on a 100% charge. One was the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt, rated for 259 miles, the second was the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV, rated for 247 miles. The third was an unexpected entry, being the 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickup, listed as able to go 334 miles on a full charge. - The figures for both Bolts are the official EPA estimates. The mileage figure for the Hummer is a mystery, as is why it's popped up here in the MyChevrolet app instead of the MyGMC app. The EPA hasn't certified the 2022 Hummer yet, so that's not the source. - With pre-production of the Edition 1 slated to begin at GM's Factory Zero any day now, answers shouldn't be long in coming. As we can see in the video shared by Len Devanna, Head of Digital Experience at Lucid (and re-uploaded on YouTube), about 20 Lucid Airs departed for a Lucid Rally. - Lucid will deliver 520 Dream Edition cars (in two specs - Range or Performance). Then, the less expensive Air Grand Touring, Air Touring and Air will follow. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/544466/lucid-air-dream-edition-rally/ LUCID AIR SPECS REVEALED: 118 KWH DREAM PACK, 112 KWH GRAND TOURING - The limited Dream Edition version is equipped with a 118 kWh battery pack, featuring 22 modules totaling 6,600 cylindrical cells - The Grand Touring version has about a 6 kWh smaller battery - 112 kWh - We believe that those cells are supplied by Samsung SDI, Lucid's first supplier, announced in December 2016 (see the original press release here). In 2020, the company announced that the battery cells for "standard version" cars will be supplied by LG Chem's LG Energy Solution. - One of the Lucid's key elements is the 900 V battery architecture, which allows for increased efficiency. It also makes it easier to deliver up to around 300 kW of charging power, which allows it to take just about 20 minutes to replenish 300 miles of range. - The Lucid Air is the first high-end model that is expected to be sold in quite significant volumes, starting with 20,000 in 2022. In the 2023, it should be joined by an even higher-volume, large SUV - "Gravity." By 2025, both should be sold at over 120,000 per year (including 42,000 Air and 86,000 Gravity). - EPA range: Grand Touring (19") - 516 miles (830 km), Grand Touring (21") - 469 miles (755 km) - 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) timeDream Edition Performance (19") - 3.3 seconds Dream Edition Performance (21") - 3.0 seconds Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/544455/lucid-air-118kwh-battery-112kwh/ NEW LONGER-RANGE MG ZS EV GOES ON SALE - Priced from £28,495 (incl. PiCG), the renewed model is available with a larger 72kWh Long Range battery, delivering up to 273 miles of range. That’s a substantial increase over the outgoing model, which has a combined range of 163 miles. It comes with an onboard AC charger that enables up to 7kW fast charging or up to 76kW DC rapid charging, giving a 0-100% charge in as little as 42 minutes. - The updated MG ZS EV also features Vehicle-to-Load capability now as standard, enabling drivers to charge or power other external equipment, for example, an electric bike, using an accessory charging cable. - all models come with the new MG iSmart connectivity system, which offers connection via a smartphone app and enables a wide array of vehicle functions to be monitored remotely, including vehicle status and battery charge level. Drivers can stop and start charging, remotely lock and unlock the car, set the air conditioning and heating, and activate the windscreen demister. - The entry-level SE comes with auto air con, bi-function LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and push-button start, vehicle-to-load charging and 360-degree parking camera. - Trophy model, priced at £30,995 (incl. QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM How many of the podcast listeners have changed their electricity tariff after buying an electric vehicle? And how many of your regularly change electricity to get the best deal, if that’s possible where you live? How much interest do you take in your electricity supply? RAJEEV NARAYAN Owning an EV has made me much more aware of my cost of electricity and it’s carbon intensity. If I had the option to shop different electric tariffs I would, but here in San Antonio, it’s not really an option. You did report some time ago on a Shell subsidiary that was providing a tariff charging GM vehicles for free in the evening here in Texas, called MP2 Energy LLC, but so far I have not been able to reach anyone at the company. Fortunately electricity is fairly cheap here- we pay only about 9 to 11 c/ kWh, for now anyway. As a result more than cost I have been interested in how clean my electricity is. So I know have 8.1 kW of rooftop PV and 17.52 kW of community solar. The two systems offset all my driving and most of my home electricity usage as well.  BRIAN SMITH I’m an Australian who has lived in Florida for twenty years. Our power costs here are a flat 11-12 cents per kWh, all day and night.  EVs are pretty common in my area but are mostly Teslas. Our power companies are licensed monopolies and their prices al have to be approved by an oversight board. I suspect power prices will always remain flat like this: the first person to suggest making power cost more during the day and less at night will be accused of trying to kill old people by cutting off their air conditioners!  Being Florida it is hot and humid most of the year and without A/C our houses would be very uncomfortable if not downright dangerous. With so many senior citizens in the state I don't think anybody is going to suggest having variable power prices, so we'll just keep paying a flat fee, day and night. There's is one small price difference, which I almost forgot. Your first 1000 kwh cost about 8-9 cents each, anything over that costs 13-ish, I think. It averages out around 11-12 for a typical house. My house, about 2200 sq ft with the a/c set to 75 degrees all day/night, eats around 1400 kwh per month, and about two thirds of that is for running the a/c. Sorry this is late; I drafted it then forgot to send it :) RENE SCHNEIDER Well – you talking about Octopus and other tariffs – this is not for us. In Switzerland you are bound to the local electricity provider. Only if you are a company that uses a lot of electricity, you can have individual tariffs.  Why I don't mind? In my case th bill comes from our village government and in our village we have one of the lowest tariffs in Switzerland for private persons: 10 swiss cent low tariff and 13 swiss cent high tariff.  This is approx.. 9 euro cent at night and during weekends and 12 euro cent during the day. Yes. Only 0.09 Eur / kilowatt …. Well this has a good and a bad side. The amortization of the solar on my roof will be longer. But as I charge the cars with solar the most of the time it is ok for me. RON BARBER, SAN JOSE Here in Northern California energy is provided by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) and their rates have been going up consistently for the decade I have been tracking them. Probably at the maximum rate the government allows them to increase. Our primary house has Solar that we installed in Oct 2012 so 9 years ago and it has generated over 52MWh. It was an outright purchase and we have since recovered our investment a few years ago. I had select rate plan E-6 (Time of Use) which paid well during solar producing hours. That has been waining on benefit in the recent years but is still good so I have stayed with it even after purchasing an EV in 2018. I do most EV charging at my workplace. PG&E rates for power are from 25 to 41cents/kWh depending on season and if you exceed your baseline by some or a lot. We do exceed baseline by a lot in winter months when doing more cooking and I have a pool (so pool pump) but its variable speed to cut costs. Home electricity is costing me about 8 cents/kWh adjusted with solar because we have had more folks living here recently than planned. That's changing so prices should drop to near 0 with only a $10/mo meter-fee (grid hookup fee). ROMAIN GUYONY I changed my electricity supply to Octopus Energy using your referral code after taking ownership of a used Passat GTE estate last December. Every year I shop around for a better deal but this year I was specifically looking for a tariff that would give me cheaper electricity at night, Octopus Go was the only one I could find! Day rates were actually comparable if not cheaper than what I was getting from E.ON (around 15p/kWh), but a night rate of 5p/kWh was a big draw for me. I do 95% of my 22-mile commute on electricity (100% in the summer, less the rest of the year) and the savings compared to my old mild-hybrid Yaris are substantial. Before switching to this tariff I would charge as soon as I came home, as I run the battery down as much as I can during my commute and would want some juice in case I decided to pop out, this cheaper night tariff makes sure I only charge during the day if I need to. Due to this tariff we have also now taken to running our dishwasher and washing machine at night (using a special night cycle for the latter) for further cost savings! MATTI JOUHKIMO Since we got our ID.3 in December, we thought about changing to market-priced exchange electricity, but since our deal was fixed until February 2023 we couldn't. Turned out to be blessing in disguise, since prices are now through the roof, we pay no monthly payment and fixed 4,28c/kWh from electricity and another 4,07c/kWh for transfer (which you can't have a tender on in Finland), so with taxes we pay 11,14 c/kWh. We shop for the best prices every 2 years when contracts end. All 100% CO₂ free.  ALAN NORTHCUTT i don't believe your audience of EV enthusiasts always  places saving money as the top priority.   when i lived in an apartment, even before i owned the Bolt or Model 3, i chose an electricity plan that was 100% renewable. cost was secondary.   now that i live in a house and drive electric,  i have rooftop solar that covers my power needs during sunny months. STEVE SHADE Just got offered TOU, Time-Of-Use, residential electric pricing. By scheduling my Bolt to charge overnight up to 6AM  I will pay 0,096USD/KWh versus 0,132USD/KWh a 27% savings (did I use the commas instead of periods correctly?) (why do Americans say zee?) I drive my 2019 Bolt 20.000 miles/year at a great rate of 4,5 miles/KWh (max 45MPH low hills) using 4.444KWh/year TOU "Super-Off-Peak 12AM-6AM" saving 27% over regular rates: 160USD savings per year (586 - 426) on charging my Bolt alone. IAN SEAR We changed tariffs when we got our EVs, we moved to the Octopus Go which gives you very cheap electricity over night i.e. 5p per KWh, 13p during the day and a daily fixed charge of 25p, I didnt want the risk of a variable tariff I'm too small C conservative. This was inconvenient as the time window was 12:30-4:30, fine for charging cars but we found we were putting on dishwashers, hot tub and washing machine on late and it wasnt perfect, we then got a Tesla Powerwall and found it helped.  We then got on the "Go Faster" tariff which had a longer period of lower cost, (5 hours) but at a slightly higher cost at 5.5p. With the battery and charging cars overnight I've found I can shift 95% of my consumption to the night. We are on average paying about 7p per Kw/h blended price. We also have Solar with a FiT payment so the new tariffs that pay you for your solar generation aren't applicable but if I was starting from scratch Id definitely get a battery and as much solar as I could fit on the roof. A bit annoying we havent got V2G V2H out of the experimental stage. A small home battery or V2G would mean you use all your own Solar.  SCOTT VAN NIEKERK I’m excited. I’m in the waiting room for a Tesla model Y ordered at the beginning of October expecting delivery in March 2022. I called my electric company and asked them to switch out the basic meter for day/night charging dual rate. It’s a little more expensive during the day and 50% less expensive at night! It’s a no brainer right?! 💚 like Fruits and vegetables in A capsule 😂  No I just have to decide which charging option I’m going to go with, the NEMA 14-50 or the tesla wall connector 🤔 STEVEN STIER I live in southwest Georgia USA.  We have relatively cheap electricity in our area.  (10 cents per KWH).  So a special EV rate is unnecessary.   However, immediately upon buying my 1st EV, I installed a 7.8 KW solar array.  I now charge both my 2012 Leaf and 2019 Bolt only on sunny days.  Free,  is the ultimate electric rate.   NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM With the COP26 climate summit now underway in Scotland, what would you like to tell the politicians or the rule makers about electric cars? Email me your thoughts and I’ll read them out on Sunday – hello@evnewsdaily.com It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.
