Thank you @officiallymcconaughey for giving me the words that could not come yesterday. Enough is enough – not as if all the times before this mass shooting meant less, but everyone has a breaking point.  The breaking point, of all breaking points honestly. Gun violence, racism, violence against LGBTQ+, education “reform”, pro-choice, women’s rights … it’s a bunch of political bullshit that I choose to stay out of and instead, live my life in connection and love for all. But this mass shooting has hit me to my own core – Basta.  Enough. In this moment, I’m embarrassed of being American.  Appalled. And I know that the rage I feel inside now, is translated through this post so I am writing, deleting, editing, and rewriting multiple times … I can only do my best when 19 people are shot down in an elementary school.  When parents of these children must have a DNA test to properly identify their children … it’s horrific. And I know that we are, as a society, pointing the finger at the gunman, and the laws for guns.  Those are easy targets to get angry about.   “This heinous crime.  That terrible person.  These ridiculous laws.”  All true to a point… I’m tired of posting flags, blacking out my screen, hosting charity events … for what?  Nothing changes.  It’s like my friend @andresalvageassociates said to me years ago, (about George Floyd), “This will all be forgotten in a week or so.”  We are a distracted society … like squirrels going for what is shiny and new.  It disgusts me, makes me cringe really, and pierces my heart.  But I’d like to elaborate after conversing with my daughter who is 17 years old and wise beyond her years … This post is too long for your word count … more in the comments. Episode 43: Say YES!

Devotion is defined as “love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity, or cause”. I define it as something that takes your breath away.  That makes time stand still.  That fills your heart with expansion. It feels like an abundance in life; an overflowing of love and of all resources. It’s not free from challenges, or pains, or uncomfortable-ness.  No, devotion holds everything. Devotion gives you super-human powers to go beyond; to see clearly; to live in the realm of nothing that holds everything.  To live in the unknown because in that unknown, everything makes sense.  To live in the darkness knowing that the light will shine when it’s time. Devotion breeds unconditional love, acceptance and integrity.  And, it’s fueled by an inner compass that is indeed, indescribable.  Our devotion defies gravity, logic, reasoning and sometimes Universal Laws.  It needn’t make sense, we can’t possibly understand the “logic” of the heart because it’s more intricate that our brain, so how could we understand it? Sometimes we are told what to be devoted to.  You know, that can’t happen because no one lives in our own personal heart of hearts.  No one can hear the song of our heart except ourselves; only we know what we are devoted too.  We may try to be devoted to someone else’s path or idea but really, it is our own that will keep calling us back. We may stray, when things are blurry or we are in a state of fear or confusion.  That’s okay.  Because in that straying we learn; we gather and we observe other ways of doing things or portals into something new that spark our heart and send it back to it’s path.  Sometimes we stray because we are so afraid of the transparent vulnerability that comes with devotion, that we must look away.  The light of devotion illuminates everything and until we are okay with this light and what shadows it creates, we will continue to live in mediocrity. Devotion is the only way to live fully.  Being devoted to a moment.  To a breath.  To presence.  To your partner, to your children, to evolving, to expanding, to learning, to loving unconditionally.  To loving it all, without putting anything outside of that ring of love. Episode 42: Devotion

Episode 41: Courage

Episode 40: Authenticity 

The idea of surrender is a slippery slope.  It's defined as letting go of control, but the truth is, we never had control anyway.  So how could that be the definition?  When you let go and surrender to the gifts already inherent within yourself, your life shines brightly. You radiate love and abundance.  But because the undertone of surrender is one of “giving up”, you become fearful.  Which is obviously false evidence appearing real.   Surrender actually means letting go of patterns inhibiting you from living your life full out. It means believing in the abundance and love that are there for you all the time.  Surrender is a natural evolution of your soul, and necessary for you to become your most authentic self. Episode 37: Initiation 

Excerpt from my book Oms from the Mat  Patience, when we really breathe into it, reveals the truth.  You feel me on this one? I remember, when I was younger saying, out loud (this is no joke), “I wish I could wiggle my nose and get to where I am supposed to be next.”  When I got older and I was going through a tough time, instead of dropping into the struggle, I would run away and move onto something else.  So instead of having patience with the process and learning from the journey, I just wanted the destination or the end result.  What did that do?  Re-create lesson after lesson after lesson until I finally woke up and recognized the pattern. The pattern of thinking I knew it all. The pattern of not-enoughness …I better grab THIS opportunity, another one might not come along. The pattern of skimming the surface of my life for an illusion of perfection.  We don’t know it all. There are infinite opportunities and an abundance of resources. The depth of our journey reveals our connection to the Divine.  Patience is not just a virtue .. it’s a pathway to the Divine. It is the key to soulful living. Patience is the recipe for truth, freedom and love. Episode 36: Patience

Ritual is defined as "a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order."  While I can respect this definition I find it to be much more than that.  For me, ritual is simply a ceremony that connects us to a higher power.  Across all religious cultures, there are rituals that are important and impactful to connection.  They keep us grounded in our humanity, and elevated to the Divine.  Ritual can be an elaborate ceremony, or simply weaved into your day-to-day life. As a mother of two now adolescent young women, I have held true to daily, weekly, and special event rituals. How attuned are you to the energy around you?  The people you call family and friends?  The flow of life?  Is it supporting you and sustaining you? Or is it dragging you down?  Attunement is a word I use often with clients, in yoga sessions, and in Reiki training.  We become attuned to a higher frequency, but the trick is to remember that you were always transmitting that energy in the first place.  So then, how do we explain “negative” attunement?  We allow, for one reason or another, the negative tendencies of others to infiltrate our system … hopefully for a reason of spiritual growth and evolution.  Is it “bad or good?” It’s neither, it’s perfect. I had a hard time naming this podcast.  The theme for class this week is PRAJNA ... or wisdom. So we could call it that.  Taking the wisdom from 2020 and parlaying it into 2021.  But I also like to think of PRAJNA as clarity.  That kind of wisdom that can only grow out of experience. Episode 32: Welcome Back

It's time to pause ... to regroup.  To realign.  To restructure.  To replenish our souls.  To begin again.  I believe in Divine Timing and that all is well, even when it doesn't look that way.  Even when it's uncomfortable as hell... which is what we are experiencing now.  Taking action too quickly will result in perpetuating patterns.  Sitting still doing nothing and zoning out, will result in the same old patterning.  But resting in the Sacred Pause will give us all time to reflect, renew, listen and then move forward to create this new world with purpose, power, and authentic passion for life.   * * Use this time to go in with an eye on your heart and your life.  Do not judge ... just observe.  Listen deeply and act slowly.  Pause. Episode 31: Sacred Pause 

Frequency: the measurement of energy and vibration.  What does that have to do with you as a human?  Only everything.  Where you "vibrate" is what you create.  This isn't "good vibes only" ... this is your undercurrent that is creating your life.  This is the heart and head merging together putting a focus on big decisions that must come from the heart for powerful healing, which is driven by your frequency. * * Your F R E Q U E N C Y dictates your life.  But, that does NOT mean that when you are experiencing "bad things", your vibe is "bad".  It means that there is something within you that is needing attention for some reason or another.  And what's "bad" anyway?  It is also does meant that we can spiritually bypass the things that we consider “low-vibratory-frequency” just to experience "good vibes."   It means to find the frequency aligned with LOVE in ALL that you are going through, and all that is happening in your life right now. Bring your F R E Q U E N C Y to a pulse that can resonate with the mystical, the Divine, and the power of love. Which is easy to witness when things are going well…. find that frequency in ALL the things. That means no “Namastay-ing” yourself through life. Or passing on “sending light and love” bombs. Ahimsa is usually translated as nonviolence, but this goes far beyond physically hurting others or ourselves.  First and foremost we have to learn how to be nonviolent toward ourselves. We can include verbally abusing ourselves – becoming consciously aware of what our “I am” statements sound like.  This can be as subtle as criticizing our body, our actions or even saying things like, “I’m old!”  Any thought, word, or action that prevents us (or someone else) from growing and living freely is one that is considered harmful.  The practice of compassion becomes essential when practicing ahimsa. When we begin to recognize the life created around us through nature and animals, we begin to realize that we are an integral part of its sustainability and preservation.  We naturally find ourselves wanting to protect all living things. It becomes difficult to avoid recycling, damaging a tree or harming an animal – even an insect. Episode 29: Compassion

Have you ever wanted to do something for yourself and then decided at the last minute, “I better not,” or thought “I shouldn’t do this... I have so many other obligations I need to take care of first”? We all do it—put everyone else’s needs first. If you’re a woman, it’s almost an inherent trait to put yourself last. But just for fun, dare I ask, why? Why do you continue to put everyone else’s needs and desires before your own? Why do you continue to put your dreams on hold for your so-called “obligations” in life? What message is that sending to your loved ones, yourself, God?  Ask yourself right now—what are your dreams and desires? What would the life of your dreams look like? This isn’t some obligatory life that has been directed by your parents, teachers, or peers, but a life that is truly your own. Do you even know what your dreams are? Or has it been so long that you have forgotten what they are? 90,000 thoughts a day, only 21,600 breaths.  You are bound to fall into a pattern and react instead respond. What does this have to do with communication?  Everything! The way you communicate to yourself is actually the first thing you must focus on if you are to have successful relationships.  Because whatever is showing up in relationship outside of yourself is actually in direct proportion to how you speak and interact with yourself.  * * Be mindful of how you are communicating to yourself first... that will tell you everything.  And then remember a few things:  so much of communication is non verbal.  We lose that in technology.  Communication is not just talking, it's listening.  And assimilating.  And projecting.  And integrating.  Listen this week ... Harmony or balance?  Balance is when we strive toward creating a sense of equality. I was trying to encapsulate the theme in one word while I was teaching class yesterday. I just couldn’t. I mean how do you explain staying clear and focused amidst chaos? Watching the wind blow through your life and allowing it to happen? Staying strong when you feel weak? ⠀ *⠀ Using your super human powers to overcome adversity? Being a master of your own domain when you’re not quite sure where you’re going or what you’re doing? And finally … knowing what tool to use in each and every one of those situations in a quick-draw moment in time.⠀ *⠀ You become a Spiritual Ninja. That was the phrase that came to me S P I R I T U A L N I N J A. This New Moon Gemini, the low lying sneaky little New Moon is full of surprises, but if you are too busy freaking out at the change, the loss, the disassociation, or sudden shift in your life, you’re going to miss the miracle. Episode 2: Spiritual Ninja

This topic is one of my favorites to talk about.  And seemingly, in class this week, it was a favorite as well.  We love expanding don't we?  Until we hit our edge. That space where we look out into the "next thing" and say ... I'm not ready.  It happens to the best of us.  In those moments of contraction, there are still things to learn, to experience, to heal. So we mustn't minimize those moments; nor should we wallow in them too long either though.  Expansion happens after contraction - it can't even happen without the contraction. It's not possible.  But sometimes, we mistake contraction for our "comfort zone" and we refuse to expand at all.   Expansion is our birthright. It's our way of BEing. It's our way of connecting.  We are meant to expand our awareness to one that reaches beyond the minutia and into the upper realms of consciousness.  Expansion happens when we look up instead of down, and inward instead of out.  In this episode, listen to me talk about what it means to stand on the edge of what's next. Episode 18: Emptiness 

W I S D O M … the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment.  Okay, I can subscribe to that. I also believe we are born with wisdom.  We come into this world KNOWING what’s up.  Understanding, on a cellular level, how to function.  I mean the body we are born with, this vessel, is a living, breathing miracle.  And kids in school aren’t even taught anatomy until late middle school.  That’s ridiculous. About eight years ago, I had this dream of creating the Wisdom School.  A school were we share wisdom with children that pretty much emulates all the things I share in yoga teacher training:  pranayam, asana, chakra study, singing, arts, astrology, environmentalism …. And I didn’t do it because well, it goes against the “norm”. It was too much of an uphill battle at the time.  So I’ve done my best instead, to share what I know to be true with the little (not so little now) beings that share space with me every day. Why aren’t we validated on our wisdom?  That’s always intrigued me.  Why don’t we value the wisdom of our elders?  So infuriating. Why aren’t we listening to the wisdom of the trees? The ocean?  The Earth? For me personally, wisdom comes from knowledge, experience, outside projections, (yes), and intuition.  We must tap into what is real for us based on how we FEEL in our body.  This is our wisdom. Episode 22: Wisdom

What does it mean to be liberated from the past? From your patterns?  From thoughts?   From outdated paradigms and expectations that you have for yourself? How does it feel when something that used to trigger you, rolls off your back or passes you by completely, without you even noticing?  Liberating perhaps?    Yes, liberating.  I recorded this one on Thanksgiving Day around 4:00pm. My lovely daughters go and visit their father every single year for this holiday.  The first few years I would get so sad.  Being alone used to be a challenging thing for me.  It meant failure.  It meant unable to be in relationship. Episode 13: Manifest 

Passion is underrated; it’s replaced too often by obligations, responsibilities and stagnation. It’s pushed to the side in exchange for a perception of safety.  Let me say this:  safety is an illusion; passion is real.  It’s also seen as something that we find outside of ourselves.  I believe that sometimes, as spiritual beings living a human experience, we forget that we have the ability to experience a passion for this life all on our own. And sometimes we need that erotic, primal, animalistic instinct to push us forward. I have had the privilege to experience a complacent life, disillusioned by what I would have called mundane, unable to find passion in anything at all.  And I have tasted that primal knowing of ecstatic bliss in one moment, in one breath and in a heated exchange of love and intimate connection.  A connection beyond explanation, beyond reasoning, and resting only in an intuitive ignition of two souls coming together in union. Yes … that is the courage of all courage.  But when you are courageous enough to love, you gain the strength you need to move mountains. Episode 10: Courage

Listen to me talk about my most transformative work:  intimate relationship and parenting.  I can sit in a room, full of yogis seeking transformation, and not bat an eye. I can do that all day, every day.  But put me in the seat of intimate relationship with a potential Divine partner, and I go into deep patterning. Conscious parenting - ah, thank Goddess I've caught myself there.  I get tired and overwhelmed because I'm consistently observing and transforming the "HOW" so I can be a "higher octave" of mySelf.  Intimate relationship with a Divine partner and showing up as a conscious parent are truly, the two most powerful desires of my entire life.  It takes work ... every, single day. I've been able to transform many patterns, but tendrils still show up as residual and with this practice, I am able to transform them with love, breath, and compassion.     The yoga practice .... looks easy, and yes it is ... on the surface.  But my question for you is what is beneath the surface of your patterns?  And why are you still running them? When we close off a bit, when we draw that line, we create space for a shift in perspective. Boundaries make space for discernment between thoughts and reaction.
