The High Cost of Perfectionism

If you are a regular listener of The Driven Woman Podcast, you are probably a perfectionist. The Driven Woman is ambitious,  hard working,  strives for excellence and wants to be the best at everything she does, there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours to the day to get it all done, to her satisfaction.  That’s why we are talking about perfectionism again this week.  If you want to go back to Episode #12, The Cure for Perfectionism,  you can get a double dose of pure-DW straight talk on the subject.  The truth of the matter is that no one is perfect and if we apply our impossibly high standards to everything we do, we will be tweaking our web copy while a competitor beats us to market.  Perfection is costly and the harsh reality is that most of the times, the things we are obsessing over don’t even matter all that much. Our Pod Praise (podcast review) this week comes from CresnahF (a member of our Facebook group) who writes:  “I've checked if there is a podcast about intimidating women, (as people thought I am), and you're the first recommendation provided by Apple Podcast. I feel every word is talking to me, I felt it in my heart. I automatically subscribed. Thank you, Cresnah for this beautiful review and for supporting The Driven Woman Podcast.   (Cresnah is referring to episode# 35 - “Are you intimidating?” If you have heard you are intimidating, you definitely want to scroll back and listen!) Remember,  if you leave a review for The Driven Woman Podcast, Diann will read it on a future episode. Elevating Women's Voices Through Story with April Adams Pertuis

I first met today’s guest, April Adams Pertuis, in an online community for female entrepreneurs.  She was an award-winning journalist for many years, before deciding to take her skills online to reach as many people as possible. April believes every woman has a story to tell and it’s her mission to teach them how.  There are so many fears to be identified and overcome, but there is so much power in our stories and when we share them, we inspire others to do the same.  If you struggle with fear of being seen,  rejection sensitivity,  imposter syndrome or the belief that your story doesn’t matter,  pull up your chair and turn up the volume.  This one’s for you! Here are the highlights of our conversation:The importance of women's storiesHow to get more women to share their storyHow to get “unstuck” in a storyHow to look for stories in our everyday lifeThis week’s Pod Praise comes from Cher Kretz who writes: “As a woman who is driven, I am so glad I found this podcast. I can get powered up real fast and get out there, ready to make it happen! Thank you so much.” Thank you Cher for this thoughtful review. It’s time to celebrate, Driven Women! This week is our one year Podversary and I am so excited to announce that I have consistently produced this podcast every single week for an entire year.   In this solo episode, I take you back in time to my first interview as a podcast guest, through my journey of procrastination and perfectionism that delayed The Driven Woman for two years and what I finally figured out I needed to pull the trigger.  If you have a goal or project that you just can’t seem to get off the ground, this one is for you.    Our Pod Praise (podcast review) this week comes from Biancakezz who writes:  “Do you ever want to feel understood.  Like just understood and heard? Preventing Entrepreneurial Burnout with Cait Donovan

Today I am joined by Cait Donovan,  who is a burnout expert, something that many female entrepreneurs are at risk of, especially the gifted, creative, sensitive ones.  Cait is not only a burnout coach, but she is also a licensed acupuncturist, speaker, author, course creator and fellow podcaster.  Like many driven women, Cait learned about burnout the hard way, by going through it. She figured out how she ended up there, how to bounce back and now she is on a mission to end burnout culture.   If we want to stay in the entrepreneurial game long enough to have a business that it both profitable and sustainable,  staying alert to where we feel resentment and setting healthier boundaries is a must.   You are going to love this conversation as much as I did! This week’s Pod Praise comes from duckieduck64 (aka Marcie) who says: Welcome to a mind-blowing home for the ADHD professional, regardless of gender, to dive deeper into their adult ADHD journey, feel way less alone, and maybe learn a few tips along the way. Diann’s having profoundly intriguing conversations and so far, every episode I’ve listened to has deeply resonated in some way. Is Rejection Sensitivity Hurting Your Business?

If you are an entrepreneur, a creative person or an indie professional who needs to make offers, close sales, market their products or services and have a presence in the world of social media, I don’t have to tell you that dealing with real or perceived rejection is one of the issues you need to gain mastery over in order to stay in business and make a living.  But, rejection sensitivity is not a disorder, a mental health diagnosis or illness.  It is also not a reason to hide your gifts from the world, work for free or barter yourself into business failure.  You can be both sensitive and successful and it is well worth learning to overcome your fears so you can make your difference in the world.  Our Pod Praise (podcast review) this week comes from Jerseyll who writes: “This is an amazing podcast packed full of actionable info you can put to use in your life right away. The Episode #48 interview Diann did with her friend, therapist, John Sovec on How to Keep Fear from Holding You Back, was so good that I’m going to listen to over again many, many times. Do yourself a favor and tune in!”   Thank you, Jerseyll for this awesome review and for supporting the podcast! Remember,  if you leave a review for The Driven Woman Podcast, Diann will read it on a future episode. Leveraging ADHD as a Serial Entrepreneur with Angela Proffitt

Today I am joined by Angela Proffitt,  who describes herself as “a southern gal with a potty mouth” (so you know I was taken with her instantly) and is the founder and CEO of Angela Proffitt, LLC a consulting firm out of Nashville, Tennessee.  Angela is a productivity consultant, speaker, author, online course creator, podcaster, 8-figure serial entrepreneur, AND a driven woman with ADHD.  Her story is full of twists and turns, good luck, and bad choices, but what is most impressive to me about Angela is her mindset and how she made over her life from being a total workaholic on the verge of burnout to one where she is in control of her time, energy, clients, and money.  Angela Proffitt just may be one of the most inspiring women I’ve met, with or without ADHD, and whether you are an entrepreneur or not, you will learn a ton from this conversation.  This week’s Pod Praise comes from GalFriday612 who says: “Give this show a listen, ADHD or No. Diann cuts to the heart of the topic at hand - no fluff, no filler, just concentrated Exactly What You Need To Hear. The podcast feels like sitting down for an intimate chat with your friend who always gives the best advice to get you unstuck.”Don’t forget to leave your own review of The Driven Woman Podcast, so I can read it on a future episode!    Apple: https://apple.co/2BZDFzcAndroid: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/the-driven-woman-1194485Want to help me know exactly what content to feature?Click here to take this poll  “What’s Holding You Back?”  I’m working on a brand new series on mindset blocks.  https://www.tryinteract.com/share/quiz/5e86e90dce39a3001432b6dbAre you ready to take things to the next level and work With Diann? Are you ready to invest in making 2021 the year you get back into momentum?  Click here to schedule a free 30-minute consultation with Diann to see if her signature 12-week private coaching program is right for you.  Create an ADHD-friendly business and life! https://calendly.com/diannwingert/free-consultationConnect with Diann Online: The Driven Woman Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thedrivenwoman/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coachdiannwingert/ LinkedIn:   https://www.linkedin.com/in/diannwingertcoaching/ Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/diannwingertcoaching/ Organizations mentioned by our guest in this episode:SCORE: https://www.score.org/EO (Entrepreneur’s Organization): https://www.eonetwork.org/Want to connect with Angela Proffitt, our fabulous guest? Website: https://theprofitableshift.com/Podcast:  https://theprofitableshift.com/podcast/GSD Academy: https://angelaproffitt.lpages.co/gsdwaitlist/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/angelaproffitt/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwdB7cvwDh9BKAmDSzc_RYQ

Different, Not Deficient

It makes me angry that acknowledging a mental health diagnosis and receiving help is still a source of stigma and shame.  I am grateful to the brave and clever people who have taken to YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, not to mention those who have started podcasts, to normalize mental health conditions by dropping their masks and sharing their struggles. They have done more to raise awareness and spread hope in the last few years than the psychiatric community has been able to do in decades.  If you suspect or know you have ADHD, you don’t have to pledge allegiance to any of the factions within this community (‘It’s a superpower!” vs “It’s a disability!”) but you do need to decide what you make it mean about you, your life and your abilities.  Listen in as I share my journey with ADHD and the choices I have made that just might work for you too. Online influencers I follow who talk about ADHD:Podcasts:   Distraction Podcast with Dr. Ned Hallowellhttps://www.distractionpodcast.com/category/episodes/Proudly ADHD with Cathy Rashidianhttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/proudly-adhd-at-work-and-in-business/id1483365005Excuse my ADHD with Jeanette Grahamhttps://www.excusemyadhd.com/podcasts-list/Instagram:  Tracy Otsuka’s ADHD for Smart Ass Women @tracyotsukaLyn Miner- Rosen @adhdcoachlynRene Brooks @blackgirllostkeysTikTok:Catie Osborn @catieosaurusDani Donovan @danidonovanChalene Johnson @chalenejohnsonYouTube: Dr. Edward Hallowell https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUxHRVjLIEIS0eeQR6MXONAHow to ADHD by Jessica McCabe https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-nPM1_kSZf91ZGkcgy_95QOur Pod Praise (podcast review) this week comes from Cadon23, who writes: “Fun, inspiring and impactful! Client Success Story: Tracey Watts Cirino

Some of my most popular episodes are the Client Success Stories, and I am sure that this one will be no exception.  Today’s guest, Tracey Watts-Cirino, was a successful 20-year beauty industry leader and small business owner when she decided to hire me to help her figure out why she wasn’t reaching her next-level goals and her true potential.  Some of the highlights: Is it perfectionism or giftedness that makes you so driven? Her lifetime habit of asking “does that make sense?” & how she was finally able to give it up Being a leader with ADHD means we need to show up differently The identity transformation from “I am too much” to “I am a force for good”This week’s podcast review is from Tanyi, who happens to be one of my clients, too. “Diann is truly a force to be reckoned with! Change, Habits & Fear, Oh My!

Lately, we have been talking a lot about fear.  In last week’s guest expert interview with John Sovec, we talked about How to Keep Fear From Holding You Back. In this week’s solo episode, we will continue on the theme by discussing how it’s natural to feel that change is hard, how to deal with the fear of change, and the power of habit to make things easier.  It’s all in understanding how the brain works, so I will help you understand how to put it to work for you. Overcoming your resistance and learning to accept change will ultimately make you feel good about yourself and acknowledging your fear will take you one step closer to your life goals. Our Pod Praise (podcast review) this week comes from Sarah Travel Gal, who writes: “For all driven women! Not everyone is born a hyper-focused productivity guru. Diann’s show is perfect for driven, high-achieving women who want to learn to improve how they manage their time and energy.
