Rank #2: How to Achieve the Perfect Millennial Work/Life Balance

Podcast cover
Read more
This week on the Surrounded by Idiots Radio Podcast, my special guest, Amanda Ventura and I share our solutions on how to achieve the perfect Millennial work/life balance.
From Millennial to Millennial
Amanda is a "Senior" Account Manager with Evolve PR and Marketing, here in Phoenix.

She is a successful 27 year old Millennial that has going through all the Millennial work/life balance stuff including the constant judgment of loving a job versus chasing the money versus being unemployed by choice.

Amanda is a perfect guest to have on because she is a Millennial that has gone through all of these steps and has figured out how to achieve the perfect Millennial work/life balance.
In this episode, Tony and Amanda talk about:
How to figure out if your current job lines up with your personal values and if it has the ability to fulfill you on some level
The trick in finding the hidden meaning within a job that, on the surface, doesn't look like a good fit for you
The biggest reason why Millennials are having a difficult time entering the workforce that has been shaped by the "rules" of the Baby Boomer and Gen X generations
A way to keep yourself in balance while you assess if your current job works for you
Why being "unemployed by choice" may be a brilliant move, but only if you follow a couple of important tips on surviving with less money
How you find your "true" friends when you have to make tough decisions while you are re-balancing
Effectively using your most valuable resource to "attract" a job that is more aligned with who you are
Why "Burning Bridges" is way more damaging now than it ever has been
How the Millennial concept of "A rising tide lifts all boats" is brilliant and will forever change how we do business
How to align your Millennial "Value System" with your Baby Boomer or Gen X'er employer's "Rules" based company
And, there are a few more things, but I think you get the point.

This show was jam packed with brilliant insights by Amanda and with real-world solutions you can start to use immediately.

I would like to thank Amanda again and I look forward to sharing another show done with her, which is full of even more good stuff.

You can find Amanda at @mandaven on both Instagram and Twitter or amandaventura on Facebook.
Thanks for listening to How to Achieve the Perfect Millennial Work/Life Balance and I'll see you next week.

Rank #3: How to Effectively Communicate With Different Personality Types

Podcast cover
Read more
This is an encore broadcast of Lexi and I sharing with you How to Effectively Communicate With Different Personality Types.
The point of the show this week is to expose the four most general personality types (known as the Personality Quadrant) and to explain each one so you can get some idea of where you fit. As an extra bonus, Here is the link to an online test where you can take the test for free and find out which type of personality you associate with the most.

Another easy and cheap way to figure out what your core personality, is to head to Amazon and pick up the book by Keirsey and Bates titled, "Please Understand Me".  It has a test that will take you about 20 minutes but will provide you with a wealth of information about what type of personality you tend to be.

I generally follow the Personality Quadrant model for personality differences.  This model splits personalities up into four possible categories:
The Controller

Task accomplisher
Bottom-line results
Self-motivated
Forward looking
Fast decision-maker
Initiates activities
Disciplined
Likes to control others
The Promoter

High energy
Enjoyable to be around
Creative imagination
Initiates relationships
Motivating
Competitive spirit
Goal-oriented
The Analyzer

Objective
Conscientious
Defines, clarifies
Concerned with accuracy
Gathers needed data/information
Tests data
Maintains standards
The Supporter

Dedicated and committed
Loyal team member
Good listener
Patient
Good at reconciling factions
Cause-oriented
Dependable
For a really good description of each of these personalities, click here...it will take you to a Virginia Tech website that bullet points the main characteristics of each personality.

Once you have an idea of where you stand, you'll be able to see that other personality types see and hear and feel the world a lot different than you do.
Biggest Communication Problem
This is the biggest cause of communication problems...because, even though you feel as though you're doing a great job explaining your point of view, the other person either isn't listening or just doesn't get it...which leads to you being frustrated...which leads to them getting frustrated...do you see where this is going?

So, that's why Lexi and I wanted to explain how to effectively communicate to someone that has a totally different personality structure than you do.

Also, we wanted to touch on the different communication approach needed based on the situation...you wouldn't want to communicate to someone that you are asking out the same way you would with your boss.

All of these questions and more are answered on this week's show.

Before you go, I would like to provide you with a way to get my latest FREE mini-guide.

Rank #5: Time to Get Out of That Rut

Podcast cover
Read more
You know those times when it seems life has grinded to a halt and you find yourself stuck in an unfulfilling relationship or in a "I'll never find someone" mentality or in a job that just doesn't do it for you...well, it's time to get out of that rut.

This week's show, Lexi joins Tony and they talk about what it's like being stuck in a rut...sharing their own personal experiences...as well as the pretty easy way to get yourself moving again.

The frustration of being stuck at a place that you know you shouldn't be at is sometimes so strong, that it keeps us from even seeing the other possibilities and opportunities that we have.  Especially when it comes to relationships, because there's an added wrinkle...there's another person's feelings involved.

Lexi talks about the "feeling" being just that...obviously we aren't actually stuck in anything, like finding ourselves in a sticky mud bog...stuck and unable to move.  And that's the key...

...the key is that the "rut" is self-generated...you are actually putting yourself in a position where you feel stuck, where you can see no obvious way out of your current situation...and why would you do such a thing to yourself?...because it is working for you...or more accurately, for your ego.

The entire point of you hitting your head up against something and feeling as though you cannot continue on your path of growth is because you may be facing the fact that you make a lousy decision in the past that took you to the stuck place you are now at...or, you may have opened up emotionally with your partner up to a point where it now scares the hell out of you to get any more open, or vulnerable...then your ego is telling you to bail, but your head and heart know you shouldn't...you see how that works?  We create the opposing forces in our own minds in order to protect ourselves from possibly hurting ourselves or other people.

Luckily, there is a way out of the rut...a way to get unstuck that will not directly challenge the Ego...it's almost like you are tricking your brain into getting unstuck...like tricking the guard to hand you the keys to your cell because you want to admire their shape...trickery...

Tony and Lexi end the show by getting into a three step process for perfect communication.  It's sort of a topic for another show, but they just couldn't help themselves.

Peace out!

Rank #6: Tales From A Professional Matchmaker

Podcast cover
Read more
This week, Tony is joined by Mariah once again, along with a very special guest that was kind enough to share her Tales From a Professional Matchmaker.

Jody was previously a dating coach who worked for a large dating company.  Her job was to basically help those clients that either...

...were frustrated that they haven't found the "one" , or ...

...needed help with drafting their profile and shooting their video, or...

...needed a quick tutorial on how NOT to be so socially awkward that it would send their date running for the door.

Jody shares a number of stories, mostly centering around how clueless a lot of guys can be in regards to what they really bring to the table, and

"maybe" they should have a little "Come to Jesus"...get real...and start to consider girls that would actually consider them.

Basically, these were 3's...maybe 4's...looking to land an, at minimum, 8...as you know ladies, this rarely occurs unless the guy is...

...one rich, ugly bastard, or...

...Mr. Personality, or...

...well, you know what the third "or" would be...

Needless to say, Jody ran up against a lot of Egyptian Crocodiles...guys in de-nile.

And to top it off, Jody shares a hilarious story about this old dude who lost his rug in the hot tub, giving some hottie "the business".

As the show progresses, it's discovered that both Mariah and Jody have been a part of speed dating sessions...with Mariah actually being the "point"

girl for a speed dating company in Boston (Go Sox!).

Tony wants to know what the deal is with speed dating, thinking it can't be enough time to make any sort of reasonable connection...and what happens when

someone wants nothing to do with another person that already sees them getting married?

Lastly, Tony asks Jody to share a little something about Singleton Moms, the charitable organization Jody began after her friend (a single mom) lost her fight with cancer.

If you wish to know more about how amazing Singleton Mom's is...check out the website   www.singletonmoms.org.

For the record, both Tony and Mariah have been active board members with Singleton Moms for over four years.

Hope you enjoy the show...Peace!

Rank #7: Best and Worst Times of the Year for Relationships

Podcast cover

There's actually legit science that indicates when are the best and worst times of the year for relationships.

This week, it's the Walk of Shame Wednesday version of the Surrounded by Idiots Radio Podcast.

Lexi joins back up with Tony to talk about a relationship topic that seems all to relevant at this point, especially as we go into the holiday season.  Interestingly enough, it's during this season that relationships appear to get tested more than any other time of the year.

In addition to this uplifting information, Tony hits you with some research that shows there are certain patterns associated with relationship beginnings and break-ups.

And, interestingly enough, some of the times of year you think would be great to start something, actually end up being the worst possible times.

Tony talks about the added pressure the holiday season brings and the fact that the thought level of gift giving to a significant other tells a lot about how successful the relationship will be.

Tony then brings up the four reasons why starting a relationship during a particular season tends to help your chances at success.

As is with most of the shows with Lex, she ends it by stating she is getting prepped for a night of binge drinking.

Enjoy!

Rank #8: Best of the Walk of Shame – Talking Bisexuality with Mr. Steal Yo’ Girl

Podcast cover

Our Most Popular Episode Back by Popular Demand
This week Lexi and I thought it would be fun to our most popular episode ever... Talking Bisexuality with our friend Max, or "Mr. Steal Yo' Girl".

Max is a male model, bartender and, obviously bisexual.  Since this show originally aired in May 2015, Max has gone on to do some serious modeling gigs in Los Angeles, New York and Miami.

Max was invited to the show because of his unique perspective of being a bisexual man that can, let's be honest, catch the eye of a lot of women as well as gay men. And, because of his attraction to both guys and girls, both sexually and emotionally, he can speak to the similarities and differences in dating and relationships with both genders.

Also, Max, Tony and Lexi share their experiences in the service industry (most specifically in the restaurant industry).

Max talks about the situations where he turns into Mr. Steal Yo' Girl.
The Life of a Bartender or Server
Tony talks about how much easier it is to connect to people as a server or a bartender because you are performing (showing your personality and originality) on stage and you have an immediate "in" with attractive girls because it's your job to introduce yourself...it's the perfect "open".

Lexi shares her stories about connecting with patrons...how to deal with close-minded idiots and how difficult is can be at times to keep her boundaries with certain customers.
The Difficulties of Growing Up Bisexual
In the second half of the show, Max is very open about how he became aware of his sexuality, how he handled it growing up, how his family reacted and how he has come to accept himself for who he is versus what his sexual orientation is...
Big Announcement!
And lastly, which is actually firstly because I open the show with this announcement...

After a year and a half and over 50 shows, the Walk of Shame Radio Podcast is going through a transition.  On the heels of Tony's upcoming book, "Surrounded by Idiots", he has decided to morph the dating and relationship stuff covered in the Walk of Shame podcast, into a lifestyle, personal growth and development, life transition/meaning of life stuff podcast which will be called...
The Surrounded by Idiots Radio Podcast
The transition will take a few weeks and in the meantime we will mix up our weekly releases with our most popular "Best of" episodes as well as some new ones.

As a sidenote, the "Walk of Shame Radio Podcast" will turn into "Walk of Shame Wednesdays", where one Wednesday a month I'll focus solely on dating and relationship stuff on the "Surrounded by Idiots Show".

I hope you enjoy this "Best of" and hope you get on board with the new show, which will debut in about a month.  I'll talk more about the new show in the upcoming weeks.

Peace!

Today we chat about how to make a first date very successful
And by successful, we don't necessarily mean having the date lead into another date, or ending up at her place in a Netflix and Chill situation.
We have all experienced those not-so-fuzzy feelings that take over our body immediately after agreeing to a first date.

First, `we question whether this "first date" we speak of is even a date or if we are just making this up in our head along with what color our bridesmaids dresses will be.

So, do yourself a favor and...STOP. RIGHT. THERE!

Take a deep breath and stop questioning this meet-ups existence and definitely planning your divorce.

This human (or some variation of) asked you out for a reason and you agreed for a reason.  Now, in hindsight, you may have been totally hammered or more agreeable than you would usually be because some lamo just bailed on you and this other person happened to show up at just the right time to fulfill your "I'll show you" plan.
That actually doesn't matter...you agreed, for whatever reason and so, why the hell not just ride it out?  You never know...
Our goal is to get build the awareness within you as an individual. Stop overthinking. You will be just fine.

In this episode of The Walk Of Shame Radio Podcast, Tony and I discuss first date etiquette and how to create a successful first date.

Success doesn't mean taking your date home and ripping their clothes off after dinner, it means truly feeling you got something from the date.

As the concept of dating shouldn't get away from you...it is 2 people sitting down to genuinely connect in hopes of creating a beautiful relationship.

Too many people get lost in their self conscious mind or ever worse their ego.

Social media is painting the wrong picture about how to take your talents and become a wide-scale impact on the world.
Just because some 19 year old drop-out developed some random app and now he's flaunting his billions doesn't mean you have to force your way into a particular career or put yourself in a position where you have to compromise on your ethics in order to become a high level influencer.
When it comes down to it, the old way is still the best way...

Rank #12: When Life Doesn’t Go As Planned

Podcast cover
Read more
When Life Doesn’t Go As Planned, what’s the next step?
In this week’s Walk of Shame Radio Podcast Lexi and Tony tackle the very common problem in a relationship where the couple finds themselves with two different visions of what their life will look like in the future.
Lexi starts things off with a share of one of her favorite quotes:
"We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us" -Joseph Campbell
It’s a tough gig when you really connect with someone and see a future with that person, only to have your life-long plans not in sync.
The interesting part about this is that we all drop hints to our significant other about the things that are most important to us all throughout our dating process…and, as the relationship builds, the hints become more like heart to heart talks on “where are we going, together”.
Instances this situation comes up could be as basic as what city to live in or what religion to practice or the biggy that Lexi and Tony focus on today:
“What if you want kids and your partner doesn’t?”
Then that’s where your plans come up against their plans, which then brings to the table two very important words Lexi and Tony talk about:
Compromise and Sacrifice.
This week, Lexi got her inspiration from a few of her new clients as well as the famous philosopher Joseph Campbell, where he writes that the life we have planned is never what it turns out to be.
Tune is as Tony and Lexi talk about how much sacrifice you should make when it comes to true love and energy in keeping a relationship together that maybe, shouldn't be intact in the first place.
We all have somewhat of a future plan written down about our life and where we want it to go year by year. We should, it's called manifestation, it's called vision and it can truly be a beautiful thing…

Here we break down how to get through what may be the most devastating situation you may experience…the dilemma between being in a relationship and compromising your happiness, or ending it and moving on to find your destiny.
Heartbreak hurts, but it is temporary if you truly understand that plans change and people last in your life until they don't.
What WILL BE the saving grace is being completely in tune with yourself and knowing to your core that you are living your complete truth.
Tony gives you a few pieces of advice to keep in your pocket while dating to avoid these issues and Lexi has a soul session to end the show.
Indulge, rate and review!

This week I am re-airing one of our most popular shows of the year.  It's all about debunking some stupid myths when it comes to the Millennial generation. In looking up the research, I got really pissed at all the Millennial Bashing that was going on, so I changed it up and decided to do a show about
"How the Millennial Generation Will Change the World"
This week Lexi and I get fired up about all of the name calling and generation bashing that has been directed at Millennials / Gen-Y's from the Gen X'ers and Baby Boomers.
Some of the points covered in this week's show include:
- The power in numbers of Millennials
- The completely different upbringing the Millennials had versus previous generations and how that leads to the high level of misunderstandings between the generations.
- The elevated perspective of Millennials and why the previous generations are fearful of it.
- The effect of the collapse of the "American Dream" and how the Millennial Generation is not only rising above, but re-defining life value and purpose.
- The power of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and why every Millennial should know where they stand.

Rank #18: New Beginnings, Millennial Style

Podcast cover
Read more
Today’s Walk of Shame episode is all about New Beginnings, Millennial Style.
Walk of Shame New Beginnings
As I’ve talked about over the last couple of weeks, I’ve decided to expand the concept of the Walk of Shame Podcast theme of relationships and dating, to a broader life philosophy podcast that goes along with my Millennial Mentor consulting business and with the themes I write about in my upcoming book,
“Surrounded by Idiots…3 ½ Action Steps to Rise Above the Unwashed Masses and Live Life on Your Own Terms”.
The new Surrounded by Idiots Radio Podcast will still cover important relationship and dating issues, but it will also get into some cool self-improvement tools and perspective and gettin’ your mind right and how to make really tough decisions and better ways to communicate and overall, how to dial yourself in to your purpose (or what you want your purpose to be).
Millennial Issues
And, since I work with Millennial-aged clients, my book and the new podcast will be geared towards more specific Millennial issues…issues that have become very important to your generation like values and the importance of experiences in life and living with debt and living a life with meaning and re-thinking the importance of things and being more value centered than rule-centered while trying to find a job in a rule-centered business environment.  There’s a ton to talk about and I’m really looking forward to it.

And, in this show Mariah and I start off and talk about her big New Beginnings right now which is having a new baby AND getting ready to make a cross-country move.  Mariah was very honest about the issues that come when big life shifts happen and how to keep things in perspective and how to be more aware of the subtle things that come along with big life changes.

Mariah brings up an excellent point about being in a relationship and having a family of her own and then having to move closer to her extended family, and the issues that will come up now that she doesn’t have that distance “buffer”.  She talks about the absolute need to draw new boundaries…which is a huge step, and an important one.

Especially for Millennials, establishing new “adult” boundaries with your parents is a very important step as you get older and sometimes.  However, depending on your relationship with your parents, this could be a little difficult.
The Old Millennials versus the New Millennials
Then, at the end of the show, we talk about the distinct difference between the younger and older Millennials.  Mariah happens to be located in the older group and she gives some great input about the difference from her perspective.

Ultimately this is not the end of the Walk of Shame Radio Podcast, but a New Beginnings, Millennial Style, in the form of the Surrounded by Idiots Radio Podcast.

Rank #20: Choosing Porn over Sex

Podcast cover
Read more
Choosing porn over sex in a relationship was too intriguing a topic for us NOT to talk about.

This week, the WOS radio podcast finds Lexi out and about in San Diego and not able to sit in on this fascinating topic of porn and sex and relationships and plushies.

So, fortunately, Tony had his very good friend, Mariah, in town to offer her take on this interesting topic, from a Millennial Chick point of view.

The show was created around an article in Women's Health Magazine, titled,

"What Does it Mean When Your Partner Chooses Porn Over Sex?"

And, in the article, the author and the "sexologist" indicated there are four possible reasons why your "man" would choose watching porn over having sex with you.

So, Mariah and Tony took a look at the four reasons and responded from a millennial chick and male Gen X'ers point of view.

And, what really came out of the discussion, or should I say, where the discussion ultimately led, was back to those core issues we talk about all the time....

....intimacy, trust and communication.

In addition, Mariah was nice enough to share her recent experience of battling the MCAT test and her journey into med school.

And, Tony felt it necessary to stand on his soapbox and talk about why he thinks the Millennial Generation is the smartest generation to come along in a VERY long time.

So, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride...

...GO SOX !!
