Rank #10: Podcast Episode 170 - The Non-Makeup Years

Podcast cover
Read more
I haven't done a Kiss-centric episode in a long time. They're the band that got me into music, and after seeing a list that was recently published that pertained to the "greatest" non-makeup tracks by the band, it inspired me to put my own list together. There is no exact order here, just tracks that I think are cool, and there is really no other reason than that. It flip flops between songs that Gene and Paul have sung, as they did the majority of vocals during this time period. That isn't to take away from Eric Carr or Bruce Kulick who each sung a track, but Mr. Stanley and Mr. Simmons have performed the majority of the lead vocals. I also give my behind the scenes opinion on something that is on the mind of a bunch of Kiss fans, I can't say evvery one, because there are a lot that honestly don't care. If you're a die-hard fan of the band's, nothing here is new, it's just an excuse to play some cool tunes that as everything else I do vears away from the same old same old (for the most part).

Rank #18: Podcast Episode 157 - Anthrax Storytellers With John Bush

Podcast cover
Read more
During this episode, we welcome John Bush back to the show to discuss the studio albums of original material he appeared on while he was in Anthrax. Similar to episode 156, the Armored Saint storytellers episode, I select a number of tracks from Sound Of White Noise, Stomp 442, Volume 8: The Threat Is Real, and We've Come For You All. But we do veer from there to discuss the albums overall, videos that were made along the way, the Ball Of Confusion cover, which saw Joey Belladonna duet with John, and why he speculates the tour with both singers never took place. Why the band never completed the Maximum Rocks tour with Motley Crue and Megadeth, as well as how constant label, manager, and member changes with each one of these albums hurt the band during his tenure. Would John Bush ever consider playing these songs again live? You'll have to listen in and find out, as he answers that question directly. Thanks to Nikki Law and John Bush for making this episode possible.

Rank #19: Podcast Episode 156 - Armored Saint Storytellers With John Bush And Joey Vera

Podcast cover
Read more
This episode was many years in the making, thanks to Nikki Law it is now a reality. During this episode I rundown the band's entire catalog of studio albums, discussing at least two tracks per album with both Joey Vera and John Bush. You'll hear some common themes throughout, and hear how songs came together both form a lyrical standpoint, and musical composition. You hear Joey and John discuss a bunch of topics, including songs they'd love to rotate in the live setting, and possibly not play again, videos they've made, both good and bad, getting songwriting advice from unlikely sources, both wanted and unwanted, butting heads with their former record label over the band's direction, saving songs because they were holding out hoping Armored Saint would reform, going from a five piece, to a four piece and back. I do apologize with the hum at the beginning of the episode, it is something that is fixed before the discussion with Joey and John begins. The first track is discussed at the 14 minute mark.

Jake Davies is the lead singer guitarist of the band Of Limbo. He's from Melbourne, Australia and migrated to the U.S., Long Beach, California to be exact to make it in the music industry. His brother Luke is the other guitarist of the band. They both decided to take a chance in California, shortly after Luke attended the Berkeley School Of Music.

During the episode we discuss what jump started his interest in music. The differences between the rock scene in Melbourne and Long Beach/L.A. Working on EPs instead of full length albums. The video for the title track of the Nothing But Now EP. And the possibility of playing some shows during the pandemic.

The episode features music by Of Limbo, Void Vator, Simon Collins and The Sword. Support the bands that you love by picking up their music.

Podcast Episode 179 - Kristian Niemann Of Sorcerer

Podcast cover
Read more
Kristian Niemann is the guitarist of the Swedish band Sorcerer. If you've followed him over the years, you know that he's been a part of bands such as Therion, Demonoid, and Snowy Shaw Allstars. He joined Sorcerer in 2010, and could first be heard with them on their 2015 release In The Shadow Of the Inverted Cross. He has played on everything the band has released since then, 2016's Black EP, 2017's The Crowing Of The Fire King, and the soon to be released Lamenting Of The Innocent.

During the interview we discuss the new album. Why being known as more than just a doom metal band is important to them. If it was difficult for them self produce the album, and be objective with their own material. How the current pandemic is affecting the band's plans for 2020. And more!

The band formed back in 1988 in Stockholm Sweden. Although they released a pair of demos, and where featured on two compilations over the years, they didn't release a full length album until 2015's In The Shadow Of the Inverted Cross. The band was around from 1988 to 1992. They got back together again in 2010, and have been around since.

Podcast Episode 178 - Lucas Kanopa Of Void Vator

Podcast cover
Read more
Lucas Kanopa is a Uruguayan guitarist and lead singer. He came on my radar a few years ago after being mentioned to me by Patrick Kennison of the band Heaven Below. Shortly there after, Erik Kluiber, brought his name up as well. Erik has been on the show more than anyone else. He mentioned at the time that he had just left Gypsyhawk, and was playing in several L.A. bands. One of them was Void Vator along Lucas. During the interview Lucas talks about meeting both Patrick and Erik. The differences between each band, and how his writing figures in to both. Why he decided to leave Heaven Below, and focus on Void Vator. Coming from Uruguay with Void Vator's drummer German Moura. What it was like to grow up a rock and metal fan in Uruguay. And a bunch more.

During the episode you will hear snippets of tracks by the band. Support the bands you love, if you hear something that you like during the episode that you like, pick something by the band up. Please support them by going to their Bandcamp page, and picking up their latest album Stranded.
