Power Corrupts. So Don’t Trust Anyone Who Has it

Podcast cover
Read more

“Power corrupts” has been a maxim for ages, but most people still seem to trust people with power as long as it’s used in a way they want it to be used. This is extremely short-sighted. The Founders warned us about this – whatever power you give someone today to do “good” will eventually be in the hands of someone who can use that power for the opposite.

Some bad news, followed by more bad news, unfortunately. A “2nd Amendment Sanctuary” bill in Texas has a pretty major loophole – and another effort has an even bigger one. This could certainly happen in other states too – if no one’s paying attention.

When it’s “just for the terrorists,” you can be sure it’ll eventually be used against you. As leading founders like James Madison, John Adams, John Dickinson, and Samuel Adams warned us – the precedent of power is like a cancer – it grows and grows, and grows. That’s exactly what’s happening before our very eyes with the unconstitutional warrantless surveillance powers of Section 702.

Anti-Nullification Propaganda: Definitions Matter

Podcast cover
Read more

For many people, nullification is a loaded word – primarily due to a government-run education system that’s never taught people the full history of the doctrine. Partisans seem to like it that way and perpetuate these myths by referring to things they don’t like as slavery-supporting nullification – and things they do like as definitely, absolutely “not nullification.”

In 1791, James Madison gave two major speeches on the National Bank, opposing it primarily on grounds that it wasn’t a power expressly delegated in the Constitution. ATF officials met with manufacturers last week to discuss “issues of mutual concern.” That is, new legislation or executive action directed at “ghost guns.” They want more unconstitutional federal regulations. But even if they’re able to get it on the books, with tools, parts and 3D printing providing more ease of access for the general public, it’s possible that enforcement could be doomed from the start.
