Bringing up two boys in a rural, very white, village in Wiltshire, Pam had to help them learn to fend off taunts, and on one occasion she faced up to the head teacher who, she believed reacted to an incident in a disappointingly racist fashion. When the boys left home Pam and her husband Richard decided to head back to Zambia on the offer of land, and set out to build their dream life in the Africa bush.
