I have been hooked ever since meeting the crew on Triple Force Friday. This is my go-to Star Wars podcast. It's fun, family-friendly, and very informative. With so much drama in the community, it's nice to hear a group of people who love Star Wars and love talking about it without their being chaos. This podcast is great for Star Wars fans of all ages and I imagine it would be equally as great for people who are just beginning their Star Wars journey.

Rank #3: JJ Abrams Discusses The Last Jedi

Podcast cover
Read more
JJ Abrams is opening up his personal “mystery box” and talking about writing and directing The Rise of Skywalker. We’re most interested in his comments about Rian Johnson and The Last Jedi. Did he feel like Rian threw out everything JJ setup in The Force Awakens?

We’ll open up what some might consider “Pandora’s Box,” plus share our Hot Takes on the latest Star Wars news, and any new releases coming next week.

It's TIME for Tatooine Sons!

The final promotional blitz for The Rise of Skywalker has begun, and along with it, some reflective interviews by the cast, crew, and producers. Last week, Rolling Stone Magazine released a fascinating and revealing interview with JJ Abrams, where he talks a lot about The Last Jedi and its impact on Episode IX. And one more thing, he drops a really juicy nugget about Rey. We’ll discuss it next.

HOT TAKES:

Either Colin Trevorrow or Kathleen Kennedy are about to have a “from a certain point of view” moment. Did Dave Filoni walk back previous statements about Boba Fett? And we’ve gotten another look at the Rise of Resistance! It’s time for Hot Takes.

Welcome Star Wars fans to Episode 92 of Tatooine Sons!

Finally! It’s been about 24 hours since the release of the FINAL trailer of the Skywalker Saga! It’s more than we could take in. This WHOLE episode is all about it.

Including our Hot Takes, new poll and ANYTHING ELSE!
It’s TIME for Tatooine Sons!

There were more amazing moments in the trailer for The Rise of Skywalker than probably any other trailer in Star Wars history. We’re breaking it down and discussing what we believe are the 5 most important moments:

Finn
The Resistance Fleet
C-3PO
The Dagger
Palpatine

HOT TAKES:
The Rise of Skywalker has already broken a record set by Avengers: Endgame. Leaks and spoilers are flooding the internet. How are you handling those? And come on, is that blue guy on the Topps trading card really Matt Smith? It’s time for Hot Takes!

‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ outsells ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in first hour of presales on Atom Tickets
https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/22/star-wars-rise-of-skywalker-outsells-avengers-endgame-in-first-hour.html
“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” sold 45% more tickets during its first hour of presales on Atom Tickets than “Avengers: Endgame” did during its first hour earlier this year. Advanced tickets for the final installment of the Skywalker Saga became available on a number of digital ticketing sites, ahead of the trailer debut on Monday Night Football. This is a new record for Atom Tickets, the company said.

What’s your opening weekend box office projection?
There’s Been A Crazy The Rise of Skywalker Leak!
DON’T WORRY! We aren’t going to spoil anything! But these types of leaks are going to happen more and more as the film draws closer.
What’s YOUR definition of a “leak” or “spoiler?”
Is This TOPPS Card Showing Us Matt Smith in The Rise of Skywalker?
https://movieweb.com/rise-of-skywalker-matt-smith-character-topps-trading-cards/
From the word jump, it was believed that Matt Smith had a prominent role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. But then it was revealed by the actor himself that he wasn't actually in the movie. Many believed he was playing a young Emperor Palpatine, and that his role was being kept super secret. A new image has arrived from the sequel before tonight's big trailer launch. And many believe that it shows Matt Smith's true character. And it isn't Sheev Palpatine. In actuality, after looking at the image, there is still some mystery surrounding this strange blue alien. Nothing is known about him, other than he wears a funky space hat and breathing apparatus, as do some other prominent beings in the Star Wars galaxy. Matt Smith has denied vehemently that he even appears in J.J. Abram's saga ending finale. But some fans believe the truth lies within this latest leaked image.

Rank #16: Is Han Solo Rey’s Father? (And Other Rey Theories)

Podcast cover
Read more
Is Han Solo Rey’s Father? A rumor thread on Reddit has accomplished something that no Star Wars property has ever done before: unite Star Wars fans! (That’s what happens when you successfully dishonor Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Rey in one fell swoop).

Here’s the theory…

Rey is Han Solo's daughter, but she is NOT Leia Organa's daughter (and therefore is NOT a Skywalker). Leia and Han apparently became estranged when Leia began training with Luke. She didn’t complete her training and returned to Han. But Ben somehow knew of the affair (although not necessarily about Rey), and began acting out. After becoming completely uncontrollable, he was sent to his crazy religious zealot Uncle Luke, to help straighten him out.

The rumor goes on to say that Lando Calrissian tells Finn and Poe something and they're floored - and Jason (MSW) believes this scene to be related. Makes some sense as Lando is Han’s best friend.

This is supposedly how Finn and Poe find out who Rey is. He also specifies that they can’t tell Rey; that she needs to find out on her own.Jason connects this to how he has been told a flashback would reveal something completely “unexpected” about a “previous character.”

We pull on these rumor-strings to see if this has any merit, along with a few of the other prominent Rey theories - including a fresh twist on the Rey Skywalker theory that includes an important development from Thrawn: Alliances.

Rank #17: The Final Location in The Rise of Skywalker

Podcast cover
Read more
What is the final Location in The Rise of Skywalker? Last week, Kevin Smith was asked a throwaway question during an interview with IGN at San Diego Comic Con. What he said though, was anything but a throwaway. It’s got our heads spinning. And it’s all about the final scene of the Skywalker Saga.

Is it Yavin IV? Endor? Dagobah? We discuss all for the final Location in The Rise of Skywalker we can think of and come up with an ending for the Skywalker Saga that we believe is worthy of being labeled, "Mind Melting!"

Hot Takes:

The Original Star Wars was screened last month. Could we finally be getting the chance to see it again in theaters? Since R2-D2 has been around for the entire Skywalker Saga, what are the chances that Crazy Uncle George’s original idea ends The Rise of Skywalker? And is Terbus about to be made canon? It’s time for Hot Takes!

The Unaltered 'Star Wars: A New Hope' Could Be Headed Back to Theaters
Source: Inverse.com (https://www.inverse.com/article/57917-original-star-wars-a-new-hope-theatrical-release-unaltered
Last month, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had a double-screening of A New Hope and Rogue One, and apparently, the cut of A New Hope was a 1981 70mm print of the film, pre-special edition. People who went to the screening said that “A New Hope” was on the crawl, but other than that, this was the original film...now that the 20th Century Fox merger is complete, and Disney and Fox are — at least where Lucasfilm is concerned — the same company, it seems like some of these distribution rights stuff could go away. In other words, the company that originally distributed and produced Star Wars — Fox — is connected to Lucasfilm again. And, if George Lucas is okay with the Academy showing an old 1981 print of A New Hope to film critic people in Hollywood, then, maybe, just maybe, a new re-release of A New Hope is coming.

Should Star Wars 9 End With George Lucas’ Original R2-D2 Twist?
Source: ScreenRant.com (https://screenrant.com/star-wars-9-ending-r2d2-whills-george-lucas-twist/)
Star Wars 9 ends the Skywalker Saga, and it should use George Lucas’ original twist ending for the Star Wars franchise to do so. Lucas had initially planned to finish the story with a big reveal featuring R2-D2, and even though he abandoned the idea there’s now a chance for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to bring it back..."Originally, I was trying to have the story be told by somebody else; there was somebody watching this whole story and recording it, somebody probably wiser than the mortal players in the actual events. I eventually dropped this idea, and the concept behind the Whills turned into the Force. But the Whills became part of this massive amount of notes, quotes, background information that I used for the scripts; the stories were actually taken from the 'Journal of the Whills'.”...Later, Lucas expanded upon this, revealing that he believed the story of the Skywalker Saga was being relayed to a Keeper of the Whills by none other than R2-D2, taking place 100 years in the future. That makes some sense, since R2-D2 never had his memory wiped, so would recall everything, and it might also explain why R2-D2 is one of Star Wars' main heroes who frequently saves the day.

IDW Publishing proudly announces that October’s Star Wars Adventures #27 will debut a three-part storyline telling an untold chapter set between The Last Jedi and the thrilling conclusion to the Skywalker saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker! Issue #27 will debut a three-part monthly storyline by writer John Barber and artist Derek Charm, featuring the mighty Wookiees. With the New Republic devastated, the First Order launches an attack on the planet Kashyyyk, and Chewbacca takes up arms to defend his people! “It’s a thrill and an honor to get to tell this story with the amazing Derek Charm,” says Barber. “Chewie’s one of my favorite characters ever, for as long as I can remember. Having the opportunity to tell his story to a new generation of Star Wars fans – and all this leading up to the conclusion to the Skywalker saga — is one of the biggest thrills of my career.”

Rank #18: What Is The Force?

Podcast cover
Read more
Freddie Prinze Jr. stirred up fandom with his comments about Star Wars and the nature of The Force. We all have our thoughts on what it is and how it works, but what is the official position of Lucasfilm according to StarWars.com? We’ll break it down this week.

Plus, our Hot Takes, some exciting announcements about future guests, and some poll craziness.

https://www.starwars.com/databank/the-force

Why did an official Star Wars book say that the First Order hasn’t seen Kylo Ren’s face? Sequel Trilogy fans are asking “where’s Rose?” And Kanan Jarrus had some very direct things to say about Star Wars fandom. It’s time for Hot Takes!

Wait, The First Order Hasn’t Seen Kylo Ren’s Face?
https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2481871/star-wars-wait-the-first-order-hasnt-seen-kylo-rens-face
“Kylo Ren's helmet is designed in the style of the Knights of Ren. It is also reminiscent of the infamous mask of his grandfather, Darth Vader, connecting Kylo Ren to the dark side of his family heritage. The helmet conceals his former identity as Ben Solo (also obscured by the helmet's vocoder which makes his voice sound more threatening), and serves to intimidate both his enemies and his subordinates in the First Order. Beyond this and the protection it affords, the helmet has no special functions.” - Ultimate Star Wars New Edition
What about all those times Hux saw him? Or the others in The Last Jedi?
Where’s Rose?
https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2019/10/star-wars-wheres-rose-kelly-marie-tran
A movement of Star Wars fans has taken to sharing the hashtag #WheresRose due to the lack of inclusion of the controversial character in marketing and merch for The Rise of Skywalker. Our friend and previous guest, Anthony Breznican, has a great article about the importance of this character and the concerns about this on Vanity Fair.
There was no official comment from Disney consumer products, but a source close to the matter inside the company told Vanity Fair on background that the division takes the #WheresRose inclusivity concern seriously. Star Wars products draw from thousands of pieces of individual art that are meant to be mixed and matched, the source added, which is why the Rose Tico illustrations sometimes appear with the “Rebel” logo, and sometimes the logo is used on its own.
Are JJ, Lucasfilm and Disney writing Rose out of any prominence in The Rise of Skywalker?
Freddie Prinze Jr. Has Something to Say About The Force and Star Wars Fandom
https://news.avclub.com/sit-down-shut-up-and-let-freddie-prinze-jr-explain-t-1838958149
Freddie Prinze Jr. became famous as the high school hunk type in She's All That, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and even Scooby-Doo. But he's high-key a massive Star Wars nerd. He voiced tragic hero Kanan Jarrus in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Viewers aren't used to seeing his face in Star Wars movies, but he is very much part of the team -- and he's vocal about canon. Freddie is no casual fan, he will f-bomb shout you down in an epic canon rant, angrily explaining how The Force works and blasting fanfiction bullshit about "Gray Jedi."
"Star Wars is for (expletive) kids," he says, and Freddie Prinze Jr. may have been channeling an R-rated version of George Lucas there. Lucas himself reportedly said Star Wars was a film for 12-year-olds, sharing lessons of friendship, honesty, trust, doing the right thing, living in the light, and avoiding the dark side. But Prinze is very much an adult at 43-years-old and still a huge Star Wars fan. He's as invested as a Star Wars fan gets, dropping truths from George Lucas and dissecting fan theories and complaints.
“I did a Star Wars cartoon so even I get hate from Star Wars fans. But I'm like, look, you're just mad the franchise isn't aging with you. But that ain't how it works. The first one was for (expletive) kids. The second three were for different (expletive) kids and this one is for kids. You're just pissed off Han Solo gave Millennium Falcon to a girl. That's it! Because Luke Skywalker is Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty! He can talk to things that don't speak English, and he understands what they're (expletive) saying, he gets a fairy godfather instead of a fairy godmother, who teaches him how to be the best Jedi in the world in no time (expletive) flat.
What do you think about Freddie’s comments?

While everyone was losing their mind over lightsaber duals, a hundred Imperial Star Destroyers, and Dark Rey, an important clue in the D23 Sizzle Reel for The Rise of Skywalker might have slipped past most fans. We’re going to try to figure out that red ribbon Rey is holding, and why it’s showing up all around the new canon. Plus, we’ll talk about some Hot Takes and more. Now that we’ve had a few days to review the D23 Sizzle Reel for The Rise of Skywalker, there’s a sequence within it that might indicate something very important. And even more, it’s connected to an experience at Galaxy’s Edge, and two novels recently released. Get ready, Reylos. We’re about to dig into this.
HOT TAKES!

JJ Abrams is talking about Rian Johnson and The Last Jedi. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni keep hiding more and more easter eggs in The Mandalorian. And could the cave sequence in The Last Jedi hint at Mortis? It’s time for Hot Takes!

J.J. Abrams Says ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Didn’t Ruin His Plans for ‘The Rise of Skywalker’
https://www.slashfilm.com/star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker-ending-wasnt-ruined-by-the-last-jedi/
There has been a ton of speculation regarding how J.J. Abrams will deal with the story developments from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And for everyone who thought that Abrams had to fix or undo what Rian Johnson did with his Star Wars sequel in order to make the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ending work, think again. In a red carpet interview from The D23 Expo last weekend, J.J. Abrams said, despite what some fans think, The Last Jedi didn’t change anything about the trajectory of the story that the director envisioned when he started working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Abrams told The Associated Press (via ET Canada): “The story that we’re telling, the story that we started to conceive when we did ‘The Force Awakens,’ was allowed to continue. Episode VIII didn’t really derail anything that we were thinking about."
The Mandalorian Is Bringing a Deep Cut Star Wars Creature Back to Live-Action
https://io9.gizmodo.com/the-mandalorian-is-bringing-a-deep-cut-star-wars-creatu-1837713272
The more we hear about The Mandalorian, the more it feels like executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni made it their own personal Star Wars playground. Even seeing only a few brief minutes, we already know the show solves the mystery of Willow Hood’s ice cream maker, brings back IG bounty hunter droids in a big way, references the Star Wars Holiday Special, and god knows what else. The latest revelation is that the show will reintroduce another deep cut Star Wars alien. In an interview with MTV News, Favreau confirmed that The Mandalorian will have blurrgs. What are blurrgs? They’re two-legged, big-headed creatures that people ride or use for labor. Kind of like a super ugly horse of the Star Wars universe. Blurrgs first appeared in Ewoks: The Battle of Endor, which is not canon, but Filoni made them canon when he introduced them in The Clone Wars animated series. They’ve also appeared on Star Wars Rebels and in a few video games.
The Last Jedi's  'Clone Wars' Easter Egg May Hint at Rey's Arc in 'Star Wars 9'
https://www.inverse.com/article/58907-star-wars-9-spoilers-last-jedi-clone-wars-easter-egg-mortis
While everyone has been understandably preoccupied with Rey’s vision in the The Last Jedi — what with the “Dark Rey” comparisons, visions of the future, and what it all means — another fan noticed an Easter egg that hasn’t been discussed enough: the hand gestures Rey makes in the vision look eerily similar to those seen on Mortis in the Clone Wars animated series. Redditor u/In_eyes_of_munin posted an image comparing the two and the similarities are really creepy. Rey showcases all three of the gestures and it seems to come naturally to her.

Rank #20: Is Rian Johnson's Trilogy Dead? (NO!)

Podcast cover

Is Rian Johnson's Star Wars trilogy dead? Last week, Disney announced its future slate of movies including three "untitled" Star Wars films being released December 2022, 2024 and 2026. Along with this announcement, came the returning questions about Rian Johnson's previously announced trilogy.YouTubers and bloggers immediately began declaring that these announced films could only be the highly anticipated series being written and produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the producers of the mega-hit TV series Game of Thrones. But could all of this really mean that Rian Johnson's trilogy is dead? Or is this nothing more than wishful thinking from haters of The Last Jedi? We separate fact from fiction and throw in a little informed speculation to determine what we believe is and isn't going on.

Hot Takes:
Star Wars: Tie Fighter Comics series shifts the perspective in a very interesting way. Up until now, fans have almost exclusively seen Star Wars from the perspective of the Rebellion and the Jedi. But Tie Fighter aims to make heroes of the Empire.

Pedro Pascal, who played Oberyn Martell on the fourth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, believes that the fantasy mega series owes its popularity to Star Wars. “I see enormous parallels between the world of Star Wars and the world of Game of Thrones,” Pascal said. “Game of Thrones might not exist if not for Star Wars, in the way that this world-building genre [took] science fiction to a new level in the way that Game of Thrones takes fantasy to a new level. And the way that it represents such concrete realities that we live in, although the irony being that it’s science fiction and fantasy.” Games of Thrones is becoming more and more connected to Star Wars. Gwendoline Christie (who played Captain Phasma in the Sequel Trilogy) and Emilia Clarke (who played Qira in Solo: A Star Wars Story)  are stars of the series. And of course the shows producers are currently “crafting” a series of Star Wars films.

Chris Avellone, best known for his work on the wildly popular Knights of the Old Republic video game, has been announced to be a writer for the highly anticipated Jedi: Fallen Order being released this November. And while this will make many Star Wars fans happy, his recent comments regarding The Last Jedi are sure to ruffle some feathers. In an interview with VideoGameChronicle.com, Avellone said: “I thought that portrayal of Luke Skywalker was very weak. I thought they gave him a scapegoat role that wasn’t merited and didn’t fit with his character, in my opinion. I like the fact that they were playing around with it, but at the same time I didn’t like the execution and I thought it could have been handled a lot better or differently.” Avellone went on to say that he felt that many of the characters and plot decision were subpar. “I also thought it was a case of comedy goes too far, side characters and massive detour plots were rapidly introduced… I liked what they were trying to do, I just didn’t like how it was executed.”

We’re celebrating the release of Jedi: Fallen Order, the latest in a long line of Star Wars games! But which games do WE think are the best in the series? We’re sharing our Unofficial Top 5 Star Wars games - along with a few honorable mentions - next.

https://www.mandatory.com/culture/1533622-10-best-star-wars-games#1

- LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga: While not the most complex of titles, the LEGO Star Wars series has been delivering enjoyable fun for the whole family for over a decade now. Getting to reenact your favorite scenes from the various films is a blast, and The Complete Saga includes all six of the George Lucas directed pictures.
- Star Wars (1983): For many older gamers, this is the title that immediately comes to mind when they think about the best Star Wars games. This first-person rail shooter was an amazing experience in arcades, especially if you were lucky enough to play the version that came in a cockpit. Sure, the vector graphics are rather simple when compared to games today, but it's still a thrill to shoot down the Death Star.
- Star Wars: Battlefront II (2017): Jump into the boots of an elite special forces soldier, equally lethal on the ground and space, in an emotionally gripping new Star Wars campaign that spans over 30 years and bridges events between the films’ Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: The Force Unleashed, and its sequel, was the last real big-budget action game before Jedi: Fallen Order. While it isn't the most polished experience, and the protagonist has the ridiculous name of Starkiller, it's still a fun romp through various parts of the Star Wars universe. The story, which is continued in its sequel, is also much more interesting than it probably should be.
-Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Easily the best Star Wars game ever made, Knights of the Old Republic is a fantastic action role-playing game by BioWare. The developer also made an excellent sequel, but they would later go on to create both Mass Effect and Dragon Age. While it isn't a graphical powerhouse, the strong writing still resonates today and there's an excellent story for fans to take in.
Honorable Mentions:
- Star Wars Episode 1: Racer
- Star Wars: Dark Forces
- Star Wars: Battlefront II (2005)

The Best Star Wars Podcast

By MCU HQ - Dec 31 2019

I have been hooked ever since meeting the crew on Triple Force Friday. This is my go-to Star Wars podcast. It's fun, family-friendly, and very informative. With so much drama in the community, it's nice to hear a group of people who love Star Wars and love talking about it without their being chaos. This podcast is great for Star Wars fans of all ages and I imagine it would be equally as great for people who are just beginning their Star Wars journey.
