The conversation continues with Season 2. Welcome to #AfterHoursAfrica S2. E1. ft Black Motion

Black Motion is a musical brotherhood pioneered by the maverick Robert “Murdah” Mohosana and his spirit brother in life and music Damanola Thabo “Smol” Mabogwane. They are both from Soshanguve in Pretoria, South Africa, which is the precise location from where their love and interest in music was nurtured as far back as 1999. They would often meet in a shack after school and listen to music in their homemade studio. They recall watching television shows like Jam Alley, Studio Mix, Selimathunzi and YoTV and wishing they could be there. Unknown to them, those very desires would project and propel them straight to a world of authentic musical connection.

Ryan Murgatroyd is an electronic music producer & songwriter from South Africa. Ryan Murgatroyd is starting to see the benefits of an entire lifetime consumed by, and immersed in, electronic music. In 2004 Ryan rose to global prominence when his first ever release, Funk Country, was awarded the accolade of BBC Radio 1’s ‘Essential New Tune’. Shortly after this, Toolroom Records confirmed the signing of another of his singles, ‘Music Make Me Feel’ which gained a lot of attention locally and abroad. Despite this new founded success, Ryan shifted his focus from Europe and devoted his efforts towards his South African projects, including the creation of a chart topping alias and string of successful music education ventures. A decade later, Ryan re-embarked into the European music scene with his release ‘Bantwana's Piano’ on Simon Dunmore‘s Defected Records. With its success, DJ Mag dubbed the release “a towering achievement in the landscape of modern house music”. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Rank #10: After Hours ft J'Something

A singer. A cook. An entrepreneur. And most importantly somebody who aspires to be a good human being. His professional career in music started in 2011 when him and his band, Mi Casa released their hit single that went onto win Record of the Year, These Streets. Since then, year after year Mi Casa has maintained relevancy and dominated charts with ridiculous ease. Him and his band have won several awards from around the world and sold multiple platinum records. Mi Casa has traveled to over 30 African countries, toured Europe countless times, and even performed at the second inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington DC. It was in the midst of all of this that J started to develop a passion for cooking as a mere hobby from the comfort of his home. In 2014, the singer innocently posted a picture of a meal he had cooked at home using the hashtag #SomethingsCooking, that was when he unintentionally launched his successful career in food. From a hashtag to award TV shows, a 3 times best seller cookbook, to a restaurant as well as cooking alongside world food greats such as Marco Pierre-White, Jan, David Higgs, and many more. The musician/foodie has recently launched Something’s Cooking TV, a youtube platform, so that other food enthusiasts and creatives can have a platform to share their talents with the world. He has consistently spread the message of humility, hard work, and positivity. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
