After attending a business event over the past week, I realized something; I’ve been playing small.  The truth is we all do it at times.  We sell ourselves short out of fear of failure.  This isn’t just relegated to business. It extends to every aspect of our lives.  When we act out of insecurity and scarcity, it only creates more insecurity and scarcity.  The only true way to free yourself from playing small is to recognize it in the moment and push through the fear that is holding you back.  I can guarantee it’ll be scary.  You might even be terrified.  But giving into the fear will only keep you stuck.

While doing a training program with the Navy SEALs in 2015, Jesse was introduced to the concept of embracing the suck.  It means you have to be willing to suck at something long enough that you can become good at it.  It seems like such a simple concept, but so many people struggle with this.  A lot of business owners hold themselves back because they won’t take action until they’re perfect at something.  For example, many of Jesse’s clients come to him wanting to start leveraging their social media profile to get clients.  Jesse usually suggests putting themselves out there using live videos.  That’s where people get scared.  There’s no edit button, just them, putting themselves out there, being vulnerable.  You probably will suck at first, Jesse did.  But, you have to embrace the suck so that you can begin to master it.

Jesse gets asked about his morning routine often. Today, he’s sharing 7 basics that he does every day.  First thing upon waking up, Jesse drinks 30-40 ounces of hydrogen water.  That’s before coffee or anything. Once he’s hydrated and ready to go, Jesse takes a walk.  He stacks other habits on his walk, such as taking time to pray and listen to worship music. He likes to have a goal review each day and asks himself if what he’s doing is getting him closer to his goals.  He also does something called a daily reframe. Furthermore, he thinks it’s important to learn, listen, and read something each day.  We should always be learning and investing into our lives. Just hearing these habits won’t help you.  You need to discover your goal, and reverse engineer to find what habits will get you closer to where you want to be.

For the past 10 weeks, Jesse has been doing something new: walking. He’s found it to be a powerful way to begin his day, and he intends to keep it as a habit.  It started when he realized he wasn’t getting fast enough results at the gym.  Instead of blaming it on getting older, Jesse looked at what changed as he got older.  He realized he sat behind a desk more and moved a lot less.  So, now he tries to aim for at least 10,000 steps a day. It’s the first thing he does every morning, and he stacks other habits with it.  On his morning walk he can be found, praying, listening to worship music, or listening to an audiobook.  Walking gifts Jesse with physical, mental, and spiritual benefits. Try walking for 15-20 minutes after each meal and see how you feel.
