Emily was very interruptive towards the guest. I couldn’t listen to her story at all. I am a first time listener, and based on the review from the majority I will listen to one more podcast. I don’t recommend SISILIA PIRING you would just hear so much interruptions even the guest seems annoyed.

Hey, vintage lovers, I’m Emily Stochl and this is Pre-Loved Podcast -- the show about rad vintage style and guests you’ll want to go thrifting with.

I’m spending the month of August bopping around Europe from Berlin to Budapest with my husband, Curtis -- if you want to see what we get up to follow me over on Instagram where I’m @brumeanddaisy, for all the fun.

But while I’m gone I don’t want you to miss out on your weekly Pre-Loved Podcast, so I’ve got a rerelease for you-- a popular episode from the show’s first season!

It’s with Annette, the editor of A Vintage Splendor, a lifestyle blog which showcases her vintage meets modern personal style. Looking back on this episode, I love our chat about thrifting in the Los Angeles area, how to rock the flea market, and scour eBay for amazing pieces. Listening to Annette’s tips on thrifting is like truly getting a thrift education!

Plus, as a little bonus, we hopped on the line to catch up and chat about what Annette’s up to this summer. She gives us the scoop on her latest finds, where she’s getting style inspiration, and all that good stuff! You’ll find that update at the end of the episode.

Whether you’re a long-time listener of the show, or brand new, thanks for tuning in and let’s dive in to this episode with Annette!

Pre-Loved Podcast: Jessie Witte

This week’s guest is Jessie Witte. I got to meet Jessie when I travelled to Minneapolis for the Minneapolis Vintage Market. She’s owned the vintage business Audrey Rose Vintage for almost 10 years, and today she has a studio in the Northrup King Building in Minneapolis -- it was so awesome to see her space in person! She has an amazing collection of occasion ware and one-of-a-kind pieces. She also offers personal styling appointments, and has the perfect personality for it. She knows how to make everyone feel at home.

You can really feel that on this episode. Jessie and I got to chatting like old friends, about everything from running a vintage, to creative inspiration, to hospitality, to following your dreams. She’s such a warm, delightful person, and I know you’re going to love this one. Let’s dive right in!

Pre-Loved Podcast: David, Sammy, Yayra and Kwamena

Hey, vintage lovers, I’m Emily Stochl and this is Pre-Loved Podcast -- the show about rad vintage style and guests you’ll want to go thrifting with.

Thanks for joining us! Last week, we heard from Liz Rickett, co-founder of the OR Foundation, and we had a conversation that I hope brought some nuance to your understanding of the global second-hand industry, including the industry in Accra, Ghana.

Today we’re joined by four Ghanians: David, Sammy, Yayra and Kwamena. All have different stories to tell in the second-hand sphere.

First up, you’ll hear from David Adams. David’s family has run a second-hand clothing business in Kantamanto Market in Ghana for over thirty years. After finishing his degree, David took the helm of the business in 2014. He told us a bit about his business at Kantamanto, and what his day-to-day as a reseller looks like. Since David’s family has been in this industry for so long, I also wanted to get his perspective on how things have changed in the last 30 years. You’ll hear all this and more coming up on the show.

Then, we have Sammy. Sammy is graduate of Radford University of Fashion, and today he’s a fashion designer and member of the Board of Fashion Ghana. His sustainable streetwear brand utilizes upcycled clothing from Kantamanto Market.

Finally, we have Yayra and Kwamena of The Revival and Afro District. These two are vintage wizards. They have spent years sourcing gems from Kantamanto for resale, repair, upcycling and styling. Over the last year they have focused their efforts on promoting a culture of upcycling using clothing that cannot be sold in Kantamanto. Let’s hear from them now

Let’s dive right in!

Pre-Loved Podcast: Liz Ricketts

Today I’m speaking with Liz Ricketts, co-founder of the OR Foundation. Liz comes from a background in the fashion industry, working as a consultant for several fair trade and eco-fashion startups, working in vintage boutiques, and producing sustainable fashion shows. But she was moved to develop her unique path in the fashion industry when she witnessed the undervaluation of designers and their creations at the highest levels of the industry.

She saw all around her that the dominant consumer relationship with fashion is one of excess and exploitation, and wanted to manifest alternatives.

Through her work with The OR Foundation Liz has traced that undervaluation through to the secondhand clothing trade, specifically in Accra, Ghana where The OR Foundation has concentrated an intensive multi-year research effort into Kantamanto Market, one of the largest

secondhand clothing markets in the world.

Through this research project called Dead White Man’s Clothes, Liz and her collaborators have expanded perspectives across borders and beyond single stories to show the deep complexities of a global trade in secondhand clothes that serves as both an unsung tool of global waste management and the future of sustainable fashion.

On today’s show, we really dive into Kantamanto, and the industry in Accra, “global recycling,” the concept of waste management, colonialism, agency, equity, and more. And be sure to tune in next week, because we will hear more perspectives and voices from Kantamanto, and you don’t want to miss it!

Pre-Loved Podcast: International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union

This show is for all my fellow history-lovers out there, and it’s one I have wanted to do for ages. It’s about the International Ladies Garment Workers Union -- vintage lovers will know, we hunt for those ILGWU tags!

Today I’m joined by Dr. Nick Juravich, who is an Assistant Professor of History and Labor Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Professor Juravich’s research interests include labor history, public history, urban history, the history of education, and the history of social movements in the twentieth-century United States. He teaches courses on labor and working-class history, public history and public memory, the history of public schooling, and the history of Greater Boston.

Before coming to UMass Boston, he was the Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Women’s History at the New-York Historical Society, where he curated the exhibition Ladies Garments, Women’s Work, Women’s Activism, which exhibited in 2019, and that’s how I came across his work, and why I asked him to join me on this episode.

In this episode, we talk about the role of the ILGWU in labor history, and how it revolutionized garment work in the United States. We discuss why consumers were trained to “look for the union label” and Nick shares some of the amazing stories he discovered researching the exhibition. We close out with a discussion of labor movements and activism today. Thanks, Nick, for coming on. Listeners, I think you’re really going to enjoy this one.

Pre-Loved Podcast: Jordan Jones

Let’s talk about today’s guest -- today I’m speaking with my friend Jordan, or @misshoneylavender! So, this episode is a tiny bit bittersweet, because I was supposed to be recording it with Jordan in Portland -- I was going out to stay with her and we had a whole weekend of thrift and vintage planned around attending the Sustainable Fashion Forum. It’ll have to wait until next year!

But I’m just glad to have her on because this chat seriously brightened my days. So, a bit about Jordan. She’s a Portland, Oregon based hair-stylist, blogger, and jewelry maker -- a multi-talented artistic lady. Her content focuses on sustainable lifestyle, slow fashion, clean beauty, and of course vintage and thrift!

We talk about all this and more special stories on today’s show. Thanks for listening, and let’s dive right in!

Anna is a longtime fashion lover, vintage connoisseur, and Area Manager for Buffalo Exchange. Secondhand shopping opened up a whole new world of unique personal style and incredible vintage finds. She was hooked! After college, she had planned to go to law school, but started working at Buffalo Exchange and quickly fell in love with the diverse clothing and amazing customers. She quickly realized she was way more passionate about great style and second hand clothes than jurisprudence!

Anna has now been with Buffalo Exchange for over 12 years and has turned her love of sustainable fashion and unique vintage clothing into her dream career.

  • Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do. — Steve Jobs, 1997

SISILIA PIRING

By Pahkyu - Jan 08 2020

Emily was very interruptive towards the guest. I couldn’t listen to her story at all. I am a first time listener, and based on the review from the majority I will listen to one more podcast. I don’t recommend SISILIA PIRING you would just hear so much interruptions even the guest seems annoyed.
