An American Werewolf In London

Hey Scaredy Cats.  In our last episode, we started our werewolf tour on the gritty streets of Los Angeles and the remote, rustic getaway known as the Colony.  The tour continues as we travel to England, starting out on the mysterious moors before ending up in hustle and bustle of London.  We may have talked about it just a bit in our episode on the Howling, but put on a pot of tea, grab your backpack and join us as we take on An American Werewolf In London.  The Howling pack is reunited as we are once again joined by werewolf aficionados , Jessica and Brian.  Jessica has written articles for Film Cred, Nightmarish Conjurings and Grim, has a podcast called Monster Books Podcast, and has a horror comics column on Daily Grindhouse.  Brian Keiper is a regular contributor to Bloody Disgusting, Manor Vellum and Council of Zoom and co-host of the Movies for Life Podcast.  Contact/Follow Us Email: scaredycats.podcats@gmail.comTwitter: @CatsScaredyInstagram: @scaredycatsthepodcastYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZaoOcdQ3bSS3iTFLhO4A2QGive our guest hosts a follow as well!  Jessica:Twitter: @WeWhoWalkHereBrian:Twitter: @BrianDKeiperMovies For Life:Twitter: @MoviesLifePodSupport the show (https://www.paypal.me/scaredysherri)

The Howling

Hey Scaredy Cats.  The eighties were all about the werewolf movie.   You had Teen Wolf, Full Moon High, Teen Wolf Too, The Company of Wolves, and Silver Bullet.  There was one year that beat them all.  With not one, but three werewolf movies coming out, 1981 was a banner year if you liked to howl at the moon.  There was Howlen, An American Werewolf In London and the movie we’re going to talk about today, The Howling.  Joining the pack to discuss the Howling are return guests, Jessica and Brian. Contact/Follow Us Email: scaredycats.podcats@gmail.comTwitter: @CatsScaredyInstagram: @scaredycatsthepodcastYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZaoOcdQ3bSS3iTFLhO4A2Qive our guest hosts a follow as well!  Jessica:Twitter: @WeWhoWalkHereBrian:Twitter: @BrianDKeiperMovies For Life:Twitter: @MoviesLifePodSupport the show (https://www.paypal.me/scaredysherri)

The Exorcist

Hey Scaredy Cats.  Once I got into horror, there was one movie that I purposely avoided watching because the sheer idea of it scared me.  Once I finally got up the nerve to watch it, I was terrified.  That movie?  The Exorcist.  The first horror film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, it was nominated for nine other Academy Awards, eventually winning Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Sound.  It’s one of those movies that are rumoured to be cursed and when it was released in theatres, there were reports of heart attacks and miscarriages.  On top of all of that, evangelist Billy Graham claimed a real demon lived in the celluloid reels of the movie.  It’s a beautiful day for an exorcism, so join us as we fight the forces of evil.  Joining us for this episode are some devilishly good guests!  From the podcast, I Hate Your Taste in Movies, avowed non-horror fan Austin Lamarche. Austin:Twitter: @Austin91I Hate Your Taste In Movies:Twitter: @ihateyourtasteBrian:Twitter: @BrianDKeiperMovies For Life:Twitter: @MoviesLifePodSupport the show (https://www.paypal.me/scaredysherri)

April Fool's Day

Hey Scaredy Cats! In France, the movie we’re about to talk about was called Weekend of Terror.  In Germany, it was titled The Horror Party.  It has a cult following and has been compared to the storyline of the Agatha Christie novel, And Then There Were None.  It’s a slasher unlike any other – with a distinct lack of on screen violence.  I distinctly remember going into my neighbourhood video store and being drawn in by the awesome VHS cover… a woman has her back to the camera, her ponytail shaped into a noose as she holds a dagger behind her back.  It is a masterpiece.  Join us as we visit Muffy St John on her private island and see how the 1% live… it’s time to celebrate April Fool’s Day.  Joining us for this island adventure filled with surprises are Ryan of the Social Distance Horror Club and the hosts of Bunk 237: Ahhh! Poltergeist

Hey Scaredy Cats.  The movie we’re about to cover was definitely one my sleep-deprived parents would never have let me watch.  It’s spawned a few sequels, a remake and a tv series.  The Chicago Film Critics Association ranked it as the 20th scariest film ever made.  It also has a lot of tragedy surrounding it, leading some people to think it’s cursed.  Add to that controversy over who ACTUALLY directed it and you’ve got yourself a legendary horror movie.  It’s time to meet some noisy ghosts as we talk about Poltergeist.  Joining us for this episode, we have Crystal, a veteran Scaredy Cat and Jon of Tale of the Manticore RPG podcast. Crystal:Instagram: @pizzapartyisbrokenTwitter: @CrysOlson Jon:Instagram: @taleofthemanticorepodcastTwitter: @manticoretaleApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tale-manticore-dark-fantasy-dungeons-dragons-audiodrama/id1506247097Support the show (https://www.paypal.me/scaredysherri)

Host

Hey Scaredy Cats!  It’s now been over a year since COVID-19 changed the world we live in.  People have been physically isolated and had to find new ways to communicate and stay connected to family and friends.  Zoom became a HUGE deal.   One of the best things about movies, horror in particular, is the way that they can take current events and make them into a something remarkable.  In this episode we’re going to talk about a movie that was shot entirely in quarantine.  It’s a movie about social isolation and lockdown and damn, it is scary.  It hit a lot of best of lists for 2020 and for good reason.  Light your candles, visualize your circle and get ready to talk about Host.  Joining us for this episode are Nik and Ariana – polar opposites when it comes to the topic of séances. ArianaTwitter and Instagram: @ariandthecityNikTwitter: @headassnikInstagram: @nllaverdeSupport the show (https://www.paypal.me/scaredysherri)

Promising Young Woman

TW: this episode contains references to multiple forms of trauma [SA, MH, r*pe, violence, mention of su*c*de, misogyny) and could be triggering to some people.   Hey Scaredy Cats.  This was a tough one - Promising Young Woman deals with heavy subject matter and this episode will be inherently graphic as we discuss rape, misogyny, violence and suicide.   This is not your ordinary Scaredy Cats episode and while it was an important conversation to have, it wasn't an easy conversation.    Promising Young Woman is an incredibly tense and powerful movie that takes a whole lot of genres and twists them into something new.  It’s been described as a “revenge thriller romantic comedy” by Men’s Health.  If that sounds impossible, go watch it and get back to me because it’s the perfect description.    Joining us for the episode are Ariana, Nik, and Samantha. Need help?  Know that you are not alone.  call 1 800 656 HOPE to reach the National Sexual Assault Telephone Hotline (United States)visit online.rainn.org to receive support via confidential online chatText HOME to 686868 in Canada to reach the Crisis Text Line Follow us on social media!Twitter: @catsscaredyInstagram: @scaredycatsthepodcastFacebook: @scaredycatsthepodcastGive our guest hosts a follow as well!  ArianaTwitter and Instagram: @ariandthecityNikTwitter: @headassnikInstagram: @nllaverdeSamantha:Instagram: @amethystheart1018Support the show (https://www.paypal.me/scaredysherri)
