LNNL EP #025 National Plan for a Vacation Day - Stress Free Packing For Your Travels

Podcast cover
Read more

Happy National Plan for a Vacation Day! Along with a new year might just mean some new travel plans.   Whether you're about to take a vacation with your honey or go on a full blown family excursion, packing can be a real drag. One of the things I've always loved best about this season is that we get to travel around with our friends and loved ones but if you're anything like me, packing for a trip can become quite a conundrum.     Today's episode will cover the tips to pack with ease.  Sometimes packing for a trip can seem a bit daunting.  Not only do we own way too many things, we seem to want to take everything along with us.    Unfortunately, we just can't empty out our homes when we travel on the road.  So, what's one to do?  One of the things is to always have a master packing list available at your fingertips.   This list has been a life saver and has saved me many hours of needless pain and agony over traveling.  I'd like to share it with you here today.  When its time to pack, I just print a new copy of the list and viola, packing becomes a breeze.   Click the link below for a downloadable copy of this list here -- be sure to print out several copies before you go: "The Ultimate Packing Checklist" (just scroll to the bottom of the page and fill out your name and email and a copy will be sent to your inbox).   I've always been a bit envious of the folks that can just pack up a small bag and disappear on their journeys for weeks at a time.  Unfortunately as a fashion stylist, my wardrobe has grown along with my tastes.  Not only do I want to pack fabulous items to wear while away, I also work to have them work and be functional as well and, nowadays the number of electronic devices we use, there's so many things to possibly leave out. Over the past 20 years of working in the travel, entertainment and meeting planning industry, I've learned a thing or two about the art of packing and today I'm going to cover some of them right here in this episode.     Here are some of my favorite accessories to help make packing a breeze:   Packing Cubes Carry On Luggage Travel Size Containers Travel Packing Accessories Travel Charging Stations Travel Power Chargers Travel Laptop Cases Travel Pillows Here are some of the hair and beauty products that are great for travel:   Aveda Sun Care Hair Masque So take a listen, get packing and get on the road again.   Happy Travels,   Live Peacefully, Happily, Lovingly & Successfully,   Namaste! LNNL EP#036 Happy Nat'l Tequila Day!!

Podcast cover
Read more

Today is National Tequila Day.  Tequila is one of my favorite drinks.  The first time I ever had it was in Mexico back in 1983.  Have you ever seen the worm at the bottle of Tequila?  It freaked me out the first time I saw one.  Couldn't believe that people actually drank it. Tequila is made from the blue agave plant which is harvested by hand.  It's stripped down and ground up in a stone bowl and then the extract is collected and distilled.  One of my favorite brands is Herradura Tequila it's smooth and best when chilled. How can you celebrate Tequila Day?  Well, if you have a Bahama Breeze restaurant near you, they're offering $5 Margaritas 7/24 - 7/26.  Better yet, pick up Or, pick up a nice bottle of tequila (see above link) and make them at home with some fresh squeezed lime juice and simple sugar, blend with ice and viola - you're Margarita.  You can also add fruit of your choice.  I just love a Strawberry Margarita.  Be sure to call over some friends, and have them bring the Guacamole, chips and Salsa dip, put on some Mexican tunes and get in the groove.  You could also go for a tequila tasting.  Check out your local libation stores to see if anyone is running one.   Have fun, share some of your Margarita or Tequila drinks and remember to always drink responsibly. Cheers, Dawn-Marie XO

When the pressure is on, it's easy for us to crack under it.  Are you able to remain calm and poised or do you fly off the handle like a madman when things are getting out of whack? I used to be the second one above many, many years ago and then I quickly learned that it wasn't going to do my health any good so I learned how to adjust and become more peaceful when handling stress. It's never easy when we're faced with challenging moments.  Our fight or flight response will always kick into high gear leaving us frazzled and exhausted.   Today's quick episode contains a podcast I did about this topic,  then I actually had a challenging moment, and I recorded another message while I was in the thick of it.     Remember when you're in that stress zone to stay as calm as possible and remember "this too shall pass".   Here are some books on the subject that will help with all of the above: When Life Sucks Stress Proof Stress Management...   Hang in there my friends and think Zen!!   Love, Dawn-Marie XO

Today I speak about a few ways you can quickly Turn on Your Star Power: I share a few ways you can do some Spring wardrobe-closet clearing and get your wardrobe up to date and ready for the summer days to come.  Try out some new makeup colors.  We get in a rut sometimes and continue to wear the same colors and products.  Get to a counter near you and have them do a small makeup lesson on what colors you can wear now. Relieve some stress by taking a time out and do something fun.  Have a date night with your partner and enjoy the time together. Take a different route to work or to school.  You'll never know what you might just find that you didn't know exist.  It might just be your next favorite hang out spot. Watch a sunset and let the stresses of the day roll off of you.  Add some fun accessories to your life, they can really make or break your outfit.  Try something a little bit more bold than you would usually wear.  H&M and Forever 21 are two of my favorite places to shop for trendy accessories and inexpensively as well. And so much more. LNNL EP#029 How to Survive an Extended Stay in the Hospital

Podcast cover
Read more

How to Survive an Extended Stay in a Hospital   It was three days after Christmas, December 28, 2017.  I was just about to go to bed and I fell violently ill.   I started having severe pain in my abdomen and even though I had vomited, I was still in some serious pain.  I was also having trouble breathing and nothing was subsiding and I knew I was in trouble.  My boyfriend had gone home to sleep at his apartment that evening.  Fortunately, we live in the same complex, but didn't want to wake him until he was up for work, which is unusually early, 4:30 AM.  I phoned him at 5:00 AM and told him how badly I felt and asked him if he would drive me to the emergency room.  Thankfully the hospital was a close ride from home.   I knew I wasn't going to get better until I went to the emergency room at the hospital to find out what was wrong with me. I was so grateful that the emergency room was empty and I was seen very quickly.  They sent me in for a Cat Scan of my stomach and found I had Gallbladder, Gallstones and Pancreatitis.  They immediately checked me into the hospital.  My boyfriend Jesse was so scared.  I felt so bad for him. The hospital I was checked into is only a couple of years old and beautifully done.  I had my own room and the staff was such a blessing. They were ever so pleasant and really helped me out.  This made for a much nicer stay than I feared. The first thing I asked Jesse to bring me from my home were the following items (you might want to keep an emergency list in case you ever need to, I pray you never do, but, life is so unpredictable):   - iPad and charger -Mini laptop bag including charger and mouse -Message recorder (in case I had the urge to do a podcast-- which was how I thought of this episode) -Cell phone charger -My makeup face charts, sketch pad and colored pencils with sharpener -All chargers for my electronics, cell phone, etc. -Flip flops, nail file and clipper, hair brush, several pair of underwear, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, hair brush and comb and skin moisturizer and a pair of tweezers -A few copies of the latest fashion magazines and books I was in the process of reading. I had a feeling I would be detained for a while and didn't know exactly for how long so I wanted to be prepared.  I was only allowed to eat ice chips for the first 72 hours.  They couldn't operate on my gallbladder at this time because of the severe case of pancreatitis that I had.  After the fifth day, they had to transfer me to a different hospital.  This one had a pancreas specialist who specialized in pancreas surgery.  They weren't sure if they'd have to operate on my pancreas or not.  I wasn't thrilled about this move as I knew that the hospital they were transferring me to was not  as new, clean or nice as the one I was currently in.  Sure enough, when I got to my room at the other hospital, there was a woman putting sheets on my bed and I noticed two holes in the sheet and asked her for another set.  Then I took a look at the old and dingy bathroom and saw in the corner on the floor there was this dirt and asked her to have someone in to clean it.  I was very afraid of getting Mercer as I knew a neighbor woman who lived downstairs from me, she went into the hospital for one thing and died because of contracting Mercer.   Another thing I did, was each time they took me out of my room, I made sure I put on a mask to cover to my mouth (ask the nurses for these).  This can help you out tremendously from picking up any other germs visitors or patients may have while they wheel you around the halls for testing, etc. Well, that's all for today.   I wish you a very healthy life and that you will never have to endure an extended stay in the hospital. Remember to live healthy, happily, lovingly, peacefully and successfully  With much love,   Dawn-Marie XO

Most of us today have a home office today, they're not only for the wealthy or for those who work from home.  Some have home offices so that there's a place to write out the monthly bills or just have time alone to read a book. Today is #National Organize Your Home Day.  So, I want to give you a few tips on how you can quickly organize your home office so that you can revel and enjoy the space. If it's full of clutter, the first thing I want you to do is turn on some music that will pump you up, grab a large trash bag and toss out the following items: Unread Magazines Toss papers that you no longer have a need for Any soda cans or empty snack bags Next step is to clear off your desk, even if it means you need to make piles and put them on the floor until you find a home for them.  I want you to be able to work on that desk.  Do you have a calendar for 2018?  Is it on your desk?  If not, where is it?  Pull it out and place it on your desk. Have you created a vision board for 2018?  If not, start one today.  Pull some images out of a magazine that you can relate to.  For instance, if you're looking for a new love, pull out some images of a man and woman having fun, looking deeply into each others eyes where you can see they're in love.  Or, if you're looking for a new wardrobe, pull out images of the clothes you'd like to wear, etc. Do this for each aspect of your life and be sure it's around where you can look a it every day. Did you buy a calendar for 2018?  Have you opened it up yet?  Or, is still in the plastic shrink-wrap sitting somewhere in your office?  Get it out, add the important dates into it i.e., birthdays, anniversaries etc. Pick up a potted plant at your local supermarket or fresh cut flowers to really make your home office look and smell beautiful. Well, that's all for today.  Get moving and get clearing.   Happy Organizing!!! With much love, Dawn-Marie XO

EP#043 Never Give Up Your Power!

Podcast cover
Read more

Today's episode covers the importance of keeping your power.  I'm not referring to mystical or magical power, but, rather the power of this thing called YOUR LIFE! You may not realize it, but, when you give up your power to something or someone, you wind up losing a piece of yourself in the process. What do I mean by this?  Well, have you ever had someone in your life take over your time? Stop you from doing the things you love? Or, they have you doing something that might be wreaking havoc on you and your health?  You may not even be fully aware of it.  For example, maybe your boss has you working too many hours and you're not able to spend any quality time with your friends and family? I speak about this in more depth in my upcoming book but, I wanted to share a little bit about it with you today because maintaining your power -- your life is one of the most important things you can do to help yourself have a great and satisfying life.   You see, I know this only too well. I once gave up my power.  It was to a man that I was involved with for almost a decade.  I did everything for him and in the process, I lost myself, my friends, my family, and I let my business slide to the sidelines.  I never thought I'd see the day but there it was staring me right in the face. The last thing I want is for this to happen to you.  So take a quick listen to today's episode and find ways to reclaim your power if you've been letting someone else steal it from you.   Stay strong my friends.  Remember your life is at stake here and you're life is worth every moment in your life. #042 Nat'l Estate Planning Week is Here

Today's episode is yet another necessity.  It's about a very touchy topic.  This week is National Estate Planning week and although I'm not a lawyer or advisor, I've learned about some of the things we need in our lives that will help protect ourselves and our family.  It's about something we usually don't want to think about, let alone talk about with our loved ones.  It's about planning your final wishes and leaving instructions about your health care decisions.   If something bad was going to happen to you tomorrow, would your loved ones know what to do?  Do they know your final wishes?  Or, if you were hospitalized do they know what you'd like for them to do?  There are 4 documents everyone should have in place in their lives right now.  No worries, I'm guilty of not having these either and will begin this week to get them in place. 1) A Durable Power of Attorney 2) Advance Medical Directives        i)A Healthcare Proxy       ii)A Living Will      iii)A DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) 3) A Will 4) A Letter of Instruction   Today I will cover each of the above.  So grab a pen and paper and take some good notes.   Don't leave your loved ones in the dark on this very important matter.   I hope you never have to use any of these documents for decades to come, but, it's better to have everything in place so that you and your family can rest well knowing you've dotted all of the I's and crossed all of the T's.     Please stay healthy and happy my friends.   Love,   Dawn-Marie XO   Stay in touch: Instagram:  @dawnmariesfashions Facebook:  dawnmariemutell

EP#041 Happiness is Not Just A Choice - It's a Necessity!

Podcast cover
Read more

Are you happy?  Do people who know you say "you're always smiling" what's up with that?  Or, "how do you stay so happy?".    I learned when I was around 22 that happiness is not something we're born with, but, something that we cultivate in our lives.  I read this book "Happiness is a Choice" by Frank M.D. Minirth and Paul Meier (if you've never read it, I highly suggest checking it out.     I picked up a copy of this book because after I was hit by the drunk driver and my mom's passing away, I felt myself go into a deep funk, a depression of sorts.  I hid it from my family and friends, but, I didn't feel the same way before my mom died or before the accident.  My best friend was now gone and I had some serious injuries to my spine that the doctors said would be with me for the rest of my life unless I had a surgery which they didn't feel I should do at the time or guarantee me that it would last.  Either way, I was sad, despondent, felt broken and was broke financially, I felt separated from the rest of the world and didn't know which way to turn.  So I prayed about it and God would drop some hints my way.  I'd get some golden nuggets of information from books or conferences I'd attend, or strangers I'd talk to you on a plane. I refused to take the antidepressants or medicines that the doctors gave me for pain.  I can't begin to tell you how many different prescriptions they gave me from the various doctors I saw and chose not to take any of them.  My goal was to heal as much naturally as I could and sustain the injuries and get my happiness and claim my life back.  Depression, for those who may have suffered from it, or, are suffering from it know how debilitating it can be.  One day you feel great, the next you don't know what hit you.    Today's episode is about how you should learn how to create moments of happiness and bring back that smile, that glow and get your life back on track.   Stay strong my friends.  Remember, happiness is not just a choice, it's a necessity!!!   Remember to live happily, peacefully, lovingly, successfully, necessarily and luxuriously,   Love, Dawn-Marie XO     Stay in touch: Instagram:  @dawnmariesfashions Facebook:  dawnmariemutell

Today is #NationalNewYorkDay and well, being a native New Yorker, I just had to write a little homage to say what a great place it is to grow up.     One of my favorite NY Style sandwiches is the Bagel and Lox which I have a little video on my YouTube channel here at: Bagel and Lox Video If you love it as much as I do, check it out and make one today, or this weekend for brunch.   What I love most about New York is that there are so many wonderful ways you can take a mini vacation when you need it.  You can travel 40 minutes out of the city and be in the Adirondack Mountains, or you can travel a few hours and be in Vermont, Washington DC or Boston.  How cool is that?     How can you celebrate #NationalNewYorkDay?  Well, there are a few ways: -Create a bagel lox sandwich or a Corned Beef Reuben. -Take out some Sinatra and play some of his tunes, including "New York, New York". -Check out a Broadway play that might be in your town. -Rent a video from Amazon Prime - Fame, American Gangster, West Side Story, 42nd Street, An Affair to Remember, Big... -Pick up some new fashion digs, go to H&M or to Forever 21 where you can find the most trendy items for less and put on a new outfit and meet your friends for a Cosmo at a swanky restaurant. Whatever you decide to do, do it with style and flair and enjoy!   Remember to leave me a review and subscribe so that you never miss out on any future episodes.   Remember to live happily, lovingly, peacefully, necessarily and luxuriously.   Love, Dawn-Marie XO   Stay in Touch:   FB:  dawnmariemutell Instagram:  dawnmariesfashionfinds Twitter:  @lifesnnl

EP #039 Bath or Shower - Which Do You Prefer?

Podcast cover
Read more

In my early days when I rented a couple of my apartments in Brooklyn, I didn't have a bathtub in the studio apartment.  It only had a shower stall and the bathrooms were super tiny.   Then I moved into a one bedroom in Bath Beach and I actually had a tub again.  I had missed out on using the bathtub which I desperately needed with all of the aches and pains from my injuries from the car accidents and fall into the sinkhole and a shower never quite helped me the way soaking in some Epsom salts in a bathtub would.    Are you a fan of taking baths?  If not, why not?  I know some people have never stepped into a bathtub, yet, I am still baffled by this.  Why wouldn't you want to soak the stress of the day away? One of the things I love to do is to add fragrance oils as well as salts and bubbles to make this oasis concoction and help me unwind and de-stress. Some of my favorite oils to use are:   LAVENDER OIL L'Occitane Moisturizing Cream L'Occitane Verbena Shower Gel     and I love to add a facial and hair masque to make the treatment complete.  Here are some of my favorites:   BUMBLE AND BUMBLE HAIR MASK Origins Mask LaMer Face Moisturizer Be sure when you pop out of your shower or bath that you moisturize your skin immediately -- this will lock in and seal the moisture into your skin. This is something my mom taught me when I was 11 and have done it every day of my life since.   Well, I hope you'll change your mind if you've never taken baths before and join us millions who do.  And, for those of you already taking luxurious baths, please continue and enjoy the rest and relaxation it provides.   Happy bathing!   Remember to live happily, lovingly, peacefully, successfully, necessarily and luxuriously.   Love,  Dawn-Marie XO Stay in Touch: FB:  dawnmariemutell Instagram:  @dawnmariesfashions Twitter: @lifesnnl

April is Straw Hat Month.  I just love straw hats.  Today's episode I give a quick talk on the history of straw hats and how many uses they have. I started wearing straw hats in the 80's in New York City.  Not only are they stylish and fun, there are so many new styles that they didn't have back then and they also serve many other great functions.  They can help with: a) Shield you from the sun's damaging rays. b) Keep a hairdo looking great from rainy weather. c) Help you stay cool by releasing the heat from the hot sun in the summer months. d) Make you look stylish, fun and creative. e) Can hide your hair on a bad-hair day. f) Conversation starter.   Straw hats are made from many types of grasses and straw.  Did you know that palm trees and grasses have much in common?   So take a quick listen, enjoy and get your hat on!   With much love,   Dawn-Marie XO

LNNL EP#029 How to Survive an Extended Stay in the Hospital

Podcast cover
