Great audiobook!

I really enjoyed the world James Durham paints with this store of a dystopian future. I also loved how he tied the origins of the story to actual historic events. If you're into vampires, zombies & some dark history, this is def something you should listen to.

It’s too good to leave us hanging! I understand life changes as your fans hang on... I’m trying to avoid saying "but"... Have you considered hiring a co-writer? Selling some of the rights to another writer? My desperation when I finished book 1 has calmed down now although I know your fans are still waiting. And waiting. waiting...

A sea change, a door opens.

Hello Everyone! James Durham here with some big updates!

Sometimes cutting right to the point is the best way to handle it. So here it is:

Earlier this year, I was diagnosed with cancer.

Now, before you get worried about me, there is very good news. After testing and surgery, the diagnosis is as good as I could hope for. I was diagnosed with a form of cancer that is very curable, and on top of that, I caught it early at stage 1, so I plan to live a long and healthy life. I am very, very lucky.

So please, no worries about that. I’m fine now, and life is, in fact, better than ever.

But through all this, I changed, and I’m continuing to change. In a single, solitary moment, I experienced a profound shift in my heart. And I can’t shake it — I don’t want to shake it.

The best way I can describe it, is that my life’s priorities magically reconfigured themselves right before my eyes. It’s a powerful sea change that I can’t and won’t ignore. I can’t pretend like life is the same as before. It’s not. While I lucked out with the diagnosis and treatment, this was the latest nudge in a series of nudges that have honed and refined my focus in life.

One major development is that I have been focusing on my health right now — I’ve had to put a lot on hold  — and frankly I haven’t been able to update you all, as I’ve been focused on fixing something I’ve been neglecting for a long time.

So I’m here to tell you that there’s a bit of a change coming at jamesdurham.com. And, for those of you who have followed some of my projects, like FETIDUS, I have important news.

So I’ll start with FETIDUS. Am I ever going to release FETIDUS 2? Yes! But, it will still be while yet. FETIDUS 2 (lovingly known as "F2") has been coming along beautifully. I’ve actually rewritten and reworked huge parts of it, and I love how it’s coming together. I wasn’t satisfied with the previous versions, but this one… this one just feels right. Finally. A lot of sweat has gone into it so far. And yet, there’s still so much more to do.

However, I’ve had to pause development of F2 for now as I’ve had to focus on my health and some very personal projects, which I’m about to share with you right now.

For those of you who have been waiting patiently for F2, this might come as a bit of a disappointment to you. This was not an easy decision to make. F2 is finally starting to come together in just the way I had hoped. And I had been targeting this year to launch. But the change in my heart is too profound, and my priorities have honestly shifted.

Hopefully you’ll see why this is so important to me in the months to come.

But for now, F2 is on hold, as I make some major changes in my life.

My choice of shifting my priorities was reconfirmed recently by the heart-breaking loss of a dear friend, PG Holyfield. Many of you knew him or were familiar with his work. I’ve mentioned him before, and he was set to play a major role in F2. He was struck down by a vicious form of cancer and his rapid passing was a shock to anyone who knew him. A large community of friends and supporters mourn his tragic passing and honor his life. He was one of the reasons why I got into podcasting in the first place, one of my mentors, who over the years became a dear friend. His friendship to me when I first found out about my own cancer early this year, showed a kindness, love and a quality of person I’ll never forget. I miss him. And I know many people do. When he was diagnosed with cancer we talked about doing a blog or podcast together about sharing our journeys, but his form of cancer devastated him so quickly, we never had a chance to do it. You can support PG Holyfield’s family at the PG Holyfield fund — there’s a link at pgholyfield.com, and on my website (http://www.gofundme.com/pgfund)

So one of the projects I’m launching in about a week from today, is dedicated to my dear friend PG Holyfield. This new podcast stems from the huge shift in my life to focus on my health. I was very, very lucky with my cancer. To sense the precious nature of life and then get a chance to change and build a better life is what this is all about.

The fact is, I’m on a journey — make that a quest. I’m driven to get healthy and stay healthy, and that has required a huge shift in my mind. So far, since the cancer surgery, I’ve been able to lose a huge amount of weight and reverse a whole list of medical risk factors. I feel great. I feel better than I’ve felt in many years. And I’m not done with this quest.

So today I’m announcing a new podcast which will launch in a little over a week — it’s a podcast that will document my personal quest for health and so much more. I’ve got a long way to go to reach the peak of what I want to accomplish. But, with the help of experts that I’ll be interviewing on this podcast, and the focus, dedication and shift in my mind to healthy living, I’m going to give it my best shot. It’s not an audio drama or fictional epic. But it is dramatic and it is epic, to me. I’ll be talking about my quest for health, fitness, nutrition, and tapping into a huge knowledgebase to help on this quest, so join me if any of that interests you.

Here’s a 30-second intro to the theme of this new podcast, which, to play off the epic-fantasy-quest-like nature, and over-the-top enthusiasm I want to have for it, I’m lovingly calling this new podcast, The Lord of the Mind: A Geek’s Epic Quest for Health.

I am super-excited about this project. It's really important to me, and if anyone is interested in health, fitness and nutrition, please join me.

You can read more about it about jamedurham.com, and sign up for its own separate email update list and podcast feed. Further updates for The Lord of the Mind, will come through the new email list and feed!

The theme music for The Lord of the Mind podcast is provided by my good friend Jose Cabrera. I’m very grateful that he has given me permission to use his killer, ridiculously awesome music for this. I was planning on writing the theme music myself, but when I heard Jose’s tracks, they were perfect. He is amazing. Thank you, Jose, your music captures exactly the feeling I want for the podcast! You can check out more about Jose at cabreramusic.net.

But that’s not all.

I’m launching not one, but TWO podcasts. You heard that right!

The life-altering event I experienced, triggered deeper reflection, and inspired me to reboot an older project… something very special to me I’ve been working on in some form for many years, long before any of my current creative projects. If you decide to listen to it, I think you’ll understand why it’s so important to me.

In fact, this special new podcast is launching today. Right now. This one goes deeper, is more personal than anything I’ve done before, and comes straight from my heart. It’s also not an audio drama or fictional epic. It doesn’t have any flashy bells and whistles. It’s very simple, it’s very real, and it’s my attempt at sharing something so very dear to me. I hope some of you will enjoy it.

It’s called Dear Luke, and it’s a collection of letters I’ve written to my son with my thoughts about life, suggestions to help him find more peace and joy on his own personal journey in life, and ideas to help him discover and reach his full potential.  You are invited to listen as I read these letters to him in this very personal podcast…

Here’s a short little intro about this project:

I am so excited to share that. The first episode is available right now. You can go and download it, and in it I discuss the whole idea behind Dear Luke and describe the life-changing experience that I had.

Dear Luke has its own website, www.dearluke.com, and its own separate email update list and podcast feed.

I want to draw attention to the beautiful painting done by the uber-talented Adam Tarmy for the cover artwork of Dear Luke. I am so grateful for his awesome work on it. It perfectly represents the feeling I want to convey with the project. Thank you, Adam, for understanding and capturing what I want to accomplish. Visit www.dearluke.com to see the cover art. You can find out more about Adam and his stunning artwork on his website at www.adamtarmy.com.

I hope you will enjoy some of this new content I’m releasing.

You've got Dear Luke, which is available right now, and in a little over a week, The Lord of the Mind! Two podcasts!

Now I didn’t want to put all this new content on this existing feed where FETIDUS is located, since the content is so different. So I’ll keep FETIDUS and related updates here, and the new content on their new respective feeds. So you’ll need to sign up for the new feeds you’re interested in.

While the types of podcasts I’m launching are different than previous content I’ve released before, what may not surprise some of you that know me, is that the door I now open, is really the source of the themes that inspired FETIDUS and lot of my other projects, in the first place. I hope you’ll see that, should you choose to follow what I’ll be sharing in those new channels.

I want to thank you for the great support over the years and the inspiration to keep working on my projects! That’s really helped me prepare for what I have to do now.

So, now it is time to begin a new chapter. I don’t know how it will turn out. I’m not sure if I can pull it off. But I really must try.

And you are all invited to listen in.

I wish you all the very best, and look forward to many years of many grand adventures and quests — both real and imagined.

Warmest Regards,
James

First, you may have noticed that I’ve been moving FETIDUS over to jamesdurham.com from its old website. I've got a blog post explaining what’s going on called FETIDUS Has a New Home. Check it out if you haven’t read it yet. The short take is this: Exciting developments are happening with FETIDUS and I’m putting the pieces in place for what’s to come. Since I’m moving everything over to jamesdurham.com, now’s a good time to make sure you’re subscribed to the new links.

Now, as many of you know, FETIDUS started out as an experimental labor of love, as I tried to merge my dual passions of storytelling and music production. The response has blown me away. Since Book I’s completion, I’ve had a good chance now to reflect on listener comments and how the whole production and release evolved, from top to bottom. Suffice it to say, I’m now taking FETIDUS to the next level.

You heard that right, folks, Art Blanchard’s epic adventures will pick up where FETIDUS: The Damned Heir left off. I’ve finally decided to go straight to the next major part of the story. Yes, FETIDUS 2 – lovingly known for now as F2 -- is in production!

I’ll release updates about the launch date and official title in the months to come as I dive even deeper into the fiery depths of production. I've also got some great artwork by Dede Putra, which I'll be posting from time to time. This is a huge process involving the talented cast and original music. It will be worth the wait.

For now, here’s the latest:

You can catch me at Balticon -- Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-27) -- and I’ll be on a number of panels, etc.. I’ll update the text of this post with my schedule at jamesdurham.com.

I will mention two very special events that will take place at Balticon:

First, I’ll be presenting the feature-length sci-fi indie film 95ers, the first project based on a universe and story I co-created with my talented brother Tom Durham. If there’s a dreamer inside you, you should watch this film.  It’s amazing to see what guerrilla indie film-making on a limited budget with a whole lot of support can look like. And of course, watch it for the story too! That’s one of the projects I’ve been working on in between rounds of FETIDUS.

Second, I will do an unplugged, solo reading from FETIDUS 2F2! This will be your first chance to hear what’s happening with Art Blanchard. I can’t wait to share it with you. After all, it’s about making the world a better place, right?

If you make it to Balticon, there will be cool t-shirts, there will be pins, there will be donuts!

Again, check back here at jamesdurham.com for the complete schedule. I hope to see some of you at Balticon!

Make sure you visit jamesdurham.com and sign up for free email updates and double-check that you’re up to date with the new podcast feed, subscription links, etc… Remember, I’ve been migrating from the old website so now’s the time to make sure you’re connected with the new website. You won’t want to miss out on anything.

I’ll close out this update with the audio for the trailer of 95ers. Visit the website to watch the trailer! Thanks again everyone for your support. It’s going to get very exciting in the months to come.

I really enjoyed the world James Durham paints with this store of a dystopian future. I also loved how he tied the origins of the story to actual historic events. If you're into vampires, zombies & some dark history, this is def something you should listen to.
