Henry is a very compassionate, passionate, genuine, deciplined, and hardworking individual and is almost over dedicated to helping people. He has taught and helped me so much. (I recommend starting from episode one) I’ve been shooting weddings for about a year now but still needed some advice on the business side of things and even personal things and just how to handle life in general. This podcast for me has been like a business class, and an eye opener for me teaching me better ways at growing my business and myself. Henry is very dedicated to his craft and has really shown me how much dedication photography takes and how many small things go into getting bookings.

SO much valuable information!

I’ve been shooting weddings for about 3 1/2 years now and there are MANY obstacles I’ve encountered as a first time business owner. I was totally ready for the creative side but the business side has been a learning process to say the least. The episode that really hit my heart where I needed was the “Done is better than perfect”. I’ve struggled with this statement so much! This episode brought things into perspective for me and I related to Henry’s struggles as well. I just finished the productivity episode and I am SO thankful for the golden nuggets of information embedded into each episode! I love how pragmatic Henry is yet empathetic! I can see why he is such a successful business owner and why his couples love him! I’m so thankful for successful business owners like Henry who share such valuable knowledge and perspectives!

Often you’ll hear wedding photographers saying they got X number of leads last month or a wedding photography directory claims they’ll get you a certain number of leads if you advertise with them.

But it’s important to understand that not all leads are equal and there is a big difference between quality leads and those that are just wasting your time.

So what exactly is a quality wedding photography lead? In this podcast episode, we’ll discuss their criteria so you know how to go about getting them.

Does your photography attract the kind of clientele you want and result in leads for weddings at venues you want to shoot at (and in your preferred style)?

I’ll also share with you some of my tips for getting quality wedding photography leads, including the need to be in multiple places, having a solid website and responding to queries in a prompt manner.

I truly believe that once you’ve got the lead, you’re more than halfway to securing the booking.

Rank #6: How To Get Clients With Low Wedding Photography Budgets To Increase It

Podcast cover
Read more

EPISODE #66: NEVER JUDGE A COUPLE BY THEIR BUDGET FOR PHOTOGRAPHY

Summary:

After a few instances of prospective couples approaching me with low wedding photography budgets (below what I charge), I wanted to address the importance of not judging them on this or disregarding their inquiry. In many cases, people don’t know the going rate for wedding photography and just come up with a rough figure, and some will be willing to increase their budget if they feel they are getting superior quality or service.

In this podcast, I’ll chat about what to do if you get inquiries from couples with wedding photography budgets that are lower than your starting rate. We’ll discuss why it’s really important that you respond and show the same level of urgency and service. If a prospective couple's budget is below your starting point, ask them if there's any way they can increase it; otherwise, graciously recommend wedding photographers you know that will do a great job for that price.

Remember to always leave the door open for them to contact you in the future. You just never know - I’ve had a few cases of couples coming back and deciding to increase their budget because they were impressed with either my work or my level of customer service (or perhaps both!).

We’ll also address the importance of not wasting their time or yours, so be up front about your rates and send them your packages and pricing info early on in the communication. Ask them to fill out a questionnaire including the budget they have in mind, then you have a ballpark figure to work with in tailoring a package to suit their needs. Yes, you may miss out on more clients by sticking to higher rates (and when you’re first starting out the work experience may be more valuable than the monetary benefits), but if you respect the time and energy you’ve put into getting where you are, your couples will too.

EPISODE #74: HOW IS THAT GOING TO HELP ME BOOK MORE WEDDINGS?

Summary:

As wedding photographers, we’ve got a lot on our plates. Most people don’t realize that aside from actually shooting weddings, we’re marketing and branding our businesses, networking with other vendors, and constantly developing our people skills. Clients don’t appear just like that and it’s an ongoing process to ensure we are booking enough weddings to make our businesses financially viable.

With so many things to deal with behind the scenes, it can be really easy to become overwhelmed and lose focus. Which is why it’s important to step back and ask yourself, “How is that going to help me book more weddings?” At the end of the day, we need to be making a profit and investing our time, energy, and money in the right area is crucial to ensure that happens.

In this episode, we’ll chat about different ways you can use your time and money efficiently to ensure you book more weddings (as well as discuss a few areas that might not be so useful). From purchasing new gear to spending time marketing through social media and attending photography workshops and conferences.

Each decision you make should start with weighing up pros and cons and whether at the end of the day it is going to help you book more weddings and achieve your wedding photography business goals.

There’s a saying “you get what you show” and this rings true when trying to appeal to your ideal wedding photography clientele. The images you share on your social media pages and website should reflect the clientele you want to appeal to and reflect how you would capture their special day.

But what if you’re not even sure what your ideal wedding photography clientele is? In this podcast episode, we’ll chat about determining what this means to you and how you can go about attracting those kinds of couples to your wedding photography business.

It might be glamorous venues or high-end decor that you want to capture or perhaps it’s multicultural wedding celebrations or couples that put a high priority on photography.

For most of us, we want to appeal to clients whose budget fits in with our pricing, as well as those that like our style of photography. For other wedding photographers, personality is also important and working with people that you “click” with.

So once you’ve figured out your ideal wedding photography clientele, how do you go about appealing to them? I’ll share with you some of my tips and insights as to how I go about attracting my ideal clientele through my online presence and marketing.

Rank #16: Addressing Wedding Photography Questions From A Podcast Listener

Podcast cover
Read more

One of the most amazing emails I’ve ever received from a listener (and watcher of my YouTube channel) turned up in my inbox in the middle of June (2018), sharing with me a lot of the professional and personal struggles that he’s going through.

Many were things I had gone through early on in my career as a wedding photographer, so I thought rather than answer Thinh directly, I would (with his permission) create a podcast episode that might also benefit others.

First and foremost, I want to thank Thinh for reaching out and really appreciate his kind words regarding the work I’m doing to help other wedding photographers build successful businesses.

I was particularly thrilled to hear that despite watching many other photography-related videos, his passion for the craft was re-ignited after he started watching mine.

Thinh asked a whole variety of different questions about not only marketing and building a successful wedding photography business but also issues he was experiencing from a more technical standpoint.

How can you capture quality images inside a low-lit church setting or shoot couple portraits at sunset and how should you use a flash for the most effective results?

In this podcast episode, I’ll share with you how I approach each of these photographic situations and hopefully answer all of Thinh’s questions.

EPISODE #77: TOP 12 REASONS WHY PROSPECTIVE COUPLES DON'T BOOK ME - PART 2

Summary:

In the second part of this two-part series about reasons why clients decide NOT to book my services, I’ll discuss some of the ways to address this in your wedding photography business. Whether you’re charging above the budget of prospective clients, don’t have experience shooting at their venue or aren’t offering both photography and videography services, how can you book prospective clients and minimize the number who may go elsewhere?

There are some reasons why prospective clients don’t book that you really can’t do anything about or doing so would compromise your business. While you can address other reasons by improving your reputation as a wedding photography or your people skills. I’ll discuss some of the strategies I use to handle these situations and how effective they have been to help me book prospective clients in the future.

The important thing is not to be offended by rejections, but analyze “why” and how you can improve things for the long-term.
