It is this point of apparent collapse that is so important in everyone’s career. Just when failure and disaster seem unavoidable is the time to push right on through and disregard appearances. More will power and determination put forth at that time will turn the tide, and glorious results are certain.

You have heard me say in the past that you are what you think. But what DO you think? How orderly are your thought processes? How straight is your thinking? And how clean are your thoughts? There are certain mental cobwebs that clutter up the thinking of almost everyone, even the most brilliant minds. Negative feelings, emotions, passions — habits, beliefs and prejudices. Our thoughts become entangled in these webs.
Sometimes we have undesirable habits and we want to correct them. And there are times when we are strongly tempted to do wrong. Then, like an insect caught in a spider's web, we struggle to get free. Our conscious will is in conflict with our imagination and the will of our subconscious mind. The more we struggle, the more we become entrapped.
However, we can avoid mental cobwebs. We can clear them. And we can sweep them away as they begin to develop. We can free ourselves when once enmeshed. And we can remain free by thinking accurately with a positive mental attitude.
Accurate thinking is a critical success principle. To think accurately we must use reason. The science of reasoning or accurate thinking is called logic. One can learn it from books written specifically on this subject, such as: The Art of Clear Thinking, by Rudolf Flesch; Your Most Enchanted Listener by Wendell Johnson; Introduction to Logic by Irving Copi; and The Art of Straight Thinking by Edwin Leavitt Clarke.
These books can be of immense practical help. But we don't act from reason alone. And action based on common sense is the result of more than just reason. It depends upon habits of thought and action, intuitions, experiences, and other influences such as tendencies and environment.

EVERYONE wishes to be happy. That is one thing upon which all can agree. Unfortunately, much of our effort to become happy is lost, because it is made in the wrong way and happiness is expected where it never can be attained. So, let me share with you 9 helps to happiness, which are guaranteed to set you upon a joyful path in life.
Number 1) AMBITION
One of the world's greatest mistakes is that of supposing that complete happiness can be found in the attainment of some one thing, whereas the helps to happiness are numerous. Women and men are compound beings, possessing physical, intellectual, and spiritual natures, each of which have many wants which must be supplied if we are to be happy. If any one or more of these physical, intellectual, or spiritual needs are not satisfied, we are, to some degree, made unhappy.
Happiness is not one great joy to be found in the attainment of one great aim or purpose in life, but it consists of many things, found in a great many experiences and possessions.

We all know that we are as we think. Then we must think only such thoughts as tend to make us what we wish to be. The secret of right thinking is found in always keeping the mind's eye fixed upon the greater and the better in all things.
Scientific research in the metaphysical field has demonstrated the fact we are what we think, that we become what we think, and that what we think in the present, determines what we are to become in the future; and also that since we can change our thoughts for the better along any line, we can therefore completely change ourselves along any line.
But the majority of us who try to apply this law do not succeed to a great degree, the reason being that instead of working entirely upon the principle that we are as we think, we proceed in the belief that we are what we think we are.
At first sight there may seem to be no difference between the principle that we are as we think and the belief that we are what we think we are, but close study will reveal the fact that the latter is absolutely untrue. You are not what you think you are, because personality, mentality, and character are not determined by personal opinions....

Long, long years ago, so the story is told,
A maiden named Doubt, loved young Courage so bold.
Their marriage was blessed by four children, it’s said,
And each parent named two, at least, so I've read.
The first was called Will and the second was Wont,
The third was named Do and the fourth one was Dont.
Like sturdy young plants they flourished and grew,
And astonished their friends by the things they would do.
Young Will was a wonder at work or at play,
He was busy as could be, while Wont sat all day,
Objecting, complaining, his face sad and long,
Declaring to his mind this world was all wrong.
Do pushed right ahead, leaving nothing undone,
But Dont was a mule and often balked just for fun.
So they grew and developed until one fine day,
They attempted to find what the world had to say.
Do soon found an opening and rose to success,
Dont couldn't find work and thus failed to progress.
Will forged straight ahead and was known far and wide,
Wont kept right on balking and balked till he died.
The moral is plain for those who can see,
It consists in a warning to heed carefully,
About the names you use and the names you wear,
If you wish to succeed and escape from the snare
Of failure and poverty, sickness and woe,
And be sure of enjoyment wherever you go.
Know that thought is your guide, for your name merely proves
What kind of ideas have lodged in the grooves
Of your mind, the one place you should ever be sure,
To keep peaceful, harmonious, joyous and pure.

Faith in one's abilities has removed mountains. But lack of such faith fills one's life with swamps of despondency. You cannot climb successfully unless you have unbounded confidence in your ability to reach the top. Life is one constant succession of suggestions, and it bends in accordance with the trend of those suggestions.
Self-confidence is an auto-suggestion that you have the ability to win, that your ship is sturdy enough to weather the storm, that your motor is strong enough to climb the hill. If you lack this requisite to success, you might just as well get on a sidetrack and content yourself with watching others pass by — for lack of confidence is deadly to success in life.
Self-confidence is termed nerve by some. “That guy or gal has the nerve to win” is frequently said about someone who dares opposition, who defies oppression, who challenges obstacles; but self-confidence is the better term. It simply means that you have faith in your undertaking and confidence in your ability to win.

Great characters, accomplishers of great achievements, the truly successful, know full well that they can only do great deeds, or accomplish mighty purposes, to the extent that they are able to banish fear and hate from their minds and lives.
Fear is the deadly enemy of accomplishment. It paralyzes effort, destroys initiative, and corrodes the mental machinery. Fear and worry go hand in hand, the one produces the other. Worry never yet succeeded in overcoming a difficulty, neither has it ever succeeded in elucidating a problem. All it can do is destroy health, wreck happiness and peace of mind, and make our difficulties more difficult to overcome and our problems less easy to solve.
Fear, worry, care — what a terrible trinity! How destructive they are, what numberless lives they have marred and ruined. Mental gifts, high achievement, a university education, help from friends and relatives, even genius, all are in vain, all are rendered futile, if the mind is allowed to entertain fear. Unless fear is cast out of your life, there can be no success. Entertain fear in your mind and you slam and bolt the door on all achievement; you sound the death knell of your hopes and ambitions.

When we examine our mode of living, we shall find that we dwell upon the spiritual side of life only on rare occasions. Most of the time we allow our consciousness to reside upon the personal or material side of life, and it will remain there for days, weeks, or months. We find that during this period our soul activity becomes passive, and consequently the personality does not have the benefit of that greater spiritual power which is necessary in order that we may meet and overcome every problem and condition in life.
This being true, it is important that we learn to live, more and more, upon the spiritual side of consciousness, so that we may gain possession of a larger measure of this higher power, which alone can emancipate the personality and give higher wisdom to the mind and intellect.
We are not here to drift with the stream or to fold our arms passively and say that we will let the best come to pass. The truth is, that if there be anything we want, we must work for it. If we wish to make life ideal, we must make it so ourselves.
The things we desire do not come to us simply through mere passivity or expectation. We are living in an imperfect world, a world which is in the process of growth; therefore, we meet undeveloped conditions on every side. And if we remain in a passive condition, or simply drift with the stream, many of those undeveloped conditions will come into our own world — and not only disturb the order of our personal existence, but produce a great many adverse conditions, both within ourselves and in our environment. For this reason, we must make ourselves stronger than all those conditions; that is, we must rise above adversity both in wisdom and in power; and this is made possible only through the continuous expression of the soul.

Today I would like to share with you the secret of getting things done. You also will learn a self-motivator that is so powerful it will subconsciously force you to action, for it is in reality a self-starter. Yet you can use it at will. And when you do, you will overcome procrastination and inertia.
If you are someone who does things you actually don't want to do, or if you don't do the things that you do want to do, then today’s talk is for you. Those who achieve greatness employ this secret of getting things done.
So, what is this great secret? Simply this: DO IT NOW! As long as you live, never say to yourself, "DO IT NOW!" unless you follow through with the action.
Whenever you want to do something and “DO IT NOW!” flashes from your subconscious to your conscious mind, immediately take action.

IF you are faithful, ordinary success is yours. If you do what you are told to do, or what you have to do, you can't become a failure. But more than ordinary success, more than normal accomplishment, is due, not wholly to faithfulness, not entirely to your interest in your work, but to the fact that you do not only what you are told to do and have to do, but what you are not told to do and don't have to do.
For example, let us suppose that you are an assistant bookkeeper. You arrive promptly at the opening hour. That is good. You are attentive to business. That is fine. You don't neglect things. That will be appreciated. You are accurate and faithful. Your employer gives you credit. But all this faithfulness, and all this attention to duty, will not bring you more than a normal raise in salary, or permit you to occupy more than an ordinary position, unless you add to them what is not required, what your employer doesn't ask or expect you to do.

To succeed today a person must concentrate all their faculties of mind on one unwavering aim, and have a tenacity of purpose, which means death or victory. Every other inclination which tempts you from your aim must be suppressed.
An individual may starve on a dozen half-learned trades or occupations, but grow rich and famous upon one trade thoroughly mastered, even though it be the humblest.
Do not struggle to do two things at once. Throw your entire strength upon whatever you do. An intense energy should characterize everything you undertake, even your recreation.

There has been a lot of nonsense written and spoken about the Law of Attraction. People have been taught that all they need to do is to adopt a certain mental attitude, think thoughts of success and abundance, and then sit and wait for the abundance of all good things to drop from the skies at their feet. The folly of it is seen when we find that these teachers of "abundance" and "opulence" have to work for a living — by teaching the very thing which, if true, would save them from all the necessity of working.
Suppose that it were true; then what is possible for one would be possible for all, and if all adopted this method of getting a living, then who would till the soil or make our clothes? Would everything we need come from the skies? Even if this were true (and we could draw all that we needed by the power of thought from the blue vault of heaven), then no one would have anything to do; life would become stagnant; and the race would perish from inaction.
Life IS action — and if a person ceases to work, they at once begin to disintegrate, and soon require six feet of earth wherein to cover their bones. When business people retire they often quickly die, and those who (being born with riches) have no necessity to work for a living, STILL have to find some kind of work and interest, in order to prevent themselves from mental and physical decay.
There is no such thing as getting something for nothing. The principle of the "square deal" runs right through life and the Universe. A business person who tries to get something for nothing — who, in other words, fails to give value for money — finally finds themselves without a customer.
