WCPEver Episode 467 - 2023 Smallville Con Preview

On this week's episode of The Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!:  Marvel had a pair of announcements last week that broke the Internet within the comic book community. Marvel will be reprinting their classic runs of ROM and Micronauts as Omnibus editions (so far!) in early 2024. Facsimile editions of the first issues of each title will be released this fall. We discuss the news and what this might mean for the other Hasbro properties.  Image Comics caused another shake-up on the Internet when they announced they will be leaving Diamond of their comics by the fall, and will distribute the books through Lunar. To get things started, one of the first original programmings shows on Disney + is The Mandalorian, which focuses on a bounty hunter (wearing a very familiar armor) in the world following sometime after the conclusion of Return of the Jedi. We have a lot to talk about just with the first episode, so sit back and enjoy a reasonably non-spoiled look at our new favorite show. If we could make a suggestion for you, we think that the Star Wars Episode Nine: The Rise of Skywalker movie opening today might be a big hit.  Of course, it's going to be a huge hit. Probably the largest film of 2019, and that's saying a lot considering it only has 11 days to work with to top Avengers: Endgame. We know many of you will be attending a showing (or two or three...) throughout the weekend and the guys of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! will be there too to take it all in.  But before we view the new film, we have two episodes of The Mandalorian to discuss. Episode six dropped last Friday and episode seven dropped mid-week, so we have a lot of catching up to do with our new favorite bounty hunter.  Sure, some podcasts would just make it all Star Wars talk this week, but not this show! John finished Watchmen on HBO and has a lot to say about one of the top shows on TV. We take a look at the upcoming Disney movies in 2020 to see what interests us in the new year. It's time, loyal listeners! We are taking the show on the road, so to speak, for the next two weeks. First up is a visit to Hutchinson, KS, for the Smallville Con. In fact, for the weekend, the town will rename itself Smallville. This is one of our favorite cons to hit each summer, and this year will be no exception. Look for a Superman (or Atom) sighting with an appearance by Brandon Routh. Other guests appearing include Richard Brake, Judith Hoag, Claudia Christian, Stacy Haiduk, Neo Edmund and many more. Jerry and John will be hosting the panels throughout the weekend, so please make plans to attend some of them. This con runs June 22 and 23 are the Kansas State Fairgrounds. The following weekend, John will be flying solo as he heads up to Omaha for the O Con Expo. Entering it's fifth year, this show is a fun event for the whole family.
