Rank #1: Merch Minds Podcast - Episode 137: Take the 30-Day Etsy Challenge With Matt and RJ

Podcast cover
Read more

Merch is dead! That's why, for the past several weeks, I put my efforts back into rebuilding my Etsy store. And it's paid because in less than two months I'm already at $600 in sales with just a little over 400 products live.

This week Matt and RJ are back on the show. They are back to talk about their new 30-Day Etsy Challenge, which will motivate you to build your Etsy store. Joining them in the challenge is Dionne Baker and Jay De Souza, who are successful Etsy business owners.

There are many reasons to get started on Etsy. You get better margins and analytics that you don't get on Amazon. Not just that but you have more control. While Etsy still isn't our platform, it attracts the people who are willing to spend more money.

I'm excited about the challenge because as I stated earlier, I been scaling my Etsy store. I'm also enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with Matt, RJ, Dionne, and Jay. With their support, I'm looking to double my numbers by the end of October.

If you're interested in joining the challenge with I encourage you to use my affiliate link. Here's the great thing about purchasing the challenge through me. I will include the following bonuses for free:

  • Typography Dissected Poster (PDF Version)
  • Understanding Typography for Merch by Amazon eBook
  • Understanding Typography for Etsy Workshop

The workshop will be presented after the challenge is over. I don't want to overwhelm everyone because a lot of information will already be presented to us. I will let you guys know the date soon.

You get all this for just $97! Who's onboard to take the challenge with me?

Rank #3: Merch Minds Podcast - Episode 048: Discussing the Etsy + Printful Integration

Podcast cover
Read more

I'm sure you heard about the Etsy + Printful integration by now. Every since Yong made a Facebook Live video a couple of weeks ago, the topic has gone viral, and everyone is talking about it. In fact, as this video is currently being uploaded Yong has sold his 10th product on Etsy.

If you're currently waiting to get accepted into the Merch by Amazon program, then Etsy +Printful is a good platform to get your feet wet. You also get a higher payout per apparel, and you can offer more products to your customers including tank tops, hoodies, and hats. We all know Amazon is king when it comes to e-commerce but Etsy + Printful is a great platform to start your venture into POD.

Glen interviews Yong since he started uploading his designs and started seeing sales almost immediately. While Yong is not an expert, he emphasizes how easy it is to get started. The program is in its infant stages but the potential is huge.

Rank #4: Merch Minds Podcast - Episode 077: Interview with the Million Dollar Man, Mike Gual

Podcast cover
Read more

This week Glen and Yong talk to the million dollar man! In case you haven't heard Mike Gual has been the focal point of the Merch community the past few weeks. He made over a million dollars in royalty since starting Merch with just a little over 160 shirts live.

So how did he do it? He did by implementing what's now being called the Local Merch Method. He's targeting local businesses in his town and offering them an opportunity to get customers with his t-shirts. Not just that but he's creating another source of income stream for them.

The boys talk with Mike and pick his brain for a whole hour. This is an episode you don't want to miss out on. Mike explains how with the Local Merch Method there is no competition. You don't have to worry about copycats or keywords.

Out of all the guests the boys have interviewed Mike is probably the most humble person they have ever met. Even after making a million dollars the guy continues to work his day job. Not just that but he absolutely loves helping people in hopes that they can also succeed.

This is what we don't want you to do. Even though he would be more than happy to answer your questions, please don't bombard him with 100 questions. Instead, purchase his course to support him and get direct access to Mike and his private Facebook group.

There is a lot of action already taking place in his group. Mike is providing actionable content and guidance with his course and group. Through Mike, Yong has already landed a potential client within two days of talking to him. Take action today!

Rank #5: Merch Minds Podcast – Episode 061: Discussing 2018 Goals

Podcast cover
Read more

This week's episode is a little early and the final one for 2017. Next week the boys are taking a break from the podcast to celebrate the holiday. It's been quite a ride for the boys, and they reveal their numbers for the last time before the year is up.

In this week's episode, the boys talk about their goals for 2018. Both Glen and Yong are juggling multiple projects, which is making it difficult for them to scale their Merch by Amazon business. However, they have goals and plans to try and help them scale, and they discuss in this week's episode.

Glen is relying on some assistance from his brother to help with his designs. His brother Anthony is also a graphic designer by trade and will assist Glen in designing some of his evergreen designs in 2018. This will help Glen manage his time better and focus on growing not just Merch but eBay as well.

Yong will also rely on some assistance with his designs from a student designer at SJSU. A few months ago Yong hired a girl who is currently going through the same program as he did at SJSU. He plans on hiring her more to help with his designs, which will help him spend more time doing niche research and uploads.

As for the podcast, the boys never had a set schedule in 2017. They would record the podcast and release it on random days. In 2018, they will record all episodes on Friday and have it ready for everyone to listen to on Monday. The podcast will also be featured on the Hustler Hacks YouTube channel starting in 2018.

Q4 is almost here. Labor Day is officially over and the leaves are starting to change. That means that Halloween is creeping up on us real soon.

This week Glen and Yong talk about their Q4 predictions and expectations. On a previous episode, Glen even hinted maybe doing FBA again because he thinks there will be another freeze or throttle. Yong agrees. With Amazon having launched Merch Collab, PopSockets, Merch UK/DE, and Merch AMS all in one year there is a great chance of some kind of freeze this Q4.

Also, if you're publishing on CreateSpace take note that they are officially merging to KDP. For a while, there have been rumors about the move but Amazon announced last week that the move will happen. Make sure and learn the ins and outs of KDP!

Rank #12: Merch Minds Podcast - Episode 136: Interview with Greg Johnson

Podcast cover
Read more

Greg Johnson is a successful entrepreneur. He's married and has six beautiful kids that he supports and raises. With that said, it was a matter of time before we got him on the show.

I'm not going to lie. I had a whole list of questions to ask in regards to Local Merch because that was something we both experimented with back when it was still new. However, the conversation completely took a left turn, and a whole new topic came up.

As entrepreneurs sometimes we need to be innovative and think outside the box. And that's exactly what Greg did. He took his best selling design on Merch by Amazon and had it printed on shirts through a local printer. He then sent them into Amazon to have them fulfilled through their FBA program.

Also, as mentioned in the podcast, we are trying to raise money for Dave Cadoff. He is having surgery later this week, and his colleagues in the POD community are trying to raise money for him. Whether you care about trademarks or not, Dave has committed to fight trademarks trolls on our behalf behind the scenes.

I talk about how special the POD community is. If there is one time we need to come together, it is now. We may have our differences, but I think we can all agree that Dave is the one person who needs our support.

Anyone that supports a minimum of $10 will get a set of five KDP interiors. Just message me with the invoice that you donated. Even if you don't donate, I'll give them to you regardless. I only ask that you give me a couple of weeks to make them.

Rank #14: Merch Minds Podcast – Episode 057: Discussing the New Royalty Adjustment

Podcast cover
Read more

This week Glen and Yong discuss the royalty adjustment that will take effect on January 15, 2018. With so many people on Merch these days and Amazon slowly rolling out new apparels it was no surprise that Amazon made the announcement. What was a shocker is how much Amazon is deducting from the current royalty payout.

The boys discuss why Amazon is making the changes. They also talk about why it's important not solely to rely on Amazon to be your main income stream. They also discuss their strategies for the new royalty changes.

If you're on Merch by Amazon, make sure to adjust your prices before the new royalty kicks in. More importantly, get on other POD platforms. The more platforms you get on, the better it is for you. Not just that but you will make more money.

Rank #15: Merch Minds Podcast – Episode 058: Discussing TeePublic's Digital Artwork Protection

Podcast cover
Read more

TeePublic recently announced their "Digital Artwork Protection" program. Both Glen and Yong commend TeePublic for taking the initiative to protect content creators and their work. The boys go over what the Digital Artwork Protection is and they fantasize about what it would be like if Amazon implemented something similar.

The Digital Artwork Protection is still in the infancy stage, and the boys had some questions. However, they are very supportive of what TeePublic is doing. Let's see how the Digital Artwork Protection pans out and see if they can develop it to better the print-on-demand community.

The four bullet points for the Digital Artwork Protection are:

  • Reverse-engineering the steps that the rippers did to steal art in the first place. TeePublic hired engineers to close these loopholes.
  • Finds other websites that have posted the same artwork without your consent. Interface on your account that gives you the website on where it's being posted and link to the appropriate contact so you can send them a takedown request.
  • Ripper tries to upload your design to TeePublic; it will automatically be taken down.
  • Watermarks do not really work. Ripper scripts that punch out the watermark.

Rank #16: Merch Minds Podcast - Episode 122: Interview with Zach Knickerbocker

Podcast cover
Read more

This week the man with the most well-known name in New York City stops by the Merch Minds Podcast. Zach Knickerbocker started his Merch journey just a year and a half ago and he's already making on average $5k per month. Zach is obviously making moves and stamping his name in the community.

Some argue that he might have a slight edge over others because he actually works for Amazon. But Zach's day job has nothing to do with Merch. He told the boys that he has no direct connection with the people at Merch by Amazon.

So how did he scale his account? It was through hard work and determination. He wanted to build an income stream outside of his day job and as a developer, he was already comfortable being in front of a computer. This allowed him to be able to design his own shirts and scale at a rapid rate.

Make sure and subscribe to Zach on his YouTube channel, which is listed below. He promised to put out more content on his channel in the near future. Also, make sure and show him some love on Instagram.

Rank #17: Merch Minds Podcast - Episode 065: Networking and Hiring VA's

Podcast cover
Read more

Both Glen and Yong are back from their travels. Glen traveled to California and Yong...well, he traveled within California. Glen was in San Jose and Los Angeles to film his Outhustled series. Yong was in Los Angeles as a guest speaker at the Merchella conference.

They discuss their travels and the meetups they attended. Glen being the rock star had a meetup in San Jose where he had a decent gathering. However, the Outhustled meetup was a huge success as approximately 80 people showed up! Now that's how you do a meetup.

On episode 65 Glen and Yong discuss the importance of networking within the community. While the Facebook groups might be flooded with members trying to make it big on Amazon, it is still a small community. Being a content creator on any print-on-demand platform, it can be difficult to find people to talk to. So the boys encourage that you attend conferences and meetups to learn from other people and create opportunities.

They also talk about hiring VA's. Both Glen and Yong are a one-man operation. While there are other people outsourcing every aspect of their business, they discuss why they will never hire a VA to upload their designs. Also, they talk about the importance of doing research regardless of who you hire.

Rank #18: Merch Minds Podcast – Episode 055: Understanding Typography for Merch by Amazon

Podcast cover
Read more

This week the guys are talking about design again. Typography to be exact. As Merch by Amazon becomes saturated with more competition, it's getting harder to get sales with everyone trying to get a piece of the pie.

Glen and Yong have been preaching good design since they started the Merch Minds podcast. You can argue that their opinion is bias since they both have graphic design degrees but the lack of sales almost everyone is experiencing is proof that good design is important. You need to have a good design to stand out from the competition since the market is saturated with shirts in the same niche.

Yong recently wrote the ebook Understanding Typography for Merch by Amazon, which was originally announced to the attendees of the Denver meetup. Now the ebook is being officially being announced to the general public and on sale for everyone. Yong wrote the book because after doing the Merch Minds podcast for a little over a year now no one still talks about design. Everyone is always talking about sales, marketing, and keywords but no one talks about the most important factor of doing the Merch by Amazon business.

The book won't make you an expert in typography or design overnight, but it will introduce you to the basic fundamentals. The book will cover important topics such as kerning, spacing, font selection, font pairing and so much more! Even if you don't do your own design, this book will help you better communicate with your designer.

Design is such a visual topic and week after week Glen and Yong been coming on the podcast talking about it. The book will visually explain a lot of the things that they have discussed on the podcast for the past year. It will help you better understand what good typography is.

Yong had been secretly working on this book for over six months. Yong not only wrote the book but he also designed it. Glen wrote the foreward, and there are tons of resources stacked in the book. And here's the best part of making the purchase. Yong will continue to add to the book as time goes on and the people who purchase it will always get the newest version for free. He's promised that as long as he's alive and kicking, he will never charge you another penny for a revised version.

Make the purchase today and up your design game with Understanding Typography for Merch by Amazon for just $37!
