Colby Lovell, rodeo's hog-hunting header from South Texas, has won almost $900,000 in his 14-year careering ProRodeo. The Score – Rhen Richard

Million-dollar cowboy Rhen Richard, of Roosevelt, Utah, is an all-around hand who last year qualified for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in the heading with Quinn Kesler and in the tie-down roping. Richard, who was the Resistol Rookie of the Year on the heel side in 2008, grew up in Utah playing sports and team roping. His focus has been on the all-around since an early age, and in 2018 he came oh-so-close to a gold buckle thanks to strong performances in both the heading and tie-down roping at the Finals. On this week’s episode of The Score, Richard talks about that Finals and his motivation going forward. His great horses have been a huge part of his success, and Richard also discusses how he likes them to perform and how he keeps them healthy. If you remember, we did a story during the NFR on his Canadian-rooted buckskin horse, Festus, and Richard talks about that horse’s evolution and what else will be in his rig come summer—when he kicks off his partnership with Florida’s Clint Summers. The Score – Travis Tryan's Walt

Travis Tryan’s ProRodeo Hall of Fame Head Horse Walt—registered with the AQHA as Precious Speck—was a four-time AQHA/PRCA Head Horse of the Year, in 2003 and then from 2007 to 2009.The horse was iconic for a whole lot more than his signature fluffy forelock and always-forward ears, and he shaped the careers of both Travis and Clay Tryan. Travis was just a kid trying to make it on the rodeo road when he got Walt, but on him he quickly became the youngest team roper to accrue over $1 million in earnings.Walt is the first rope horse in the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, inducted in 2015—a little over five years after he died warming up for slack in Clovis, California.Walt’s story underscores how critical great horses are in rodeo, and how fleeting their time on Earth really is. The Score – Clay O'Brien Cooper

We've waited to do an interview on 'The Score' with Clay O’Brien Cooper—the Champ—for years now. The seven-time world champion has almost $4 million in ProRodeo’s earnings, but it’s been his steady demeanor, paired with his monthly presence in The Team Roping Journal and our predecessor, Spin To Win, that’s made him one of the most beloved names in all of team roping. He’s as even keeled as it gets, and in times like these, when so little about life looks the same, Champ does. And for that, I’m ever grateful. Please enjoy today’s visit with Clay O’Brien Cooper, as a reminder of all that’s right and good with the world, brought to you by Manna Pro.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Score – Tate Kirchenschlager

Tate Kirchenschlager, a 27-year-old Colorado native who now resides in Morgan Mill, Texas, is fresh off his first NFR appearance. Nine years in to his PRCA career, Tate got the big hit he needed in San Antonio, Texas, when he won one of the biggest building rodeos of the year with Ross Ashford and skyrocketed to the top of the standings. The road to the top was a long won for Tate, making a living as a horse trainer and finishing no higher than 47th in the world standings before making his first trip to the Finals last year. Tate—who will get married in 2020—is rodeoing with his San Antonio championship partner Ross Ashford this year, and he’s still riding the Horse of the Year Jewels Smoke Screen. He’s all-in on a return trip to Las Vegas, and we talk about that and a whole lot more on this episode of The Score, brought to you by Nutrena Feeds. The Score – Jackyl

Jackyl—the larger-than-life legend of a horse ridden by greats from a 15-year-old Travis Graves to Kory Koontz, Michael Jones, Allen Bach, Jade Corkill and Jim Ross Cooper. The unregistered dun gelding earned over $2 million in his storied career, carried Bach and Corkill to gold buckles, and earned worldwide fame as the greatest horse to ever pull back—and I mean PULL BACK—on a steer. We’ve told his story for years, and with his death in December of 2018, we embarked on a video project to tell his life’s story—complete with video of some of his biggest wins—with our partners at Soft Ride Equine Comfort Boots, which Jackyl wore throughout the end of his competitive career.  But this podcast is Jackyl like you’ve never heard him before. We dive deeper into this icon’s story, with the help of Travis Graves, Jade Corkill and Kory Koontz. The story starts in Jay, Oklahoma, when a teenage Travis Graves—who with his dad helped buy and sell horses for a lot of local families—came to ride this outlaw buckskin. The Score – Tyler Wade

I’ve always known Tyler Wade as a reacher, as the best story teller who’s ever lived, and as a hustler, who worked as hard as anyone I’ve known to stay on the road. I’ve always been impressed by his work ethic and his insane talent, but at the 2019 NFR, I was blown away by his ability to catch 10 steers as insanely fast as he did. He was fun to watch, and I think—in my conversations with so many of the best in the world—he put most of the team roping world on notice that he’s not just the funny guy who tells the best stories and reaches the farthest. He’s one of my close friends, and for years I’ve honored his “NO PODCAST!” request, but for Season 3 of the Score, he’s lost his hall pass. This episode is brought to you by Patrick Smith's Raising Roosters.
