Ep 72 - Gay and Muslim: My Struggle

Join our new podcast Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/tmvpodcast/ ... This week on The Muslim Vibe Podcast, Salim talks to Ali Jaffrey about his journey of dealing with same-sex attraction. Ali walks us through his life, telling us how he came to be aware of his attraction from a young age, how he coped (for a large period of his life in silence) and how he sought help. We learn about Ali's challenges and obstacles, and how they've led him to develop Strong Support, an organisation created to help Muslims who struggle with same-sex attraction but don't want to act on it. As Ali tells his story, we learn how he struggled and how he triumphed over his same-sex attraction. To read the article by Muslim Matters on Same-Sex Attraction discussed in the podcast, click here: https://muslimmatters.org/2016/08/22/from-a-same-sex-attracted-muslim-between-denial-of-reality-and-distortion-of-religion/ To learn more about Ali's organisation Strong Support, click here: http://strongsupport.co.uk/ or email contact@strongsupport.co.uk --- Please Note: The topic of conversation in this podcast is a particularly sensitive one and we wanted to approach it with as much nuance as possible. Ali approached us in November 2018, saying that he wanted to write a series about the struggle of people who experience same-sex attraction but don't want to act on their urges. Subsequently he decided he wanted to come in and have a conversation with us on our podcast about his experience and his journey. We're aware that Ali's worldview may not be the same as yours, but this is his story and a perspective we don't often hear much of. We are not attempting to provide a complete or holistic Islamic perspective on this but rather share a brother's journey based on his personal experience.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/themuslimvibe/message

Ep 40 - Bridging Mental Health With Spirituality (Interview with Hooman Keshvarzi)

Syed Rizvi speaks with Hooman Keshvarzi, founding director of the Khalil Center, the largest provider of mental health for Muslims in the U.S. Syed has followed Hooman’s work since he was an undergraduate in Psychology attempting to better understand the overlap of Islam, as a spiritual discipline, and Psychology, as a set of principles designed to help individuals with unseen diseases. Specifically, the integration of the two and how the linking of spirituality and psychology could be the missing piece for what each was lacking. Psychology failing to understand the role of the ‘spirit’, and spirituality failing to account for neurological, biological, or societal deficits which may impair one’s spirit from ever flourishing in the first place. For more information on the Khalil Center, please visit: https://khalilcenter.com/Thank you to Islamic Society of North America Convention for facilitating this conversation!--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/themuslimvibe/message

The Christchurch Terrorist Attack

Earlier today whilst Muslims in New Zealand were attending Juma prayers, gunmen entered a couple of mosques and shot indiscriminately at worshippers. So far 49 people have lost their lives and dozens more are injured in hospital. The perpetrators are believed to be far-right extremists and one of them filmed the entire shooting on a bodycam which was live streamed on the internet. He also published a manifesto online, citing mass immigration as one of his motives. On this TMV Podcast, Salim speaks to Yaser, a Muslim based in Auckland, about the attacks and his initial reaction as well as the reaction of the New Zealand Muslim community and the public at large. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives. Al-fatiha. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/themuslimvibe/message
