This show is full of laughs and great stories, just like Tales of the Chase episodes are intended.  Today, the guys have on friends Jimmy Schlichting and Brian Houk to talk about Jimmy getting into deer hunting in his late thirties.  We talk about what got Jimmy interested and the process he took getting to where he started hunting.  Brian was instrumental in helping (and some pushing) Jimmy along in this process and you will hear that during the show.  Finally, we get to hear some great stories from the first two years Jimmy started hunting and how everything ultimately led to him harvesting his first deer ever........at the young age of 39.

If you get nothing else from this show, just remember it's never too late to start an obsession and just take someone hunting!

This week we had the pleasure of traveling to Duckhorn Outdoors Adventures at Duckhorn Lodge and sitting down with Walt Disney (same name, no cool amusement park) with Duckhorn Outdoors as well as Tim Worley and Tony Larson with MO Vets Outdoors.  Duckhorn is an organization dedicated to getting individuals involved in the outdoors.  Specifically, their stated vision is to "provide life changing outdoor experiences that enrich the lives of veterans, first responders, youth and citizens of the Heartland."  Walt explains to the listeners what Duckhorn provides to those they serve.

This last weekend was also their MO Vets Outdoors duck hunt, where dozens of vets got to come out to their lodge, enjoy comradery, time with their families, and have some awesome duck hunting experiences.  Tony and Tim explain just how important it is for them to partner with other non profit organizations like Duckhorn to be able to provide these things to vets who need it.

This episode is full of laughs, stories, and serious conversation as to exactly why Duckhorn started doing what they do today for people who deserve an outdoor sanctuary and experience.  Lastly, we would like to add that Walt, Tim, and Tony all served in the United States Military and we at Missouri Woods & Water are eternally grateful to all of them for their sacrifice of possible life and limb for each and every one of us.

Rank #9: Rifle/Rut Recap & More Success & Stories

Podcast cover
Read more

In an impromptu episode, the guys sit down and discuss how the rifle portion of the season has been going.  Rifle season in Missouri usually lines up with the rut, and this year appears to be no different so we had a lot to go over since our mid season recap.

First, the guys get to talk to an 8 year old fan, Brooks, who harvested his first deer ever on opening morning.  We got the pleasure of getting to hear his story and how excited he was to take his first deer with his dad right by his side.  What an awesome job Brooks did telling his story.  After that, Nate, Micah, and Andy get into how the rut has been going for each of them.  Micah has had a lot of fun at his annual deer camp up North and Andy has been hunting hard trying to capitalize.  Nate was able to harvest a buck he has been after for a few years on opening morning and gets to tell that story as well.

Good luck to everyone the rest of the season, there is a lot of it left!

Rank #10: 2020 Archery Season Recap

Podcast cover
Read more

We are about halfway through the hunting season in the state of Missouri and recording this episode just before rifle season kicks off, so we thought it would be a good time to recap how things have been going up to this point for the Missouri Woods & Water guys.  Today, the guys have on returning guests and buddies Russell Ryun and Pat Slivkov on to check in on our seasons.  Our group has had some success, some strategy and learning new properties, and unfortunately some failure as well.

We dive into shots, the reactions from deer after the shot, and using the signs given post shot that lead to the ultimate recovery of deer and how using those signs are important in the recovery.  We also go into lessons we may have taken away from each hunt, whether successful or not.  Even in our successes there are things to learn from.  More than anything, we have some fun talking about deer hunting.  The best part is we are really just getting started.  Happy hunting everyone!!!
