Dear Larissa, it’s rare that I leave a review but I had to take the time to thank you. So much to say and not enough space! I’ll simplify, I’ve been overdosing on many of your podcasts and I’m thoroughly enjoying and learning from them. I previously owned a small salon and got overwhelmed and overworked and sold it. Four years later I’m realizing I want to do it again! I’m scared and excited. I’m trying to learn from my mistakes and be brave. Thank you for all that you do, you are making a difference. I appreciate all your wisdom and your gas as well! Wishing you much success!

Rank #4: How to Ensure Your Team Gets Along

Podcast cover

In any workplace, one of the biggest challenges is figuring out the way a load of different personalities will work together.

And in the Hair & Beauty Industry, where there can often be something like 20 people crammed in a small space at any given moment… this challenge is even more prominent.

It’s like a pressure cooker!

One of the struggles I see most often faced by Salon Owners is dealing with team dynamics. It could be that their team aren’t getting along, or maybe they aren’t getting along with their team.

Today I want you to meet BJ Gallagher Hateley. BJ is an expert on the way different personalities intersect- and her “Birds of a Different Feather” shaped my Salon Owning experience, by helping my team learn how to get along like a well-oiled machine and explaining the reason for clashing personalities.

In this episode, you’ll hear about:

  • [0:00]- Meet BJ
  • [1:00]- Her story
  • [7:06]- We all see things differently
  • [10:30]- The birds

If this describes you, you’re going to love listening to my conversation with today’s guest, Chelle Neff, the owner of Urban Betty Salon in Austin, Texas.

Rank #11: The Natural Evolution of Growing Your Salon Team

One of the biggest steps in growing toward your vision for Freedom & Profit as a salon owner is building your team.

Your team is what allows you to actually step out from behind the chair and truly be a salon owner, but as my guest on today’s episode, Fallene Wells, points out, growing a team is an evolutionary process and one you can’t wait to have “perfectly in place” before you begin to grow.

Fallene is the owner of Let ‘Em Have It Salon in Denver, Colorado, which also happens to be one of the few Certified B Corporation salons in the world. During our discussion we covered everything from her stint on Season 9 of Project Runway and how that played into her journey to becoming a salon owner, the natural evolution of her business model and team structure, and how she earned the designation as one of the most sustainable salons on the planet.

This episode is all about how to be the best boss for your team, and how to build a Rockstar Team.

5 Steps to Achieve a Breakthrough Year

Podcast cover
Read more

It’s 2020... And it’s the beginning of a new decade.

I remember when I owned my Salon and we were planning for 2020.

We had a really clear-set vision and mission for the year 2020. It felt so ‘big’ and far away...

Well, that’s because it kind of is! This is big... like, 2020 it a big deal!

So I want to make sure that you make 2020 your year.

Maybe you’ve had a year of feeling stuck, or like nothing that you try is really working. Or maybe this year you’ve felt overwhelmed with all the things.

Has this last year has been full of too many cans open, too many things on the bubble and nothing actually getting done?

What if you could make 2020 a breakthrough year… rather than just having another year of 'average'?

In this episode, I'll tell you the exact steps you need to take to make this year your best year yet.

How to be the BEST Boss & Have the BEST Team

Podcast cover
Read more

When I talk to the Salon Owners that I know and work with, there’s one common struggle faced by most of them, that really stands out.

Can you guess what it is?

Well, I’ll tell you- it’s that they’re having problems with their team.

Do you relate to this? Comment below if you ever have struggles with your team.

I know that when I had my own Salon, if there was 1 team member who had a bad attitude, or even if I was having a bad day, it’d bring the whole morale down and everyone would struggle.

That’s because one of the most essential keys of a great team culture is JOY!

Not only do your team need to be happy to be at the Salona and be getting along, but you as the boss and CEO also need to be a good example of what joy looks like.

After all, you’re in charge around here, so it all starts with you!

Today I’m chatting to Amanda Gore, who’s an expert on Team Culture and how to create a positive, joyful Salon environment.

Smash your Salon Sales with Confidence

Podcast cover
Read more

The #4 LIVE session from my new Podclass Series…

This episode is all about how to smash sales. Let’s face it: money makes the world go around.

If you don’t’ earn money you can’t pay the rent

You can’t buy the products

You can’t pay your team and you can’t open and service your clients

Like, in reality, you must be good at sales or your business just won’t thrive.

For me, I’m not about making sleazy sales for the sake of it. BUT, I do know this to be true:

Those with lower average client spend have lower retention rates, mostly because they get what they booked in for and not what they needed, could have had, should have had, and ultimately wanted.

I want you to prioritise smashing your salon sales in the new year, with confidence, because sales is just an exchange of value.

The thing is, is that we over complicate it and make money this weird thing, and it stops us from delivering real true VALUE to our clients. At the end of the day, people want great hair, great skin and they choose to invest their cash into this. So you need to show them that this is what you can do for them.

In this episode, i’ll cover:

  • How to coach your team to make sales
  • Retention rates
  • Sales is an exchange of value
  • Create a goal-oriented team

A Year in Review: My Best Advice from 2019

Podcast cover
Read more

Let’s take a moment to reflect.

As we step into 2020, a new year filled with new possibilities... we first must look back on the year that’s passed, in order to look forward into 2020.

To make the best of 2020 you must become someone different than you've been in 2019.

If you do the same as you did last year, nothing will change- everything will stay the same. Lunacy is doing the same as you’ve done before, and expecting a different result.

Let’s work toward bringing out your best & becoming a real salon CEO in 2020, instead of just having another year of ‘average’!

I want to dive into some big lessons from 2019… look back on the year that’s gone so that we can have a clear head moving into 2020. Then we can truly focus on Mastering your inner Salon CEO for the year ahead.

Christmas Countdown Week 4: Maximise Sales & Minimise Stress

Podcast cover
Read more

When Christmas gets cray-cray, it can often result in a domino effect.

The Salon is so busy, that your usual standards can start slipping away.

This includes lacking great customer service, not delivering what the client really wants and needs (instead just giving what they booked in for... or even less than that), your team being over-booked and stressed, clients who are over-committed (time-wise and financially)... the list goes on!

But this does not make a smart business. Instead, you need to SLOW down, to speed up and nail Christmas sales without compromising the sanity of you, your team, or your clients.

Today I’ll talk you through how to maximize sales and minimise stress over this busy period. Plus, don’t forget to complete my Maximising Sales Action list… I’ll leave the link below.

Everything in life requires a certain amount of balance in order to truly succeed.

This is especially true when it comes to your business.

I know so many Salon Owners struggle to maintain balance within their own businesses and branding… they want to be the perfect amount of ‘this’ and the perfect amount of ‘that’, they want to sell to one type of person, but also another type of person, or maybe even be everything to everyone…

And can never quite seem to find the happy medium.

Luckily today, you’ll finally get some answers. I’m chatting with Emma Ebeling, an expert in both Salon branding and marketing. She’ll talk you through how to find a perfect balance in the way you present your Salon to the world and balance your Salon’s purpose, personality and positioning.

Christmas Countdown Week 5: What to do on Quiet Days

Podcast cover

The Quiet Day Freak Out. We've all had those quiet days- with zero clients in the appointment book- and we've all probably freaked out about it at one point or another.

The risk of a freak out can be especially high when it happens either before Christmas (in that November quiet time where everyone is booked for December) or after Christmas (when you're so used to being busy that the world feels like it's stopped.)

You can easily start to question your business, your team’s worth and what's gone wrong. I remember my first zero-day... I had a complete freakout!

But once I got over myself, this is what I did to fill the quiet time.

Are you Scared to be Seen Online?

Podcast cover
Read more

Do you ever feel scared of putting yourself out there?

One of the biggest blocks that I’ve noticed Salon Owners struggle with when it comes to Social Media is the fear of being seen and judged online.

These fears can subconsciously control how we act throughout the day- how we do things, why we do things, how we act towards our team…

And we probably don’t even notice it’s happening.

In this episode, I’m speaking with Louise Blakely, who’s an expert on both Digital Marketing and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

Do you ever wish you could become more self-aware, and really grow to understand why you often act the way you do? And how these subconscious behaviours are actually affecting you and your business?

Tune in below to hear all the secrets.

In this episode, you’ll hear all about:

Christmas Countdown Week 7: Plan for 2020

Podcast cover
Read more

I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who doesn’t want to make their business AMAZING!

If you want to move toward your goals, and gain more freedom and more profit in your business, then you need to be clear on not only what your goals and objectives actually are, but also the actions steps you need to take to achieve them.

Many of us take action without any planning.

But this can often result in stress and overwhelm where you're unprepared for the changes that growth can bring. Many fail because they do not take the time to think ahead and plan for success.

In this episode of my Christmas Pop-Up podcast, I’m talking all about planning and goal setting for 2020.

Without a plan, you have no roadmap to tell you which routes will take you from where you are, to where you want to be... and no tour guide to tell you what to do once you get there.

Awesome!
