I really do love the feedback and guests that this podcasts has to offer! Many thought provoking concepts. My only suggestion would be to adjust the volume of the intro and outro recording. I will be listening to the podcast and as the outro comes on, I immediately need to lower the volume. That would be my only feedback to improve, otherwise keep bringing us the great work!

Host: Jason Lauritsen

Guest: Colleen Fuller, Head of Talent and Experience Transformation at Vistaprint

When do you know that you need to do something different with performance management in your organization? What would happen in your organization if you stopped doing the performance appraisal and traditional 360 feedback altogether?

“We sat down and started having real conversations with people. When you engage different groups of people you can learn so much.” - Colleen Fuller

In today’s episode, Jason interviews Colleen Fuller from Vistaprint. There are many people talking about employee experience these days, Colleen and her team are actually doing it.

“What would good look like?” was a question that Colleen and her team started asking a lot. During today’s conversation with Jason, Colleen explains how they blew up their performance management, ratings system, and 360 process to create a feedback system that is working for both management and employees. In the discussion, Colleen shares how they applied the tools of Agile development in HR to drive success. Listeners will learn why today’s workforce is not a one size fits all and how listening to the employees and creating real conversations is the way to creating a human-friendly workplace culture.

This week on the HR Happy Hour Show, we are joined by Josh Bersin, of Bersin by Deloitte, a leading consulting, research and advisory company to talk about some of the key findings and insights from the Deloitte 2017 Human Capital Trends Report.

Josh shared some insights from the research, (over 10,000 respondents), as well as from case studies, inteviews and additional research in these areas. HR Happy Hour 247 - Greenhouse and the Future of Recruiting Technology

Hosts: Steve Boese, Trish McFarlane

Guest: Daniel Chait, Co-founder and CEO, Greenhouse

This week on the show, recorded live in San Francisco on site at Greenhouse Open, the customer event for recruiting technology provider Greenhouse, Steve sat down with Greenhouse Co-founder and CEO Daniel Chait to talk about how companies can become great at recruiting and how modern recruiting technology can help them achieve this goal.

Turns out, at least some of the process changes that companies can implement, like going into candidate interviews with a structured plan, or making sure you understand which are the key elements or attributes that are likely to make a candidate successful can elevate an organization's recruiting function into the top 10%.

Additionally, Dan and Steve talked about the market for recruitment technology, why it might be so crowded with solution providers, and why most recruitment technology providers have made a mistake by trying to make recruiting simple and somehow 'not core' to the business. Dan and Greenhouse feel that recruiting is hard, important, and are creating tools to make organizations successful at these tough challenges.

This was a fun and interesting show - many thanks to Dan and the entire team at Greenhouse for having the HR Happy Hour out at the event. And also, many thanks to our HR Happy Hour Show sponsor Virgin Pulse, www.virginpulse.com.

Guests: Keri Smith, Director of Human Resources, Business Partner and Organizational Development, HH Hunt; Joshua Howland, Director of Product, OC Tanner Labs

This week on the HR Happy Hour Show, Steve recorded live from the OC Tanner Influence Greatness Conference in Park City, Utah and learned how HH Hunt, a 2,000 employee organization is evolving their performance management practices. On the show, Keri Smith of HH Hunt shared their journey from the classic, annual, highly structured, formal, ratings-based, and pretty much hated annual performance review processes, to a newer approach centered around the 1-1 relationship between a manager and an employee. She discussed how the organization prepared to change their performance management practices, how they have set up a framework and structure for managers to lead impactful and engaging conversations with their employees, and how these new methods have served to solidify and strengthen both organizational culture and individual performance.

Joshua shared how the newly released capabilities in the OC Tanner Culture Cloud have supported Keri and HH Hunt in these initiatives and how they are working with all kinds of organizations to enable and empower culture-centered change. This week on the HR Happy Hour Show, Steve is joined by Marie-Claire Barker, Global Chief Talent Officer at Wavemaker. a  global media, content, and technology agency to talk about modern approaches to performance management and creating a culture of feedback.

Wavemaker is a 8,500 person strong, global organization serving many of the world's leading brands, and recruits and develops talented people across many domains - creative, technical, and people who can envision and develop a shared future with their clients.

On the show, Marie-Claire shared how at Wavemaker they have developed and implemented an intentional, performance-driven culture, where organizational and individual goals are visible and shared, feedback (both public and private), is a point of emphasis and leveraged for professional measurement as well as personal growth, and how this culture of feedback and transparency contributes to organizational and client success. We're Only Human 15 - HR Compliance vs. Being a Great Employer

Host: Ben Eubanks

Guest: Mike Haberman

HR compliance is a necessary evil in the workplace. Rarely do employers make it to the top of the "best employers" lists by handling FMLA or DOL regulations well. Yet time and time again we see HR professional flocking to sessions like "Top 10 Ways to Get Sued in 2018." Why do sessions like those attract so much attention when they don't help employers create a more employee-centric, engaging workplace?

In today's discussion, Ben gets the answers to these questions and others by interviewing Mike Haberman, one of the HR industry's best resources for staying on top of compliance and labor requirements. Mike takes a very balanced approach by covering not only the compliance topics, but also by exploring future trends and how employers can improve their HR practices.

It's a fun discussion and listeners will be treated to the story of when Ben was audited by the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division, providing a great example of how NOT to make decisions about what's best for your employees.

HR Happy Hour 202 - Zenefits and Disrupting HR Tech

Recorded Tuesday February 17, 2015

Hosts: Steve Boese , Trish McFarlane

Guests: Parker Conrad,  Co-founder and CEO, Zenefits

In the latest HR Happy Hour Show, we were joined by Parker Conrad, Co-founder and CEO of emerging HR technology solution provider Zenefits. Zenefits has a innovative and unique approach to how it provides technology solutions to their customers - the HR and Benefits administration software is completely free for companies to use, Zenefits earns its revenue from commissions from insurance providers when customers elect to use Zenefits as their broker. It is a disruptive model on many levels.

But beyond that model, Parker shared Zenefits approach to building, supporting, and helping customers succeed with HR technology. One interesting concept Parker shared was the idea of how solutions should only gradually expose complexity to customers, i.e., the most common and generally simplest approaches should be on the surface, and only when more complex options are absolutely needed they should be revealed. This was a fascinating conversation with the CEO of one of the fastest growing enterprise technology companies in any domain - not just HR.

Great Show!
