The University of Badassery Ep. 12: Tony Blauer
Joining us in Episode 12 is a true “professor of badassery,” Tony Blauer, founder Blauer Tactical Systems which is considered one of the most respected self-defense training companies in the world. How respected is Tony? So much so that in the 90s, Pat Mac brought Tony out to work with the Tier 1 unit at Fort Bragg which created a longstanding relationship between Blauer and America’s most elite special forces unit. From Blauer’s website: “Coach Blauer has been in the martial art, self-defense, defensive tactics and combatives industry for almost four decades and is one of the only Combatives experts who has successfully affected training across all the combat related communities: self-defense, combat sports and the military & law enforcement sector. His research on physiology, mind-set as it relates to confrontation management has influenced over three decades of reality-based martial artists. Blauer Tactical Systems (BTS) specializes in the research and development of close quarter tactics & scenario-based training for law enforcement, military and professional self-defense.” What’s great about this episode is that Tony goes even deeper into the mind body connection and breaks down fear like no other. And since he and Mac share a 20+ year friendship, Tony had free reign to blow our minds! The University of Badassery Ep. 10: Lewis & Clark
In this special episode, Mac & C.J. go in-depth on the incredible story of Lewis & Clark and their Corps of Discovery expedition to explore the American West at the direction of Thomas Jefferson. Of course, the story itself is one big tale of badassery, but Mac & C. J. make it more badass with a contemporary analysis that includes Mac’s insights from the perspective of an elite modern commando. Episode 10: Question & Answers 1. What are your thoughts on Judas Priest with Tim Ripper Owens? 2. I wanted to see if Pat could share some inside on how to better prepare for a midnight intruder. You’ve been asleep for four hours next thing you’re alarm goes off and someone is in your house. I myself wear contacts and take them out every night. This is my biggest concern with shooting at night. Glasses are rough as well since they can fog easily if you have to go outside peripheral vision also sucks Shoes are tricky also I’d hate to have to try and run around my house in crocks or flip flops. No one ever really covers this topic and would like to hear your input. 3. Modern metal sounds more heavy and screaming than old school metal. Do you consider 80s metal to be rock? 4. Mac, when you plan your yearly training schedule around the country do you pick the locations first and then get students or do you get requests to come and train then open it up? 5. Are you concerned about relying too much upon personal technology (phones, Alexa, etc)? What’s the best mindset for balancing technology without getting weak and too reliant upon them? 6. Mac, what was the biggest lesson you learned in the forces that applied in civilian life but took some time to realize. Maybe something that wasn’t obvious. 7. What’s the most “unbadass” thing you do or are into? Something that people would think is unbadass. 8. What’s your favorite AC/DC album and why? 9. When should a band hang it up and retire? 10. Are you going to see the new Top Gun? Are you fans of the original? 11. What’s one food that most people love that you don’t? 12. What are thoughts on goal-setting? Daily, weekly, quarterly, yearly, beyond? J. broadcast remotely in order to keep the blaze alive! AND… in this episode we announce something brand new… something you’re going to be pumped about! For two years, Mac & C. J. have discussed a project that is now launching, and it’s a private, online, video-based coaching community called… “Pat Mac’s Keep the Blaze Alive Coaching Squad!” The Squad is a video-based coaching community where you’ll have access to premium content that Mac doesn’t share on YouTube or social media including Sentinel instruction, Basic Dude Stuff, Combat Strength Training, motivation, and more. I can get the job, however, I will be explaining the dumb shit I’ve done in my past (specifically smoking weed for damn near 20 years and breaking into a convenience store after hours and robbing the cash register). I’m not that guy anymore and I was wondering how you would articulate that, and the fact I’d like to make up for my less than honorable past. How do you make real-world statements to political entities (they operate in the black and white, the rest of the world lives in the grey)? 2. Hey, big fan of the podcast. My friends and I were discussing this today and I thought it would be a great question/ discussion topic for the podcast: 5 finger death punch seems to me like it is becoming the Nickleback of metal. Everyone will listen to them but no one really wants to admit it. Do y’all see this as a trend, and if so why do you think that is? 3. Hello! I have another question, again about minimums. Considering the idea of the combat chassis, of course, we always strive for more and better, but what would be a good minimum body fat % to strive for? 3% is very hard, 25% is too much. 4. I’ve never had much interest in hobbies and Mac says he’s “hobby heavy.” Does he think something like that can be developed in someone who isn’t into hobbies? He makes it look like a blast. 5. How does Mac maintain his cool dealing with dumb questions… like this one?! 6. What’s something about either one of you that most people don’t know? 7. What do you guys think about events like concerts now? They’re saying that may not come back until 2021. 8. What’s the most important thing(s) to start teaching my kids about being sentinels themselves? Or more aware? 9. I’m struggling with my attitude and negativity during this crisis? Honestly, I’m anxious about it for me and my family. How do I deal with this? 10. Learning to love heavy metal, but it’s weirding my wife out. What I do, dudes?! How do I explain it to her?
