April 12, 2016, 16 year old Mekayla Bali failed to meet her ride home from her Yorkton, SK high school. It was then discovered Mekayla never attended classes that day, despite having been dropped off at the school earlier that morning.

Over a year later, Mekayla has yet to be located and her family knows little more than they did that day.

Investigators were able to build a timeline of her unusual activities that day, but the information contained only creates more questions... most notably where did she go after 1:45pm and why?

Rank #4: The Story of Lindsay Souvannarath - 1 - An Introduction

Podcast cover
Read more

It seems that nearly everyday we have a new example of someone, or someones, who's internal conflict culminates in a violent attack on members of the public.

The fact that these events happen is terrifying, something that I’ve to dealt with using the same naive thought process that many affected by these tragedies can likely relate to.

I've taken comfort in the ignorant believe that things like that wouldn't happen here, but regardless if you are referring to my here or yours, here is Exactly where these things happen.

in 2015, on the eve of Valentine's day, the people of Halifax would learn they aren’t exempt from the type of nightmares that play out on American news stations.

a local 19 year old James Gamble and his girlfriend, 23 year old American Lindsay Souvannarath, had taken the first steps in a plot to shoot and kill as many people as possible in the Halifax Shopping Centre food court before taking their own lives, just like the other murderous pair they idolized… the Columbine shooters.

In this introductory episode, the foundation will be laid for an ongoing series in which the surviving architect of the Valentine's day massacre, the enigmatic Lindsay Souvannarath, will break the silence she has maintained since boarding a plane to Nova Scotia with murderous intentions.

**This episode was original released April 29, 2018**

Although Canada is no stranger to murder, madness and mayhem, we have been very fortunate to have largely avoided the type of mass murders and shootings that have become common fixtures in other countries with similar values and cultures to our own.

Sadly, just days prior to recording this episode Younge Street in Downtown Toronto was the setting of an event that many Canadians take comfort in thinking could never happen here.

In this episode, I'll be joined by my best friend Scott to discuss the April 2018 Toronto Van Attack. Our discussion includes the event, the arrest, what is known of the man driving the van, his rumored ideological motivation, and sadly… we will discuss the innocent people killed during this horrible event.

The students who descend on Halifax each year come from far and wide, but despite the depth of their diversity, there is at least one thing they all have in common.

It's a dark brooding thing that dwells in the pits of their parent’s stomachs.

Luckily, it's easily ignored with the simple thought "that stuff doesn't happen in Halifax" or "my kid is too smart for that".

But, as a tragic few have learned, ignoring it is about as effective as covering your eyes to avoid an oncoming train.

Nightmares do come true, and they often happen to good people.

Here is one such nightmare.

the 1989 disappearance of then 19 year old Kimberly McAndrew who was last seen exiting the Canadian Tire store she worked at.

During this episode we will learn about Kim's disappearance, two possibly related crimes against young women, and three equally disturbing suspects.

Rank #17: Glove Guy - 1 - The Legend of Halifax's Glove Guy

Podcast cover
Read more

Halifax, Nova Scotia is a city with no shortage tall tales, folklore, and urban legends. I dare say Gloveguy is stranger than all of them.

I first heard the story a few years back... Much like many urban legends, a friend of a friend was said to have had an encounter with a man who makes a hobby of offering Halifax's young men rides late at night, only to reveal a bizarre leather glove fetish after they've entered his vehicle.

I cant really explain why, but I immediately dismissed it as untrue or an exaggeration.

Perhaps I've become too skeptical but It had all the trappings of an urban legend.... I suppose I assumed it was a creative story dreamed up to scare our many university students into being cautious in the big city.

But, as you will soon hear... my initial conclusion couldn't have been more wrong.

My opinion on the existence of the Glove Guy, changed for me when a local man shared the details of a strange late night encounter with a glove salesmen on a local online discussion group.... This man's story, obviously hit a nerve as within a matter of hours a chorus of others joined the discussion to share their similar stories... and many of them included photos and in some cases secretly filmed video of the interactions.

Immediately i was faced with the realization that the story I had assumed too bizarre to be true... was real. and it wasn't a few isolated events. This Glove fetishing, ride offering, mystery man seemed to have picked up, and freaked out, at least one friend of a friend no matter who you've asked....

Obviously, I had to learn all I could.

So get in, sit down, and put on your seat belt...

Tonight, In this episode, we are going to pop open the glove box and dig into the stranger than fiction legend of Halifax's glove guy.

For a 911 operator fielding calls from a university city like Halifax, a Friday night is sure to be a mixed bag. Periods of silence are book ended by frantic calls from the evening's darker moments.

As the sun begins to rise the hectic Friday night becomes a quiet Saturday morning and there is a big difference.

As you will hear during this episode, there was nothing typical about the morning of Saturday March 26th, 2016.

An October phone call inviting Steve Vernon, my favorite local horror author, to appear on Nighttime has become a Halloween tradition.

For the fourth year in a row, He agreed to share his tales of terror and bloodshed.

The plan we came up with was similar to prior years, but with a few twists.

I got the idea during a recent walk through a nearby forest, while lost in both my headphones and the twisting trails, I happened upon an abandoned and long overgrown hunting type shack that I thought would be a perfect spot to drag Steve and my mobile studio to.

To take full advantage of the ambiance of an old growth forest, I asked Steve he he would pull some stories from a prior story collection he released called Wicked Woods; Ghost stories from Old New Brunswick.

Steve Vernon did not disappointment.

In this episode, you will hear two chilling tales from haunted New Brunswick written and read by my friend and my favorite Horror Author, Steve Vernon.

Rank #20: The Murder of Daniel Levesque - 1 - Web of Lies

Podcast cover
Read more

Aug 2011, Victoria, BC

When 20 year old Daniel Levesque moved from small town Revelstoke, BC to the comparatively big city of Victoria it was to pursue his dream of finding a career as a performing musician.

Tragically, Daniel would only get a handful of weeks to make things happen as his time in Victoria, and the dreams that brought him there, would be snuffed out by the manager of the convenience store Daniel had taken a job at.

That manager, Josh Bredo, befriended Daniel and weaved an intricate web of lies that played off Daniel's kindness, generosity, and his trusting nature.

The lies would finally catch up to them both when Daniel showed up what he thought was Josh's condo, in what he expected to be an orientation for a new career as a legal secretary for Josh's mothers law firm.

Instead, Daniel found betrayal.

There was no orientation, no job... there wasn't even a law firm.

There was just the manager of the 7/11 eleven, a man Daniel thought to be a friend... but he couldn't have been more wrong.

In this two part series, Kristi Lee of Canadian True Crime and Jordan Bonaparte of Nighttime will collaborate on the telling of this story that should make anyone with a respect for justice scream.

In part one, Kristi will provide a narrative account of the twists and turns in this heartbreaking story.

In Part two, Jordan will take the lead on the story and feature an in depth discussion with Daniel's mom, the inspiring Stacey Thur.
