Rank #1: Sexual Sanctification

WARNING: There may be information that is unsuitable for children. Parents, please be discerning with your children. Thank you.

It’s a lengthy but glorious episode this week. I had Matthew Coker (aka Back Row Believer) join me for some fun and games, as well as some serious talk. I gave Matthew a Justin Bieber quiz to see if he should be called Back Row Belieber.

After the laughs, Matthew talks about his testimony and how God delivered him from a serious (and criminal) porn addiction. Afterwards, I talk about my testimony about how God saved me from homosexuality. I also talk about why that deliverance (eventually) cemented my theology into Calvinism.

We talk about progressive sanctification and also practical ways to gain freedom while God is freeing you from a sexual addiction. We also talk about how to combat guilt and shame and how the church can balance sexual purity and being a help to those who are struggle with sexual sin.

To find out more information or contact Matthew Coker, see his main parody account on Twitter at @backrowbeliever and his real account @matthewscoker. Also check out his blog at http://www.backrowonline.com and his YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/BackRowVideos.

Finally, after much pestering on Twitter, I was excited to have Aimee Byrd on the show this week. You might know her as one of the co-host of the podcast “Mortification of Spin”, which it seems I get early every week….because I’m Batman. She also wrote the book “Housewife Theologian”. Listen as I attempt to get her to answer the question we all want to know.

After the small game, Aimee and I talk about being a confessional Christian. We start immediately that all believers, and technically all people in general, have a creed/confession of some kind, just most of them aren’t written down or intentional. Coming from a denomination that doesn’t hold to a standard of beliefs like the Westminster Confession, I was really intrigued with what Aimee was sharing.

We also talked about the “no creed but Jesus” people. Silly rabbits.

To find out more about Aimee, you can find her on Twitter at @aimeebyrdhwt and through her website at http://www.housewifetheologian.com

I was blessed to have Tim Hurd, co-host of the Bible Thumping Wingnut podcast, to join me on the podcast this week. Tim is a good friend and one of the few podcasts I look forward to listening to each week. After introductions, I challenge Tim to a game of "Would You Rather?" Tim proves why this is my favorite game.

After the game, Tim and I talk ed a little about how to run a podcast and what are setups are. We gave some good encouragements to those thinking of starting their own podcast. After that, Tim gave part of his testimony and then we talked about adultery. I was a really emotional time for both of us and I hope our (rather frank) discussion of it both warns and encourages many.

Afterwards, we talked for a while about gun control and the responsibility of protecting your spouse and children. Rank #8: DC Animated Calvinism

Podcast cover

ANNOUNCEMENT: From now on we will be releasing new episodes on Tuesdays instead of Thursdays.

This week I have my good friend and partner-in-crime, The Super Theologian, join me as we talk about movies and Calvinism. You know, the same old stuff. We talked about how the Super Theologian revealed his real identity to be Kyle James Howard. We also talked about the greatness of DC Animated films and argued what the best Batman film is. (Hint: It's the Dark Knight Returns)

Afterwards, Kyle and I had a deep and lenthy (seriously) discussion about Calvinism. Coming on the heels of last week's intro to theonomy, we decided to do an intro to Calvinism, looking at TULIP through a whole-bible lens. Kyle was excellent in giving the history and reasons why TULIP came to be and why Armianism called for the church to puts its doctrine on salvation and sovereignty into five points. This is a great episode for those who are on the fence about Calvinism and it is refreshing for those who have been reformed for a long time.

To find out more about The Super Theologian and/or Kyle, follow him on Twitter at @supertheologian and @kylejameshoward. You can leave him a question at http://www.ask.fm/ttheologian, which he will often answer on his podcast "The Super Theologian Q&A".

It's the first week of February and I was delighted to have Elyse Fitzpatrick on the show.

We talked about our Super Bowl plans and I found out that Elyse likes baseball instead. After that heartbreak, I needed some counseling (just kidding). It's a good thing that Elyse has been a counselor for almost 20 years! I talked to her about the differences between secular and biblical counseling, the push for gospel-centered counseling, the church's role in counseling, and the need for more women counselors in the church.

It was a great, focused, and short talk. To find out more about Elyse, follow her on Twitter at @elysefitz or check out her website http://www.elysefitzpatrick.com/. In this episode, I stayed up Batman hours to talk to Conrad Mbewe, a pastor in Zambia, Africa. After introductions, I asked him who would win in a fight: Voddie Baucham or Thabiti Anyabwile? I don’t think his answer will surprise anyone. ;)

We talked much about preaching in this episode. I asked his for things that concerned him in the church and also things that gave him hope. We finished off by talking about his most recent book and about church planting. Those who are called to overseas missions will want to listen to this episode.
