Where has the anti-war movement gone? Joining us to answer that question is Brad Simpson, a longtime antiwar activist, and scholar of imperialist misadventure. We delve into the latest aggression by the Trump administration in Iraq and develop a genealogy of the antiwar movement from the 1980s to the present.
Is the antiwar movement dead? Not entirely -- and the news is certainly not all bad. Tune in to find out why.

We're currently in between Season 1 and Season 2, so we've decided to take the opportunity to reproduce the "Anti-Essentialism Series" from the summer of 2017 in a more linear and coherent fashion. Old and new listeners, alike, will benefit from this presentation that will unfold over the next week, which develops a critical analysis of the relationship between capitalism and the creation of marginalized identities (race, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, etc.)
Episode 1 will revisit my discussion with Vivek Chibber: "What is class and why does it matter?"
We discuss Vivek's article from Catalyst, Vol 1, Issue 1, called "Rescuing Class from the Cultural Turn," https://catalyst-journal.com/vol1/no1/cultural-turn-vivek-chibber

In particular, we'll be addressing the proposal to establish an autonomous "Afro-socialist and Socialists of Color Caucus." In this episode of Dead Pundits Society, we tackle the most important distinction between Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren -- that is, Democratic Socialism vs. Progressivism. Why is it that Progressivism cannot achieve what it sets out, and why does democratic socialism offer the fix for progressivism's shortcomings? Tune in to find out.

What is the meaning of Democratic Socialism? In the wake of both Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s primary victory and Cynthia Nixon’s claim that she identifies as a democratic socialist, activists and political actors of all stripes are circling the wagons as they attempt to carve out the meaning on democratic socialism. Joining us this week to hash out these questions is Benjamin Studebaker, a PhD student in Politics at Cambridge University, whose blog pieces claiming that “the left is not a church” caused quite a stir a few months ago. Tune in for a discussion on how socialists should engage with this exciting moment.
-We referenced Michael Kinnucan’s excellent piece, “Why Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Won,” towards the end of the episode: https://jacobinmag.com/2018/06/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-election-crowley-democratic-socialists

Joining me this week to talk about Marxian and Neo-Marxian State Theory is Rafael Khachaturian, a scholar and research associate at the University of Pittsburgh. We argue for the centrality of the capitalist state in our approach to achieving Socialism for Regular-Ass People, and we break down the concept of the state from Marx to Gramsci.
What is the State? Why does it matter? What did Marx, Lenin, and others have to say about it? Tune in to find out.

Is everything neoliberal these days? Joining us to discuss the meaning and impact of neoliberalism in 2019 is Nick Kiersey, professor of political science at the University of Texas-Rio Grande. We discuss the controversial legacy and Foucault and what his insights might add to a discussion of the political-economic dimensions of neoliberalism and late capitalism.
Our recent series of public ownership begs an answer to the following question: if we seek to build a post-neoliberal society, what signposts might an analysis of contemporary neoliberalism provide in that effort? Tune in to find out!
