Valerie Waegerle emailed a photo on Facebook: "Hi there! I am a new listener and this podcast has quickly turned into one of my favorites. I've noticed that usually there's a theme to the podcast... Mother's Day, St Patricks, Summer Festival, etc. I was wondering if I could make a request for one week to be lullaby/nursery children's themed. I have a 2 week newborn and I'm seeking quality celtic music that would soothe him to sleep and music that would be fun children's songs to sing to him. So I have one piece of advice. Do it! I’m not saying you should join me on one of my Celtic Invasion Vacations. I’m not saying you should join another tour group. But travel. Go. Right now. Mark Twain wrote: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” Traveling will change your life for the better forever. Stop waiting for the “right moment”. Start planning now. If you enjoy my music, then join me on a Celtic Invasion of another Celtic country. In 2016, we’re going to Cornwall in search of Celtic culture, King Arthur and the Holy Grail. Will you join us? You can send a written comment along with a picture of what you're doing while listening. Email a voicemail message to celticpodcast@gmail.com Katherine Horning emailed on Facebook: "Hello! I was just listening to episode #239 and the song at about 101 minutes was so great. I think it’s Girl in the Street. I’m a dog walker, so that’s probably why it resonated. But I tried to google it and can’t find it. Please help me! Where can I find this song and artist? Thank you for your wonderful podcast. I started playing harp this year and have found your show very inspiring!" You can find Nick Hennessey at http://nickhennessey.co.uk/. Sadly, I don’t see his CD as available. José Villanueva Music emailed: "Hi Marc!  Firstly I wanna say Congratulations!!! Your podcast is great and I listen to it as much I can. I've been looking for a song called "The Hunter Set" but I didn't find the episode where you set it. I had a tried on Youtube but they deleted the video. Do you have the complete name or your episode? Thank you so much! Cheers from Sonora, Mexico!" Tanya Sapien emailed: "Hey Marc, Tanya Sapien here, I re-wrote this like ten times, so sorry if it seems scatterbrained. I've been listening to you for years, I can't remember when or where I first picked the podcast up, and I've been meaning to write in for ages but I always chickened out, always that is until now. In your last episode a trans woman wrote in and said she's had a hard time finding others like herself in the audience, so being a trans woman myself I took that as a sign it was time to speak up. Your podcast has always brought warmth into my life from things as mundane as tending the fire pit to as exciting as my recent cross-country bus ride to meet my boyfriend face-to-face for the first time. Your chipper positivity has been a beacon of light in a dark world, and when I'm constantly surrounded by people that choose hating their enemies before loving their friends and who insist every single facet of life has to be a political statement, I'm glad I still find refuge here. There's no left or right, no black nor white, No red against blue we don't fight over hue We're just here to play so sing here all day shed your dismay in Gunn's name I say; Have a beautiful Yule today." #celtictop20 #bestcelticmusic #topcelticmusic

Email a voicemail message to celticpodcast@gmail.com Henry Meger emailed: "Dia dhuit, Marc, I discovered your podcast last spring and have been entranced and charmed with it ever since as I catch up to date. Just wanted to send some personal thanks. My father has been playing Celtic guitar for most of his life and all of mine, so it's been in the house since day one. I thought I had heard it all, each corner and subgenre to be found, but my library has been greatly and duly humbled by your extensive and seasoned pallet. I've shared the podcast and many of its contents with my dad, and it has enriched our Celtic cosmos remarkably. I took the podcast with me last summer while studying abroad in Russia and it was a wonderful way to keep in touch with my roots during my commute. Having also spent time in non-Celtic Spain, the Galicia episode opened another door in my musical conception of Iberia. In short, Thank you!! An amateur flute player myself, I would love to hear a flute-heavy episode, and I'm sure all musicians who listen to the podcast would love their own instrument-themed episodes. Just a thought that has crossed my mind (not that you don't have plenty already!) Keep up the fantastic work---it's very much appreciated!" Thank you Henry. I haven't done a flute or whistle episode. Let me see what I can put together. I wish I had an easy way to search my archive for flute music. Sadly, I don't. But perhaps I can reach out to you and all my listeners. If you have heard some bands with flute or whistle, please email me the band names so I can make a possible list of the podcast. Jennifer Lohman emailed a picture: "While I am listening to your podcast from Terra Alta, WV (USA) 31 degrees here today-so the dogs & I are staying in." Stephen Reimann emailed: "Dear Celt Father, I am a big fan of your show and what you are doing to add breadth and depth to those who listen to Celtic music. I am an Account Manager for a major Pharmaceutical company which requires an extensive amount of driving.  By extensive I mean on average 60K miles each year.  Your podcast enables me to not only pass the time driving between accounts, but also increase my knowledge and love of all things musically Irish and Celtic.  The theme diversity of your shows is stellar.  Just like Christopher Walken’s SNL character, The Bruce Dickinson, needed “More Cowbell,” I need more bagpipes.  Any chance of another Bagpipe theme’d show in the near future? Thank you for all you do to sharpen our proverbial musical sgian-dubhs." Stephen “Bow Tie Steve” Reimann (Rye-man) Thanks Bow Tie Steve. Yeah. You can never have enough bagpipes. It will have to be a few months, but I'll add that to the list as well. Maybe I should add both this and the flute show as milestones... Would you be interested in another bagpipe show as well. Drop me a line.

So I have one piece of advice. Do it! I'm not saying you should join me on one of my Celtic Invasion Vacations. I'm not saying you should join another tour group. But travel. Go. Right now. Mark Twain wrote: "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." Traveling will change your life for the better forever. Stop waiting for the "right moment". Start planning now. If you enjoy my music, then join me on a Celtic Invasion of another Celtic country. In 2016, we're going to Cornwall in search of Celtic culture, King Arthur and the Holy Grail. Will you join us? #217: 10 Years of Great Irish & Celtic Music, a Retrospective

On July 28, 2005, the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast was born from my love of Celtic music. I had been cultivating that love through my Celtic Music Magazine which featured album reviews and free Celtic MP3 downloads from many of the bands on this podcast. The podcast quickly overtook the magazine in popularity. I had three main goals when I created this show. First, to help indie Celtic bands find new fans. Second, to give Celtic music fans a free, easily downloadable show where they could enjoy the music of their cultural heritage. Third, I wanted a Celtic radio show that was focused on the music. What's that phrase: "Less talk, more music". But I wanted it to be true. So I have long sets and usually short breaks where I share news and feedback. There are a bunch of additional reasons, including a latent desire to be a DJ. I'll tell you more about it later. In the meantime, I want to share with you some of the best Celtic music featured in the podcast over the past ten years. Every month, I host the Celtic Top 20 where I ask you to vote for your favorite songs in each episode of the podcast. I've done this since almost the first year. That's how I created this show. It's the songs that fans of the podcast voted for over the last ten years. I just went in and cut down ten hours of music to a meer three hours. I hope you will celebrate your love of Celtic music with me and these amazing Celtic bands with music from The Tea Merchants, Heather Alexander, The McDades, Colleen Raney & Colm MacCarthaigh, Jamie Laval and Ashley Broder, Clandestine, Athas, Sligo Rags, Navan, Jimi McRae And Sam Okoo, Heather Dale, Hawp, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Round the House in the first hour. You'll hear The Elders, Mary Knickle, Kennedy’s Kitchen, Tara MacKenzie, Fiddler’s Green, Rising Gael, Rambling Sailors, Bow Triplets, Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer, Poitin, Ockham’s Razor, Gwilym Morus, LabGraal, The Selkie Girls in the second hour. Then we'll finish the show with Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones, Maidens IV, The Gothard Sisters, The Killdares, Tullamore, Marc Gunn, Across the Pond, Anne Roos, Holly Kirby, Molly Bauckham, Tallymoore, Samantha Gillogly & Tim Maurice, Stout Pounders, Rathkeltair, Black 47, The Rogues, Flashpoint. These guys run a great website out of Dublin, Ireland. They make Celtic Rings & Jewelry for Men & Women and ship for Free all over the world. A few years ago my wife and I ordered our own Celtic Wedding Rings from My Irish Jeweler. We chose the embossed trinity knot wedding ring. The trinity knot is a special celtic symbol that is used throughout celtic art & literature. It can represent faith or eternity, making it the perfect symbol for our ceremony. But it's not just about wedding rings. My Irish Jeweler has a great range of Celtic Cross Pendants, Claddagh Jewelry and other super gift ideas. Always made in Ireland. Always free shipping. My Irish Jeweler is offering a 10% discount to listeners of this podcast. Just follow the link in the shownotes. I've been listening to your podcast for a few years now, and have always loved discovering new bands and artists every week. Last night, I had the wonderful opportunity to go see a show by a band called the Recollective, a fairly new Celtic group. I wasn't sure if you'd heard of them, but if not, you should definitely check them out!! They played an outstanding concert, and they were all very lovely people. Thanks so much for all your hard work in creating your awesome show! Cheers" Hank Woodward emailed: "Hi Marc, Just want to pass along another huge thank you for all you do in bringing us wonderful music through the Irish & Celtic Music podcast. Also wanted to relate a great musical experience I got to share with my son Jackson (rising 9th grade violist) about a month ago. We got to see Mithril perform with the local Johnson City (TN) Symphony Orchestra. I got to talk a bit with the fiddler, Tom Morely, and let him know that I first heard their music on the Irish & Celtic Music podcast. The performance was doubly special to us, as three of the performers in the orchestra we know personally through the music school (Suzuki Talent Education of Appalachia), where my son and I take our viola lessons. Thanks again for continuing to bring us all the fantastic music on the Irish & Celtic Music podcast. This is an extra-special episode of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. Every year since 2005, I release an article titled "17 Free Celtic MP3s for St Patrick's Day". I follow it up with a podcast that highlights all of the music that you can download for FREE! This is that podcast. I want you to listen to this show. Then head over to the shownotes at celticmusicpodcast.com, and follow the link to download all 17 tracks in this show with no strings attached. And this is sort of what you get every month when you become a Patron of the Podcast as a Song Henger, pledging at least $5 per month. I hope the move went well Karl! John Thompson emailed: "Hey Marc, I was listening to episode 338 (Christmas show) of the Irish & Celtic Music podcast and was blown away by the song "Glasgow Christmas Rain" by Highland Reign. I went on Youtube and watched just about every Highland Reign video I could find. Then I went to CD Baby, bought 3 of their CDs and downloaded a fourth. I'm going to post a message to their website to say how amazing they sound and that I heard them on YOUR show. They're from the midwest so I probably never would have discovered them without the Irish & Celtic music podcast. (I'm in Philly and the only other Celtic group from the midwest I've run into in this neck of the woods is The Elders -- another fantastic band!). You ABSOLUTELY make a difference! I've been a Celtic music fan for a long time but have only been a listener and patron of the Irish & Celtic Music podcast for the last few years. I wish I had found it sooner. Your podcast never disappoints!" Thank you SO MUCH, John! I love hearing about which bands and songs inspire you. And that you're actually buying music. Musicians have it tough in this day and age. I'm extremely pleased that the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast can connect Celtic bands with Celtic music fans. It's a challenge. But that's why I am here. So keep listening. Keeping telling your friends about the show. And when this episode is over, go thank one of these bands for being awesome!
