Rank #1: 318: Denise Jacobs - How To Overcome Your Inner Critic

Podcast cover
Read more

Everyone knows that nothing holds a creative back more than themselves. We all think that we’re not good enough. We get jealous of others, and give up before we even try. We believe our skills just aren’t good enough.

STOP.

You’re just letting your inner critic control your brain. You need to learn to acknowledge the critic, and see what it’s really telling you. You can learn a lot about yourself from your inner critic, but you can’t let it control your life. There are a few things that cause an inner critic to come out and take control:

  • Envy of other
  • Too much self criticism
  • Not letting go of emotions
  • Pressure from deadlines and our environment
  • Fear

It’s easy to let our mind’s get wrapped up in thoughts, emotions, and fears. In fact it’s something we’ve done our entire lives. When you first learn to accept and acknowledge the inner critic, but not let it control your emotions and life it can be very unsettling. So many people get uncomfortable without it that they end up reverting right back to their old habits.

On this episode of the Creative Warrior podcast we are joined by Denise Jacobs, who teaches us the various critics we have inside of ourselves and how we can conquer them.

Download this episode today to learn how you can start to change your perspective, stop holding yourself back, and get into the truly creative place you need to be in to find the success you want.

WONDER WOMAN WARRIOR

“Creativity and flow state comes from relaxing self-evaluation and self-judgment.” -Denise Jacobs

  • You have to trust yourself and relax into a situation to produce your best results.
  • If you are having writer’s block, go do something creative and fun.

  • We connect our inner critic with drama.
  • Emotions are meant to pass through us - let them go.
  • Name your inner critic and address it when it shows up.
  • When you expect something negative is going to happen, you look for anything negative and make it appear.
  • Separate the inner critic from the attacked self.
  • The inner critic can be helpful. Look for the inner evaluator.
  • It’s easy to get wrapped up in comparisons with today’s social media.
  • Learn from and celebrate other people’s success.
  • All boats rise with the tide.
  • Let your envy motivate you, not paralyze you.

Rank #3: 327: Daniel DiPiazza- Score The Life You Want

Podcast cover
Read more

A lot of people look at Millennials as entitled. Others look at them as lazy. The truth is they are just shifting perspective and are incredibly resourceful. Millennials have found ways to solve new problems by taking the knowledge from previous generations and applying the technology available now.

The Boomers kept a depression mentality, that you did whatever it takes in order to achieve the “American Dream.” They wanted the white picket fence, 2.5 kids, and would do whatever it took to get that. Even if it meant a job that made them miserable. Today Millennials want both their personal and work lives to be something they’re not just happy with, but something they love. Is that really so bad? I don’t see it as entitlement, but the progression of humanity.

On this episode of Creative Warriors we are joined by Daniel DiPiazza, author of Rich20Something: Ditch Your Average Job, Start an Epic Business, and Score the Life You Want. We discuss what makes Millennials different, the importance of the creative process, and how to find the balance between quality and relatability.

Download this episode today to hear what a creative has to do to stay on top in this world!

WARRIOR OF CREATIVITY

“Focus is a super power these days.” -Daniel DiPiazza

Highlights -
  • In creativity, the process is the point - not the outcome.
  • What makes Millennials different is the ability to solve problems.
  • We believe you only get paid for what’s hard.
  • It’s time to lose the Depression mindset.
  • Every generation has helped to create the world we are in now.
  • Money is an idea and the rules are changing.
  • Cryptocurrency is a new decentralized monetary system.
  • There’s hardly a business you can’t turn into a scalable income.
  • Be consistent and prolific with the work you put out.
  • It’s a perfectly acceptable mindset to want to live well and do what you love.

Rank #5: 338: Dan Gingiss- How To Create Exceptional Engaging Experiences on Social Media

Podcast cover
Read more

Most companies shy away from social media, because they are afraid of complaints. They are worried an online presence will give opportunity for their brand to be tarnished by trolls and people who just want to complain about things. However, social media is a great place to engage customers. Using these outlets gives your consumers a voice that they want heard.

Instead of making them bottle up their anger about your product, discuss it with them. By listening to your customers and showing empathy, you can quickly turn those angry posts into positive ones. It’s much easier to turn someone into an advocate of your brand who helps bring more positive attention to your products than you think.

On this episode of the Creative Warriors Podcast we are joined by Dan Gingiss, author of Winning at Social Media Customer Care. He explains what both major and small companies are doing wrong online, and how you can use the digital age to win over millennials.

Download this episode today and see how you can use social media correctly to build a loyal customer base and turn complaints into praise.

WARRIOR OF EMPATHY

“I look at complainers as a huge opportunity.” -Dan Gingiss

Highlights -
  • Social media is the only way consumers get to talk back to advertisers.
  • You want customer service to engage consumers in social media - not social media experts.
  • People share on social media if their expectations are met or not.
  • Companies should embrace complaints, not shy away from them.
  • There is a level of engagement that can be used to create off-line experiences with customers.
  • Caring for customers is what will create customers for life.
  • Most companies forget about the social part of social media.
  • Bots can be useful, but they should not replace the human experience.
  • Technology is moving into human assist, not human replacement.
  • Even small businesses should have at least on person monitoring the major channels.

Rank #6: 353: Sharon Spano- Freedom From Chasing Time and Money

Podcast cover

Do you know where your concept of time and money stems from? Chances are what you were taught as a child, and believed to be a concrete idea, is hurting both your personal and business life. Luckily this can all be changed.

Time and Money are abstract ideas with concrete effects. This leads to a lot of confusion, and most people live in a scarcity mindset. So many of us believe that they have to protect their time and money, but in the end abundance isn’t the answer. To live a meaningful and prosperous life you need to really know the relationship between time and money. Both time and money need to be invested properly so that they can create more of both.

On this episode of Creative Warriors we are joined by Sharon Spano. Sharon has written what I consider to be one of the top three most important books you need to read. She explains the importance of perception on these concepts, as well as really understanding where your ideas of money come from.

Download this episode today and learn how you can shift your mindset and begin to live a more meaningful and prosperous life.

  • Reconsider how you think about the relationship between time and money.
  • You have to change your mindset instead of getting more tools.
  • Many people act out of fear and scarcity.
  • Humans, by nature, are always trying to prove their own theory.
  • Once you become aware of it you can change it.
  • Prosperity is a mindset. It’s a place to come from, not a place to get to.
  • Wealth and abundance are relative.
  • Time and money are both concrete and abstract.
  • Everything you do has an effect on on your business and family systems.
  • Look at your inner language.

Rank #7: 440: Robbie Samuels- Networking as a Marketing Strategy

Podcast cover
Read more

So often we can feel sorry for ourselves because we’re not given the opportunities we think we deserve. We feel overlooked and unappreciated. When we take this attitude, we are avoiding taking responsibility for our relationships. You can’t complain about the results you’re getting if you’re hiding in the corner.

I’ve never been comfortable networking, and it took a mindset shift for me to realize I needed to “get over myself.” The reason I avoided networking is that I had a mindset of scarcity and believed I wouldn’t be able to handle the relationships. Because of this, I’ve missed out on a lot of opportunities throughout the years. It really is true: networking equals impact.

You need to go into networking opportunities with intention. Set yourself up for success by setting aside follow-up time and drafting your emails before you go. Be aware of body language and engage with people who are naturally open. Don’t overthink things like opening lines and instead focus on being interested in learning about other people.

To explore this further, I’ve brought in a networking expert who has truly changed my life: Robbie Samuels. Robbie has been recognized as a “networking expert” by Inc. and Lifehacker, and is the author of the best-selling business book Croissants vs. Bagels: Strategic, Effective, and Inclusive Networking at Conferences. A professional member of the National Speakers Association, he has been speaking on the topic of inclusive networking for over a decade. As a consultant and coach, he shares how to create more inclusive and engaging connections.

Download this episode today to get your head around the abundance that’s available to you through the relationships you can build.

INNER UNICORN WARRIOR

“Your impact on this world is directly related to your willingness to engage your community.” -Robbie Samuels

Highlights -
  • You can’t complain about being overlooked if you’re sitting in the corner.
  • If you’re afraid of a large network, focus on small touchpoints.
  • Ask yourself, “What can I offer?” before attending a networking event.
  • Write your follow-up email draft before you go to the event.
  • Schedule a follow-up time before you go to the event.
  • Come back from events with knowledge that is actionable.
  • Avoid asking the “what do you do” question.
  • Instead of giving your title when people ask you what you do, tell people who you serve.
  • Thank people who have made a great connection for you.
  • Take a host mentality to any event.
  • Don’t “spray and pray” with your business card. It’s like human spam.

Rank #8: 477: Steven Griffith - The Time Cleanse

Podcast cover
Read more

People often say to me, “I don’t have enough time.” This is a scarcity mindset. If you don’t have enough time, what else do you not have enough of? You actually do have enough time, you just might be feeling powerless to choose how you spend it.

A big shift I made was when I started to think of time as a resource. I realized that I’m very environmentally conscious, but I didn’t place the same value on time. Like money, many people have an adversarial relationship with time. Once you fix that underlying mindset, you can start to have control over your time.

To dive deeper into the idea of time, I’ve brought on author, speaker, researcher and performance expert Steven Griffith. He is considered one of the leading authorities on the connection between time, productivity and performance. Griffith has been featured as a keynote speaker and performance expert on ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, Style and Esquire TV and has worked with a variety of organizations including “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the United States Military, Citibank, Wells Fargo, the Los Angeles Police Department, USC, UCLA, The National Academy of Sports Medicine, and the NBA, MLB, NFL and NHL (teams, players and coaches).

To learn how to have a better relationship with time, listen to this episode now.

WARRIOR OF GRIT

“It’s not about managing time, it’s performing with it.” - Steven Griffith

Highlights -
  • Time is your most valuable asset. It allows you to do, be, and have everything.
  • Most people have an adversarial relationship with time.
  • We are living in the fallacy that time is endless.
  • Learned Helpless: we are trained not to choose.
  • Get conscious about your devices. Every swipe, click, and touch is time.
  • Your top five values should be where you’re putting your time and money.
  • Are the things I’m doing today contributing or contaminating my success and happiness?
  • Time Toxin: person, place or thing that consumes, steals, hijacks, contaminates or causes you to be stalled towards what matters most.

Encouraging someone when they've hit a wall and are frustrated is, of course, a good thing. Reminding them that it's "always darkest before the dawn" and "change is right around the corner" is also helpful. But there are times these encouraging words just aren't enough. When someone is brutally honest and says, "I know. But I've been here so many times." They are tired of the cycle. We all know that cycle. We hit a wall, we pick ourselves up, only to find ourselves at that same frustrating point later on. In this episode, I offer a strategy on how to break through the breakthrough problem once and for all.

Branding is something entrepreneurs often overlook and misunderstand. Many people think of branding as just being something that represents your company visually. It actually goes much deeper than that.

Your branding has a lasting impact on your company. When done well your brand will continue to increase the value of your company over time. It’ll create the impression on your consumers that’ll keep bringing them back time and time again. If you really want your brand to work for your it needs to speak to people’s emotions. You need to strike them at their hearts, and appeal to their core. It may sound complicated, and even confusing but it’s really not.

On today’s episode of Creative Warriors we are joined by Steve McKee, who truly understands good branding and helps break it down to something we can all understand. Steve is the president of McKee Wallwork + Company (MWC), Advertising Age’s 2015 Southwest U.S. Small Agency of the Year. Rank #14: 236: Mark Coleman- Make Peace with Your Mind

Podcast cover
Read more

We usually refer to the cost of doing business as time and money spent. As creative warriors, since it is often our own talent and skills that we derive our income from, we need to consider the other costs of doing business. The real costs of business, such as the energy spent, time wasted, and the ways we hold ourselves back dealing with our own conflicted thoughts.

I ask you to consider what might be the business benefits for you in making peace with your mind. Today we have the amazing Mark Coleman joining us to discuss the negative impacts of self criticism, and how thinking positively can better our health, our attitudes, and our overall mindfulness.

Mark Coleman is the author of “Make Peace With Your Mind” and “Awake in the Wild”. He is also the founder of the Mindfulness Institute and holds an MA in clinical psychology. Mark has guided students on 5 continents as a corporate consultant, counselor, meditation teacher, and wilderness guide. Mark also lives in beautiful Northern California.

WARRIOR of Inner Zen

“Own who you are, live in your own skin, and take responsibility for who you are and stop trying to copy and mimic and pretend to be like somebody else.” - Mark Coleman

Highlights -
  • Negative self criticism doesn’t actually make us better, it only makes us feel worse
  • Inner discrimination is a much healthier self assessment where we can learn and grow
  • If you incline your attention towards what’s possible and positive, than you will become a more positive person with a healthier attitude
  • Mindfulness is awareness. It gives us the ability to know ourselves
  • We can train our attention through mindfulness to cultivate awareness
  • Positive thoughts are better for your health, stress levels, tension, and memory
  • Our inner critic served us when we were young, but as we get older, it becomes an outdated system

Rank #16: 349: Phil Jones- Exactly What To Say

Podcast cover
Read more

If you have two identical companies, selling identical products, with the same marketing strategies, chances are one of them will make it and the other won’t. Why is that? The power of words.

How we say things can have a huge impact that can either make or break us. If you enter into a conversation with confidence, knowledge, and a way to get people to trust you you’ll have far more success than someone who just tries to tell people what they think they want to hear.

We need to give words more credit. Take the time to really think about what you are going to say, and how you are going to say it. This doesn’t mean you should sound like you’re reading a script, but you should know what you are going to say so well you can adjust things in the moment. Analyze what you are saying to customers, and make sure you’re getting the strongest message you can to them.

On this episode of Creative Warriors we are joined by the incredible Phil Jones. Phil has studied the psychology of words in sales, and what sets people apart from being just another salesman.

Download this episode today to hear insights on how you can start making stronger word choices to get the success in sales you deserve.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY WARRIOR

“The slightest change of words can greatly alter one’s impression.” -Phil Jones

Highlights -
  • Progress happens from inspiration not replication.
  • Move people with your words.
  • Genuinely care and be in the moment.
  • Be confident in what you are saying.
  • Know your script so well you can go off script.
  • The principles never change, but the application will.
  • Starting with, “This may not be for you, but…” is very powerful.
  • Let people own their own decisions.
  • Try to use the word “investment” instead of “cost”.
  • Earn the right to make a recommendation.

Podcast cover

Ask almost anyone what their greatest obstacle is, and they are likely to say themselves. What we can learn, and you can learn to do so in this episode, is to get to yes within yourself. To let go of the inner battle, look at your most worthy opponent in the eye, which is yourself, and negotiate a win/win deal.

William Ury is the co-founder of Harvard’s program on negotiation. He’s one of the world’s best known and most influential experts on negotiation. He is the co-author of “Getting to Yes,” the best selling negotiation book in the world, and has taught negotiations to tens of thousands of people around the world. He has served as a mediator in conflicts ranging from boardroom battles, to labor strikes, and from family feuds, to civil wars. His newest book is “Getting to Yes with Yourself and Other Worthy Opponents.”

Highlights -

  • If you’re afraid of something it might be a clue that that’s the direction you need to go in
  • The most difficult person we have to deal with in negotiations is ourselves
  • It is our human natural tendency to act without thinking
  • Anger, fear, and distress can get in our way when it comes to negotiation
  • Figure out how to move out of the survival modality to the relational modality in order to be able to reach an agreement
  • Relational modality is where we’re more open; where we engage
  • Ask yourself what you really want out of a negotiation, on a deeper level
  • Negotiating is an inside job that allows you do a great job on the outside
  • If you can get to yes with yourself, if you can learn to influence your own natural reactions, then that allows you to reach yes with others
  • We need to combine both participation and observation
  • Einstein said, the most important question anyone of us has to answer is, is the universe friendly?
  • They key is to go inside ourselves and answer the question positively, that yes, the universe is positive

Rank #18: 507: Chris Griffiths - A Systematic Process to Creativity

Podcast cover
Read more

As most of you know, I’m a true systems guy. But not many people think of creativity as something that can have a system. Most assume that it’s something that “hits” you out of nowhere instead of something that you can plan out. However, there is a way to develop a process for creative problem-solving.

Making creativity a systematic part of your life and business is invaluable. After all, what the world really needs is creativity leaders, not thought leaders. The people who truly change businesses and the world are disruptors- they create new dots that connect to the dots that already exist. Once you combine your analytical mind and your creative mind, you’ll be able to see new ideas through to fruition.

To dive deeper into the idea of creating systems for creativity, I’ve brought on founder and CEO of OpenGenius, Chris Griffiths. He has helped thousands of people worldwide drive business growth using highly practical innovation processes, including teams and individuals from Fortune 500 and FTSE 100 companies, the United Nations, Governments, the European Commission and Nobel Laureates. He is a pioneer in combining creative thinking strategies with technology to enhance productivity and is behind the iMindMap and DropTask apps, now utilized by over two million people worldwide.

To learn how to create a step-by-step process for creative problem-solving in your life, download this episode now.

THE INNOVATION WARRIOR

“Creativity isn’t learned. It’s unlearned over time.” - Chris Griffiths

Highlights -
  • “Winners fail more than loser try.”
  • The first mistake is viewing creativity as an event. Innovation is a process.
  • We lose creativity as we age. However, people become more creative between 40 and 50.
  • The Three Blocks to Creative Thinking: selective thinking, reactive thinking, and assumptive thinking.
  • Four Steps of Creative Problem-Solving Decisions: understanding, ideation, analysis, and direction.
  • You have to have a commitment to your ideas. Believing in your ideas will help you see them through to fruition.

556: Amanda Slavin- The Seven Levels of Engagement

Podcast cover
Read more

Has social media ruined the meaning of engagement? Actually, social media is just the base camp for the type of engagement that is currently available to us. There is nothing wrong with getting ‘likes’ but humans are desperate for more. What do we do with these ‘likes.’ How do we build from there? Whether it’s taking care of employees or courting customers it's time we start striving for a higher level of connection.

Whether it’s taking care of employees or courting customers it is imperative to always strive for a higher level of connection. You’ve heard me say it before-  in today’s world the businesses that are the most successful are the ones who consider seeing people as more valuable than serving them. The more personalized the approach, the deeper the engagement. We have the access and technology to deepen engagement, now we need to learn how to use the tools rather than let the tools use us.

To dive deeper into fostering impactful engagement with both customers and employees, I’ve brought on best-selling author and marketing strategist Amanda Slavin.

As Founder & CEO of CatalystCreativ, Amanda has counseled global, national, and local organizations in planning for and achieving their branding goals. Through projects with Coca Cola, The Raiders, Google, WeWork, NPR, The Nature Conservancy, and the New York City Ballet, Amanda was featured as a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree in Advertising and Marketing. She’s spoken at SXSW, TED, Summit Series, and INBOUND about how The Seventh Level Engagement Framework is the future of meaningful, personal connections.

To unlock your seventh level of engagement, download this episode now.

 THE WARRIOR OF RESILIENCE

“Create a pathway for people to stay committed.” -Amanda Slavin

Highlights -
    • Social Media has muddled the meaning of engagement. It has impacted our understanding of who we really are as people.
    • Engagement is the antidote to apathy.
    • Companies can really inspire, they just need the right tools and infrastructure to do so.
    • Employees should be viewed as internal customers and treated the same way external customers.
    • The Seventh Level statement will serve as your starting point and personal north star.
    • The biggest problem in branding is the disconnect between what they think they are saying and how they are really being seen.
    • Once the Seventh Level of engagement is reached, it is important to really take care of customers beyond a loyalty program. How can this engagement be the most personal?

554: Jeff Fromm - Turn Your Purpose into a Competitive Advantage

Podcast cover
Read more

Most entrepreneurs understand how important it is to have a clear purpose. Unfortunately for many, “purpose” has become more of a marketing tool and has lost its authenticity. There are plenty of brands, however, that have been able to keep their purpose clear, instilling pride from their consumers, and, as a result, have a competitive advantage to those that don’t.

It’s important to understand the different ways having a purpose can drive a brand beyond being a marketing scheme. Consumers want to do business with companies that align with their personal values. There is nothing wrong with making a profit. The profit’s purpose is to help deliver the brand’s purpose in all facets of business.

To dig into this idea further, I’ve brought on author, consultant, and professional speaker, Jeff Fromm. Jeff has keynoted more than 500 events all over the world and helps his consulting clients - including Amazon, Dairy Queen, Wingstop, and Gallo -- on leveraging consumer trends, technology and innovation. He is the co-author of three youth marketing books, dozens of research reports, and hundreds of Forbes columns.

To learn how to navigate your brand’s purpose and build a competitive advantage, download this episode now.

552: David Meerman Scott - Connect With Your Fanocracy

Podcast cover

Most of us have something that we’re really into. Maybe it’s a band, a sports team, or Harry Potter. Whatever it is, most of us can say we’re big fans of something and that we enjoy sharing in that community. But we often think of fandom as a surface level experience. In reality what we’re experiencing is a human bonding through a shared experience. And these days fandom can be found in so much more than sports or entertainment.

Customers are hungry for human connection. Because of this, businesses and entrepreneurs are going back to the basics of building, connecting with, and honoring their fans. Some might even believe that nowadays cultivating relationships with their fans is more important than making sales.

To dive deeper into the power of fandom I welcome back to the show my buddy, David Scott Meerman.

David is an internationally acclaimed marketing strategist, entrepreneur, advisor to emerging companies, VC strategic partner, and bestselling author of 10 books. He is best known for his book “The New Rules of Marketing and PR,” a perennial seller for over a decade. His latest book “Fanocracy: Turning Customers into Fans and Fans into Customers” is available now.

Download this episode now to discover how your business can nurture its truest fans.

    • Getting into physical proximity with your customers can help connect with them and build relationships.
    • Selfies can help build emotional bonds by creating virtual proximity with developing fans.
    • Let go of your creations. Give your fans the freedom to do what they will with your work.
    • Passion is infectious. People want to work with passionate people.
    • If you want to build fans, letting people talk about you is the first step.
    • Be smart with your long term model. The idea is to develop sustainability through a passionate fan base.

550: Shirzad Chamine- Increase Your Positivity in the New Year

Podcast cover
Read more

We’re going to change things up on Creative Warriors. This week I’m thrilled to welcome a guest who’s 6-week course I will be taking in the new year. Once I’ve finished the course, I plan on having this guest back to discuss my results. Sure, it’s a little intimidating to be doing this so publicly. But my goal is to show you all how important this work can be. What is it I’m going to be working on? It’s called “Positive Intelligence,” or “PQ” for short, and I’m hoping this year we can all raise our PQ together.

Positive Intelligence is the measure of your mental fitness, or your positivity quotient. It is how quickly you can recover from negative reactions to challenges and turn them into positive challenges. Understanding one’s PQ is also understanding what your “saboteur” is and how or why your personal mindset can be overtaken by negative things. When we work on our PQ we can begin to live, work, and respond from a place of joy, peace, love, and inspiration.

To dive deeper into understanding the power of positivity, I’ve brought on Stanford lecturer and CEO coach, Shirzad Chamine.

Shirzad is the author of the New York Times bestselling Positive Intelligence. He has been the CEO of the largest coach training organization in the world, having trained faculty at Stanford and Yale business schools. His background includes PhD studies in neuroscience in addition to a BA in psychology, an MS in electrical engineering, and an MBA from Stanford.

Get ready to upgrade your life by increasing you positivity by downloading this episode now.

THE WARRIOR OF EMPATHY

“The snowman will melt under the light of your awareness” -Shirzad Chamine” -Shirzad Chamine

Highlights -
    • There are 10 Saboteurs. By having an understanding of your personal saboteurs, you can begin to break free from them.
    • All Saboteurs try to control you through fear. The Sage in you is all about love.
    • Saboteurs will also create your great strength and greatest sensitivity.
    • There are 5 Powers of The Sage: empathize, explore, innovate, navigate, and activate.
    • Absolutely every circumstance can be turned into a gift and opportunity.
    • The self-command muscle is what we need to strengthen to activate the PQ part of our brain.

548: Anthony Kennada - Understanding Category Creation

Podcast cover
Read more

I’ll admit that the idea of creating a brand new category is intimidating. Not many of us feel like we might be the next Steve Jobs. But creating categories is not only more approachable than we think, but often right in front of us. All it takes is a simple re-framing of how you position your business as a specific human-focused solution.

When broken down, creating a new category can be the answer to some very simple problems. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel, you only have to position yourself in a way that speaks to a group. Once the validation comes then you can explore the world- or category- you’re creating. If you’re not receiving a response, you’re probably not creating a category. But if it’s working, the category will organically unfold.

To help us better understand the process of creating categories, I’ve brought on marketing expert Anthony Kennada. Anthony is the CMO of Front, and was the founding Chief Marketing Officer at Gainsight. He is passionate about creating new market categories, scaling thought leadership programs, and customer-centric marketing. His book Category Creation: How to Build a Brand that Customers, Employees, and Investors Will Love details category creation strategies from HubSpot, Salesforce, Gainsight and other iconic brands.

To learn how to become a strategic and human-focused category creator download this episode.

THE WARRIOR OF FAITH

“At the heart of category creation is a person.” -Anthony Kennada

Highlights -
    • Category creation is the inverse of disruption.
    • At the heart of category creation is a person.
    • All business should be thought of as B2H: Business to Human.
    • You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Category creation is about re-positioning your business into something that speaks clearly to a specific group.
    • Once your category is created you have to let it unfold and let your audience respond.
    • All businesses are on their way to irrelevance.
    • Brick and Mortar businesses are finding ways to thrive through the human experience that are then driving online sales.

546: Charlie Gilkey- How To Go From Idea to Done

Podcast cover
Read more

I consider myself a productive person. I have hard systems, apps, and even color-coding that I use to make sure that I complete projects and tasks in a timely fashion and still have time for myself.  However, it’s a topic that I love digging into. Who doesn’t want to find new ways to streamline their productivity? We Creative Warriors often have a lot of projects we are juggling and in an industry that is becoming more tech-reliant, it is important to know when things are helping, and when they are slowing us down.

You’ve heard me talk about the soul’s gatekeepers which keeps us from doing the things that are the most personal to us. Often the projects that matter the most are the things we find ourselves putting off. How do we dig into those things that we fear? How do we stay on task with projects that don’t have a hard deadline? It can be daunting to begin a project near to your heart, and even more daunting to finish it.

To dive deeper into finding your productivity, I’ve brought on productivity master, Charlie Gilkey. He is the Founder of Productive Flourishing, author of the books Start Finishing and The Small Business Lifecycle, and host of the Productive Flourishing podcast. Prior to starting Productive Flourishing, Charlie was a Joint Force Military Logistics Coordinator while simultaneously pursuing a PhD in Philosophy.

To learn how to start finishing your big idea, download this episode now.

THE WARRIOR OF COURAGE

“We have to be functionally delusional to be the type of creative souls that we most want to be in the world.” -Charlie Gilkey

Highlights -
    • Often the things that matter most of us, are the things we procrastinate most.
    • Find your Success Pack: a group of people who are the “yay-sayers”, the guides, and support that help you get clarity and the beneficiaries of and for your work.
    • Track where you spend your time.
    • The 5-Project Rule: work on no more than 5 active projects per time perspective.
    • Grieving, recovering from injury, heartbreak, fitness all count as personal projects.
    • Deadlines vs. Capacity: at a certain point it doesn’t matter what the deadline is if you don’t have the capacity to schedule the focus blocks you need.
    • Understand the “no-win” solutions and get them out of your mind.

542: Joseph Michelli- Lessons Learned from Airbnb

As entrepreneurs, we can always learn from studying companies that really understand what they’re doing. From branding to customer service, there is always more to learn. I especially get excited when I get the opportunity to unpack a brand with someone who understands it intimately.

Airbnb is a brand that I’ve come to truly respect. I’ll be completely honest- for the longest time, I was not a fan of the brand. But I’ve come to understand and appreciate why they are a brand that is incredibly respected in the hospitality and technology-driven space. Airbnb is a leader in making their customers feel like they are part of a community. They understand how to make people feel like they belong.

To dive deeper into harnessing the power of community, I’ve brought back a friend of mine, Joseph Michelli. Joseph is an internationally sought after speaker, author, and organizational consultant. His insights encourage leaders and frontline workers to grow and invest passionately in all aspects of their lives. Joseph was named as one of the Top 10 thought leaders in Customer Service by Global Gurus.

We can alter the way we interact with our customers making them feel more appreciated, recognized, and understood. Human connections are vital to our success in life and business. It’s the small touches and the kind things we do that make people come back for more. The way people feel about you and the experience you provided could be the difference between success and failure.

To dive deeper into harnessing the power of the human connection and the power of small changes, I’ve brought on renowned keynote speaker, trainer, and author Laurie Guest.

Laurie is an entrepreneur, author, and motivational keynote speaker. She graduated from Palmer College, is a member of the National Speakers Association and is a Certified Speaking Professional. She is the owner of Guest Enterprises, a speaking and training firm founded in 1997. The firm focuses on customer service and staff development topics presented in an entertaining format.

537: David Horsager – The Strategy of Trust

Podcast cover
Read more

As Creative Warriors, we’re always looking for ways to expand our business and build new relationships. We often look for things outside of ourselves that will help us gain a strategic advantage. What if the edge we need is something we currently possess? A gift and an ability that is within us already.

There is no master formula or a step-by-step guide to success. But there are character traits and habits that will cultivate an environment that will lead to success. A characteristic that is vital to your success in business and personal relationships is trust. If you want to set yourself apart from your peers and the competition, then you must have trust.

To dive deeper into the subject of trust, I’ve brought on author, speaker, and business consultant David Horsager. He is the leading expert on trust, and the impact it has on everything from individuals and organizations to global governments. David helps leaders and organizations become the most trusted in their industry through research, speaking, consulting, and human capital development. His work was featured in prominent publications like Fast Company, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.
