It's like drivetime FM DJs - for mythology!

By DrewVK - May 03 2018

Describing MythTake is tough. If I say "it's two professors of classics discussing little-known works of Greek mythology," that, while true, won't come close to gripping the fun that they bring. Alison and Darrin remind me of a pair of drivetime DJs on the radio, where one is trying to tell the story, and the other is riffing humorous interjections. It works. You'll laugh out loud and learn a ton about stories you thought you already knew. Get into this podcast now, because it's worth it.

Information I've wanted awhile!

I'm listening to the episodes about the Gods who have planets named for them. I've known that the Roman gods originally were different from the Greek Gods, and this podcast discusses that. Very entertaining!

Rank #2: Episode 18: Homeric Hymn to Dionysus

We celebrate the new year with the story of a new arrival: Dionysus. The newest god of the Greek pantheon, Dionysus was imported into early Greek culture, probably from the east. The Hymn describes a young, strong and beautiful god who is abducted by pirates for ransom. Long story short, it doesn't quite work out for the pirates and yet again we see the after effects of a divine encounter.

Passages: Homeric Hymn to Dionysus (Hymn 7).
