Plant Based Keto Foods That Detoxify The Body, Negative Health Effects of The Vegan Diet – Ben Azadi: KKP 005

In this episode, we’ll talk about the vegetarian and ketogenic diet, Dr. Will Cole’s book, Ketotarian, plant based foods that help detoxify, and so much more. Here is an overview of this episode: Plant based foods ketogenic foods that help detoxify the body The negative health effects of a longterm vegan diet Why the conventional medical system is rigged And so much more  Get my FREE Keto Kickstart Guide: www.ketokickstartguide.com YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/ketokamp [3:03] My story with vegetarian and ketogenic diet. I was a strict vegan for a year and a half about 6 years ago. I got really good results from being vegan. I felt better. My skin and sleep are better as well as my workout. During the 4th or 5th month, I hit the vegan wall. I felt really sore. Hormones got wonky. My sex drive was diminishing. My skin was getting skin issues. I studied Paul Chek, one of the considerable godfathers of holistic health, and learned about the dangers of the vegan diet. Blood works were done and I decided to explore the ketogenic diet. After a considerable amount of time on ketogenic diet, my health, in general, was good again. [6:10] Vegan diet is great. However, there are a lot of issues in the long run. From the book Vegetarianism Explained: Making an Informed Decision by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride: If you look at every corner of the planet, healthy indigenous people eat a mixture of plants and animal foods. It is the animal food that was actually the most valued. The human digestive system in its structure is similar to the gut of predatory animals. We have 1 stomach without microbes in it. Our human stomach is decide to produce acids and pepsin which breaks down meat, fish, and yolks in eggs. Best building blocks to feed our cellular regeneration process comes from high quality animal foods. The brain is a fatty organ. In fact, it is composed of 60% fat and it requires fat and protein. If we are not getting that from high quality animal foods, we are actually starving our brain. [7:48] Going vegan for a short period of time is a good idea As we learned from Keto Kamp Podcast Episode 1 with Dr. Pompa regarding hormone optimization and diet variation, the real purpose of plants are cleansers. Vegan diet is good and helpful in keeping our inside bodies clean. Cleaner body is always better than a toxic one. When the body was finished cleansing, you have to start feeding it with animal food. If not, the body will starve and deteriorate. Vegan diet should be seen as a form of fasting. They do not feed the body properly. [9:00] Ketotarian, Dr. Cole’s book Ketogenic diet is a great diet because it marries the best of low-carb diet and the plant-based way being while avoiding the common pitfalls with both diets. “The ketotarian way of eating brings together healthy plant-based fat, clean protein and rich, vibrant colors of nutrient-dense vegetables.” Green leafy vegetables go hand-in-hand with ketosis. If you are a vegan, take in some algae-based omega 3s and eggs. [11:02] Ways to detox the body Some of the powerful antioxidants are sea vegetables like chlorella, herbs, parsley and cilantro. Onion, broccoli, mushrooms, cabbage, cauliflower are all great in supporting detox pathways. Cole’s book, The Inflammation Spectrum, will help you discover how inflammation is at the core of most common health woes. Join my Keto Kamp Inner Circle to get my Vegan-Keto Meal Plan. [13:21] Rigged System of the Conventional Medicine The problem with most conventional doctors is that they’ve been trained with so masterfully to diagnose disease and match it to a dedication. As Dr. Cole previously said, “You wouldn’t go to your mechanic to ask for a gardening advice. You wouldn’t go to your doctor and ask them for nutrition advice. They are just not trained on that and it is the sad truth.” If you have a doctor or a medical practitioner who’s asking you basic questions and not digging into your history, consider that a red flag. If your doctor doesn’t listen to you, find another doctor. Email me at ben@ketokamp.com for some help and advice. AND MUCH MORE! Dr. Jason Fung - Diabetes, Obesity, Intermittent Fasting, & The Calories Debacle – KKP 24

Today’s episode is very close to my heart as I have a personal experience with diabetes. My father developed Type II Diabetes and I have watched him struggle with this disease. It was a very difficult time of my life. Ever since he passed away five years ago, I set out and study diabetes and why my fathers doctors’ advice did not work. I came across the book The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss by Dr. Jason Fung where he explains how to use intermittent fasting to break the cycle of insulin resistance and reach a healthy weight—for good. The information that I now know would’ve saved my father’s life. Which is why I fully support Dr. Jason Fung’s, today’s guest, on his mission to spread as much information on diabetes and intermittent fasting to help as many people as possible. Dr. Jason Fung is a Canadian nephrologist. He’s a world-leading expert on intermittent fasting and low carb, especially for treating people with type 2 diabetes. He has written three best-selling health books and he co-founded the Intensive Dietary Management Program. Dr. Fung works with Team Diet Doctor where they make it simple for people to understand and implement intermittent fasting, to improve their health. In this episode, we break down every single thing you need to know about calories, obesity, diabetes and intermittent fasting. Sit tight and enjoy! This episode is sponsored by the world's healthiest coffee beans, Purity coffee. Get your beans delivered to your door: http://www.ketokampcoffee.com In this episode, you'll discover: [00:17] How Dr. Fung got into the health space, particularly nephrology As a Math and Science person, Dr. Fung initially thought he would pursue the field of engineering. He then decided that being a physician was more fitted to his style. After years in the university, he figured that he was also invested in doing research. As a physician, he can help people and do some research at the same time. In choosing a specialty, Dr. Fung felt that Nephrology suited his personality better. Nephrology is a complex specialty which is sort of a thinking-person speciality unlike cardiology which is more of an action specialty (i.e surgery) [4:13] Diabetes, Obesity and Intermittent Fasting The most common and important cause of kidney disease is Type II Diabetes which is closely related to weight gain and obesity. Treating kidney diseases with medications is the least effective way to treat people. You have to look at the root cause of the disease in order to be successful in treating it. Which is why, for Dr. Fung, the real question was “what causes weight gain?” Nutrition is not considered part of the medical specialty which explains why doctors depend on medications to treat certain illnesses. Second question: What are you gonna do about it? Obesity was not existent during the 1970s. Now, 70% of Americans are obese. Intermittent Fasting: People suffering with Type II Diabetes for 20+ years immediately felt better by intermittent fasting. Fasting is less fun that eating pizza and doughnuts. Fasting is tough work. It is important to give people undergoing intermittent fasting the support and education they need. [12:30] The Calorie Debacle Coca-Cola created a group called the Global Energy Balance Network to keep people focused on calories. They wanted people to think that 100 calories of broccoli is equivalent to 100 calories of Coca-Cola which is completely wrong. If you think that if you can eat cookies, drink coke and exercise then, you’ll be healthy, you are wrong. But, Coca-Cola wants you to think that this is right. Hormones control hunger, telling our body when to eat and when to stop. Different calorie sources elicit different hormonal responses. Diet and exercise are totally different things. Diet is what you eat. It affects the liver mostly. Exercise is mostly about skeletal muscles. Calorie is not a physiologic term. There’s no calorie-receptors in our body. We think that excessive intake of calories causes obesity. We think that this is a caloric imbalance. Too many ‘calories in’ compared to too few ‘calories out’ leads to weight gain. This Calorie Balance model of obesity has been drilled into us since childhood. Read more about the Calorie Debacle here. [18:40] Intermittent Fasting as a reasonable alternative to treat patients Ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting are not as famous as low-carb diet. Jason Fung received a lot of backlash when he started to introduce intermittent fasting to his patients. Because of IF, patients were getting better. At the end of the day, you can’t ignore that. Other doctors started to notice the success of IF. Through his book, The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss, Dr. Fung explains how to use intermittent fasting to break the cycle of insulin resistance and reach a healthy weight—for good. [25:55] Why the common treatments for type 2 diabetes seem to make things worse Type II Diabetes is a reversible disease. The standard treatment of Type II diabetes focused on getting the sugar down by medications. Doctors should’ve focused on the patient’s diet to help them lose weight because if you lose weight, your diabetes gets better. Jason Fung forever changed the way we think about obesity and he wanted to do the same for type 2 diabetes through his book The Diabetes Code: Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally He explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease. People cannot just make a decision to burn more fat calories, or to feel less hungry. These are physiological issues and must be addressed via physiology. [31:49] Dr. Fung’s Intensive Dietary Management (IDM) program The IDM program helps people reach their health goals through intermittent fasting and simple-to-follow time-restricted eating strategies. It’s a structured digital lifestyle intervention developed by Megan Ramos and Dr. Jason Fung that provides you with all the education and support you need to succeed. At least several thousands of people have gone through the Intensive Dietary Management program and the number keeps adding up.   For 2019 years, people have already been talking about fasting and they don’t talk about it as a terrible thing. Fung clarifies that he didn’t invent intermittent fasting. He just started talking about it because it seems logical to him. [37:14] Guinness World Record on the Longest Recorded Fast In the 1971 edition of The Guinness Book of Records, Barbieri's 382-day fast was recognized as the longest recorded. The most important thing is that people feel well throughout their entire fasting. For 365 days a year, 3 meals a day, you are taking a total of 1000 meals per year. If you do a 7-day fast, you’re going to miss 21 of that 1000. How is that a big deal? AND MUCH MORE! Megan Ramos, Strategies For Intermittent Fasting, How to Break a Weight Loss Plateau, Should Women Fast Differently Than Men? - KKP 103

Today, I am lucky to have here with me, the CEO and co-founder of the Fasting Method Program, clinical educator, and researcher, Megan Ramos. Megan’s major role in the The Fasting Method is to facilitate the patient’s education on the Fasting Method dietary principles and counsel them on their fasting regimens. Megan, along with her colleague Dr. Jason Fung, believe that both what you eat and when you eat matter. The Fasting Method utilizes therapeutic fasting and time restricted eating protocols with their patients to help them reverse their type 2 diabetes and achieve sustainable weight-loss. They encourage their patients to eat real foods and adopt a low-carb lifestyle in addition to the fasting. Megan was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NALFD) at age 12, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) at age 14, and type 2 diabetes (DMII) at age 27. She reversed these metabolic conditions and achieve an 86-pound weight loss by incorporating intermittent fasting with a low carb diet, and is now passionate about helping others do the same. Megan lives in Toronto, Canada. She is a director of the nonprofit organization Public Health Collaboration Canada (PHC Canada), works on the editorial board of the Journal of Insulin Resistance and Team Diet Doctor. In this episode, Megan Ramos opens the show explaining her various health problems growing up. She started working with Dr. Jason Fung at the age of fifteen, and together, they realized the importance of fasting. Plus, Megan explains how essential it is to be proactive when it comes to your health. Not many people understand that we need to get to the root cause of a disease rather than treating the symptoms. Stay tuned as Megan gives fasting advice, and she reveals the most surprising benefits the practice can offer. 🎓Want to become a keto and fasting pro? Join the BRAND NEW Keto Kamp Academy today: http://www.ketokampacademy.com (FREE 7 DAY TRIAL) [05:00] About Megan Ramos Megan comes from a horrendous gene pool. She was diagnosed with fatty liver disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and type 2 diabetes. She was skinny, but all of her weight was fat. Her doctor couldn’t tell why she had diseases of obesity. Megan didn’t stress about it. “Your genes aren’t your destiny.” –Megan Ramos Megan started working with Dr. Jason Fung at age 15. Her research patients were trying to live life right; however, they were just gaining more weight. Megan also was gaining weight despite hiring a nutritionist and personal trainer. When Dr. Fung would introduce fasting to his patients, they would feel better. It was the missing piece of the puzzle. Megan started fasting, and it finally all made sense. [13:10] Symptoms for Kidney Dysfunction Patients who are leaking a lot of protein in their urine, yet they don’t have high blood pressure are most likely suffering from kidney dysfunction. Protein in the urine usually means something diabetic is going on. “In North America, you have insulin resistance until proven otherwise.” –Megan Ramos Even though your labs say normal, a conventional doctor will not be able to read the labs as an expert would. [17:30] Being Proactive Rather Than Reactive Megan wants to help patients be proactive. The healthcare system is broken beyond repair. When Megan and Jason first started talking about fasting, people thought they were lunatics. However, the benefits of fasting have been well known for hundreds of years. Fasting makes a significant change in the lives of their patients. [23:40] Fasting the Wrong Way Fasting the wrong way will result in electrolyte imbalance. Most people are petrified of salt. However, salt is critical to our survival and wellbeing. Insulin levels will be high when you first start fasting. Eventually, the insulin levels will tank. It could cause diarrhea if not rehydrating correctly. Megan does consultations online. Most of the time, the person’s issues are resolved by salt or magnesium. Pickle juice and bone broth will also assist with hydration. Sometimes people carb up before a fast. It will wreak havoc on your body and mind. Plus, you won’t get autophagy as efficiently. Do a fast through your ketogenic diet. Fasting shouldn’t make you feel bad; it should make you feel more energetic. [31:40] The Most Surprising Benefit of Fasting Megan loves when older women get their libido back. The most surprising thing is anti-aging in women. Women who have gone grey are now getting their hair color again. A 76-year-old woman got her regular menstrual period back for two years. [33:50] Should Women Practice Fasting Differently Than Men? Women need to be more diligent with sodium. Salt is critical in middle-aged women. Not necessarily for feeling good, but for making sure that weight loss is happening at an efficient rate. Women need to fast more than men to get the same results. A 24 hour fast will give women tremendous results. They will lose water weight and body fat. Women are more compliant doing a three day fast. Once they wake up on the second day, there should be no hunger. Staying in a fast can be more manageable for women. [37:55] Advice for Someone Who is Getting Stuck at a Certain Weight Make sure there are no problem foods or snacking in the diet. People on keto will eat a lot of nuts and cheese outside of eating windows. What do your eating days look like? Add fat and protein to your meals to make them more satiating. That alone can break a person through a plateau. [42:55] Megan’s Favorite Benefit of Fasting Megan gets an insane amount of energy while fasting. She gets to train doctors and speak at medical conferences. After a trip, Megan does a fat fast. It gives her an energy reboot and mental clarity. AND MUCH MORE! Dr Benjamin Bikman, Foods That Help Lower Insulin, Cortisol Effects on The Body, Fasted Exercise: KKP 54

Today we have Dr. Benjamin Bikman on the Keto Kamp Podcast. Dr. Bikman is a biomedical scientist, professor, and expert on insulin resistance. Dr. Benjamin Bikman studies diabetes and obesity, and much of what he focuses on is a seemingly obscure condition called insulin resistance. But it’s, in fact, not very obscure at all. Half of all adults in the U.S. have insulin resistance. That means you could have it too, and you don’t know it. What is insulin resistance? Why did Dr. Benjamin Bikman devote his career to studying something like this? Well, insulin resistance is essentially two things. First of all, some cells in your body aren’t responding very well to the hormone insulin. Second, you have more insulin than you did before, a condition called hyperinsulinemia. Insulin resistance is at the root of virtually every chronic disease. If we go through the chronic diseases that are killing us today, things like Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, and certain cancers, what they all have in common is insulin resistance. To varying degrees, insulin resistance is either causing the problem or making it worse. In this episode, Dr. Bikman and I talk about what inspired him to dedicate his life to researching insulin resistance. First, Dr. Bikman reveals the correlation between air pollution and diabetes. Plus, Dr. Bikman explains how insulin is related to almost every single chronic disease out there. He also describes what type of things you should be eating if your glucose levels are high and what to eat if you are metabolically flexible. Tune in! Sign up for the Keto Kamp Academy [08:45] How Dr. Bikman Chose His Profession Bikman realized he has always been fascinated with how the body was affected by exercise. One day, he saw an article in the newspaper about how fat cells secrete hormones. At the time, we only knew about one protein that was emitted from fat cells. Bikman’s graduate thesis focused on obesity. Then, Dr. Bikman did post-doctoral work on insulin resistance. Currently, he has his own lab at BYU and continues to focus on insulin. “I get paid to be curious.” [12:50] The Correlation Between Air Pollution and Diabetes The correlational evidence is so keen; it warrants further scrutiny. You can take the smallest particles from diesel exhaust – and one week of rodents inhaling the particles - they’re insulin resistance has doubled. It puts in perspective the heavily industrialized countries like India and China. Plus, they are the countries with the most diabetics. Might part of it be the profound air pollution? Runners should get a mask filter if they are living in a heavily polluted area. [18:45] Focusing on Insulin    Bikman focuses on insulin because the more he learns about obesity, the more the finger points at insulin. Once Dr. Bikman started teaching a class about disease, the more he realized how insulin is part of almost every chronic disease. Inadvertently, he created an insulin resistance class. After every disease topic, Dr. Bikman puts in a lesson about insulin resistance at the end – it’s involved in almost every disease. Lifestyle is a tremendous part of fixing the problem of insulin. [24:10] The Ongoing Focus on Glucose Historically, the most common manifestation of diabetes is a high level of glucose. The kidney cannot absorb high levels of glucose, so the person has to urinate a lot. This common feature of diabetes is a consequence of high glucose levels. Today, we know that insulin starts to change decades before the glucose begins to change. By continuing to focus on the glucose, we are focusing on a symptom instead of a root cause. As the person becomes insulin resistance, it’s enough to keep the glucose in check. Eventually, a person stops producing insulin and becomes deficient. Now, the glucose is no longer in check. By focusing on glucose, it’s a wonderful way to sell a lot of insulin. [27:15] What to Eat if You Are Struggling With Glucose Levels   There is an incredibly rational strategy to deal with glucose levels – cutting carbs. [32:55] What to Eat When You Are Metabolically Flexible A healthy person can push the glucose out into their cells very well. In a fasted state, they will use fat for fuel. Some people are trying to burn glucose all the time. When you go to a fasted state, they do not make the dramatic shift – they stay in sugar burning mode. Imagine a semi-truck with fuel hooked on to its back. There’s the massive fuel tank, and the small tank tucked into the cab. The small tank is being used as its fuel source; every few hours, they stop and fill it up. However, it carries around a massive reservoir of fuel that it can never use. We have a finite amount of stored glucose – this is a tank that some people only tap into. If we can allow a metabolic shift, we can tap into the fat tank. If we are burning sugar, it’s because insulin is high. If someone is insulin resistance, it can take 48 hours of fasting to get those levels down. Metabolic flexibility is key! [40:00] Fasting With High Glucose Levels People can sense a slight dip in glucose levels during fasting. They will feel a sense of anxiety, panic, and hunger. Hunger comes in different stages. Some people can fast for a whole year because they are so fat. They have enough energy stored as fat. The difference between fasting and starving is fat mass. The moment the person has run out of fatty tissue – the body will start cutting muscle. In our society, people do not really get to the starvation point. [44:10] About Excess Protein In 2016, Dr. Bikman gave his first talk about low carbs. Within that year, he was struck with how many people were drinking oil. They were drinking oil because they thought protein would kick them out of ketosis. Protein and carbohydrates together are a different story. In nature, this doesn’t happen unless in dairy. The only time humans drink milk is when they are growing. Bikman says protein has been unnecessarily scrutinized. [47:45] Exercising in a Fasted State Some people feel nauseous if they do not have food in their guts. Dr. Bikman exercises in the fasted state because he wants to feel light and lean. He doesn’t want to make working out harder than it actually is. Also, he wants to have a higher state of fat burning. What you eat boards the bus before what you have stored. Dr. Bikman wants to be using what he has saved. [49:50] Cortisol Hijacks Insulin Cortisol tells the body where to store fat. Bikman is unaware of a hormone that can do what insulin can. Cortisol results in a shift – it will promote the movement of fat. It’s an insulin antagonist. Cortisol wants to increase glucose levels to fuel an immune response. [53:15] Calories In, Calories Out Imagine people are attending an extravagant buffet with the most famous chefs. You want to come as hungry as possible. What are you going to do? You are going to skip meals and exercise hard. What are the two things we tell people to lose weight? Eat less and exercise more. Hunger will always win. Do not try and live in a caloric deficit. We are complicated metabolic machines. AND MUCH MORE! Dr Mindy Pelz, Women's Complete Guide to the Keto Diet & Intermittent Fasting :KKP 125

Today I interview someone crazy passionate about helping families stay healthy for life, Dr. Mindy Pelz. Her best-selling book, The Reset Factor, was released in 2015, giving people all over the world access to a clear step-by-step path to creating a healthy, vibrant, energy-filled life free from disease and suffering. The launch of her book ignited the RESETTER TRIBE. The Resetters are a tribe of like-minded people all supporting each other, exchanging health ideas, and cheering one another on to better health. Most recently, The Resetters did a 4-day fast together, all helping one another to the finish line. Raising two active teens of her own, Dr. Mindy is deeply concerned about the toxic world our children are growing up in today. Too many children are suffering. Autism, Learning Disabilities, Anxiety, Depression, Food Allergies, Thyroid Conditions, Chronic Fatigue, and Cancer are at an all-time high in our youth. Dr. Mindy believes that healthy adults start with healthy children and that in this day in age, parents need better solutions for keeping their kids healthy. In this episode, Dr. Mindy dives deep into her personal story – she was extremely healthy at the age of forty. However, one day she started experiencing depression, anxiety, and sleep issues. Dr. Mindy realized she needed to try something different. Dr. Mindy speaks about her journey with fasting and explains the benefits of fasting for women. Plus, Dr. Mindy reveals how you can tell if you are fasting too much and tips for fasting and eating around a women’s period. Stay tuned as Dr. Mindy speaks about detoxification and what to do when menopause hits. She didn’t know anything about fasting or detox. However, she was in an amazing place with her health. Shortly after, Dr. Mindy started having trouble with her sleep, depression, and anxiety. Mindy realized she needed to start doing something different. The wake-up moment for Dr. Mindy was when her family and friends told her it was menopause. “We are living in one of the most toxic times in human history.” -Dr. Mindy [08:30] Dr. Mindy Started Fasting Mindy knew that she wanted to learn water fasting for three to five days. However, she had all these limiting beliefs about fasting. Mindy met a nine-year-old who was on his second day of a water fast. That’s when she realized anyone could do it. Then, Dr. Mindy started doing way too much fasting and tanked her sex hormones. Women need to be careful about how much fasting they do. [10:40] Signs Women Are Fasting Too Much Hair loss is a significant sign. When you stimulate autophagy, it will start to clean the cells. It can also look at the cell and decide to kill it. When the cell dies, it doesn’t have a mechanism to handle the environmental toxins. If you are gaining weight, that is also a sign you are fasting too much. Spotting is a sign of low progesterone. [13:10] How to Help the Detoxification of Toxins There are some simple things you can do: Dry brushing Loofa under armpits and on neck Walk during fasting Castor oil packs Coffee enemas Add a heavy metal detox. [15:40] How to Fast for Your Cycle    If you have a regular cycle, start tracking it. Mindy uses the Clue app. On day 12 to day 14, there’s a short window where estrogen has to be made. You need glucose to produce estrogen. It will help you ovulate. If you are in menopause, that 12 to 14 day period means you need to step out of ketosis. Do a hormone building day. Eat beans, squashes, and potatoes. Once day 14 hits, you can go back to keto and fasting. On day 21, the same rules apply – step out of ketosis. The first month you try keto, you need to figure out ketosis for you. [21:20] Will Carbs Slow Down the Progress for Women?   Instead of doing 15 hours of fasting, try 17 hours. Start doing two or three days of hormone building rather than seven days. Hopefully, you can balance the hormones but still give you the weight loss. Some women have been doing one meal a day and stopped losing weight. If that’s you, eating this way will actually make you lose weight. Step out and do something different. [23:05] Problems With Getting Too Much Autophagy   You get stuck with your weight loss goals. Hair will fall out. Women will start getting hot flashes. Women will lose their periods. Muscles will begin to break down. [27:00] About The Menopause Reset Pre-order your copy of The Menopause Reset: Your Guide to Mastering Your Metabolism, Moods, Sleep, and Memory Throughout Your Menopause Journey. This book is about what lifestyle changes need to happen as you enter menopause. It can happen sometime in your forties. No matter what, women’s lifestyles need to change. There are five things women need to do during this time: Adopt a fasting lifestyle. Look at lowering your insulin. Look at the microbiome. Stop rushing as a woman. [30:00] The Most Exciting Thing Dr. Mindy is Working On The book has been a fun experience – she can give precise answers to a specific generation of women who are suffering. Mindy is saddened by how toxic our environment is. People are suffering. We need to understand that the world is toxic, and we need to detox. People need a different skill set than they have now. Dr Carrie Jones: Keto For Women, Dealing w/ Heavy Periods, How to Increase Morning Energy: KKP 78

Welcome to the Keto Kamp Podcast Episode 78 with Dr. Carrie Jones Today, I am lucky to have here with me, Dr. Carrie Jones, a functional medicine women's health and hormone doctor. Dr. Carrie Jones believes in the importance of both men and women understanding their hormones in a simplified manner so they can feel more empowered to take control of their health, especially when they are told everything is "normal." Still, they don't feel "normal." Dr. Carrie is a Naturopathic Physician with a Master's in Public Health, having over 12 years in the field of functional and integrative medicine. As Adjunct Faculty for the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM), she has taught courses in both Gynecology and Advanced Endocrinology. Dr. Carrie has been the Medical Director for two large integrative clinics in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Carrie is currently the Medical Director for Precision Analytical, Inc, creators of the most cutting edge hormone test on the market, the DUTCH Test. As a result, Dr. Carrie consults with the most fantastic health care practitioners all over the world on the hormone status of their patients, and lecture/teach/frequently write on the same topic. Understanding adrenal, thyroid, and sex hormones are complicated. Dr. Carrie's job is not to judge. Her job is to educate and empower. In this episode, Dr. Carrie Jones speaks about common women's health issues. Lack of energy is a common complaint which could be due to a variety of issues. It is essential to get morning sunlight to combat the lack of energy. If you do not have access to sunlight, Dr. Carrie says to get a full-spectrum light. Then, Carrie explains the importance of healthy fats on our hormones. If women are not eating healthy fats, they stop ovulating, their skin breaks out, and their hair is in poor health. Later, Dr. Carrie advises on how to prevent constipation and heavy periods. [00:45] About Dr. Carrie Jones Carrie always knew she wanted to get into the healthcare industry. In Portland, Dr. Carrie found naturopathic medicine. She learned all the naturopathic principles, diet, lifestyle, sleep, and risk-factor mitigation. Carrie uses a lot of herbal medication, essential oils, and acupuncture. She does not put herself in any specific box. There are a time and a place for surgery and antibiotics. [05:25] The Most Common Problem With Women’s Health There are metabolic and hormonal problems. Most women’s issues will fall into one of these two categories. A majority of women complain about their energy. Dr. Carrie says there is a lot of reasons for low energy. It can be cortisol, B12, thyroid, poor sleep, etc. Dr. Carrie does a series of tests to determine what could be causing low energy. [07:50] The Importance of Morning Sunlight Morning sunlight is light and day difference. Open your curtains. The sunshine in your eyes will wake up your brain. You have twenty to thirty minutes when you switch from unconscious to alertness. If you have overcast, it’s still okay. If it’s dark when you wake up, you will need a full-spectrum light. It will give you the sensation of being outside. Turn it on for ten minutes to a few hours. You want it within eye view – don’t just set it on the counter and walk away. When you are getting ready, set it on the bathroom counter. [15:15] Teas for Adrenal Health and Morning Energy Licorice blends and other supportive herbs. Detox teas are typically a joke. However, many detox teas have nutritive and supportive supplements. Every morning, Dr. Carries drinks green tea. Jasmine green tea is her favorite. Midmorning, Dr. Carrie drinks macha tea. [17:00] The Role Healthy Fats Play With Our Hormones   Cholesterol is the backbone of all our healthy hormones. If you don’t eat fat, a lot of things can happen to your body: You won’t ovulate, so you can’t get pregnant. Your skin will break out. Your hair will be too greasy or too dry. Fat will make hormones and increase cellular health. Athletes will often not have their periods. However, it is completely destroying their hormones. Which will also make it tough on the brain, skin, and hormones. [21:35] Dr. Carrie’s Favorite Fats and Least Favorite Fats Carrie responds well to olive-oil, avocados, and fish oil. Bad fats are things like fried foods. Eating a basket of fries will not make you feel healthy. Avoid industrial seed oils. Do the best you can and take baby steps. [25:00] About DUTCH (Dried Urine Test For Comprehensive Hormones) It’s a test in which you need to urinate on paper four or times a day. The test is handy because it will alter depending on your circadian rhythm. It will test your hormones and where your hormones are going. Our hormones have to go somewhere. We can be proactive when we learn our results from this test. [31:40] Preventing Constipation Hydration is huge. Most people are underhydrated. Diet is also essential. We lack in fiber. Eat fiber and vegetables to move your stool. Everything can be done through diet and lifestyle changes. Get good sleep. When we are not sleeping well, we do not wake up repaired, and it slows our systems down. [36:10] Eating the Keto Diet Without Restricting Hormones Hormones will tank out if women strictly eat keto. Women might not be doing the diet correctly. However, doing 100% keto will affect some women. Seven days before the cycle, progesterone should be the highest. People will need flexibility with the diet whose hormones are out of whack. [41:50] Preventing Heavy Periods Heavy periods can happen because of low progesterone, iron deficiency, or low thyroid. A lot of women are not in tune with their cycle. Some women don’t know if they are releasing eggs. When we have enough progesterone, our bleeding is easy and straightforward. Some women have too much estrogen. This will result in heavy periods and lots of clots. Find out if you ovulate. Track temperatures and look at symptoms. If you want to ovulate, you need B vitamins. [47:00] Post-Menopausal Women Once the ovaries are done, estrogen and progesterone get low. Be diligent about your stress response, self-care, and sleep cycle. Women will need to be more diligent post-menopause. If you have always had the same kind of diet, start changing up your diet. AND MUCH MORE! Benefits of Saturated Fat, Best Time For Carbs, Dangers of Vegetable Oils With Brian Peskin : KKP 45

Today, I am lucky to have here with me Prof. Brian Peskin, a world-leading scientist specializing in parent EFAs — termed PEOs — and their direct relationship to cardiovascular disease, cancer, and wound care (both traumatic and chronic). Brian has always had one goal – to help people — regardless of personal sacrifice. But despite his integrity, Brian has suffered a lot of criticism and even slander as a reward for his hard work. Brian is not alone. Many other health researchers have also spoken the truth and were chastised for it. Brian’s great genius is “connecting the dots” between established sciences that usually remain separated, and coupling his findings with real-life results. He combines theory with practicality in a very unique way. Even though Brian does not always take credit for the science he has studied – he is often only the messenger of the information already published in leading medical textbooks and medical journals — he has also been called a “quack. Brian attended the world’s leading engineering institution, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he studied highly complex mathematics, engineering and physics, along with probability and statistics. He has also studied biochemistry and physiology. Brian’s various fields of study give him a unique systems perspective when applied to health and nutrition. Electrical engineering is an exact science. In this episode, Brian and I talk about what inspired him to start scientifically looking at how foods affect our bodies. First, Brian reveals how his wife developed type 1 diabetes. Plus, Brian explains why we need to stop eating four to six times a day and the fact that we cannot physically overeat fat. He also describes the reasons why we should never consume fish oil. Tune in! Join The Keto Kamp Academy! Special offer for the first 100 members. Learn More: http://www.ketokampacademy.com [10:10] About Brian’s Wife Brian’s wife developed type 1 diabetes. Brian picked up a book to figure out what to do. He believes nobody, only science. Science says one thing, and society is doing the opposite. Brian says more people need to be writing the science. [12:50] You Never Build on the Past in Medicine   In medicine, you don’t look into the past – it doesn’t exist; it all starts today. Medicine is looking at studies, not science. Studies are open to misinterpretation. Ask your doctor what the metabolic pathway that causes your health issue is. Pathways are science. If your doctor doesn’t know the pathway, then don’t believe a word they say. Brian uses science to talk about food. [17:30] Solving Type 1 Diabetes   Brian could not bring back a pancreas. Stop eating 4-6 times a day; we are not meant to be a goat. People who don’t know what they are talking about are putting others on an awful path. The diabetes epidemic has to stop. [19:45] Stop Eating Every 2-3 Hours Brian has no idea why people think they need to eat every 2-3 hours. Carbs are sugars. You get just as much fat eating complex carbohydrates. The pancreas does not store insulin very well. If you eat six times a day, you blow your insulin reserve. The pancreas doesn’t know how to react to you eating so frequently. Eating every two to three hours came from the food industry. How much sugar is in your bloodstream? Less than a teaspoon. Brian double checked, and it still came back to one teaspoon. This is why exercise became a second job for some people, to burn off all the access sugar we are intaking. [24:30] One Teaspoon of Sugar If you eat carbs, you’ll be using the sugar when you exercise. However, you would rather your body burn the fat (unless you are running a marathon). Most people quit their training program because it doesn’t work, and they are being told the wrong thing from their trainer. [25:30] What Time to Cycle in Carbs Early morning is the best time to eat carbs. You don’t want to eat carbs at night because your blood sugar will stay high all night. For every ounce of carbohydrates you eat, you will need three ounces of water. If you eat the carbs at night, most likely, you are not doing that much activity. Make sure the carbs are good, get the bang for your buck. You can add carbs later in the day if you are going to stay active. If you eat carbs and you feel horrible, you’ve overeaten. [32:20] Eating Too Many Carbs Your body wants it back to normal, so it needs to get the sugars out of the body. Exercise your body to get rid of the sugar, or burn it by starving. Brian says he doesn’t want to store it to begin with. [34:00] Eating Fats and Protein to Excess Brian says you can’t overeat fat because your body physically won’t let you. Your appetite will eventually go away, and you will no longer want to eat anything else. To get no carbohydrates is virtually impossible. If you eat just fats and proteins, none of that protein is going to fat. 58% of a steak is water after it’s cooked. 70% of that steak is burned up in digestion. Most people don’t know this and have never seen it in writing. [36:30] Eating Steak with Ketchup You’ve introduced carbohydrates when adding ketchup to steak. You can have some carbs; you don’t need zero. For instance, if you want to have a sandwich, have one slice of bread. Carbohydrates are very cheap and inexpensive. Fats, proteins, and cheeses are expensive. [38:00] How to Gain Fat Faster Fat does nothing on its own. Minimizing carbs is always the answer. The average person can be just fine with minimum carbs. Do not have a high carb meal after a fast. The smartest thing you can do is a steak coming off of a fast. Do not eat anything with carbohydrates. [42:00] Never Use Vegetable Oil or Fish Oil Smoke 2 packs a day for 28 years, how many people will develop lung cancer? 16% of people will develop lung cancer. If you give processed oil to people, most people will develop heart conditions. Fish oil goes rancid immediately. Dermatologists don’t have a clue why skin cancer rates aren’t going down. Sometimes, dermatologists will even prescribe fish oil to their patients to clear acne. Fish oil destroys your immune system. Brian doesn’t even know what to say. The most pristine fish oil in the world, in moderation, is still wrong. Fish oil doesn’t help anything; it fails at everything! [52:40] Organic Supplements   Organic isn’t better because of more vitamins; it’s because they lack a negative. Many supplements will have carcinogens in them. If we take carcinogens over a long period of time, we will end up with severe health problems. You want more Omega-6 in your supplements. [57:15] Diet is More Important Than Exercise You don’t want your appetite going through the roof. With carbohydrates, you can’t exercise enough. You don’t start burning fat right away. At the tail end of a workout is when we will start burning fat. AND MUCH MORE! Dr Zach Bush, MD, Restoring The Gut Microbiome With Keto, Fasting & Non-Gmo Foods :KKP 133

I am grateful to have, a physician specializing in internal medicine, endocrinology, and hospice care, Dr. Zach Bush. He is an internationally recognized educator on the microbiome as it relates to health, disease, and food production systems. Dr. Bush founded Seraphic Group to develop root-cause solutions for human and ecological health and extend his passion for educating the world on topics such as the state of our soil – including the need to eradicate toxins such as glyphosate from our farming chain – and the importance of gut/brain communication as a vital part of our overall health/wellbeing. Dr. Bush is a respected speaker and authority in the health and wellness space. He travels the world speaking to medical and farming communities as well as consumers who are interested in taking proactive control of their health. Grab your bottle of Ion Gut Health here. Coupon code: KETO1KR In this episode, Dr. Bush shares his story and how he went from conventional medicine to what he's doing today. Dr. Bush explains what happens internally when we eat a standard American diet. It can take 14 hours for pizza to get through our small intestines. If you're eating three meals a day, your body will be stressed, and your organs will be working overtime. Also, Dr. Bush gives his thoughts on public health during quarantine and later speaks about a patient who would have panic attacks right after lunch. Stay tuned, as Dr. Bush describes how diseases are connected with mother nature. // E P I S O D E     S P ON S O R S  PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. Hospitals should never manage chronic diseases. Bush realized that he needed to go down a path that would make a difference with heart disease. This led him down the road of endocrinology. During his cancer research, Dr. Bush understood that he needed to learn nutrition because he didn’t get any formal nutrition education. Bush eventually started a nutrition center to reverse heart disease. He decided he would save rural Virginia. If he can figure out how to fix the small rural towns, then he would be able to scale it for the whole world. During his journey, Dr. Bush started to study soil. He realized that food is an essential connection for gut/brain communication. [11:30] What Happens When We Don’t Fast Gut motility starts to freeze up with age. At 18 years old, people who ate two slices of pizza, it took 14 hours to get through the small intestine alone. If you’re eating three meals a day, it stresses the body and destroys the gut motility. It will set up chronic disease. When you get stressed in the liver, you develop fatty liver very quickly. With a plant-based diet, it only took ninety minutes for the food to move through the small intestine. Protein has nothing to do with ketosis. Too much protein can actually disrupt ketosis. If you’re eating real and unprocessed foods – the mix is magical for the small intestine. [18:20] Public Health During Quarantine The last thing you want to do for human beings is isolating them. As soon as you stop moving, your sleep cycle will shut down. Americans are already overdosing on couch time and screen time. What have we done wrong to create a pandemic? It’s the food system. Our food system has destroyed the integrity of our planet. [23:45] Having Panic Attacks After Lunch One of Dr. Bush’s patients would have massive panic attacks after lunch. The symptom of a panic attack is the overwhelming feeling of impending doom. For lunch, she ate rice or chicken salad. She realized she only had panic attacks when she ate the chicken salad. It turns out, the chicken had a lot of stress, and it was transferring that to the human. The chicken also was experiencing an impending sense of doom before it was killed. The human starts triggering the same sense of impending doom. Corn is a beautiful plant. However, there is no biodiversity on the ground. All they allow is GMO corn. It is the factory chicken farm version of corn. Biodiversity creates more diverse returns. Corn would be better with biodiversity around it. Even weeds are beneficial to the soil. If you destroy the weed, then you destroy the biodiversity. [48:55] Disease is Linked to Mother Nature    We are creating monocrops that create monocultures in the gut. We are starting to become allergic to the food we are feeding ourselves. We need to teach our farmers how to farm the right way. That way, we can give the body what it wants and reverse the trends. The gut is an organic garden. The same rules and recovery rate that we see on a farm will happen in the gut. [51:40] Finding Yourself With Your Gut When your gut is healthy, you will start to have a healthy life. Finding yourself will include fixing your microbiome. Check out Farmer’s Footprint. With Farmer’s Footprint, Dr. Bush seeks to expose the science behind glyphosate’s impact on human and environmental health through the lens of human stories. Dr David Jockers | Best Foods for Keto Diet | Benefits of Intermittent Fasting: KKP 92

On today's episode of The Keto Kamp Podcast, we have Dr. David Jockers, a natural health doctor, functional nutritionist, corrective care chiropractor, exercise physiologist, and certified strength & conditioning specialist. He currently owns and operates Exodus Health Center in Kennesaw, Georgia. He is also the author of the best-selling book “SuperCharge Your Brain” the complete guide to radically improve your mood, memory and mindset and the SuperCharged Recipe book with over 180 full-color recipes to help you take back control of your health. He has developed six revolutionary online programs with thousands of participants. These programs include E-guides, recipe guides, meal plans and video instructions including “The Sugar Detox,” “The Cancer Cleanse,” “Navigating the Ketogenic Diet,” and “The Digestive Health Restoration Program,” and “The AutoImmune Elimination Program” and the “Super Brain Program.” Dr. Jockers is a sought after speaker around the country on such topics as weight loss, brain health, functional exercise, natural detoxification, and disease prevention. Dr. Jockers sees patients at his clinic, Exodus Health Center, to help customize specific lifestyle plans to help individuals improve performance and beat chronic disease. In this episode, Dr. Jockers opens to the show explaining the benefits of fasting – with fasting, you can maintain weight, muscle mass, and create balance. Plus, Dr. Jockers describes the benefits fasting can have to fight cancer. Stay tuned to hear Dr. Jockers talk about what you need to do if you are plateauing on the ketogenic diet, and he speaks about his latest book, Keto Metabolic Breakthrough. [00:25] About Dr. Jockers Eventually, Dr. Jockers developed irritable bowel issues and lost thirty pounds. He went from 170 lbs to 130 lbs and had a chronic gut infection. Dr. Jockers started to listen to his body and only ate when he was hungry. At this point, he started playing with intermittent fasting. Jockers developed skin cancer. It was a wake-up call to create balance in his life. After doing some research, Dr. Jockers found the ketogenic diet. Eventually, his skin cancer went away after implementing the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. [07:00] The Benefits of Fasting Jockers is trying to maintain his weight and muscle mass. It is easier for him to maintain his muscle mass with fasting. Dr. Jockers likes to fast for brain function – it allows him to think sharply and quickly. Fasting will also help you feel stronger when lifting. Plus, there are mental and emotional benefits of fasting. Jockers doesn’t eat while traveling – there is no need for it. It’s hard for Dr. Jockers to fast through lunch. He fasts through dinner quite often. Having a break during the day is a ritual for most of us. We are addicted to our rituals, and our rituals revolve around food. “The quality of our lives is all about building resiliency.” -Dr. Jockers [10:50] Fasting Fights Cancer If we are continually stimulating insulin in our body, then we are unable to heal. All of our cells need repair; they are damaged by stress, so we need a regular repair process. We need to take our damaged cells and repair them. It is more energy efficient to repair cells, then replace cells. Cancer is driven by the constant signal to grow. When we remove the signal to grow, then the body can repair. People are worried that fasting will remove muscle. However, the body will get the signal to stay strong and fast. Fasting will result in an increase in strength. Once you get going to the gym, you will feel just as strong if not stronger. Training is the number one stimulus for muscle growth. [15:50] Does Glucose or Fat Produce More Energy? Glucose is the fastest process. Burning fat is going to take a lot longer. Burning ketones and fatty acids will produce more energy with fewer waste. If we have carbs, we will want to burn those fast. Being metabolically flexible is the ability to switch back and forth. Without food, our body can burn fat and ketones for fuel. [19:15] The Best Foods to Eat on a Keto Diet Diets need to be customized. People do the best with grass-fed meats, organic eggs, avocados, olives, olive oils, green vegetables, dark chocolate, nuts, seeds, lemons, and limes. You can get most of the benefits of fruits from lemons and limes. Plus, the lemons and limes do not have sugar. Sour foods are good for stimulating bile and stomach acid. Most people have no idea how to stimulate these things. If you are metabolically flexible, then berries are a great source. Consuming too many berries will not allow your body to go into ketosis. We are not getting enough fat-soluble vitamin A. You can find in egg yolk, grass-fed butter, and organ meat. We should do things that stimulate our stomach acid and bile. Bile will sterilize the small intestine. [26:50] The Biggest Mistake on the Ketogenic Diet Not including enough herbs is the biggest mistake on the ketogenic diet. Often, people are eating too many dairy products and not enough herbs. Some people feel better with less vegetables. However, they will still do well with ginger tea and herbs with their meats. [28:00] What to do When You Are Plateauing Find out why you are plateauing. Are you actually getting into ketosis? When you are in ketosis, you should not have cravings. If you are not feeling energetic in ketosis, you may have a thyroid issue. Are the outer-third of your eyebrows thinning? This is a common sign of thyroid problems. Test your fasting insulin. You want to see it between two and five. Check for food sensitivity – you may have a sensitivity to coffee, eggs, or dairy. You can also do your own testing by putting something on your tongue and measuring your pulse. Some people need more stress on their system. Intermittent fasting will ramp up fat burning. Exercise will also help. You can also stress your body with temperature changes using cold showers and saunas. [38:30] About Keto Metabolic Breakthrough It’s a functional medicine approach to the ketogenic diet. In the book, Dr. Jockers explains how to carb cycle and how to overcome plateaus. If you have too much stress on your system, you may not be able to get into ketosis. The book is released on January 28th, and you can reserve a copy HERE. AND MUCH MORE! Dr Will Cole | Which Foods Cause Inflammation? Tips For Reducing Inflammation In The Body: KKP 82

Welcome to the Keto Kamp Podcast Episode 82 with Dr. Will Cole Today, have here with me, Dr. Will Cole, senior clinic director; he is uniquely skilled and experienced at finding the root physiological, biochemical, and hormonal causes underlying many diseases. Dr. Cole has broken free from the limiting approach of “standard care,” which most often calls upon drugs and hormones as a first defense against these diseases without a real inspection as to the underlying root causes and contributing factors to each individual’s presenting complaints. Dr. Cole, leading a functional-medicine expert, consults people around the world via webcam and locally in Pittsburgh. He specializes in clinically investigating underlying factors of chronic disease and customizing health programs for thyroid issues, autoimmune conditions, hormonal dysfunctions, digestive disorders, and brain problems. Dr. Cole was named one of the top 50 functional-medicine and integrative doctors in the nation and is a health expert and course instructor for the world’s largest wellness brands such as mindbodygreen and goop. In this episode, Dr. Cole opens the show explaining the problem behind inflammation and the connection between our mental health and physical health. Then, Dr. Cole describes the problems with inflammation in our cells and reveals the worst inflammation habits, including sitting, screen time, and lack of purpose. Stay tuned to hear about foods to cut for preventing inflammation and the top labs your local doctor can do. [01:30] Why Inflammation is a Problem Find out what your body loves so you can find food peace. Inflammation is a product of our immune system. It heals wounds and is essential for human existence. When inflammation is thrown out of balance, it becomes linked to every health problem under the sun. Inflammation is even seen in the mental health space. Research is looking at how inflammation is changing how our brain works. “Mental health is physical health.” -Dr. Will Cole [04:30] Eating Less and Moving More with Inflammation There may be some weight loss, but they will not see sustainable results. Weight gain and weight-loss resistance will occur with inflammation. You have to deal with the underlying cause of weight-loss resistance. People are spending their lives in a vicious cycle of fad diets. People do not understand what the underlying issues are. [06:45] Problems with Inflammation Around Our Cells We are made up of cells. If we have cellular inflammation, then the person is inflamed. Hormones are the language of our bodies. If the cells are resistant, then there is no body talk. [10:30] Moving Beyond Limitation Avoid The Core Four: Grains Added Sugar Canola and Vegetable Oil Dairy The Eliminate Track: Nightshades Eggs Nuts and Seeds Legumes Find out what your body loves and find out what your body hates. There are different plans in the book based on The Inflammation Spectrum. When you reduce inflammation, you will feel better. [14:00] It Differs From an Elimination Diet   An elimination diet is a gold standard for health and wellness. Cole is not a fan of food sensitivity labs. You have to deal with the gut that is reacting to foods in the first place. People will design their whole diet based on their spit at seven in the morning. The book is all about learning how you feel. Whereas, an elimination diet is not properly formulated. Plus, there is not enough talk about reintroducing foods into your diet. The main difference is talking about nonfood things. The diet is not just about food. If you are immersed in FOMO and stress, it will impact your health. [17:40] Inflammatory Habits Prolonged sitting Get moving. Studies show that sitting is the new smoking. Screen time Monkey mind Our culture is overstimulating. People are not centered or having present moments. Toxin exposure Cleaning products can be a toxin. People do not question what things we are putting on our bodies. Social media addiction Lack of purpose Change your situation or change your relationship with your situation. It’s not practical to quit your job. [28:15] Dr. Cole’s Favorite Tool Cole’s favorite tool is active stillness that brings center and present moment. We have to get our heads and our hearts right. People need to treat themselves with the utmost respect. You can’t heal a body that you hate. Stress has a negative impact on our hormones. [32:30] Top Labs for Inflammation You can get basic labs from your local doctor. Gut health tests can also indicate inflammation. There is a lot of gut centric inflammation going on for people. “You don’t want to hang your hat on one lab.” -Dr. Will Cole The lab reference range does not look at optimal health. You will need to look at the function range. AND MUCH MORE! Drew Manning, Keto Myths, Clean Keto vs Dirty Keto, Complete Keto & More! KKP 96

In this interview, I'm with health and fitness expert Drew Manning. Drew is the New York Times best-selling author of Fit2Fat2Fit: The Unexpected Lessons from Gaining and Losing 75 lbs on Purpose and has for years been a leading voice in the burgeoning Keto Diet movement. Drew is also the creator of the A&E Show Fit to Fat to Fit and the host of The Fit2Fat2Fit Experience podcast. With over a million social media followers, Drew continues to transform people's lives all around the world. Known for his straightforward and empathetic fitness and health coaching, Drew has been featured on The Dr. Oz Show, CNN, Good Morning America, The Tonight Show, The View, and MSNBC, among other media outlets. He lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his daughters, who remind him every day not to take things too seriously. In this episode, Drew opens the show explaining his Fit2Fat2Fit movement. Drew has always been in phenomenal shape – he couldn’t understand what his overweight clients were going through. In order to understand, Drew gained 75 lbs and lost it again. Drew talks about the difference between burning sugar and fat and why he ultimately decided to follow a ketogenic lifestyle. Stay tuned to hear Drew discuss gratitude and how to avoid the keto flu. [04:00] About Drew Manning Drew had never been overweight in his life. He couldn’t understand his clients – they wouldn’t go to the gym and wouldn’t eat healthily. Drew decided to gain weight to understand his clients better. At first, gaining weight was fun. Cereal and soda taste amazing. The first few months were easy. Then, it shifted. Going up the stairs was difficult, and he started snoring. Plus, Drew was greatly affected mentally and emotionally. He didn’t know who he was when he was out of shape. It opened his eyes, and helped him find his meaning. When Drew switched back to eating healthy foods, he felt miserable. Drew suffered from headaches, a severe lack of energy, and mood swings. [12:15] The Fit2Fat2Fit Movement In 2011, Drew started with zero connections. A fitness blogger posted his story, and Yahoo picked it up. Drew’s website crashed because all sorts of TV shows were trying to get ahold of him. Eight years later, Drew is still talking about his story and has two seasons of his TV show. [16:10] Why Drew Chose the Ketogenic Lifestyle Drew likes to do experiments on his body. He found out there were all sorts of scientific research on the ketogenic diet. Drew did a sixty-day experiment on himself. He didn’t lose any weight, fat, or muscle, but he felt amazing. Drew went from eating six meals a day to eating two meals a day. His brain has never felt so mentally clear. Plus, his digestion is better. No longer did Drew feel like he was a slave to food. [21:15] The Difference Between Clean and Dirty Keto   When Drew first started the ketogenic lifestyle, he simply cut carbs. It was an uneducated form of keto. There are different levels of keto. You can keep taking amazing steps – Drew is always changing, evolving, and upgrading. Drew uses a whole foods approach. In America, there are convenient keto options, even though they are not the cleanest ingredients. Dirty keto has evolved and become more popular. Drew suggests people stop eating nuts and dairy if they are still feeling inflamed. “Just because you are in ketosis, doesn’t mean you’re healthier.” -Drew Manning [28:45] Following Keto Without a Gallbladder   People without a gallbladder have a hard time digesting fats in a keto diet. Drew found an enzyme that will assist most people with their digestion. Gallbladder removal is the number one surgery in the United States. [30:00] The Difference Between Burning Sugar and Burning Fat Most people are sugar burners because they have cereal for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and pasta for dinner. When you eat fewer carbs, your body will retain less water. When you retain less water, you miss out on essential minerals. Therefore, when you transition to the keto diet, you will experience the keto flu because of an imbalance of electrolytes. When Drew says electrolytes, he does not mean Gatorade! Drew tells people to take sodium, magnesium, and potassium. Plus, you need to be drinking a lot more water. [32:50] The Habit of Practicing Gratitude “Anytime you hit rock bottom, you become a better version of yourself.” -Drew Manning People overlook the importance of overcoming mental challenges to make keto a lifestyle change. Gratitude is a daily task that Drew asks people to do. If you write three things that you are grateful for, then throughout the day, you will look at situations in your life differently. Complete Keto is about a complete transformation rather than just a physical transformation. [40:55] Drinking Keto Coffee Drew’s favorite keto product is keto coffee. He uses MCT oil powder and his salted caramel keto meal replacement with collagen. Drew uses Purity Coffee for his beans. AND MUCH MORE! Dr Robert Cywes MD, Dopamine Fasting Serotonin Loading, Sugar Addiction, & The Truth Behind The Keto Diet & Diabetes :KKP 118

Today we welcome a specialist in Weight Management and Bariatric Surgery for adults and adolescents, Dr. Robert Cywes. He has been doing bariatric surgery for 18 years, performing over 8,000 surgeries. Dr. Cywes’ medical training began in Cape Town, South Africa, where he received his medical degree from The University of Cape Town. In 1989, Dr. Cywes moved to North America and completed a year-long residency in Pediatric Surgery at Ohio State University’s Columbus Children’s Hospital. After completing his pediatric surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Dr. Cywes was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Pediatric and Fetal Surgery at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where he did hepatic stem cell research. During this time, Dr. Cywes became increasingly interested in adolescent obesity and the impact of the liver and metabolic syndrome on young patients. Dr. Cywes’ research led to a comprehensive understanding of the toxicity of chronic excessive carbohydrate consumption as the primary cause of obesity and so-called obesity-related co-morbidities, and he became interested in developing a clinical program to treat obese patients using this knowledge. Dr. Cywes relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where he joined the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the Nemours Children’s Clinic and Wolfson Children’s Hospital. This led to a national meeting in Jacksonville where guidelines for adolescent obesity surgery were established. Dr. Cywes established JSAPA to continue his work in both adolescent and adult obesity treatment and surgery, and in 2013 opened a practice in Palm Beach County, Florida. He now works with a highly experienced team of professionals from a variety of medical sub-specialties to better care for obese patients. He has developed the practice into an internationally recognized Center of Excellence for obesity surgery. The practice uses a cognitive behavioral therapy approach that addresses carbohydrate addiction, along with bariatric surgery, to help patients manage their obesity long term. In this episode, Dr. Cywes opens the show discussing the correlation between carbohydrates and toxic drugs. Our bodies do not need to run on sugar; our bodies prefer a keto lifestyle. Also, Dr. Cywes explains effective methods of treating diabetes and what's wrong with conventional treatments. Stay tuned, as Dr. Cywes discusses dopamine fasting, serotonin loading, and how our feedback controls for survival work. ▸ [FREE] 🔥E-BOOK: "The Keto Kickstart Guide: 4 Steps to Burning Fat Instead of Sugar" | http://www.ketokickstartguide.com Keto Kamp Kits: http://www.ketokampkit.com Dr Phillips CBD Oil, Keto Fruit Chews & Topical Cream http://www.drphilliipscbd.com/ketokamp My Favorite Keto Snack http://www.paleovalley.com use KKA for 15% off [01:10] About Dr. Cywes Cywes recognized the connection between carbohydrates and toxic drugs within himself. Addicts are usually not able to see how bad it is within themselves. He moved to Canada, where he completed his general surgery residency and specialized in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Toronto. Also, Dr. Cywes earned a Ph.D. in Liver Carbohydrate Metabolism and the effect of glucose metabolism on liver transplant immunology. Cywes learned that the body doesn’t need to run on sugar. In fact, it prefers a keto method of running. He also learned that fatty liver doesn’t come from the consumption of fat. It happens from infusing insulin and sugar. [10:00] About LDL LDL is a complex molecule. It’s a truck on the road transporting fat on your body. LDL will lay down fat over an injury. HDL will come along and remove the fat. LDL is not causing the injury; it’s desperately trying to heal the injury. Think of the liver like a subdivision. You have all the houses which are the different cells. Tiny roads that go to each house. Think about a bunch of garbage that blocks the road. You can’t get food and oxygen downstream to those cells. Eventually, those cells will die. As you infuse sugar into the liver, you will see that swelling. [14:15] The Difference Between Ketosis and Diabetic Ketoacidosis The difference between ketosis and diabetic ketoacidosis is 5.5 – 6 grams of sugar. It’s half to one gram difference. It’s an incredibly small difference. An apple has 25 grams of sugar in it. That’s a five-fold increase in blood sugar. Think about how resilient the body is to take sugar out of the bloodstream. [16:15] Flaws With Conventional Approaches to Diabetes Nothing fixes diabetes. Drugs just slow down the process. Once someone goes on the drugs, they are told to eat sugar. There is a misconception that the body has to have sugar. If you don’t have carbs going in, then you are not going to have the type 2 effect. If you manage your blood sugar tightly, you don’t have insulin resistance. Chronic carbohydrate consumption will cause resistance. If the body protects itself by resistance, then it doesn’t matter what the source of the insulin is. A1C is an injury to blood cells because they are damaged. [20:35] Effectively Treating Diabetes If we are going to treat diabetes effectively, we have to understand how our body protects itself. We can treat diabetes without sugar. We are relying on people who are dependent on the diabetic manufacturing industry to tell us not to eat sugar. It’s counter-productive. How do you tell people that statins are unnecessary? No one can get their hands on an inexpensive CGM. You cannot manage a type 2 diabetic without a CGM. Yet, because of the FDA, these things are so expensive that people cannot afford them. CGMs safe lives. [23:40] The Best Feedback Instrument to Lose Weight The best instrument to lose weight is a CGM. The worst device to lose weight is a scale. You can eat a tub of ice cream, and the scale will go down. You can do a 24 hour fast, and the scale will go up. As soon as you put the first spoon of ice cream in your mouth, your CGM will be alarming. [26:30] Our Bodies Have Feedback Controls for Survival For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. If something is not necessary for human survival, then it doesn’t have a feedback system. The systems are very complex at the interface level. The human body will use one molecule to create a whole variety of downstream effects. It is ridiculous to tell people to drink water. Your body knows when it needs water - it will rarely allow yourself to get thirsty. There is no need for a mathematical formula to tell us when to drink. Alcohol is not necessary for survival. There is no stopping point for our bodies. That is why we have a mathematical formula for when to stop drinking. The human body has no need to know when you should stop eating. There is no feedback control for the consumption of carbohydrates. People are not fat loading their food, they are fat overloading. It’s not okay to eat a lump of butter with steak attached. Overeating fat will make you feel like crap afterward. Part of keto is allowing your body to tell you when it has had enough. [40:30] Keto is a Metabolic State There is so much bullshit in nutrition science. The best place to go to is understanding the complexity of human biology. Human beings changed to become better with our brains. To develop brain function, we needed a more significant source of animal fat. We hunted and primarily lived on coastlines with easy access to water and seafood. Our brains need animal fat. Human beings evolved to become omnivores. Our primary focus is on the carnivore diet when we don’t have access to animal fat. If you have to supplement your food with pills, then you are not on a complete diet. [48:30] Dopamine Fasting and Serotonin Loading Carbohydrates are a drug and not food. When you get rid of carbohydrates, they will leave deficits. People don’t understand that the main reason they overuse carbohydrates is because they have a dysfunctional relationship with a substance that gives them instant gratification. If you have a rough day and eat a tub of ice cream; then you’ve had instant gratification. Going on a walk requires effort. However, it allows you to process tough issues that drive emotions. A healthy person can focus for 20 minutes, then they give themselves a serotonin break like a sip of coffee or a deep breath. We have lost track of effective serotonin relief. Go for a walk, do something charitable, do something creative. AND MUCH MORE! Shay’s doctor prescribed her to a low-carb diet, and breathing exercises – all of her health problems were magically gone in a matter of weeks. Then, Shay discusses the many issues with the vegan diet and other food trends in the United States. Stay tuned to hear Shay explain her LinkedIn success and why you need to create a LinkedIn profile! [05:00] About Shay Rowbottom   Shay’s mother was very conscious of sugar products and knew that low-fat products were not ideal. At age eleven, Shay became a vegetarian. For four years, Shay did not eat meat (or vegetables)! Her meals consisted of bagels and pizza. At age fifteen, Shay was sick and sluggish. Shay’s immune system was compromised – she had a permanent cough. On top of this, she had acne, digestive problems, asthma, and eczema. Shay saw a doctor who promised she would cure her health issues. The first thing she did was put her on a strict diet of no gluten, dairy, or eggs. Plus, Shay was prescribed breathing exercises. Within two weeks, Shay’s asthma was gone. “My body runs best without carbs.” [13:50] Eating Fats and Organ Meats Organ meats were a total wake up call for Shay. We are not supposed to be eating muscle meat. The heart and liver are where the nutrients are. Beef is delicious – she eats 100% grass-fed pasture-raised red meat. “I’m a beef girl.” All the minerals are in the organ meat. Shay loves the beef heart. [16:45] Problems with the Vegan Diet The commitment is so damaging. In one month, you will feel amazing and decide to commit to it for life. When you start craving meat, your commitment will make you ignore the signs of your body. When you commit, it makes it so hard to get out of the lifestyle. Anytime you define yourself with a diet; you put yourself in a box. If you eat the right animal products, you won’t be contributing negatively to the environment. Any extreme is not good. People get too caught up in the lifestyle. Most vegans will return to eating meat in their lifetime. Your genetics will determine how long it will take for you to get sick. [23:20] Alcohol Cleanse Shay did one month with no alcohol. She never felt better! Then, Shay extended her cleanse to four months. It was such a pleasant experience, and she ended up changing her relationships with alcohol. Sobriety also helps with health. Keto and wine are no fun! Alcohol will raise your glucose and knock you out of ketosis. [27:55] Bad Health Trends The food in the United States isn’t really food. We all go to these restaurants and eat these foods that aren’t real. These foods are killing us slowly. We are a depressed society – we have a lot of issues with unresolved mass trauma. It has created a strong culture of addiction. “We don’t make it easy for people to heal.” At the end of the day, we can blame the system. However, we can also blame the market. Money speaks, and our dollars are buying sugar. [31:00] Vegetable Oils Find restaurants that don’t cook with vegetable oils. If we change where we put our dollars, then we can make a big difference. Tell restaurants you aren’t going to eat foods with vegetable oils. Create your own life. When you love and respect yourself, you don’t want to put harmful foods in your body. “People are sick and tired of being sick and tired.” [33:50] Self-Love A lot of us get away from our intuition as a kid. Shay trusts her gut. She listens to it and follows her gut and knows how to set boundaries. Shay still does the breathing exercises that she learned as a kid. Plus, Shay is easy with herself and forgives herself often. [35:20] Get on LinkedIn Shay got on LinkedIn to attract leads to her business. LinkedIn is the best platform to reach educated people with money. Plus, it gives the most generous reach with video content. You’ll get the cheapest views with the most educated audience. When to Eat Carbs For Fat Loss, Intermittent Fasting For Serious Weight Loss, With Jay Campbell: KKP 51

Today, I am blessed to have here with me, Jay Campbell, a best-selling author, podcast host, and champion male physique competitor. Jay is also the Founder of TOTRevolution.com and the globally recognized TOT Revolution and Optimized Life Podcasts. Both podcasts interview the top Optimization physicians and Subject Matter Experts who answer questions and provide their decades of experience to help Men and Women become fully optimized. Jay also created OptimizedForever, the world's #1 premium group for optimizing hormones and long term health. Jay is a champion male physique competitor who, along with his wife Monica co-founded FabFitOver40.com, the #1 site on the web for people who want high quality and scientifically backed information on staying fit above 40. Jay is also the Co-Owner of MonicaDiazTeam.com (with wife Monica)-a mega-production eXp Realty residential real estate team in Southern California. In this episode, Jay and I talk about what inspired him to enter the health and wellness space – Jay has always had a keen ability to understand the human body and the different physical talents people possess. First, Jay describes what consciousness means and speaks about his life-changing trip to Peru. Plus, Jay explains how to eliminate fear from our lives by understanding the law of attraction. He also describes the correlation between sleep, muscles, and longevity. Tune in! Join The Keto Kamp Academy today! http://www.ketokampacademy.com [08:50] How Jay Got Involved in the Health Space Jay recently came back from Peru – the energy completely transformed his being. Jay is blessed to observe the human figure and has always been able to see people’s athletic abilities. Even as a young child, Jay could see how high a person could jump or how fast they could run. Jay never got into the fitness game full-time until the last seven or eight years. He is continually learning and studying everything about health. At 40, he took his knowledge and continues to push it into mainstream media. When you become a creator, you end up creating so much that you don’t even observe all the things you have put out. “I’ve been blogging since 2003.” [14:00] About Consciousness It’s an awareness that we are energetic beings. If you could pull back our meat suits and look into our souls – you would see plasmatic electric energy. This could be in the form of an orb. Consciousness is understanding how much more we are than our physical bodies. Truthfully, life is happening fast, so consciousness is difficult to explain. Consciousness and awareness are interchangeable. People who are resistant to the idea of consciousness can still feel it. [17:00] About Jay’s Trip to Peru   Jay has always been a man that is interested in the realms of understanding mankind’s true ancestry. Jay took massive amounts of videos while in Peru. It is one of those places that defies all logic and reasoning. You become exposed to energetic density – it brings you into a different experience. He hiked insanely beautiful and majestic peaks. He climbed 18,000 feet to the most spectacular view. Check it out on Jay’s Twitter. [27:00] Ways to Eliminate Fear From Our Lives The best way to eliminate fear is to understand quantum physics. Everything is conscious, alive, and has light in it. We are all beings of energy. The world is a gigantic construct of energy – the energy is infinite. Once you realize this, you know you will not die. When our bodies run out of time, our energy will never stop – it continues, evolves, and expands. Why would you do anything negative? When you speak, act, and think it should always be positive. Media, technology, and the internet want to create a victim culture. It is so easy to play the victim card. Part of being human is understanding that we make every decision in our lives. Do your best to put forward positive words, thoughts, and actions. Everyone knows the law of attraction – what you put out will come back to you. [32:30] The Correlation Between Muscle and Longevity   Muscle is the most significant deterrent against all the diseases in aging. The more muscle you have in the body, the following things will happen: Burning calories more efficiently Less body fat Greater bone mineral density Makes you insulin sensitive The better you can eat carbs and get away with it [35:45] Women and Muscles Women never eat enough protein. They end up having spine issues as they get older because they stop producing calcium. A woman has to go to the gym and do resistant type training to strengthen the spine. Don’t think that building muscle means you will look like a bodybuilder. [39:15] How Sleep Affects our Muscles Jay always tells people that sleep is the number one most disturbing biological function that people experience. We are destroying our ability to sleep by having technology in our rooms. If you aren’t sleeping, then you have no control over your energy. Fat loss happens during sleep – it doesn’t happen at the gym. Sleep is more important than nutrition and exercise. [44:30] Weight-Loss Tips From Jay The average person who goes to an insurance-covered doctor in America, the likelihood you will be misdiagnosed is over 95%. People are prescribed drugs that make it so much worse. Plus, medications will make our bodies worse and drain us of our money. Metabolic flexibility is where it is at. You have to be able to choose macro and micro fuel sources based on your energetic demand. For instance, if you are a long-distance runner, you might want only ketones for fuel. Fasting for women should be 16-18 hours. For men, it should be at least 20 hours. [52:15] How to Utilize Fasting If you want to be a person that loses massive amounts of fat mass in the fastest time possible, learn to fast four times a week and train the other three days. Eat keto at night on your fasting days. On your training days, try and consume a low amount of carbs. If you do this for a month, you can lose 10% of pure body fat. [57:20] Jay’s Definition of an Optimized Life An optimized life is a person who has mastery over spiritual, mental, the heart, and physical aspects of the body. What good is a physical meat suit that is shredded if there is no mindfulness training being completed? All of these things are synergistic. AND MUCH MORE! Brendan Vermeire | Weight Loss Resistance, Leaky Gut Epidemic, Women & Weight Loss: KKP 69

Welcome to the Keto Kamp Podcast Episode 69 with Brendan Vermiere Today, I am blessed to have here with me Practitioner, Founder, and Owner of Metabolic Solutions LLC, Brendan Dean Vermeire. Brendan has always been an extremely motivated individual and grew up active in martial arts and wrestling among dabbling in other activities. At a young age, he realized the importance of fitness and nutrition. Brendan felt empowered by the idea that he had control over his health and physique. Brendan enlisted in the United States Navy for the prestigious SEAL program. Unfortunately, his SEAL aspirations were cut short due to an inguinal hernia that led to a medical discharge. Brendan transitioned into competitive bodybuilding and started personal training and nutrition coaching at the age of 19. When he started in the industry, he had the pleasure of working with experienced professionals with a vast array of backgrounds and education. Brendan was fortunate enough to gain exposure to many modalities and areas of science. Being an extremely motivated individual, that exposure has set him on a path to learning as much as he can to optimize human health, happiness, and performance. There is nothing more rewarding to me than being able to help individuals attain a level of wellness they never thought possible. In this episode, Brendan explains the difference between health and athletic goals. Exercise is a big piece of the puzzle; however, it isn’t the most significant piece. Then, Brendan describes how he feels to have the privilege to lecture medical doctors on functional medicine – it’s a millennial movement. Later, Brendan says that women make up a majority of his clients and reveals the mindset shift that needs to take place to lose weight and become healthy. Tune in to hear Brendan explain the fundamentals, the relationship between weight-loss resistance and inflammation, and leaky gut. Fresh Meal Plan - use code: BENAZ Join theKeto Kamp Academy WatchKeto Kamp on YouTube $39 Bottle of Olive Oil for $1.00 [08:50] Difference Between Athletic Goals and Health Goals     Brendan knew that he wanted to run lab tests and help people reach their ultimate health goals. However, there is so much in-between on becoming healthy. “You have to get healthy to get into shape.” Cater your exercise regimen to your current physiology. Fitness is essential, yet not the biggest piece of the puzzle. [11:00] Lecturing to Medical Doctors Brendan started in fitness and nutrition. Functional medicine is an extremely popular thing right now. However, there is no such thing as a doctor of functional medicine - there is no standard of education in this field. Millennials will be leading the functional medicine movement. Enrollment into naturopathic medical school is going down. Functional medicine is a free-for-all. Brendan thinks he has a lot of valuable insight starting as a professional trainer. He sees the full spectrum and all the errors in the system. [14:55] The Holistic Savage   Brandan finally got into the social media game. You have to put yourself out there if you want something to happen. Brandan didn’t want to be seen as a bodybuilder even though he’s done loads of bodybuilding shows. He is so much more than a bodybuilder. His goal is to elevate the vibrations of consciousness and move people towards a more healthy direction for the sake of the planet. The holistic savage has become its own brand. [19:10] Self-Awareness about Becoming Introverted If you’re not taking care of yourself, then you can’t serve to the best of your ability. Brendan takes time to recharge. If you are in the health field, then most likely, you are a giver. You need to fill your own cup before you can fill others. [20:50] Overcomplicating Everything Brendan is so deep into the health rabbit hole. There is a vast education gap from standard American to the complexities of holistic medicine. At the end of the day, it doesn’t need to be that complicated. We need more general applications. It wouldn’t be constructive for somebody to hyper monitor their state of ketosis. We have never had so much information readily available all the time. There is no magic formula. [23:20] Starting with the Fundamentals FDN – functional diagnostic nutrition. Brendan doesn’t see any other schools focusing on clinical holistic health coaches. Chronic diseases are a result of our lifestyles. We need to cut down our radiation. Medication and supplements should be as needed, not mandatory. [26:30] Women and Weight-Loss Women are more health-conscious and care more about their health. Many women suffer from hormone imbalance and weight-loss resistance. Stress and toxins drive a lot of it. Eating a standard American diet is a big issue that Brendan sees. When people think they need to get in shape – they focus on diet and exercise. Plus, they are fueling the process with self-loathing and a sense of inadequacy. Step one: fuel the health building journey out of unconditional self-love. Practice self-love more regularly. We all judge ourselves – let’s start accepting ourselves and judging less harshly. Loving ourselves enough to have the discipline to practice self-love. Create space for yourself to heal, then apply the fundamental principles. The health and fitness industry uses their marketing by asking if we are unhappy with the way we look. Sleep needs to be a priority. [31:40] What’s Wrong with Eating Less and Moving More Brendan got so sick of his relationship with food. He went back to basics and made his life easier. He said he would eat whenever he wanted with some rules: it has to be real food. Everything comes back to the mind. We need to challenge our belief system and the story that we are telling ourselves. Start with self-awareness, self-love, and eating real food. “The mind is the most powerful thing in the body.” Counting your calories is a big distraction from the things that actually matter. [34:50] The Relationship Between Weight-Loss Resistance and Inflammation What drives disease? Ultimately it’s inflammation and oxidative stress. They go hand-in-hand and are the destructive processes that lead to disease. Have some kind of objective assessment to determine these two variables. Most women have autoimmunity activity in their bodies. Just because you haven’t been diagnosed doesn’t mean autoimmunity isn’t occurring. Autoimmunity is a process where the immune system starts destroying our own tissues. Ultimately, it’s a gut health destruction and a trigger that’s confusing the immune system. If you add up the cases of autoimmunity – it would outrank cancer. All types of cancer are represented by “cancer.” Whereas with autoimmunity, every disease is looked at separately. [41:35] Determining Inflammation and Oxidative Stress What’s triggering these? Environment, lifestyle, food, bugs, and toxins. “We are more microbe than human.” Brendan is working with a lab to bring on inflammation and oxidative stress test to the market. Right now, there isn’t a test to bring both of those answers at a decent price point. As we work through a health program, we should see those numbers go down. Brendan’s favorite way to test for these is on a bunch of different markers on various tests. [45:30] Leaky Gut If you swallow dirty lake water, there are all sorts of bugs in that water. However, there should be a barrier in our gut that protects us. If that barrier is broken, it leaves us susceptible to these bugs. Gluten will trigger leaky gut. AND MUCH MORE! Thomas DeLauer, Can Keto Reduce Inflammation? How Much Protein on Keto? Biggest Keto/Fasting Mistakes :KKP 121

Celebrity trainer, entrepreneur, and author, Thomas DeLauer. Thomas was hyper-focused on his business… a successful business at that, but he was afraid to step away or divert in any way towards anything else. As a result he was overweight. The only thing that getting healthy would do would shift time away from what mattered to him most (money and providing for his family). He had the hard-wiring to be excellent at both physical performance and business… They could complement each other. He became obsessed with homing in on exactly what made him an excellent businessperson. Thomas applied discipline and knowledge to his health and made some promises to himself. In a rather short amount of time, he went from being 280 lbs to 185 lbs and on the covers of some of the largest health and fitness magazines in the world. Now, he writes for some of the largest fitness publications in the world as an expert in diet, nutrition, and mindset. Thomas became a coach after he knew that he could provide what was needed to get the world’s best businesspeople the results that they need to be a better spouse, feel better, perform better, and increase their bottom line. The best part is so much of this can be done without dramatically changing your life, and seeing the optimization take place in his clients is sincerely the reason he continues to do this. Nowadays, Thomas lives in Santa Barbara, CA with his wife, four dogs, and three horses. They enjoy an active, outdoor life that allows them to optimize every aspect of their lives. In this episode, Thomas Delauer dives deep into his story and why the fitness industry dropped him. Thomas decided to speak about health and fitness on his YouTube and Facebook; people ended up loving what he was saying. Thomas talks about how inflammation can lead to weight gain; he describes ways keto can be anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory. Plus, Thomas reveals the biggest mistakes made in the ketogenic diet and the biggest mistakes made when fasting. His story is fantastic, so he was able to get on the cover of magazines. However, Thomas realized the fitness industry was all about looks. How you look should only be a reflection of how you feel on the inside. Thomas realized he needed to bridge the gap between health and fitness. The fitness industry dropped Thomas because he was no longer speaking about what they wanted to hear. When Facebook changed their algorithms, Thomas decided to work on YouTube to get his message out. If you put a YouTube video out, people will be able to find it for years. [09:25] How Inflammation Leads to Weight gain LDL and chemicals will pool up in your blood and cause damage. Our gut is a fragile ecosystem. When our lipopolysaccharides get into the bloodstream, they create a world of hurt. If you have heard of leaky gut, then you know what Thomas is talking about. When you are inflamed, your gut cells will become inflamed. Your gut will become weak and disrupted. They will block your ability to process glucose. Eventually, it leads to insulin resistance, which will lead to weight gain. You can change a lot with your diet, but you can change more with your lifestyle. [13:00] What Can Cause Leaky Gut It depends on the person. Dairy and grains can be issues. Anytime you consume something so much, your body starts to develop an immune response to it. Anything can be inflammatory. High fructose corn syrup is a big problem. Almonds can cause inflammation in one person and cause no problems in another person. [15:30] How Keto Can Be Anti-inflammatory and Pro-inflammatory Keto can be anti-inflammatory because ketones are a signaling device. Ketones are a fuel, like a macronutrient. However, they also transmit a signal that helps reset the body. Ketones have the ability to communicate to reduce inflammation. The purpose of keto is to try and control inflammation. When you start eating too many omega 6 fats and low-quality oils, you will develop a problem. Omega 6s are from soybean oil, sunflower oil, and canola oil. They are already rancid. Some omega 6s are good. When they are unstable, and in abundance, it will cause inflammation. [27:00] The Three Biggest Mistakes with Keto    Consuming too many Omega 6s. People freak out too much about protein. Eating processed foods. If you are consuming a lot more calories because it’s processed, then it’s going to be easier to overeat. [34:00] Staying In Ketosis Too Long If you go for too long, you can make yourself glucose intolerant. Your body can reject the glucose and send your blood sugar too high. This will happen until your body can adapt to glucose again. You should be cycling in and out of ketosis. What happens when you reduce your fat intake and increase carbs? The body starts pulling fat from your body. We are always changing [37:40] The Biggest Fasting Mistakes Breaking a fast improperly is a mistake. You are so sensitive to what you consume. When you break a fast, keep it lean and clean. Do not go sloppy when you break your fast. Keto coffee and bulletproof coffee will break your fast. 500-600 calories of fat will break your fast. Over ten calories or so will break a fast. People get addicted to fasting. There is a binge and purge type of mentality. Fasting should be healthy, not something to deprive ourselves. It should help us challenge ourselves and make us stronger. Do not fast when you are sick. [42:30] Do What Works For You Some people have various strategies for different things. For instance, some people don’t listen to Thomas because they may not agree with his keto content, but they agree with his fasting content. We don’t all have to agree on everything. AND MUCH MORE! Dr Ken Berry on Skin Tags, How to Start Keto, Intermittent Fasting & More! :KKP 117

I welcome back, a Family Physician, Speaker, and Author, Ken D Berry, MD. Ken was born in Linden, Tennessee, and grew up in the very small Southern town of Hohenwald, Tennessee. He received a Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in Animal Biology and Psychology, from Middle Tennessee State University, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in 1996. He received his MD from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2000. Ken has been practicing Family Medicine in rural Tennessee for over a decade. He is board certified in Family Medicine, and has been awarded the degree of Fellow, by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Having seen over 20,000 patients during his career of all ages, he is uniquely qualified to write on both acute and chronic diseases. More and more, Dr. Berry has focused on the chronic diseases caused by the Standard American Diet and Lifestyle, and has made it his mission to turn the tide on the epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes, chronic inflammation and dementia. Ken has four children, 3 dogs, 2 cats and 7 peacocks. He, and his beautiful wife Neisha, live on their farm in Holladay, TN. In this episode, Dr. Berry opens the show discussing the benefits behind lowering carbohydrate intake. Plus, he explains why you have skin tags and what you can do to get rid of them. Dr. Berry reveals why the ketogenic diet has become so extremely popular. Are you unsure what you should do if you are just starting out? Dr. Berry explains the first three steps you should practice. Stay tuned as Dr. Berry talks about fasting and why our bodies need time to repair. ▸ [FREE] 🔥E-BOOK: "The Keto Kickstart Guide: 4 Steps to Burning Fat Instead of Sugar" | http://www.ketokickstartguide.com MASTERING KETO FREE WEBINAR: http://bit.ly/37K079J Keto Kamp Kits: http://www.ketokampkit.com Dr Phillips CBD Oil, Keto Fruit Chews & Topical Cream http://www.drphilliipscbd.com/ketokamp My Favorite Keto Snack http://www.paleovalley.com use KKA for 15% off [00:50] Dr. Berry’s Favorite Tool Lowering carbohydrates is Dr. Berry’s favorite tool. People will benefit from simply turning down the carbs. Eat more meat! Even the cheapest processed meat will be better than eating carbs. Meat is the powerhouse of nutrition. If you can afford better quality meat, it will be like taking a multivitamin. The vitamins and minerals in meat are hugely bioavailable and more easily absorbed. [09:30] What Do Skin Tags Mean? There are rare genetics anomalies that can cause you to have lots of skin tags. For the average person, a skin tag means you are hyperinsulinemia. This means excess levels of insulin are circulating in the blood relative to the level of glucose. You will sunburn more easily and be more susceptible to skin cancer. People who are keto for six months will realize that their skin tags are all gone. Going keto will fix your hyperinsulinemia. [20:00] Why Keto is so Popular There is not a multibillion-dollar corporation that is pushing keto. People talk about how the keto lifestyle works for them. Weight Watchers is full of processed food and leaves you hungry for hours. Keto is a grassroots movement. Multiple corporations are trying to put out the keto fire. We are all rediscovering the proper human diet. The bulk of your diet should be some type of fatty meat. You want a lot of fatty meat if you are going to be a healthy human being. You can’t make billions of dollars from the proper human diet because it doesn’t consist of products. It consists of whole foods like meat, nuts, and vegetables. [24:00] Where Should You Start? Three simple steps when starting out: Get rid of all sugar from your diet. Stop eating all grains. Stop eating all industrial seed oils. After cutting these three things, you can figure out what else will work best for you. The next step is not to buy anything that has “keto” or “low-carb” in the name. You do not need these things to do low-carb or keto right. Keto is real and whole foods. [29:30] Getting Knocked Off Keto Stop trusting keto products! Those people just want to make a lot of money. To make a product that is tasty, they are going to have to use net carbs. Industrial seed oils are shelf-stable. They are terrible for your long-term health and nutrition. Throw away your canola oil. It’s dangerous for human consumption. You can start off doing keto really well. Then, you start to have little bites of carbs. However, those carbs will add up. You do not need three meals and three snacks a day. Protein will elevate your insulin. Carbs will also raise your insulin. Do not bring your old eating habits to keto. Fast for at least sixteen hours a day. Do not eat outside of your eight-hour eating window. [37:20] Our DNA is Wise and Intelligent Our body does not need help or input. Our bodies just need us to not do stupid things. Fasting is ancient! There is nothing new about it. All major religions have some type of fasting involved. Food corporations are not interested in talking about fasting because their profits will suffer during a fast. Our bodies are ancient and intelligent. When our bodies are not eating, then we give our body time to repair. AND MUCH MORE! Bile also helps to remove toxins.    Ginger and Ginger Tea Dandelion and tea Coffee Cranberries Arugula Dark Chocolate   If you don’t have a gallbladder, click the link above here to learn how to do keto without a gallbladder. It can be done!   2: Don’t focus on weight loss, focus instead on health.   The truth is, nobody has a weight problem. When I was obese weighing 80 pounds more than I do today, I did not have a weight problem. I had a weight symptom! The real problem was my hormones and cellular inflammation.   The number on the scale is a poor indicator of whether or not something is working.   I understand you want to hit your goal weight, I’ve been there. Instead, take photos (front, side, back) along with weight and measurements. (Blood work too) and then take those again every 7 weeks.   Sometimes fat gets pulled from the liver and other organs first.  Non-scale victories (energy, confidence, clothes, sleep, skin, inflammation)   Keep following your healthy keto lifestyle, the inflammation will go down and you will get the results you want.    Stick and stay its bound to pay   Faith and fear quote     3: Not all keto diets are the same.   Keto is not technically a diet, its a metabolic state. Its been around since humans have been around. This means, keto is not a fad, its a fact! With that being said, there’s certain foods that prevent ketosis, or allow ketosis.    I’ll break it all down here for you….   Going to Mcdonalds or any other fast food restaurant, getting a burger without the bun and saying #keto, is NOT going to get you the results you want.   Avoid the vegetable oils and bad artificial sweeteners (even pasteurized dairy can be an issue for most)   Have healthy oils and the right sweeteners in moderation   Monk fruit Pure stevia Sugar alcohols swerve   4: Replenishing your electrolytes are a MUST   You lose a ton of water weight when you transition from burning sugar to burning fat. The kidneys dump water along with it. Replenish with high quality sea salt, especially if you drink coffee (add it to your coffee)     5: You might feel worse before you feel better (toxins) . When you start losing weight you may lose some hair.   Fat soluble toxins get stored and can be released into the bloodstream. This is where bitters mentioned earlier come into play. I also recommend a supplement called BIND, take this before bed. BIND acts as a catchers mitt to catch the big boys (heavy metals) and put them in the toiler.   Hair loss may occur, this is common, the hair will grow back stronger and healthier.   Weight loss is a stressful event.  Weight loss is a shock to the system. Its anti survival. Hair grows in phases. Let the phase pass and the hair will come back. If the hair loss has occurred within the first few weeks, hold the course as it typically takes 3-5 months for the hair to come back thicker and stronger. There are certain nutrients you can give yourself to speed this up, and I’ll go over them a little later in this video. Just remember this, when stress hits your body, the body will take care of its vital organs but hair is not a priority.   B-Complex vitamins (biotin is included in here) this helps to grow protein, and strengthen hair to make them thicken. Make sure you take a b-complex and not sure the biotin alone because this can create a functional deficiency.    Trace Minerals. These are involved with enzymes that grow protein. Collagen is also great because their hair is made up of, well, collagen.   Low stomach acid (not able to digest protein) could be why its not ending up in hair for growth. Use digest from systemic and apple cider vinegar tablets from paleo valley     BONUS TIP: COMMUNITY IS KEY   I’ve come to realize that our environment is more important than we think. Hang around 5 people who are unhealthy and unhappy, you’ll be the 6th person.   Hang around other people committed to their healthy keto journey, and you’ll be the 6th person.   At keto kamp we have created a phenomenal community in the keto kamp academy. In the academy you get the complete structure A-Z on keto, fasting, sleep, fat loss, exercise, mindset and all things perfect health.   Along with the 100+ videos, you get a community built to help you succeed. Monthly coaching calls from me, and $600 worth in keto meal plans.   Learn more: www.ketokampacademy.com     It takes 66 days to develop a new habit, good or bad.   The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken. . // R E S O U R C E S .
