🐉 Once Upon A Time, there was a town that had, in its best-loved spot, a large, long, scaly rock that looked amazingly similar to a sleeping dragon. Along with this dragon-shaped rock came a tale: ‘In times of trouble, the dragon will wake, and free the village, by making a lake’.

Well, trouble did come to that town, in the form of one very, very hot and dry summer. The townsfolk were desperate for rain, but it just did not come.

Would the tale about the dragon prove to be true?

Would it wake and save them from this drought, or was it just a made-up story? Listen to this exciting short story by Ellena Ashley to find out!🐉

Rank #13: Scientist Sarah And The Glitter Germs 🛀🏿🚿 written by Nicole Esquino

Podcast cover
Read more

Written and narrated by Nicole Esquino

Sarah is a Scientist in Training asking questions we’ve all been curious about. She performs experiments that will make you giggle and want to dash off to your own science laboratory.

Are you ready to experiment with glitter and germs? 🔬✨

This story is recommended for children ages 5+

Glitter Germs: Hand Washing Experiment

The use of plastic based glitter may have a bad effect on the environment. It's advised to find a biodegradable alternative or to use a fine couscous dyed with bright colours. Using wet hands and dirt is an okay alternative but you'll have to sprinkle on the dirt on rather than have them look like they just came out of a swamp.

Objective

Kids learn the importance of washing their hands with a concrete example.

Tools Needed

    GlitterHand LotionBowlPaper Towel

Procedure

Ask your kids: Why do we need to wash our hands? What are germs? When should we wash our hands?Apply a small amount of lotion to each child’s hands.Sprinkle glitter onto each child’s hand over a bowl to catch excess glitter.First, give each child a dry paper towel to try to clean one hand. Discuss their observations of how effective the dry paper towel is.Then, have each child wash both hands with cold water. Discuss their observations of how effective the cold water is.Next, have each child wash both hands using soap and warm water. Discuss their observations of how effective the soap and warm water is.Last, discuss why is it important to wash our hands? Ask kids to give several examples of when they should wash hands. (ex. After sneezing, using the restroom, after playing outside, etc.)

Nathan Oser is a fabulous author and friend of Bedtime FM. He wrote Midnight O'Clock, one of our Halloween feature stories from 2017 (You can watch the animated trailer that goes with this story over on YouTube, and check out more of the author’s short fiction and illustrations on his website: nathanoser.com.)

Nathan has also just released a short Halloween joke book for young readers called ‘The Monster Laughbook: Jokes and More from Owlsby in Autumn’. It is available for purchase over on Amazon. Nathan graciously agreed to let us use some of his jokes in our most recent Halloween special story, The Ghost Cave (I'm sensing a theme here...). It’s bound to give you a good laugh. MMMMWWAHAHAHAHA! 😈

Nathan also designed our incredible Buffy Bunny Adventure stickers which you can purchase through our shop.
