Conversations In English About Language Learners ✔ Lesson transcript: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/conversations-in-english-11/

For  most of us, thinking about how our brains work is pretty low on the day’s to-do list. We just let our brain get on with the thousands of  jobs it does every day, and we ignore just how amazing our brains are.  Well, in today’s conversation in English we are going to talk about some  interesting science about how language learners’ brains actually work when learning a language.

Humans do a lot of things on autopilot. We unconsciously let our brains manage really important tasks, like breathing, sleeping, and we don’t really think much about it.

Take walking, for example, seems simple enough, right? But did you know you were using around 200 bones and over 600 muscles just to take a step, and before you take that step your brain is  assessing a lot of sensory data from your eyes, your ears, nose and  feedback from nerves in real-time as you take that single step. It’s  amazing that we don’t even bother to think about this as we walk  thousands of steps every day. Just walking and talking at the same time  is a huge effort for your brain.

So it won’t surprise you that there is a lot of autopilot brain behavior going on when we learn a language.  In today’s listen and learn English language conversation, we take a  peek inside the human brains of people who speak and understand multiple  languages, polyglots.

Learning English Language An Epic TV Series Ep 430

Learn English Language The Pleasurable Way ✔️Lesson Transcript: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/learn-english-language-9/

Today’s English language lesson we talk about TV series as we practice listening to English being spoken by a native English speaker. Although I watch less TV than  I used to, I’m still watching various TV series being recommended to  me, by friends, during the UK lock-down.

TV in the UK has changed a  lot. When I grew up, we only had 4 TV channels and a tremendous fuss  was made when they added Channel 5. The problem was you had to watch  most things live or miss them.

Then  satellite TV came along, with 10s of channels and the ability to pause  and record TV. It felt amazing to decide what you watched the selection  was amazing. It was probably around here I stopped watching live TV.

But  now it’s gone insane. At our house we have Netflix, Disney+, NowTV,  Amazon Video and BBC iPlayer, all of which have thousands of programs we  can watch whenever we like. So we now just browse for a TV series and  watch it from start to finish whenever we find time to sit in front of  the TV (which isn’t as often as it was). If we want the news or weather,  I just pull it up on my iPhone. If I want to watch Gardeners world I  just pull it up on iPlayer.

I wonder what it’s like in other countries. TV viewing habits have definitely changed a lot.

Soothing English Listening Practice ✔️Get The Full Article: https://adeptenglish.com/lessons/english-listening-practice-7/

Today we have some easy English listening practice.  So just find some time to slip your headphones on, step away from what  you are doing right now, and focus on listening to some English  language.

So I’m going to talk about a UK TV program that’s so  popular, it’s a national treasure. A national treasure means someone or  something of which a country is very proud. Perhaps the presenters of  this TV program have in the past been national treasures in their own  right.

Now I know many of our  listeners might worry that they cannot see the program in question, but  the internet has changed all that. I’ve embedded a clip of the program  from YouTube in the article. So if you're interested, you can watch from anywhere in the world.

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.
⭐ Greek proverb

As  with all of our listening practice, we need you to focus on what you  are hearing. You need to pick out any phrases, idioms or vocabulary you  don’t understand and look them up. We provide a transcript with every English audio lesson to help you do this.

When  you’ve listened to the audio and you are happy, and you comprehend most  of what you are hearing. You then need to schedule a time when you will  comeback to listen to the audio again. This spaced repetition listening  is what will encourage your brain to store what it hears in longer term  memory.

It’s during this repeat listening, where you are not  struggling to understand the content, where you will work on English  fluency. You will also improve your pronunciation and speed of your  English language recall. It’s the important work needed to achieve  English fluency.

Adept English is here to help with FREE English lessons and language  courses that are unique, modern and deliver results.
