Hello and welcome to the Trial of MASKS: The Next Generation.  Masks is a powered by the Apocalypse game from Brendan Conway @ Magpie games.  It’s designed to tell angsty teenage super hero stories. Think of it as Young Justice the RPG and you’re not wrong.

(side note, if you do like Young Justice, and you really should – please go check out Whelmed, The Young Justice Files Podcast.  It’s really good!

In this episode, our characters jump straight into the action as as known Super villain – RAMPAGE has just leapt out of the Rook Industries building and our team of heroes are on the scene quickly (some more than others).

Our players for this game:

Michael (@therpgacademy) – As Marisol aka: Toro (The Bull Playbook)

Caleb (@TheCalebG) as Rex (the Transformed Playbook)

Dakota (@Punchvestigate) as Hornet (The Protege’ Playbook)

Taylor (@Leviathanfiles) as Sure Shot (The Beacon Playbook)

Here are the links to the free resources to play MASKS

Hello and welcome to a special bonus episode of The RPG Academy. This was my first live show back after taking a couple months off and it wasn’t really a Show and Tell and it wasn’t really a Detention so we’re calling it a bonus ep.  Joining me this week was Taylor LaBresh from Riverhouse Games and Game Closet (proud member of The RPG Academy Network). While we do talk about several things we start off and cover more in-depth Taylor’s current Kickstarter for Thirteen Demon Princes: Hell’s Favorite Dating a show.  A rules light LARP about a dating show in Hell. Hello and welcome to the Trial of The Orpheus Protocol, a game in development by Varcolac Press. It’s also an actual play podcast of the same name. Today, we speak to game creator and GM Rob Stith.

Check out the current version of the rules and the podcast itself here.

Please be aware that The Orpheus Protocol podcast features a story centered on supernatural horror and intense thriller drama. It is full of adult content and frequently delves into potentially offensive topics. There is none of that content in this interview, but it does occur in the following games. Each of these episodes is preceded by a content warning. If this type of game is not for you, please consider yourself warned.

However, Rob is an excellent story teller and GM and has created a deep, intriguing world in his podcast. He is supported by fantastic players who deliver consistently amazing performances. I strongly recommend both the podcast and the game.

Rank #16: The RPG Academy Network is disbanding.

Podcast cover
Read more
https://therpgacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Network-Is-Disbanding-announcement.mp3

Hello!  Michael here with a brief statement about the future of The RPG Academy Network.

After many successful years, the RPG Academy Network of podcasters, streamers, bloggers and more is disbanding.

This parting of the ways is mainly due to the time, stress, effort and energy required for running such a huge undertaking and is in no way indicative of any hard feelings or negativity between any of the various participants.

This decision was arrived at collectively with Michael making the final call.

So what does this mean?  The RPG Academy podcast will continue without any noticeable changes or interruptions.  AcadeCon will continue without any noticeable changes or interruptions. And all the various shows currently in the network will continue without any changes or interruptions other than no longer falling under the umbrella of The RPG Academy Network.

Over these past few years the RPG Academy Network has forged some cherished friendships and partnerships and those are not going away.  We here at The RPG Academy are excited and hopeful for the future of these shows and we fully expect many of them to find new homes in larger and more successful networks – networks with an infrastructure to give them the resources we were unable to here and help them grow an audience worthy of their talents.

Looking back on the Network: How it started and how it grew beyond our wildest expectations – I can truly say it’s been fun, which means we must have been doing it right.

Thanks!!
~Michael and the entire faculty of The RPG Academy podcast.

https://therpgacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/The-Reviews-Wildermyth.mp3

Hello and welcome to the 5th episode of our ‘The Review’ series, this is our 1st review of a non tabletop RPG. This Review is for Wildermyth a turn based strategy RPG game from Worldwalker games.

Wildermyth is a character-driven, procedurally-generated tactical RPG for the PC. Start with a small band of farmers—full of personality, but lacking in experience—and turn them into unique, legendary heroes.

Your party will defend the Yondering Lands from various threats, alternating between turn-based combat and strategic decisions on the overland map. Over time, your heroes will uncover the secrets of the land through comic-strip-style events, presenting them with choices that can change their appearance, personalities, relationships, and abilities. And victory (or death, whichever comes first) isn’t the end. Heroes go into your “Legacy,” and can show up in future playthroughs. Over the course of several stories, your legacy heroes grow into larger-than-life myths.

Overal Rating from us: B+. solid fun, high re-playability with interesting character choices.

Wildermyth is current available on Steam as an Early Access game for $19.99 Comments and Feedback are always welcome.
