110: Overcome Math Anxiety to Conquer Your Finances with Danica McKellar

Today's question for the Kwik Brain community is: how do you overcome math anxiety to the point that you can improve your finances? You might know Danica from her role as Winnie Cooper in Wonder Years, but what you might not know is that in addition to her lifelong acting career, Danica is an internationally-recognized mathematician, New York Times best-selling author and advocate for math education. Dealing with money and finances is one the most practical reasons to learn math—unless we are able to deal with numbers, institutions can take advantage of us without us even knowing it. Many of us have learned to avoid numbers after learning to fear math in school, but the good news is this can be turned around, no matter your age! In this conversation, we explain why avoiding maths can derail your finances, and why learning math is a form of self-care. We’ll give you some ideas for bringing fun into your math learning, and simple steps you can take to get started. We’ll tell you how math can help you feel in control of your life and make dealing with your finances fun. 145: Turn Your Brain On with Dave Asprey

How do you turn your brain back on? Do you feel your brain is getting older? Senior moments coming early or feel absent-minded? It’s quite common these days for a lot of people to not have focus, unable to maintain concentration, and lack mental energy. It’s no surprise that we’re overloaded, distracted, and overstimulated that it’s easy to feel like your mind is fleeting. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Even with age, your brain doesn’t have to decline. It can get better, and you can “turn it back on.” To talk about this topic, I have a very special guest today. He’s a dear friend of mine, Dave Asprey. He is the founder of Bulletproof and author of New York Times bestseller, The Bulletproof Diet, and his new book, Super Human. He is a Silicon Valley investor and technology entrepreneur who spent two decades hack his own biology. In this episode, he will share some of his tips (you may not hear of before) to turn your brain back on. 220: Regulate Your Body to Heal Your Brain with Dr. Mark Hyman

How can you use food to regulate your body, mood and heal your brain?  We are experiencing increasing levels of depression, anxiety, aggression, and divisiveness in our society. While we can attribute this to a global pandemic and lack of human interaction, there is something to be said about the studies connecting the food we eat to our biological function.  I am thrilled to welcome a very special guest, Dr. Mark Hyman, to the show returning to shed light on this topic and discuss his new book, The Pegan Diet.  Mark is a thirteen-time New York Times bestselling author and Head of Strategy and Innovation at the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine. In this episode, Mark helps us understand the meaning of functional medicine and the seven systems in our bodies that are regulated by what we eat.  Listen as he shares our brains' tremendous ability to heal when we swap the bad food for good. Additionally, eating the right food works faster, better, and cheaper than any drug available. 56: How To Keep Your Brain Ageless

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are? The fountain of youth is found between your ears. In this episode, I would like to talk about brain tips based on Dr. Daniel Amen’s book, “Use Your Brain to Change Your Age.” We all want a brain that’s healthy and agile. In this book, I dedicated a chapter on lifelong learning and how to use that to keep your brain young, agile, and adaptable. We can keep our brain young by developing new connection through novelty and nutrition. And in this episode, I want to talk about some of the exercises you can do to create more connections in your brain.  20 Tips to help you become a lifelong learner: Find your motivation to learn something new. Read books, not just articles and emails. Turn your car into University on wheels. Stop telling yourself you have a poor memory. Don’t let school get in the way of your education. Use your creativity to memorize a list. Remember names. Use a visual pacer to read. Sharpen your brain during leisure time. Try something new. Teach to someone else. Take notes. Be curious. Ask yourself, “How am I smart?” Find your learning style.. Don’t stop challenging your brain. Meditate. Boost your pre-frontal cortex by setting goals. Boost your brain’s flexibility by reflecting. Get enough rest. You can pick 2 or 3 new activities from this list to add to your day. Which ones are you going to incorporate? Cheers to your ageless brain! Heartbreak is a challenge so many of us face and Guy is here to talk us through it. 138: Discovering Your Dominant Question

The process of thinking is nothing but asking and answering questions. Our thinking changes the shape of our lives, so the questions we ask ourselves matter, whether it’s “how can I learn this?” or “how can I get healthier?” We’re asking ourselves questions all the time, but we’re often not conscious of them and how they impact our behavior. Used properly, questions are a useful tool to take the knowledge and turn it into action.  In this episode, you’ll hear from my friends at the Mindpump Media Podcast and how you can uncover the questions you might not have been aware you were asking yourself, and how to use them to effect change in your life—and.  We also talk about how our brain chooses what subjects to focus on, how our memories work, and quick tips for learning and notetaking. I’ll take you through 3 quick questions to help you turn knowledge into action, then explain how you can work out what the dominant question in your life is.  Do you want to stay up to date with every new episode and get my brand new Kwik Brain Accelerator Program?
