Burial or Cremation? and Q&A

Podcast cover

On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (11/25/19), Hank addresses a question that he’s been asked repeatedly, given that he narrowly avoided death twice this past year, and that is if he would consider cremation. Cremation is becoming an increasingly popular method of disposing of our bodies, but as Hank points out, Scripture clearly favors burial. Our bodies are the temple in which the Holy Spirit of God resides, and therefore we should not desecrate it by being cremated.

Hank also answers the following questions:

Can you give me more insight into the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and the energies of God?
The idea of the Sabbath being exactly the seventh day—Saturday—from the beginning of creation goes out the window because of the change to a 365-day calendar, correct?

The Spiritual Discipline of Reading, and Q&A

On the Bible Answer Man broadcast 11/20/19, Hank discusses the spiritual discipline of reading which he covers in-depth in his new book, Truth Matters, Life Matters More. Reading is not intended to add more stuff to an already over-cluttered mind, but rather to provide new heights of perspective and new depths of understanding. Isaac Newton could never have invented the magnifying power of the telescope by himself. He read and reflected on the accumulated knowledge of those who had gone before him. The source of his genius was immersion in a sea of revelation—and the greatest of all revelations is the Bible. Newton read it, and so must we.

Hank also answers the following questions:

How can I be a better example when dealing with chronic health issues?

Answering Apparent Contradictions, and Q&A

Podcast cover

On the Bible Answer Man broadcast from 11/15/19, Hank addresses the issue of “apparent” contradictions in Scripture. One of the concerns dealt with in the Complete Bible Answer Book Collector’s Edition Revised and Updated is whether or not Jesus suffered agony on the cross. According to Ehrman, unless Mark and Luke say exactly the same thing in their accounts, they are contradicting one another. Despite Ehrman’s erroneous claims, Jesus knew precisely what would happen to Him and clearly suffered in His passion on the cross.

Hank also answers the following questions:

Is there a reason why Jesus used a variety of methods to heal people?
Must we confess our sins according to 1 John 1:9? I hear people say this is not necessary for believers.
I have done a lot of work in apologetics, but how can I keep from treating the Bible like a textbook, and avoid reducing the gospel to simply an argument?
In light of Matthew 5:20 and Jesus’ warning to the Pharisees, what are New Testament believers required to do?
Is becoming like a child a requirement for salvation according to Matthew 18:1-4?
Can I apply the story of Paul’s journey in Acts chapter 27, to my own life?

What’s Wrong with Baha’i? and Q&A

Just as John the Baptist paved the way for Jesus, so too, a Persian prophet known as the Báb prepared the way for Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of Baha’i. Baha’i teaches that every few hundred years a new messenger is revealed as a manifestation of God, such as Moses, Buddha, Confucius, Christ, and Muhammad. But the problem is that the teachings of these messengers greatly vary and often contradict one another. They can all be wrong, but they can’t all be right. Interestingly, this book came as the result of a series of BBC radio broadcasts given by Lewis during World War II while many were questioning their faith. A Deep Dive into the Prayer of Jesus: God’s Glory

Podcast cover
Read more
On today’s special teaching edition of the Bible Answer Man broadcast (11/12/19), Hank dives deep into the Prayer of Jesus—also known as the Lord’s Prayer. Drawn from his new book, Truth Matters, Life Matters More, https://www.equip.org/product/cri-resource-cri1909wa/ the spiritual formation of prayer begins with a biblically grounded prayer pattern—the poignancy and profundity of the very words our Lord taught His disciples to pray. A prayer that is deftly divided into two parts. The first is focused on God’s glory. The second is focused on our requests. In the words of the great early church ecclesiastical writer Tertullian: “How gracefully has the Divine Wisdom arranged the order of the prayer; so that after things heavenly— that is, after the ‘Name’ of God, the ‘Will’ of God, and the ‘Kingdom’ of God— it should give earthly necessities also room for a petition!” Hank explains what it means to pray, “Our Father in heaven,” “Hallowed be thy Name,” “Thy Kingdom come,” “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” As such, we can rest assured that even in sickness and suffering, everything works together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (12/09/19), Hank discusses an article from The Wall Street Journal titled, “Don’t Believe in God? Lie to Your Children” by Erica Komisar. Komisar, a psychoanalyst, writes that declining interest in religion has proven to be disastrous for millions of young people struggling with depression and anxiety. She goes on to reference a study in the American Journal for Epidemiology that showed that children or teens that attend a religious service at least once a week scored higher on psychological well-being measurements and had lower risks of mental illness. But as Hank points out, the Church is not just a place that helps us cope in this world, but the Church is the place in which we can receive the medicine of immortality—a medicine that transforms our being from one glory to another glory. In the second segment of the broadcast, Hank goes over the ninth day of his devotional, The Heart of Christmas: A Devotional for the Season. It’s a day in which we reflect on Immanuel—“God with us.”

Thanksgiving, Indoctrination of Students, and Q&A

On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast from 11/27/19, Hank discusses an article in The Federalist titled “What Kids In Portland Public Schools Learn About Thanksgiving” by Mary Grabar. In this article, Grabar provides us with a poignant example of indoctrination. Today there are eighth-graders who have been assigned to read Marxist Howard Zinn’s “A Young People’s History of the United States,” which paints the Indian tribes as a homogeneous “mass of childlike people oppressed by the greedy capitalist explorers and settlers.” Hank adds that the indoctrination of students does not stop in grammar school, but also takes place on college campuses as well.
Hank also answers the following questions:
Depending on where you are in the world, most people are rich nowadays, so how rich is this person that Jesus is talking to in Matthew 19:16-24?

Can you give me advice on how to read through the Bible?

Burial or Cremation? and Q&A

Podcast cover
Read more
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (11/25/19), Hank addresses a question that he’s been asked repeatedly, given that he narrowly avoided death twice this past year, and that is if he would consider cremation.

Podcast cover
Read more
On the Bible Answer Man broadcast 11/20/19, Hank discusses the spiritual discipline of reading which he covers in-depth in his new book, Truth Matters, Life Matters More.

A friend’s daughter told them that she was a lesbian. What can they do to help her?
Was Peter the first bishop of Rome?
