On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank presents the newest resource available for those that support the ministry of CRI all this month, The Call of the Cosmos: What the Universe Reveals about God, a new film by Illustra Media. This stunning new film points to a cosmic designer with unsurpassed artistry, wisdom, and unfathomable power. It’s hard to believe that anyone who watches this film could walk away unconvinced of a creator, making it must-see viewing for believers and skeptics alike. Hank also shares a sermon from St. John Chrysostom that was sent to him by a dear friend and it has been a balm of Gilead in Hank’s life and he prays that it will be a balm of Gilead in your life as well. Hank also answers the following questions:

Why did Mary give a sin offering if she was without sin?
My prayer group is going to see these so-called modern day apostles. How do I confront them about this?
Does the law of divorce in Deuteronomy 24 apply to us today?

On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast from (03/12/20), Hank discusses democratic socialism, a topic brought up by Senator Bernie Sanders, who said recently “when I talk about democratic socialism, I’m not looking at Venezuela. I’m not looking at Cuba. I’m looking at countries like Denmark and Sweden.” Which raises the question, are countries like Denmark and Sweden great examples of the exceptionalism of democratic socialism? No, says Hank. In the second segment of the broadcast, Hank addresses the question of how a good God could create a world in which things can go desperately wrong, a question brought up in light of the current coronavirus pandemic. A common refrain in the 21st century is that religion is the root cause of the great atrocities of human history. But in reality, more people have died as a result of secularist ideologies in the last century alone than have died in all the religiously motivated conflicts of Western history.

Hank also answers the following question:

Why is it that you don’t mention the tens of millions of people murdered by communists?

Rank #3: Best of BAM:Losing a Generation, and QA

Podcast cover

On todays Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank confesses that he does not like losing, especially when it comes to golf. However, with regard to the Christian faith, this propensity may be virtuous. The church is losing a generation of Christians, which does not bode well for the future of Christianity. Of the 3.7 million US evangelicals between 18 29 years old, 2.6 million will leave the faith and the vast majority will not return. This sobering reality is one of the reasons why CRI is making available the best materials on apologetics, Biblical literacy, and countering the cults. Hank also answers the following questions: What are some tips for Scripture memorization? Can you explain the words of Jesus in Mark 9:49, where He says everyone will be salted with fire? Is the Holy Spirit and the Holy Ghost the same? If different, is it necessary to have the Holy Ghost to enter the Kingdom of Heaven? Who are the sons of God in Genesis 6? I am new to reading the Bible where should I start reading? What is your opinion on the historical relevance of pseudepigraphal texts? Why is Jesus said to have come from the line of Judah instead of the line of Ephraim?

Rank #5: Darwinian Assumptions, Eugenics, and Abortion

Podcast cover
Read more
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast from (03/13/20), Hank talks about the Darwinian assumptions that have become such a part of the air we breathe that it is increasingly difficult not to include its broad-ranging assumptions in our everyday rhetoric. Consciously and unconsciously, it seems we are influenced by evolutionary thinking. One example is the collective embrace of eugenics. With the dawn of the twentieth century, eugenics was standard fare in high school biology classes. The logical progression from evolution to eugenics is hardly surprising. What is breathtaking is the vast rapidity with which this baseless theory was embraced by the cultural elite, its supporters ranging from President Theodore Roosevelt to Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger. Those who resisted eugenics were considered backward and ignorant. It wasn’t until the ghastly reality of eugenics reached full bloom in the genocidal mania of German death camps that it vanished quietly into the night. The tragic consequences of the evolutionary dogma that birthed it, however, are yet with us today. Hank also discusses the issue of abortion in the second segment of the broadcast, something that is on the forefront of the battle today for Christians. We ought to be demonstrating just how devastating the effect of abortion is to our civilization.

On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (03/03/20), Hank discusses the film Fragments of Truth, focusing on the outrageous statements made about the Bible by college professors like Bart Ehrman. In Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why Ehrman alleges mistakes and changes that ancient scribes made to the New Testament and claims that they had a very significant impact on modern Bibles. Says Ehrman, “The more I studied the manuscript tradition of the New Testament, the more I realized just how radically the text had been altered over the years at the hands of scribes.” Scribes he impugns with anti-Semitic motives. But Hank counters this ridiculous claim and shows why it does not correspond to reality.

In the midst of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln called on all Americans to participate in a national day of humiliation, fasting, prayer, and repentance.

Rank #20: What Must We Do To Be Saved, Pin the Tail on the Antichrist, and Q&A

Podcast cover
Read more
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast from (04/27/20), Hank brings up the most important question that you can ever ask yourself: “What must I do to be saved?” It is precisely the question asked by the Philippian jailer in Acts chapter 16. Paul and Silas responded by saying, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” After hearing the word of the Lord, the jailer believed and was baptized. Salvation is not static but active. Not punctiliar but a process. Not merely a decision but a decided way of living—a way of living by which we are transformed from glory to glory. Salvation is a lifetime journey replete with ebbs and flows. Yet we can rightly praise God for the confidence that “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” Hank also deals with an issue that is coming up more and more frequently as people are involved in a game called “Pin the Tail on the Antichrist” where people—particularly in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic—are looking to see if they can determine who the antichrist is.

Hank also answers the following question:

On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (07/09/20), Hank brings up our resource of the month, the book Gay Girl, Good God by Jackie Hill Perry, who he recently had on the Hank Unplugged podcast to discuss her journey out of a homosexual lifestyle, offering a much-needed testimony for a time when society has embraced radical changes to traditional views of sexual identity. Jackie didn’t write Gay Girl, Good God to merely point out the mistakes of her past, but rather to shine a light on the power of a relationship with God while helping people to understand the realities of same-sex attraction. In the second segment of the broadcast, Hank discusses the Black Lives Matter organization, which stands for more than what you may think they do. If you look at their website, you’ll find out that they seek to disrupt the nuclear family, dismantle cisgender privilege, and uplift Black trans folk—primarily Black trans women. All of this is part of the “word crisis” that threatens to undo Western Civilization.

Hank also answers the following question:

Think Before You Swallow, and Q&A

Podcast cover
Read more
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (07/08/20), Hank discusses an article he read in USA Today titled, “Meet the Pint-Size Ancient Ancestor of Dinosaurs.” The narrative, as per usual, is evolutionary to the core. What few, if any, do when they read narratives such as the one underlying the USA Today article, is to stop and ponder what is being fed to them under the banner of science. How probable is it that flying birds evolved from their alleged ancestral dinosaurs? Is it really possible for reptilian scales to evolve into feathers that are common in birds observable today? What about the lack of transitional forms? Why is it that strangely missing from popular conversations today is the reality that evidence from the fossil record points overwhelmingly away from the classical Darwinism that most Americans were force-fed in high school? It’s becoming increasingly convincing that our modern newspapers should bear the warning, “Think before you swallow.”

Hank also answers the following questions:

On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast (07/06/20), Hank talks about an article by Sarah Kramer titled, “A New Virginia Law Will Force This Photographer to Violate His Faith… So He’s Taking a Stand.” The convictions of the photographer, Chris Herring, have landed him in serious trouble in Virginia. Why? Because Virginia law requires him to celebrate same-sex weddings. Not only so, but Chris cannot use his website to explain why, without facing draconian penalties—monetary penalties that could quickly exceed a million dollars. As noted by Kramer, that’s a heavy price to pay for living out your faith. The reason Chris is taking this stand is that he rightly believes that no one should be unjustly forced to say something against their beliefs under threat of government punishment. For Chris, a clear conscience is far more significant than success or money. Chris’s stand for truth no matter the cost inspires all of us to continue on as cultural change agents rather than cultural conformists.

If the anti-racism movement rejects the only plausible worldview that can account for racial equality—the Christian worldview with its teaching that all people have intrinsic worth in virtue of being created in the image of God—the only origin account available to the Marxist/atheist is the Darwinian story, which is, ironically, inherently racist. Hank also talks about the new featured resource for the month of July, the book Gay Girl, Good God by Jackie Hill Perry. It’s almost written like poetry; once you start reading it you won’t be able to stop. Hank is enthusiastically sharing this book for two reasons. First, because he thinks you’re going to be moved by the story of a life redeemed and how God is using this book to bring healing and wholeness to people. Second, because issues of sexuality and gender confusion are now derailing and destroying countless lives. Sadly, multiplied thousands of young people are succumbing to devastating myths and pseudo-truths perpetuated by a secular, post-truth culture that has largely lost its moral moorings and is now dangerously adrift on a misty gray sea of relativism. Best of BAM: Rational Suicide, and Q&A

On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank discusses an article he read in The Economist titled, “A Design for Death: Meeting the Bad Boy of the Euthanasia Movement” by Mark Smith. The article features an “elegant gas chamber” happily dubbed “Sarco”—short for sarcophagus. The slick, spaceship-like pod has a seat for a passenger seeking a memorable exit into the darkness of death. Sarco is the brainchild of Philip Nitschke, who is an advocate of what he calls “rational suicide”—suicide as a defensible option even in the absence of a terminal illness—and for proposing a mechanism through which that can occur via the gentle press of a button. How different from the Christian perspective in which the timing and terms of death are the province of God alone. A worldview in which no doctor is ever permitted to usurp the prerogative of Deity. While passive euthanasia is morally permissible in that it allows the process of dying to run its natural course, active euthanasia is morally prohibited because it directly involves the taking of one’s life. Life is a gift from God and every decision toward euthanasia is a decision against the Living God; a rationalized negation of His very essence.

Hank also answers the following questions:

If Jesus died on a Friday and resurrected on Sunday, how could he have been in the grave for three days and three nights like he said he would be?
How does Satan tempt people? Does he read and implant thoughts and ideas in our minds?

Supreme Court’s Redefinition of “Sex” and What Is Salvation?

Podcast cover
Read more
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast from (06/19/20), Hank discusses the ramifications of Monday’s U.S. Supreme Court decision to include sexual orientation and gender in the legal meaning of the word “sex.” Among other consequences, the decision undermines privacy and undercuts opportunities for women in the workplace; it ignores biological realities and prohibits particular limits on sexual behavior thereby threatening freedom of conscience, religion, and speech; and it undermines historic biblical maxims, replacing them with newly devised critical theory formulations.

Hank also addresses the question, “What is salvation?” Nicholas Cabasilas wrote in a remarkable work titled Life in Christ, “The Lord allowed men, separated from God by the triple barrier of nature, sin, and death, to be fully possessed of Him and to be directly united to Him by the fact he has set aside each barrier in turn: that of nature by His incarnation, of sin by His death, and of death by His resurrection.” The first barrier, that of our nature, Jesus removed by way of His virgin birth. Thus, we may rightly say with St. Athanasius, “God was made man that we might be made God.” This is what is referred to in Christian parlance as “the exchange formula” of salvation. As Saint Irenaeus explained: “The Word of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, through His transcendent love, became what we are, that He might bring us to be even what He is Himself.” Saint Gregory carefully qualified deification by explaining that though human beings partake “of the properties of divinity,” they never attain to God’s “identity of nature.” As such, deified humankind can never cross the barrier that separates them from the Trinity. The second barrier, that of sin, Christ set aside by His death. “Led like a lamb to the slaughter,” Jesus “bore the sins of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” The third barrier, that of death, is forever swallowed up through resurrection. If Christ had not Himself been resurrected, the promise that He will resurrect us would be as empty as the tomb certifying its fulfillment.

Best of BAM: The Word Crisis, and Q&A

Podcast cover
Read more
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast, Hank highlights the cover article of the brand new edition of the Christian Research Journal, “Seduced? The Crisis of Word and the Fragmentation of Civilization” by D.K. Matthews. https://www.equip.org/christian-research-journal/the-word-crisis-that-threatens-to-undo-western-civilization/

Christians are caught today in the crosshairs of a virulent linguistic pandemic. It’s a crisis of word—a crisis that has flowered into semantic terrorism. Post-truth critics—including candidates for the highest office in the land—routinely castigate those who stand in opposition to their redefinition of words. They are labeled intolerant, hateful, ignorant, xenophobic, and an imminent and existential threat to the noble quest for a progressive future. As Hank often says, we can curse the darkness, or we can build a lighthouse in the midst of the gathering storm. Articles like “Seduced?” along with other timely articles in this issue of the Christian Research Journal do just that.

Hank also answers the following questions:

In Genesis 1:26 it says God created man on the sixth day, but Genesis 2:7 says that God created man after resting on the seventh day. Can you help me understand this?
I’m having a hard time understanding Calvinism vs. Arminianism. I’m struggling with knowing that Christ possibly died on the cross for the elect and not for everyone. Can you help me?

Rational Suicide, and Q&A

Podcast cover

On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast from (06/18/20), Hank discusses an article he read in The Economist titled, “A Design for Death: Meeting the Bad Boy of the Euthanasia Movement” by Mark Smith. Life is a gift from God and every decision toward euthanasia is a decision against the Living God; a rationalized negation of His very essence.

Hank also answers the following question:

Do we have any records of how the Jews reacted to the veil in the temple being rent at Christ’s crucifixion?

The Horror of Radicalism, and Q&A

Podcast cover
Read more
On today’s Bible Answer Man broadcast from (06/17/20), Hank presses on in his discussion on racism, riots, and radicalism by taking a closer look at the horror of radicalism in the classrooms. A radicalism bent on redefining words, and in the process, undermining the foundations of Western Civilization. When the Supreme Court of the United States of American redefined the word “sex” to include sexual orientation and sexual identity, they opened Pandora’s box. In redefining the word “sex,” Justice Neil Gorsuch contradicted his very own intention as he put it in New Prime Inc. v. Oliveira, 2019, “words generally should be ‘interpreted as taking their ordinary meaning at the time Congress enacted the statute.” Gorsuch continued, “After all, if judges could freely invest old statutory terms with new meanings, we would risk amending legislation outside the 'single, finely wrought and exhaustively considered, procedure' the Constitution commands.” That is one of the horrors of radical linguistic subversion—taking words and redefining them in a manner that threatens to undo Western Civilization.

Hank also answers the following questions:

If Jesus died on a Friday and resurrected on Sunday, how could he have been in the grave for three days and three nights like he said he would be?
How does Satan tempt people? Does he read and implant thoughts and ideas in our minds?
