Ep 15 - Routines & habits

Since Christmas I've fallen out of doing some of my habits which have brought me some peace and enjoyment in the past. Life has got in the way and I've neglected my morning routine which is impacting me. Sometimes you don't feel they are that important at the time but once you stop doing them, and bring awareness to that fact, you may realise the positive impact those habits held for you. Have you had a relaxing or self centred habit which you have been neglecting and now notice its absence from your life? Do you want to get back to doing it? Do you want to create a new habit for yourself? If you want to look into improving your life with some fresh habits or simply get back to doing something you miss, come and join my Free private Facebook group Marching on with Habits where you can receive help, guidance and support to create lasting habits to set you on your way to Living Happy. There's no catch. Turn up, put the effort in and see the rewards. If you've enjoyed the episode please rate, review and share to help get the podcast out to the wider community. Ep 14 - Messed up head

This episode sees me realise I've hit double figures for my podcast episodes! I have a little celebration for that.  Pressure of life has built up on me recently and I catch myself slipping into bad habits of letting my head run away with negative thoughts. It takes effort and the willingness to be self aware to make the changes needed to stop these 'habit's' because that's what they are. A bit like smoking or drinking negative thoughts are habits that you get into.  When your mind races with negative thoughts you need to make the effort to focus on the here and now and what actions you can take currently to help the situation. Rational self questioning is great to start with, such as; "Is this current line of thought helping me?" "What is the main thing that is causing me to feel like this at the moment?" "What immediate action can I take to help me move towards a resolution?". If you need to write things down too to help cement your solutions in your mind.  Boundaries play a part in our happiness too and I'll do an episode at some point on them but for now try to be aware of times when you are asked for something and you sink a little in side but still say yes to the request. That's a sign your boundary is being crossed and you need to say "No" in the future. Thanks for listening and I hope you have a lovely rest of the week. Rach x Find me here.... Ep 13 - Changes and grumpy husband.

I've just lost all that I had written 😢 Don't you just hate it when that happens. So I'll start again, this may well be shorter than it was but how are you to know or even care?!   I've decided to change what I record in the podcast and Steven Bartlett (The Diary of a CEO) gave me the idea, no I'm not original! I find chatting cathartic so I've decided to record them as a bit of a diary. Sometimes there might be useful stuff episodes, others it may well just be a dialogue of my 'life'. Who knows lets see where it takes us hey? I essentially wanted to move away from the 'prescribed help' I was trying to dish out in previous episodes, hopefully this will stop that. This episode I'm chatting about the issue of having a grumpy husband and son on school holiday. Thankfully son wasn't grumpy too else it would have been hard work! Stress of lambing time fast approaching and the harsh weather are making their mark. Communication is key, in a way, so I've tried to let hubby know I'm listening.  If you like this episode please do feel free to let me know.  Email rachael@discoverewe.co.uk You can find me on social media here: Facebook Instagram I have changed things to being 'E' for explicit so if I happen to let an 'f bomb' or similar slip I don't have to worry. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/discoverewe/message

Ep 12 Hard Work!

How ironic that I chose the title of this episode to be 'Hard Work' and then proceeded to chat about the forthcoming lambing season where we have 35 ewes expecting multiple lambs of 3 or more! But I wasn't meaning the physical hard work of lambing when I decided to title the episode Hard Work.  My reference was more to do with the mental hard graft it takes to maintain a positive head when you are working towards something and it's taking it's time coming to fruition. It's so easy to yearn for the quick fix and granted the quick fix will probably produce results but will they stick?? I gave a presentation on my Facebook page recently about habits and made the point of saying that there are no quick fixes. But I hadn't been taking my own advice! Especially when it comes to my horse, I want 'it' now, and although I've made progress with her it's been over a prolonged period so it seemed minimal.  So when it comes to doing anything that means something to you prepare for the hard work that it will probably take. Not necessarily the physical effort but the mental effort to stick with it and keep going when it seems to be going too slow for your liking!  Follow or contact me the following ways: Email: rachael@discoverewe.co.uk Social media Facebook & Instagram @discoverewe --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/discoverewe/message

Ep 11 - Ways to control an overactive mind.

In a post on Facebook on Christmas Eve I spoke about taking a break and relaxing over the festive period. I was ultimately referring to our busy minds and how they can prevent us from chilling. It is easier said than done but with practice you can teach yourself to focus on the current moment in time and stop the run away mind. In this episode I chat about our unexpected start to the 2022 lambing season and how to start practising the highly publicised art of 'mindfulness'. Call it what you like 'being present' 'mindfulness' 'focus' or even 'not giving a monkeys'! It's a learned habit that you can develop with time and effort. Bringing awareness to the fact you have control over what goes through your mind, or doesn't for that matter, is a game changer. I referenced an Instagram account but actually got the handle wrong. It's not 'Born and bread' as I suggested, it is in fact BetterBreadBeef I was commenting on the struggles they were having this calving season and how they pick themselves up and keep going by looking at what they can do differently and seeking answers. I believe they must also deal very directly with what they can and cannot control. As part of the process of stopping a busy mind looking at things rationally and how you can improve from your current situation is brilliant.  The vivid film reel of what if's and maybes which may run through your head is not helpful, as we know, so put the breaks on it by using your senses, (that provide information to your mind every day) taste, touch, sight, sound and smell, to bring you back from the 'cinema'! When your mind is running away ask yourself what you can feel, taste, feel see and smell. Really take note of the information coming in. When the film changes to things that you cannot control ask yourself what you can or can't do. It's an ongoing skill to develop but the more you practice the better you will become.  Hope you enjoy the chat. Ep 10- Feeling bleurgh! Why it's ok and ideas on how to change the feeling.

Like the weather many of us are feeling a bit gloomy. What the cause is may well be different for us all, but the the mood is probably very similar. Society sees being down as a negative thing but sometimes we need to just let it sit and give ourselves time. In this episode I chat about being bleurgh and the ways I use to help shift it. We do control our mindset but it takes effort to learn how to master it. Take the time to learn what floats your boat and with who. Be open to opportunities and say yes. Like me going ahead with my coaching call and having the energy and positive nature of Amanda lift me up. It will pass but we can be proactive in helping making pass quicker.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/discoverewe/message

Ep 9 - Making changes

Discover Ewe living happy the podcast for women in farming who are fed up of being just the 'wife', partner, mum, cook, housekeeper, supporter... You get the idea? Come and join me for a quick podcast (always under 30 mins) and take a break. This episode comes after a long break. I hadn't disappeared see! Life just got in the way and I lost a bit of confidence and motivation to do my podcast but I'm back. There's a bit of wind noise in this episode (weather wind not bodily!) so I do apologise for that. And I'm not as fit as I should be as I huff and puff round the field walking the dogs to record this. Less biscuits and more walking needed I think! This episode I chat about change. Mostly explaining the change to the business name but also briefly talking about how change can be a good thing. Next podcast will probably be about change too as I don't explain it much in this episode! All reviews and shares are very much appreciated to get the podcast out to more farming women, so please don't hold back. I'm on social media under @DiscoverEwe and you can email me on rachael@discoverewe.co.uk if you'd like to get in touch. It would be great to hear from you. It's listed as explicit because I use the slang word for poo! Usually I do keep a clean mouth, more to enable you to listen whenever you want without the fear of little ones learning new words! What was your favourite part of today?? Let me know. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/discoverewe/message

Ep 8 - Why I'd want a job part 2!

This episode expands on the topic I discussed in episode 7 about the benefits of having a little side job of your own. I talk about needing to have some control and responsibility of your own to feel valid and successful. Be that as part of the farm or off farm. Having autonomy is very important in any relationship, be it personal or professional, so don't let it slip for you.
